If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Houston, look no further than Max's Wine Dive on Washington Avenue! Having frequented this gem for over a decade, I can confidently say that their food and service (for the most part) have been exceptionally consistent throughout. The quality of their food is truly outstanding, from their legendary collard greens to my personal fave - the mouthwatering Cracklin' Chicken. Everything is delicious! The atmosphere is vibrant, sultry, and upscale, blending chic and cozy perfectly. The entryway is a standout, featuring amazing lighting and lush seating, making for the perfect photo op. Their wine selection is top-notch, and their service is impressively speedy without sacrificing quality. They are incredibly accommodating, and truly made my last visit feel special. Their prime location combined with ample parking ensures convenience for all guests. Whether you're there for a casual evening, Wednesday Steak Night or a grand celebration, Max's Wine Dive never disappoints! My only feedback is towards service and management - update the menu with what's actually available. The lead waitress basically told me when I picked a Chardonnay out of stock she would just select something comparable for me. I asked if it was house Chardonnay but didn't receive a clear answer. That was off putting, this is a wine themed restaurant and I want to know exactly what I'm drinking. Also, if I ask for the notes in a wine, I expect the waitress to be informed or find out but my question was brushed off.

I met up with a friend and his family for dinner on Saturday evening. I'm unsure if they made a reservation but we were seated promptly and provided water. We were also informed that the menu was available via QR code. Our waitress came shortly after (maybe within 5-10 minutes) and took drink and food orders. Some of us hadn't been ready to order drinks yet since it's on a different tab than the dinner menu online. It took a while to get her attention to come back, but we eventually flagged her down. The drinks and food came out promptly and our waitress checked on us a few times to ensure orders were correct. I got the OG cheeseburger (no pickles) with truffle fries. The burger was pretty solid but a little on the salty side. The cheese (actually, unsure if that was cheese now that I think about it) on the fries were a little hard and honestly unnecessary. The fries themselves were delicious though and I appreciated that they provided the mayo and ketchup separate so you could add it yourself or simply use it to dip the fries. I've been here once before for brunch so this was my first time for dinner. The music was nice and the decor was cohesive. I didn't go to the bathroom so I can't speak to the cleanliness. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good experience and I plan to return for happy hour in the near future.

This was an interesting experience with mixed reviews. The 2for Tuesday deal was amazing. A drink and selected entrees for 20 bucks. The deviled eggs were amazing. The chicken had absolutely no seasoning. However it was perfectly crunchy, which was weird. The empanada was delicious. This is not a bad happy hour for Tuesday. I wouldn't mind going back. Service was also a little different but overall, I enjoyed my experience.

As you can see from the pictures the food looked great. Well it tasted great as well. The chicken and waffles were both chewy, and crispy at the same time. The waffle batter was sweet and the chicken flavored for my taste buds. The service was ok but maybe that was because of how busy they were. I didn't enjoy the way the place is set up because you don't have much room to move around.

Our friend suggested this place so he knew the food was good. We stopped in on Friday and I was surprised that they were serving brunch. The music was good and fit the brunch ambiance, but I felt the music was slightly too loud because it was a group of us. It seemed like it was blaring on that side of the restaurant. It's not brunch unless you can find chicken and waffles. I mean the legit chicken and waffles with fried chicken not chicken tenders. I not only found chicken and waffles with fried chicken but also the "hot" one that's more like Nashville hot. I was pretty impressed with the size of the fried chicken and how perfectly cooked and not dried out! I'd give it a 9/10 just for the perfect crispness and how moist it was. The chicken was nicely marinated or brined. The only thing lacking was more heat and flavor on the "hot". I love spicy so the waitress suggested collard greens because it has a little kick to it. I tasted the little heat, but was too sour for my liking. I've never had collard greens cooked with vinegar for that sourness before so I wasn't expecting that. I found out from my friend that it's the southern way and every place makes them different. It was cooked just right but I'd prefer them prepared without that flavor. I'd definitely be back for the chicken and waffles.

