The food is fine, nothing special. The service was friendly and the interior is clean. The prices are too high. A turkey club, chips and drink for $19+ with tax is nuts. Really. No combo deals and no fountain drinks are "misses" IMO. Also ... I'm glad they keep it clean because many places do not these days, but they were mopping as I ate there. Not a fan. We stopped in to pick up Breakfast for friends - my husband that loves fresh lox bagels My experience is don't go until your order is placed online. Unless we went back and requested we would not have gotten my blueberry muffin. Even after we got it, it looked gorgeous but tasted like chemicals. I also ordered a French toast bagel & cinnamon walnut tub. Both were disappointing. Coffee taste burnt. I had also ordered the tuna melt but was told their equipment was on back order. These are the best bagels in Louisville. There's another spot that gets a lot of good reviews, but their bagels are a bit hard and not always the freshest. They have a lot of different flavors, although only one sweet flavor. (French toast.) I would like to have a choice between that, chocolate chip and blueberry, personally but it's a small place. Maybe they'll expand as they get more customers. Their bagels have the perfect texture and chew. Soft on the inside, chewy on the outside. I haven't had their bagel sandwiches, but they look amazing! I post this review on google too because I want everyone to know: I've ordered from here on doordash over ten times. I am a loyal customer. This time, I called because I tried to explain to the owner (whose English was unclear) that I would like to request honey mustard on the side with the order. He told me I did not ask for it when I ordered. I am aware and that is why I was calling. There was no way to put it in the notes as they did not allow notes, if selected it would go on the sandwich versus on the side. I finally was told the order already left. That's fine. The problem is that I was told not to order from here again if I'm rude which I was not. I was actually in a good mood and nice, but the owner did not understand me clearly and got rude with me. I even explained I was a loyal customer. I was even ordering for someone new as I explained how good this place was in addition to placing my own order. It is my last time. And that's unfortunate. I tried to clarify with the owner because it's just a simple misunderstanding (language barrier stuff), but he kept telling me not to order again. Okay then. The thing is that attitude matters. Customer service matters and if the owner is going to treat loyal, nice customers this way when they are just confused by his accent and what he's saying and trying to work with him and clarify a situation, he will continue to lose customers. I've seen it happen before even to the best restaurants when they treat customers badly. Oh well. Their loss because it is my last order. Maya Bagel Express has opened on Poplar Level, within a stones throw of another place known for bagels and baked goods. I was a little skeptical of whether Maya would be another chain kind of place, or would it be some folks making them local and in house. From what I can tell, it's the latter and it's good. I arrived right around lunch on Black Friday. There was a line, but the folks working were knocking it out with a smile. Definitely a family-run vibe and you could sense maybe dad and mom and others were all on deck. I ordered the Turkey Club with bacon on a plain bagel. It's a little pricy at $11 ($9 for sandwich +2 for the bacon), but relative to everything else these days, as long as it is quality sandwich, why not? It was quality and I have not had a bagel sandwich since the Dooley's days. Maya uses Boars Head meats. My sandwich had a good amount of roasted turkey with lettuce, tomato and cheese, along with several strips of bacon and mayo. I also ordered 6 bagels with that; 2 plain, 2 sesame and 2 everything. When checking out, the guy manning the register referred to every customer as "boss". Hey, I guess it's no different than the oft-used "hon" or "honey". I liked that. He knocked out grabbing the bagels from the bin, but mixed my order up with the folks in front of me. No big deal, we sorted it out. No harm, no foul. The boss man made sure we were all ok. I took my five minute drive home and opened the bag. All of the bagels were warm....nice. After I put away the turkey sandwich I took a chunk out of one of the everything bagels. It too was how a bagel should be; that sort of light resistant chewy exterior and dense but soft inside. Outstanding coating of "everything". Bagels are $2 each, or 6 for $10. Various creme cheeses are available and on my next visit, I'll be checking those out. Some nice folks and the bagel quality reminded me of a place we used to have in Louisville way back in the 80's, Willy Z's. Are they better than that other place across the parking lot. Gave them a third try to see if maybe my early assessments were a bit tough. They were not. This place is a slightly better Bruegger's except their coffee is not as good. On the plus side they did finally have whole wheat bagels. However, they are not making great bagels, just meh. Their prices on bagel breakfast sandwiches are outrageous at $9+, higher than any place I went into Manhattan last month. If you're going to charge that much in Louisville, you better bring it with a great bagel that is also seeded on all sides. Tried to eat my bagel on one of the outside tables but the owner was parked at the table closest to the entrance chain smoking. We love Maya Bagels and it's a treat to go there but today was the end of our good time! A few weeks ago we ate in their restaurant and brought some of our friends and couldn't believe they charged $1 for a small cup of tap water. Then today we got bacon, egg & cheese bagel and 6 bagels to go, I asked if the 6 could be sliced and guy told me $3 to cut them!!
