We recently had our upstairs four bedrooms, hallway and stairs re-carpeted by Mayfair and we were totally impressed by the value of the carpet and the perfect installation. They have their own experienced crew and do not use sub contractors. I was shocked by how much work their installers accomplished in just one day! All we needed to do was remove books and lamps and items from the closet floors. The two guys did all the rest of the furniture moving. Anyone who has bought wall to wall carpeting can tell you that the cost is one thing but the installation is everything! All of our seams are invisible and the stairway has complicated wrap-around steps and posts at the bottom that looks like the carpet has just grown around the posts! Also, I provided a handful of screws and they fixed a squeaky spot in our bedroom floor, after 30 years of suffering! I DO NOT!! recommend this business based on my experience. After being charged the full amount for my flooring order by the salesmen Aerial when we were originally told we would be paying for 1/2 the cost upfront, I repeatedly tried to get answers about the charge and my order status. I was told a sales representative would call me back, but that never happened. Weeks later, I was still having to chase down information ourselves, often being met with rude and dismissive responses. More than 7 weeks after ordering, we had received no proactive updates and were beyond the quoted delivery timeframe. When we called for answers, we were simply told the flooring had not shipped. I decided to cancel the order and request a refund. The day before going to the store, I spoke with Dean, who became defensive and argumentative rather than helping resolve the issue. When I arrived at the store to request my refund in person, I was told no manager was available to process it. After weeks of delays, poor communication, and being unable to obtain my refund, I called the police for assistance. Only after the police were called did the store agree to process my refund. It took the Police to come for them to finally be able to give me my refund. I was then trespassed from the store for being upset about the situation. About 10 minutes after leaving, I received a call from Tom, who identified himself as the owner's son, asking whether I had received my refund. After confirming that I had, I was threatened by comments made during that conversation regarding returning to the store, despite the fact that I had already been trespassed and had no intention of going back. The flooring delay was frustrating, but the lack of communication, rude customer service, difficulty obtaining a refund, and overall handling of the situation were far more disappointing. I wish I would have read some of these reviews before contracting them. We recently purchased a house in Crystal Lake and contracted them to add hardwood flooring in a room. Dean was excellent to work with but the crew and project manager did an awful job matching the stain. (see picture) Their customer service was awful and the accounts receivable person hung up on my wife. They ended up charging us 20% higher than the original quote because they messed up mixing stain. When we tried to dispute and come to a resolution, we couldn't come to an agreement and they said they would send us to their lawyer. read more

It was easy to work with the Mayfair sales rep Ariel and Jason the installer was professional and did a great job. Basing this on the experience my daughter had with them. What a nightmare! Pushy, rude, and unprofessional installer with no respect for ones personal property. Scuffed up freshly painted walls and put a sizable hole in the wall. Then argued with my pregnant daughter and blamed her for the damage. How pathetic!! His name Manny. Beware!! Management is an absolute joke. Kelly came out to look at the damage and told my daughter that kind of damage is typical during a flooring install. Even had the nerve to tell her that she shouldn't of had the walls painted. Really??! Maybe in your world disgracefully poor customer service but not in the real world. We were looking for new carpeting and came upon Mayfair Furniture and Carpets in Crystal Lake. We met with Ariel and was immediately impressed by his knowledge of carpeting. We picked some carpeting samples to take home and keep them until we made a choice. We made our choice and we agreed to have them remove all padding and old carpeting. The cost was very reasonable. When the installers came they were great. Polite, professional, and clean. The new carpet is more than we expected. Would recommend Mayfair again. read more