I've been coming here for years and it truly used to be one of my favorite neighborhood spots. The service was always great, the staff was warm, and the prices felt fair for what you received. It had that comfortable, local vibe where you could relax and enjoy a solid meal without feeling like you were splurging. Unfortunately, my recent visit was really disappointing. For three pieces of chicken and two sides, my total came to $44 -- for one person. That pricing feels completely disconnected from what the dish actually is. What made it even more surprising is that the cost of that simple chicken plate is now the same as some of the newer menu options like crab legs and crawfish. That just doesn't make sense. On top of that, the ambience has shifted. What once felt like a cozy neighborhood restaurant now feels more "upper echelon," and not necessarily in a way that enhances the experience -- just in a way that justifies higher prices. I understand that costs go up and businesses evolve, but longtime customers notice when value changes this drastically. I truly miss the balance this place used to have between quality, service, and reasonable pricing. I hope they can find their way back to what made it special in the first place.

8/10 Ambiance is nice, it is small & cozy. Cute for a little date night or happy hour vibe with your homegirls. I really enjoyed the music playlist. Service was excellent. Now to the food, I got the HONEY BUTTER CHICKEN BENEDICT & H-TOWN HOT FRIED CHICKEN. Both were delicioussss- The only thing I would not get again is the grits, but other than that I will be back. We visited this location for brunch. Upon walking in, we were greeted promptly. When i asked about the chef special, the waiter didnt know. He asked and never got an answer. We decided to go ahead with our order. The food was good. The drawbacks for me was 1. The music was a little louder than my liking and 2. The bathrooms were terrible. Not too crowded on a late Saturday evening when we came for a late dinner/drinks. My friend who used to work here always talked about the delicious fried chicken so I was very much looking forward to trying it.. Got the Chicken waffles, fried chicken and tried out a few appetizers like the brussels sprouts and truffle fries. The food was okay, the portions were great though- very generous. The chicken tenders were massive and seasoned well. I could barely make a dent in my waffles and we both had to get to go boxes.. (Waffles are not your typical Belgium waffle in that it seemed more buttery perhaps with the buttermilk recipe) I was not a fan of the "frozen kool-aid", not sure why it was recommended by the waitress but it was literally just champagne and kool-aid pre-mixed, not sure what I was expecting lol, but in my sober state would not opt for any pre-mix high sugar cocktails. I will say the wine list here is extensive, and if we hadn't been already drinking liquor I would've opted for a glass here and enjoy the vibes at the bar. It had the feel of a sports bar more than wine with some TVs showing games and somewhat louder ambiance. Overall it's an upscale comfort food place, good for brunch and a few glasses of wine, they also have happy hour on the weekdays from 3-6 (check out the menu!)

This was my second visit at this establishment, first visit wasn't it. Glad I came back to try their brunch. Everything was phenomenal. Casual restaurant. Service was attentive. Mimosas were mimosing and food was outstanding. Can't wait to return.

Go there and get the chicken. It is perfectly seasoned perfectly fried. It was literally delicious. Also very good was the collard greens and the rice pilaf. Our servers name was Tim. He was awesome. Made great recommendations. I had the fried chicken meal. My cousin had the salmon it was cooked perfectly not overdone very flavorful delicious my other friend had the seafood pasta. The flavor was good but the sauce it's self was very very watery so they need to thicken up there roux a little bit more. And my final friend had the braise short rib, she said that the meat was flavorful, but it wasn't as Tinder as she liked over. All the meal was great the red velvet Oreos taste better than the brownie in my opinion, because the brownie with a little bit dry, but I would return back to this place of business. read more

