I'm not sure what has changed since our last visit but we left underwhelmed and disappointed. I ordered a burger this time, and I think they did a poor job drying the lettuce as my burger was dripping water - not appealing. They definitely changed the French fries and are now using what I call swimming pool fries - the cheap ones they'd feed you at the pool growing up. The service was lacking - our table (and plenty others) was still dirty and we had to help our server finish wiping it instead of her coming around to do it herself. The icing on the top of the cake was watching what we assume was a manager almost make a kid cry because she was belittling him for how he was proceeding with his ice cream and orders instead of explaining to him why he should do it a specific way - and never said a word to another employee about their processes. We'll probably let this one sit unvisited for awhile. Not worth the disappointment. read more

This place took me back to the diners I loved to eat at in Mt. Airy (the real Mayberry) of my childhood. The menu is simple and I enjoyed my two hotdogs and hot chips. My children enjoyed their super affordable chicken nuggets and mini corn dog meals! The best part of the meal was the ice cream sundaes that came with the kids meals. The ice cream was sooo good and it came with the wafer cookies in it. Honestly would go back just for an ice cream sundae! Also, our waitress was so attentive and kind!! We felt well taken care of. Was craving some ice-cream after my stomach was on fire having some extra spicy dumplings! I started out thinking of the usual suspect Cold Stone, but when this popped up in my saved places I figured lets go out of my way to try out a local restaurant and see what it is all about. And let me tell you all, it was definitely worth it! I got there around 8:15 PM and it had a dinner cum ice parlor feel to it. You walk in and on the right they have all the ice creams, you get to try whatever you want (unlike most places post COVID) and pick from an array of Sundae options in the menu. Infound their options to be classic and timeless. We went for the hot fudge sunday with Chocolate chip cookie dough and pecan praline and absolutely loved the ice cream! They put yhese 2 wafers in the sundae and topped it with whipped cream and a cherry. We loved the flavors, and prices were hreat but we felt they were a bit stingy with the fudge. What does one do when they are craving something sweet late at night? Find a new ice cream place, of course! So one fine Saturday evening, we were craving ice cream, and decided to give this place a try. Both the exterior and the interior give an old-school diner kind of vibe, and I am not complaining! Our server was kind enough to answer our million questions about different sundaes, and even help us with some tasting. After much deliberation we decided to get a Hot Fudge Sundae, but instead of just 2 vanilla scoops, we got one scoop of choco chip with cookie dough and a scoop of pecan praline. I've been coming to this delightful, down home restaurant since moving to High Point 25 years ago. It's not always quiet (small children and babies are often in attendance), but for the most part it is quiet and friendly. What really impressed me today was the exceptional service. I had ordered a chef's salad, and it was way too much for me to finish, so I packed the leftover salad into a to-go container and finished my iced tea. Well, I left without it. Duh. After five minutes I realized I had left the salad on the table, and went back to retrieve it, but alas, the efficient staff had tossed it. Drat. But what I did not expect was their incredible generosity! Staff members made me a new half salad, and gave it to me in a new to-go container and didn't charge me for it. Do not go here. The employees are not interested in taking care of the customers at all. Rude and dismissive. Three employees stayed in the back when we walked in, ignored us for at least 15 minutes. We asked if we could order ice cream and the girl said," I am not a waitress." We were eventually told to sit down to order ice cream. We did, and the "not a waitress" brought us menus. I went here with a co-worker and had a nice lunch. We didn't get a ticket so when we got to register we told the guy what we had. My friends was the special of the day for $9.99. He charged her $12.99. She questioned him and said this is on special for $9.99 and he looked at her and said "well there is nothing I can do about it now!" I said you can void it. He said I would have to get my manager to do that . We ask if he was there. He said yeah but he is busy. No he wasn't. He was standing there talking to the waitress. He did have his back to us. We were on our lunch hour and there was a long line behind us, so she paid it and told the guy that she wouldn't ever come back. He didn't give two f@!ks if we or anyone else ever came back. The food is not consistent from week to week. Not sure what you are getting and how you get it. The service is par. If the kids working would not stand and socialize with one another and check on their customers it would make the experience better. Out of the six servers/cashier working the noise was unacceptable. Mayberry is another High Point tradition (although it originated in Winston-Salem) and is known for it's yummy ice cream desserts. It definitely has the small town "mom and pop" feel. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with a selection of all their homemade ice cream flavors to sample and choose. You can even buy handpacked pints to go. Buy 6 pints and get the 7th free. The restaurant has plenty of seating (mostly booths) and also serves diner-style food, although I've never tried any myself. Their sandwiches are supposed to be pretty good. However, to my childhood friends and I, we've always known Mayberry as the place to get ice cream in High Point. There are four other Mayberry locations and they're all in Winston-Salem. read more

We took the kids to grab some ice cream at Mayberry yesterday. I've lived in the area for nearly 2 years and this was my first trip to Mayberry. The selection of ice cream flavors is pretty good. The size of a scoop is large and they serve it to you with Vanilla Wafer cookies! I was disappointed in a few things, however. When just getting ice cream, we were encouraged to sit outside. Apparently the tables inside are for those ordering off menu. While this is fine, there are only 4 tables outside! The service from those scooping ice cream was pretty good for kids so young. They seemed generally happy and answered all of the questions we had. The young lady who checked us out however had zero personality. I mean not even a "Have a nice day." I tipped in cash instead of on my card and she slipped it into her apron. I am not sure if they tip share here, but lady that tip was for the dudes scooping ice cream! This Mayberry has improved exponentially over the course of the last few years. They've had a renovation and seem to keep the restaurant a lot cleaner. The managers/owner are always really helpful and kind, but the rest of the staff leaves a bit to be desired. If you're craving simple, quickly prepared food, this is the place for you. They offer anything from hot dogs and hamburgers to egg salad sandwiches. They are known, however, for their bean and bacon soup and old fashioned ice cream. When we visit, we usually stick with water and dessert. The strawberry pound cake with vanilla ice cream and the banana splits are where it's at. If you can't down the entire banana split, opt for the smaller version in a sundae. They're on special right now. This is one place where you step foot back in time. Ordered from Mayberry's via UberEats and was very disappointed with my order. My sandwich & soup combo was missing the soup and made with the wrong bread. I added a side of what they call "a very generous portion of fries" on both meals, the fries were ice cold, and hard. Everyone comments about the bad service and i would like to give my input from a previous employee standpoint. First off the amount they pay is completely illegal, the waitress minimum wage of 2.13 an hour, even though we were required to make ice cream, sundaes, etc. On slow nights I would make less than $3 an hour (which included the "generous" 2.13 an hour). On top of that, the owner talked to me, as well as the other employees like we were dogs. No wonder they can't hire anyone decent. read more

Peach Ice cream. Peach ice cream with real pieces of peach sans peach pit. Mayberry's serves a perfect scoop, or two or three, of ice cream. Real ice cream. It's spartan in decor, primarily with the obligatory white and red of an ice cream parlor, but it boasts a good selection of real ice creams, from the trendy bright blue something to the traditional chocolate. Mayberry's is also a restaurant, although I can't speak to that, I didn't stop for food, but it seemed to be doing a booming business. Next time I'm in the area, I would probably stop again, if only to see if I could still time my arrival for peach season and some more of that peach ice cream.
