What a complete disappointment. It was my birthday and I had a speaking engagement nearby so I invited 10 friends to join me for brunch after I went in three hours before we were going to eat and asked if I could have a table for 10 to 12 and was assured that would happen when my party arrived there was no table, but they cobbled something together which was nice. Of the 10 friends only two said the food was OK. The rest were very disappointed. My food arrived 45 minutes to an hour after everyone else's my burger was raw and I had ordered it well done. I took one bite and threw it away. When Management came to ask how everything was I deferred to my other family members because I did not want to complain then they specifically ask me and I was honest. Instead of offering to comp or refund my meal, they offered to remake my burger, but we had already been there for 70 minutes and it took 55 for my burger to come out. They brought me a beet juice which was delicious. I just sold my café four months ago in Montana and anytime a customer was not completely satisfied. I comped their meal or reimbursed them for the purchase price. I love the people here. I love the concept, but today was a complete disappointment and I know nine people will probably never return. read more

One of the best breakfast spots in Louisville -- Foko never disappoints. The coffee is excellent (their cortados are a highlight and has become a regular coffee order around town), and the menu brings creative Southern-Mexican fusion flavors that hit every time. Back 6 years later and this brick and mortar space is much bigger and expansive. It is essentially now a museum, and at times has dancing. I really enjoyed the coffee. Best breakfast burrito I've had in Kentucky. The tacos were really good too. Portions were perfect - left us full but still enough energy to be able to explore for the day. Definitely on the lighter side. They have a full bar and espresso bar. The cappuccinos and lattes were very good as well. I went to Foko after hearing nonstop hype about it being one of the absolute best breakfast spots in Louisville. The place is positioned as this incredible Mexican breakfast destination, so I figured it had to be something special. Turns out it's just standard Mexican food and drinks. Even if they were using using "the freshest most highest quality ingredients", it doesn't show in the final product at all. Heres what i got: The Espresso Martini ($14) was actually decent--nice and foamy with a solid chocolate note. The Carajillo ($8), on the other hand, was weak. It tasted like plain iced coffee with zero detectable alcohol. I wouldn't order it again. The Wake Up Burrito $14: their biggest hype item. I got it and added chorizo for $3.50, bringing the total to nearly $17.50. It's sausage, cheese, eggs, and beans wrapped up--pretty good, but nothing groundbreaking. Without their green sauce it's completely average, no different from any regular breakfast burrito at a diner. The green sauce itself is what really the only saving grace, but they serve it in tiny thimble-size portions like they're guarding some secret recipe. So for $18 you get a medium-size burrito plus a couple of fried tortillas with cheese on the side. Compare that to mexican spot like Bandito, where the burritos are twice the size and cost much less. This one is seriously overrated. The Chilaquiles - I got the side order of these with the burrito, and were average at best. Just fried tortillas with cheese and a little sauce that had a slightly sour edge. Not bad, but nothing I'd call amazing. I thought to myself, if these had egg and beans(what the main dish has) , would I have been glad to pay $17? The answer is no. Ive had better at the airport. Bottom line: Foko is incredibly overrated. It feels like a tourist trap built for people for those Luisville people who who don't eat much Mexican food and think this is the pinnacle. I get it, the decor is nice and gives that "premium" feel but the prices are way too high for what you actually get. I won't be back. read more

We stopped for a light bite during one of our training walks and it was just right. Counter ordering service and food then brought to the table. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Lovely bright space with loads of natural light, which was a delight on a mild February day. Glass garage doors allow for more open air dining during favorable weather. I was really drawn in by the aesthetic of this place and the menu looked great! Ultimately, I was disappointed by the food. Given the price and the ingredients listed I expected a bit more flavor and size wise. The salad tasted great, but there was maybe a handful of actual greens in the entire salad. The potatoes were overcooked and had a slightly off tangy sauce on top. The electro burrito was the tiniest thing, and my partner said it tasted "okay", but came with a great sauce. The side biscuit was fluffy and the jam was serviceable. Ultimately, I just really expected more based on their awesome concept and reputation. The saving grace was the PHENOMENAL tequila espresso martini. I would go back for that, but probably only that. read more