Well well well, what can I say....went to Max's and they delivered!! I'm not from the south and was on vacation. I knew I wanted some southern comfort food and Max's Wine Dive was suggested. It was my first time at this restaurant and I'm so happy I went. Pulling up it was a smaller parking lot....pretty much a strip mall but we were able to find parking easily. I was instantly greeted by Kierra and sat at my table with people that were waiting on me. It was happy hour and hunny I love me a happy hour. I Instantly ordered a class of Rose to get my Friday started. I was in the mood for some good ole fried chicken and ordered The Famous Fried Chicken. Baaaaybeeee, it was a hit!! Totally hit the spot! The chicken was so crunchy and the flavor hit my taste buds like no other. I also tried some fried devil eggs. I have never in my life had fried deviled eggs and I can tell you they changed my life...you hear me! The food was so fresh and also came out pretty fast. Cameron and Kierra assisted us and they were super sweet! They didn't miss a beat! Checked on us often and made sure we had what we needed at every moment. My cousin ended up joining us later and they made sure to accommodate us and seat her at our table. Those two ladies made my first time at this restaurant a good time. I haven't been to this location in years. Unlike the Montrose location, there is plenty of parking. The yummy food... every time I have came to Max's in the past, I never got the shrimp and grits. I have no reason why. What I do know is that I have been missing out for YEARSSS. In MY opinion, them Grits are THE bomb. Very flavorful. My friend ordered a side order of French toast. These were good too. The only downfall is delay/forgetting our initial drink order. Whenever our frozen drinks came out, the full presentation wasn't delivered, but the drinks were still good. I was there yesterday with my family. Today, I noticed that my credit card was charged twice for my bill, my daughter noticed today that an extra tip was added and charged to her card and also my sister noticed additional charges as well today. #1 the restaurant should've been closed yesterday. We noticed that the restaurant was very humid and there were fans at the bar. The A/C wasn't working. Knats were flying all over the restaurant. My sister ordered a special that included a drink. The server never brought the drink but later brought the bill and gave a $1 credit instead of offering the drink. She didn't say anything regarding the drink that was included in the special before she gave her the bill. Very unprofessional. Never again. I can't believe the Washington location is still open and the Fairview location is closed. Fairview location was much better. Never had any issues there. read more

Well... Most if not all tables were "reserved" and empty. We were told to sit at the bar which was littered with 20 drinks when we sat down. We sat for 25 minutes without even being acknowledged by anyone until we left and went elsewhere. I checked Opentable and I could have booked a reservation just to move to a table and get served... but come on.. Why would I stay? I am never wasting my time here again, but if you want to take a gamble... Make sure you get a "reserved " table on Opentable, they're always available for a reason. read more

Upon arrival we walked in and stood at the door there were 2 girls behind bar and 2 gentlemen working, no one seemed to notice us standing at the host stand blatantly ignoring us for about 7-8 min, finally one of the men working came from outside and sat us when asking where we could sit he gave us a table not set up fully no centerpiece like the rest; we sat with menus for 15 minutes before having to get up and leave no one greeted us gave water just starred at us once again the 2 bartenders and 2 gentlemen working in the restaurant still ignoring me and my friends very judgmental and not to mention both of my friends were 2 African American men I feel they were profiling us it was very rude and unprofessional establishment, the restaurant is small and very quiet so it's not like they were too busy or it was too much going in to see us we were center of the restaurant very disappointed I liked this place before read more

Max's has such a good vibe inside. It's really intimate and has nice music. That being said, they are supposed to be known for their chicken but my parents and I all thought it was subpar. The menu says it's supposed to be fried with jalapeños and other flavors. I'm not sure if it's only the tenders, but the regular chicken is not very flavorful. But the thing that really let me down was the French toast. It's 2 pieces of bread cut diagonally. Not even Texas toast but the regular small loaf of bread. I was so disappointed when the waitress brought it. The only part I thought was good was the waffle my mom ordered, everything else was subpar. Also the mimosas are $5, but they're the tiniest mimosas I've ever seen. read more

This was my first time dining here in many many years! The experience went well. The chicken was sooo delicious! The greens were amazing too! The only thing I had a problem with is, a side of Mac n cheese was $10 dollars and the container was only 1/2 way filled. I definitely wasn't feeling that and if I would've noticed it before I left with my to go, I would've asked them to put more in the container or asked for a refund. Unfortunately I have to update my review due to food poisoning. I truly had a great time here and thought the food was delicious. However the food was extremely greasy and salty which was prob the reason. From the start, we knew the truffle fries had too much truffle oil but I ignored it. Such a shame because it was actually a good restaurant. I do not recommend for those who cannot tolerate greasy, salty, fatty foods. Pains me to write such a bad review but I ended up In the ER 7 hours later so I feel like I had no choice but to report food poisoning from eating here. read more

This is a Happy Hour review, so expectations were not the same as if it were for dinner. We were the only group there, and lots of staff seemed to be setting up for dinner. It took a bit of coaxing for service, but it finally happened, with good wine, and some of the special apps for Happy Hour. Food was good, however the music was way too loud for the space. Next time, I'll try to get the staff to turn it down! read more

It's Easter Sunday funday and I reserve my table cause I wanted some fried lobster! I'm so glad I'm reserved!!!!! This location is booked up and people are continuing to walk in to get a table. We stared off with water and a pomegranate mimosa.. (good & strong) my food order was the chicken fried lobster, greens and smothered potatoes. I assume my food would take a minute before being ready so we ordered the fried deviled eggs. But that wasn't the case, food came out right behind my drink. Lobster was overly battered but I like it, potatoes were perfect for me and the collard greens were a little to salty for my liking. Fried deviled eggs were actually better than I thought. Came here for a happy hour on Monday and it was awesome. Really great priced wines for happy hour and it's all day in Monday! Loved the Malbec that was on the menu. What really surprised me were the appetizers. They had fried deviled eggs! I love deviled eggs in general but the fried part adds a unique texture to the dish. we went to Max's for a birthday get together, told the server Christina it would be separate checks, she even knew who was on which check, somehow she decided the birthday person didn't need to pay her own check even though she ordered her own food, drinks and appetizers, Christina presented the birthday person with a drink flight and a piece of cake. As the bills are passed out she says she divided the birthday person bill on everyones check so the birthday person didn't get a check but everyone elses bill was more them they anticipated paying. I have never heard of such a thing didn't want to cause a scene so we all paid. but thats really poor judgement. there were mixed generations, different financial guidelines, different relationships. The food and atmosphere were ok. but doing that. thats crazy. So if you go be prepared to pay for your guest. read more

Great music. Great ambiance. Small walk space and small tables, were my only complaints. Love that you can see the cooks at work. The servers were excited to tell you about the food. Everything came out fairly quick, with a full house, and hot! First time in Houston and was told this was one of the must try places. Came here for a Sunday brunch. We made a reservation the same day but were still able to get a booth. They are enforcing social distancing, which I loved to see. All the workers were wearing masks, and you have to wear a mask to enter. I've heard a lot of great things about this restaurant, and I think that overall it lived up to the hype. Service was pretty good and fast. I love me some shrimp and grits, so I had to see what their take on that classic dish was like. Overall I enjoyed it. I wasn't really feeling the poached egg on top, but it didn't spoil it for me. Instead of ordering individual mimosas as, we got a couple bottles of Prosecco ($30 each) and tried all the different juices they had available (orange, pineapple, and grapefruit). I didn't like the fact that our booth was right next to the restroom. Like RIGHT next to it. So we had to endure people walking past us and into the bathroom the entire time we were there. Also they were missing a couple mimosa flavors we wanted to try. Overall though, it was a good experience, and I'd come again. read more

My wife loved her cob salad, with their fried chicken strip. My daughter loved her creamy mac and cheese with no add-ons. I had their famous 3 piece buttermilk fried chicken pieces with collard greens, toast, potatoes with "funky" tasting honey. It's fine, but not at $25. Overpriced. Service was weak, the water refill had to be requested, plus our waitress never checked on us and we had to use the water person to get a to go box and request the check. My wife loved the weird honey and collard greens. So the place was a hit with daughter and wife, while I just thought it was ok. We found the interior surprisingly easy to talk , despite its small size and the background music very nice. Place has a nice vibe and I am sure wine lovers adore it. read more

This is my second go round here. I have not been here in years. This was the Washington location with decent parking. Our waitress was on point. She continued to check on us. The food presentation was good. I just needed a little more seasoning. That is my personal opinion. The greens tasted like granny was in the kitchen with a little sweetness. I got a side to go! Hubby and I went here for dinner to celebrate our 16-year wedding anniversary. It's Houston Restaurant week, so we ordered from the set menu, which was a good deal. The portions are a little small, and I prefer white meat over dark meat for the chicken. The salmon was delicious, though, and so was the macaroni and cheese. I've been going to MAX's Wine Dive for years now. I was once told that the owners wife is celiac and that is why they have so many amazing gluten free options. I am not sure if that is true or not, but either way props to them for going above in beyond to allow the celiac community such an unbelievable gluten free dish. My friend purchased a rosé and a Pinot Grigio as part of their Last Sail wines. Actually, the Pinot Grigio wasn't part of the sale, and he was going to take off 20%, but he also made it 50% off. We sat at the bar and the server took our order. I got a sweet wine and we split a small board. I got the brie with prosciutto and she got cheddar with salami. They do charge extra for the prosciutto cut. The jam that comes on the board is her favorite and it's delicious. We chatted with each other and with some gentleman that said they were regulars there. It was a lovely evening. I will definitely return so that I can try their s'mores board.