Foko presents itself as southern-inspired Mexican, and while true, it is so, so much more. The entire staff is obviously passionate about service, community, and food, and this dedication to their craft is evident in the way they operate the business and interact with customers. Foko was hopping during a recent weekend brunch, but despite this the staff made time to answer questions, provide recommendations, and ensure we had everything we needed for a truly excellent experience. Although it was busy we only had to wait a few minutes for an open table, so it's clear they've curated the inside space (both practical aspects like seating, and aesthetic aspects like decor and art) intentionally. Dishes we tried included: -Avocado toast: a generous pile of gently seasoned avocado spread on thick sourdough. -Enmoladas: GAH THE BEST. Thick corn tortillas wrapped around perfectly cooked and seasoned vegetables, rice, and beans. This dish is entirely vegan as is, and includes both vegan feta and vegan crema. -Mango bowl: a big old (not actually old) mango served with tajin and a lime wedge to squeeze on top. If you haven't tried tajin on mango this is the place to do it. -Cubano coffee: just get this. It's perfect. Brunch here is not cheap. But brunch here is worth it. And you are worth it. Really cool spot next to Logan Street Market. We arrived at the perfect time (around 10am) cause the line exploded right after we ordered, so this is clearly a popular spot. You order at the counter & they bring the food out to you, which was unexpected. But it's nice to know that it's a low pressure dining experience without table service, and with the crazy amount of seating, it would be easy to return & linger for a little longer with some work or a book. We sat outside, and despite the heat, it was very pleasant since they had some ceiling fans and good coverage from the sun. I got the avocado toast and added an egg. I loved how they used avocado chunks instead of guacamole, which was ideal for texture, and the pickled jalapeños were a fantastic touch. My only complaint was the sourdough toast was too soggy so the "toast" fell apart. I wish it had been crisped up and toasted or griddled longer. My boyfriend ordered the side of mango, and it was slightly savory with the spices sprinkled on top -- delicious! His biscuit was also extremely fluffy and flaky. However, no butter or jam was provided so he had to go up and order some, and when it arrived, it was a slab of cold butter, which was not spreadable. Room temp or whipped butter would have been preferable. I ordered a cortado, as per usual, and it was very good. I slurped that thing right up. I adore it here! My family came here for breakfast and I had no idea it was also an art gallery but it's gorgeous. Staff was so kind and everything was quick but not in a rushed way. I'm gonna be real, the food here is good but the portion sizes are NOT it. I ordered an Electric Burrito with crispy chicken and it came with a mango/fruit salad and jalapeño salsa. The flavor of everything was quite nice and it's one of the better burritos I've had. The latte was alright, nothing too different from other places. The price you pay vs the portion sizes is just disappointing, and lowk it feels like a rip off. The service here was great though. Very chill vibes even down to the decor; it feels like you're in someone's home in a way, and everyone was really nice. I'd say come try it once since the food is pretty unique. Stopped in with the hubs for lunch on a Thursday and we were not disappointed. It was a beautiful day and we were able to sit outside. To drink I had Jugo del amor which is the carrot, apple, ginger, beet juice. It was so delicious and refreshing. To keep with the freshness I ordered the ensalada de manzana which was perfect. I had breakfast with some coworkers at Foko a couple of weeks ago - not our first visit - but probably our last. Everyone's food, while tasty, was barely warm like it had been left out and never brought to us. The fancy coffees my friend and I ordered were lukewarm at best so I nicely asked if they could be heated up? The server offered to remake them, but I said nicely no need to go to all that trouble, just warm them up please. She brought the coffees back maybe 5 minutes later and I couldn't tell if they were remade or warmed up because they were both still cold. Another member of our group had to wait forever for his food; in fact, we were all finished before his arrived. One other friend asked a server for a coffee refill which never arrived. All-in-all a very disappointing visit. We will be going to a different spot for our next get together breakfast. read more