Inside's a bit small with a few tables and a bar, but the outdoor seating is the real charm when the weather's nice. The service was excellent, the wait staff came out to our big group outside multiple times and even brought out samples for us to try. There are small bites for order and the menu is simple yet descriptive, we got to sample some of the charcuterie as well, and it did pair well with some of the reds I've tried. Overall, friendly atmosphere, relaxing vibes, attentive wait staff, not much more you can wish for from a neighborhood wine bar.

There are books abound, along the walls, in the bathroom, everywhere. I had a glass of Experience, a Californian Cabernet Sauvignon. It was a good pour, not too little or too much and the taste was deep, well balanced and smooth. Since the event took place around dinner time I also had a Fig and Speck flatbread. The fig, prosciutto and other toppings complimented each other well. The flatbread dough itself was ok but could've benefited from a little more flavor such as some garlic, butter and herbs. I also would've liked it a bit thinner so I could taste less of the bread and more of those delicious toppings. Don't get me wrong it was good and I ate all of it but these are small suggestions I'd recommend to bring it to perfection. I could see parking and seating being tricky. I was fortunate to snag a parking spot on the side of the building near the auto place and once inside I found a seat at a table with a lovely couple, another couple joined us soon after. Many of the guests who arrived later stood at first and then halfway through the event, made their way to the floor where they sat cross legged. All in all, The Library was a nice establishment and although a little out of my way, I'd return for another event or if I were in the area again.

She then text our friends group and said we all had to come together and we did just that. She made reservations in advance as this place is popular thanks to recent Michelin Bib Gourmand awards as well as many other accolades. Walk ins are welcome as well. Our reservation was later in the evening so after a night of bar hopping, we ride shared in which I think is one of the best options as parking is limited here or you have to find street parking in the neighborhood. This place is literally a house turned into a restaurant. Inside is just multiple rooms with a couple of tables. It makes for a unique, intimate dining experience, perfect for a date night. In our case, we were a group of nine so we got patio seating. The patio is spacious and well kept, and if the weather cooperates, a great place to hang. One thing that really stood out to me is the amazing ambience of this place. I was told that the bartenders pick the music for the night from the owners extensive vinyl collection. Once the album is in, they play it in it's entirety. The sound system was systeming and on top of the great company and food, we were totally vibing with the music. Customer service was amazing. Every staff member we came across was so friendly, especially our server. The menu here changes. There are some mainstays, but they like to change things up. Their website shows current menus daily. We were told that family style is the best way to experience this restaurant. I am one of those people that will always listen to the staff and go with their suggestions. Our group went through quite a bit of their menu from apps, entrees and desserts. I loved that our server and staff brought our food out one by one in what they thought was the best progression so we could take a culinary journey. We started off light with their popular Dilly Bread. Best bread I've had in awhile. Next was the Texas Tartare. It was my first ever tartare and it was delicious. We then moved on to Fingerlingin Good which was a crispy potato dish with chili crisp and mascarpone. It was potatoes elevated to the highest level and so so good. Next up was Beer Battered Sweet Tots. I didn't think sweet potatoes could be that good. Our first entree was a vegan dish called the Carroty Kid. I could seriously become a vegan if all dishes tasted like this. It was curried. A bowl of jasmine rice would've made it a complete meal. Next we tried another famous Nobie's dish called Nonno's Pasta. Handmade, perfectly cooked tagliatelle with a delicious bolognese. I wouldn't share this next time. Ok, I will, but it was that good. On to the heavier dishes. First up was the Jamon With Your Bad Self. This came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was favorite heavy entree. It was high quality, iberico pork steak with shaved brussels and all kinds of other tasty ingredients that when combined made such a tasty bite. We then went to the sea with the Drops of Grouperter. It was good, but not something I would order again. It was a little too smoky for my liking. Our biggest dish that came market priced was the Kick His Ass Seabass. This was a whole fish that was presented beautifully on a platter with all the accouterments to make your own elevated fish tacos. We left no morsel of fish behind. It was absolutely delicious. One of the things this place is really known for is their pies. This was the part I was most excited about. Just like their menu, their pies change up. We got all their offerings that night which they presented on one big platter of goodness. Their main stay and I believe always on the menu is the famous Olive Oil Cake. It's not a pie, but I can see why this is such a popular dessert. I can't even describe it, you just have to try it to understand. The pies we had were the Black Bottom Strawberry Pie, Banana Rum, and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would order all of them again. We all had a difference of opinion on which was the best, but my fave was the Banana Rum. Overall, I was highly impressed with this place and kind of mad at myself for waiting so long to make it here. It had made it's way to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. The pork's texture was simply magical, and the flavors well-balanced. On the side, we had the Fingerlingin Good potatoes, and they lived up to their name: pleasantly crispy and bursting with savory goodness. Desserts: the Olive Oil Cake was a dream: incredibly moist and tender with vanilla richness and a kiss of lemon. The Black Bottom Pie was not my favorite. I would the salt to be too much and couldn't eat more than 2 bites because of it. Service: warm, gracious, attentive, and efficient. As for ambiance, this is where the restaurant misses the mark for me. It's in an old house, and when we walked in, that's exactly what I smelled: old house. Still, if you're looking for a unique, creative menu that delivers on flavors, add nobie's to your bingo card.

GM Kevin, should review the footage of the private party event that happened yesterday for the table of 17 & definitely reprimand, retrain, and reconsider some of this staff. Once he left, the night appeared to go downhill. The food was absolutely delicious. The live music in the background was also quite impressive. The service on the other hand was horrible. I took several out of town clients in hope of showing them a great time. When we arrived, there was no hostess, so we went to go sit at a table. The waiter said we can't sit there, because only a hostess can sit us at an empty table (there were several empty tables). Apparently the hostess was no where to be found. 5 minutes later, after standing next to an empty table, they came back and said it was ok for us to sit there. Our server was extremely rude and condescending. She treated us as if we were not good enough for this establishment. It was all of our first times there, so obviously we didn't know what we wanted to order just yet. So we started with water and looked over the menu. She did make some great recommendations on which food items to get, but that was about the extent of her politeness. Once our food arrived we decided to order some wine, but as we were looking over the wine list, she came and took the wine list to give it to the table next to us, without even asking if we wanted anything. Apparently, my guests by appearance, were not the upscale clientele that she prefers. The worst part was at the end, when we paid our bill. We paid in cash and tipped well, but she took it, didn't even ask if we needed change, and never returned to the table. She just assumed that all of it was for her. (It was, but it was still the simple principal of practicing good customer service.) All of my guests felt extremely upset and unhappy with their experience. I will not take the chance and bring clients to this place again. If I return, I'll go by myself and just sit at the bar, as the food was indeed amazing. read more

My husband and I came to Max's during happy hour. I ordered the chicken and champagne sandwich and he had the wings. Both were surprisingly interesting and tasty, and very reasonably priced at $6. The plates aren't huge, but it was enough food for me to consider it my dinner. (Husband might have eaten again later that night.) I would recommend Max's in two situations: (1) A first or early-on date. I'm not a huge fan of the Washington Ave. vibe, but this place has a good "date" atmosphere. The interesting food choices, open kitchen (best seen sitting at the bar), great people watching, and the sheer volume of wine choices make for plenty of conversation. Just be warned that if either of you is drinking wine the tab will climb fast- making this less appealing to a married person like me who would rather cook a nice dinner and open my own $7 bottle at home. (2) If you're not out to impress someone- i.e. long-term relationship out for a routine meal or with a friend- come here for Happy Hour and order food and $2 Lone Stars. read more