I found Foko as a result of a Yelp event I attended. My husband and I decided to try the free dance classes offered by Tumbao collective on Tuesday at Foko. The classes are free but you can make a donation to the nonprofit business. The night we attended Bachata was taught by Brittney. It was really fun! After the class there is a social. When my wife woke up on the Saturday before her birthday, she had one thing on her mind: Foko. It was not a hard sell for me because it's close to our house and I enjoyed their chilaquiles at their first location at Logan Street Market. However, this was my first time to their standalone spot, so I walked over very intrigued. It was a nice spring day, so the patio was open and packed. My wife grabbed a table inside while I stood in line to order at the counter. Despite the crowd, the line moved quickly and we placed our orders. Even though it was counter service, they do bring the food out to you, which was nice. We love to split dishes, which can be tricky at some places because my wife has a gluten allergy. Fortunately, Foko has a lot of delicious GF options, so we ordered 3 items and a cocktail. The margarita was refreshing and exactly what I needed to set a nice celebratory tone. The breakfast tacos were spectacular and held together well. I thought the omelette was great and not something we can make at home. My favorite part though was Ivone's Sopes. I don't know what it was about them, but they hit the spot and I'll definitely order again. We had a great experience at Foko and it's easy to see why it's a destination and usually crowded. The food was tasty, but nothing magical. It's clear that they want to be hip and cool and that's what they charge you for. The workers were never rude, just "distant". The stake an eggs were $31 and there was a good amount of fat in it so it didn't feel super worth the price. They did acomódate and took the melon out of my fruit bowl as requested. My toast was $15 after I added an egg to it, and I was pretty hungry soon after. Also the acoustics of the back room are not great, which creates lots of echoing and made it hard to focus. So I have heard of Foko but, never ate here even when it was located in Logan Street Market. They moved into the building next to the market in what used to be Art Bar and Tim Faulkner Art Gallery. I have heard some good things about this place but after my first visit here, it was just ok. I ordered their burger with fries and a Mexican Coke which was jumbo sized. The burger was good except there was some type of seasoning in the meat patty that I was not a big fan of. Fries were good and so was the coke even though it was more than I wanted. Foko!!! My favorite Logan Street Market vendor now has its own brick-and-mortar restaurant steps from the market. I love that I can now experience and support Foko in a larger way. This new spot is bright, cozy and inviting, in the former gallery space at Logan and Kentucky streets. It has a bar with some tables, and guests order at the counter, with food then brought to you. After much debate about several good looking items on the menu, I got the strawberry tres leches pancakes, inspired by the guy sitting next to us who got the same. These pancakes were large, super moist and sweet. So filling. The perfect morning indulgence. I also got a cortado and a dirty horchata. If you are a fan of dirty chai lattes, that last drink is for you. My friends and I ended up staying for a couple of hours to chat, and the staff was so friendly throughout. Oh, and be sure to see if there are any baked goods by the register to order. We shared some banana bread that was warm and just delightful. Looks like Foko also delivers, so if you can't make it over here, getcha some of this delicious food to your house. Been wanting to try this place for a while after a friend recommended it and it did not disappoint. My wife and I came by on a Sunday and there was a decent crowd. With bar seating and a couple of table in the main area we actually had to go into the adjoining room to find seating which wasn't an issue at all. Also, if the weather is nice there is a medium sized patio right out front with outdoor seating. Service was great, everyone was nice and ordering was easy. You order when you first walk in and then your food and drinks are delivered to your table. Both of which came out quickly and everything we chose was delicious. I decided on the Wake Up Louisville Burrito with added chorizo and it has amazing flavor. My wife chose the avocado toast and it was very fresh, and a fairly big portion.