Max's is our go-to Sunday dinner location. We prefer to sit at the bar which on Sunday nights there is almost always an opening. Its fun to watch the chef's prepare your meal right in front of you. The waiters and bartenders here are some of the best and will give you some enjoyable conversation. We typically start with a cheese place (Currently the cheese is from Mairy Maids in Houston). We then almost always split our main meal (This is comfort food). We typically split one of the large plates such as Kobe Burger, Fried Chicken, or Grilled Cheese which usually comes with soup. Our favorite menu item, Cowboy Sushi, has been removed. Cowboy Sushi was cheese and peppers rolled in a thin slice of grilled tender beef. I've been to Max's several times actually, and I love the place. The food, first of all, is fantastic. From seasonal entrees (wild boar pasta) and small plates (crawfish hush puppies), to their year-round dishes like fried chicken and kobe burgers, I've never had a 'miss'. Delicious, fresh and relatively affordable for the caliber of food. The wine list evolves often at Max's and they are more than happy to let you taste a few until you get the right bottle or glass for you. We've discovered some very affordable wines tasting at Max's, and the best part is you can buy retail at super-competitive prices right from the bartenders to take home! Go ahead and check Spec's prices and you'll see they are right in line. And Max's has some higher end tasty wines too. read more

love max's wine dive. have been there about 10 times over the past few years. they have awesome staples like the sliders, mac and cheese, fried chicken and burgers. and they mix it up every now and then with a new menu every season. the mac and cheese and fattening as can be but delicious. I get it with the cornbread. the fried egg sandwich is money but i ask for the truffle oil on the side b/c it gets to greesy. my only compliant is that i wish there were more options for wine drinking by the glass. the have only one or two to choose from from a few varieties of grapes if you want a glass. For a wine bar they done have that many options for al a carte wine drinking. brunch is great and the mimosas keep on coming! read more

I love the food at this place, I am an Uber Eats delivery driver and also a customer, my favorite is their CRISPY DEVILED EGGS , and Jose just made me aware of their fries - truffle drizzle with parmesan shavings. I was just in there tonight ordering for myself and picking up an order for a customer and I got the whole treatment from JOSE the Food Specialist manager, ANGEL the pretty hostess and Corey - the Culinary Creation Specialist. Jose and Corey not only presented me with my food but gave descriptions that were mouth watering and compelling. (Healthy food) I had been recommended this spot by a few friends and thought this a perfect opportunity to try it out. Definitely wasn't disappointed! The food here is pretty good and service is okay. I came for brunch only and I'm not sure how other times of the day are. The wine recommendations are great! I had a glass of Pino grigio and a glass of cab...both recommended by our super nice waitress, I was not disappointed. If you take a glass of something already open, they take 15% off the price, which is a great deal. Still a cool place to check out. read more

Finally, really good fried chicken in Houston. We've been to most of the high rated places and quite frankly, I would think the Houston could do better. But, at Max's the fried chicken is great. The collards are the best I've had. We didn't have reservations so we sat at the bar. Not complaining at all, we sit at the bar by choice a lot. The service was very fast and friendly. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with scrambled eggs and cheese grits. The place was very crowded and there is usually a wait if you do not have a reservation. Once seated the waiter was prompt getting drink and food orders. Food arrived in a timely manner and was delicious, the cheese grits were not as good as the rest of the food. My friend ordered crepes which were also very delicious. This place is small and very loud, you will get to know your neighbors. One of the best chickens in houston! they do not have much on their menu but everything they have is worth getting!. even though the prices are a little higher (probably the area and etc) everything turned out delicious . We've visited Max's Wine Dive several times and each time the food is delicious. I like how they only offer wine and no sodas. If you want a coke, well, you are out of luck here at Max's. Personally, I think that is a good idea. The negatives... it is a bit noisy at times. I found myself having to shout at the person across the table to be heard. Also, the seating is very close together and when it is crowded you will find yourself sitting very close to a stranger at the next table or bench seat. read more

Every time I'm in Houston, I always have to do Sunday brunch here just for the chicken fried lobster and creme brûlée french toast! Oh my! I have tried two other items on the menu and was not impressed but this combo is a heavenly must try, my goodness! Don't forget a mimosa to accompany! Our waitress, Theresa, was FABULOUS! She gave us the inside scoop of mixing and matching on our menu and we were able to try a few items! The Max n cheese was delicious!