I visited Mayfair carpet on satisfied friends recommendation and was greeted by Dean. Dean not only went out of his way to explain the different grades of quality in padding in carpeting, but when an attractive sale price came available on day later on better carpeting I liked, came available he informed me and offered me the option in place of my choice, which I took. The price was exactly at my price point which I had previously been unable to find, and for better carpeting. Dean arranged for installers Jason and Jose to install my carpet and they did a phenomenal job. They moved the big furniture and returned it to the exact spot the pieces were previously. Looking for a full service carpet store I would highly recommend looking at Mayfair. Dean helped us from the start and was very helpful but no pushy at all. We left the store after our first stop with a quote but not ready to make the purchase. We came back several months later and Dean again helped us finalize our purchase. We had the installation crew out this week and they took great care in moving our furniture and left our home in great condition. They took the time needed to do the job correctly . Called on Thursday and was passed onto the flooring guy named Dean, and left voice mail letting him know I sent an email and was very interested and if I could get a call back to schedule an appointment and got nothing. Excellent experience. Had about 150 yards of carpet installed. Mayfair did a superb job. The craftsmanship done by Victor in cutting and installing the carpet runner was exceptional. The excellent and responsive service given by Ariel, our sales person, was as good as we have ever received. Mayfair moved all of our furniture and did not require our removing all items from the drawers and disassembling our beds. Far more personalized and responsive service than the big boxes. We purchased Karastan carpet for one room from Mayfair. Our salesman was Dean and he was a pleasure to work with. I am extremely picky and take a very long time to make a decision. He was always prompt in getting back to me whether it be via email or phone. Our quotes were always done quickly and the purchase process was a breeze. Truth be told this isn't a review of Mayfair Carpet and Furnitures products. A truck delivering a rug to my neighbor hit the wires going to my house in old Island Lake. Lake front that was built in the 1930's. Mayfair's truck hit the wires and caused damage to my house. Kelly the owner was adamant about placing the blame on me and my neighbor (her customer) and refused to take full responsibility. Left me with the bill. $175. I have had a huge issue with a Mohawk Karastan, very expensive carpet that is unraveling after 6 months installed, and they refuse to help me or to replace it. I will have to sue Mayfair to get our money back. i will never again buy another Mohawk product of ANY kind, and much less from this retailer. Inconvenience beyond belief! NOT the same staff as in the 80's and 90's! Just had our whole house carpeted! When ordered and paid was told 2 weeks they will be there! We cleaned out and stowed away everything for safety and to make less work for installers! Completely blocking 1 bathroom and basement! 2 weeks comes call Lady says it was 4th of July 4 weekend staff was all off same every year. HELLO you knew that yet said 2 weeks?!? Another week passes call guy says it's on truck. Weeks more delays given date after date Get call on Friday we can be there Saturday NO we have plans so Mon 8/7 Sub contractor Installers show up said 2 day job Nope stayed until 9:45 House is a complete mess! Their vacuum broke let them use our broke it! Left us to spend next day cleaning it ourselves! Horrible seam placement other seams under doors new seams all over and very visible! Zero communication from Mayfair to see how job went! They sure charged my CC fast to get their money! Inconvenience after inconvenience! Do not recommend one bit! STAY AWAY!!! Our decision to purchase flooring and have Mayfair do the installation has been one of the most stressful and regrettable decisions we've made in a long time. We tried to spend money with a local company, and have had nothing but problems since the sale. The installation of our engineered hardwood flooring, and subsequent dealings with the management at Mayfair, has been nothing short of a disaster. The installation was done poorly, with gaps between boards, repeated small boards placed in a row and next to one another, bad staining and finishing of the floor vents, and multiple scratches and gouges around the floor. After waiting several days to speak with a supervisor, he showed up at our house and got into an argument with us, that resulted in us having to force him to leave our house. The flooring Manager Jeff finally came out to the house and had to bring in a different crew to replace several small boards that were installed together in the main entrance to our house. He did this only after trying to convince us that repairing the floor might not be worth the future problems it would create. After finding additional problems with the installation day after day, we again asked for Jeff the Manager to stop by our house. On this visit, he tried to convince us that all the installation issues were with "industry standards". Jeff also refused to inspect the floor or give us any type of reimbursement for the installation or wood that they used to repair the floor. We eventually ended having to hire another contractor to fix some of the installation issues, and many problems we are forced to just live with because we cannot repurchase and pull out the entire flooring. We got 2 sofas, a loveseat and 2 chairs from Mayfair and when we received them, the pillow stitching was undone. We had to send them back 4 times as every time we sent them back the stitching came undone. I finally sewed them up myself & the stitching has stayed! The backing cushion came away from the back and the material ripped on the sofa in our formal living room-which was rarely used- in under a year. The manufacturer said it was normal wear & tear & Mayfair would not back us. We had problems with the furniture from the beginning & Mayfair did not care! They will not stand behind what they sell. Once you've paid and received they wash their hands of you. I would never shop there again. read more

From the time that we walked in the door, a sales person was there to help us. He explained the different types of flooring and let us take home multiple samples. The installers came within two weeks and were able to remove all of our carpet in the house and lay the floor in one day! They did an excellent job and even vacuumed before they left. The other positive thing was that we visited 3 different companies and Mayfair came in with the lowest cost and fastest installation! All of the floors are beautiful! read more

This is to undo a hastily written bad review as Kelly, the owner and I have talked and resolved all issues. First to say that in 4 installations of carpeting Aerial, their salesman helped considerably, the installers did an excellent job and Kelly, the owner worked with me to resolve a small problem with one of their staff. Resolving minor issues reminds me of how difficult smaller businesses have during this time of Covid and economic stress - all the more reason we should strive to shop locally. I am pleased with my carpeting and installation and intend to shop Mayfair for future purchases. read more

Let me start out by saying one of the worst experiences I have endured! It all started with the install. Manny, the job foreman, was extremely rude, pushy, and unprofessional. My walls were just professionally painted days before the install. The crew scuffed several of the walls and put a hole in one wall on the first day. They were also sawing in the middle of our living room, this is not a new construction home either we currently live in it! Our home was covered in saw dust. When I called to notify management they said they would patch and paint the wall. I told them I didn't want them to repair the walls as my painter said he would. Manny showed up the next day and began to pull out supplies to patch and paint the walls. Fist of all I told them not to repair the walls and secondly he had the wrong color paint. I told Manny not to repair the walls. He was very pushy and was insisting he repair the walls. I had to tell him several times not repair the walls be he still insisted. I finally had to have my Dad tell him no. He even told me because of you I won't get paid. I called the store again to complain about Manny's behavior. They sent out Kelly to look at the damage. Kelly said that this damage was nothing and that it is normal for damage to occur to the walls during the install. I couldn't believe what she was telling me. She went on to say that I should not have had the walls painted! They agreed to refund me some of the money I paid. Now they are not returning my calls. I guess I will have to go to the store to try and collect the refund. A side note: The floors look great. They did do an excellent job installing them. The way they managed a rouge job supervisor and damage was absurd and appalling. Buyer beware!! Save yourself a nightmare!! read more

The most ridiculous place I have EVER done business with. About 3-4 months after our laminate floors being installed we noticed gaps in our hallway, it took months for Jeff Mortiz to come take a look.... months later he sends a crew out to "glue" the boards lmao ... well by then the issue had spread and there is a corner piece that's raised due to this happening and NOT getting fixed. The guys look at Denny and the floor and couldn't believe they were sent out to do what they thought was a quick fix and told us it couldn't be glued. So here we are months later and might I add I am the one who has had to chase this guy for an answer, I'm being told the brand Shaw has told him to glue the boards MCxuse me?! I asked to be sent the documents stating this so I can add Shaw into my BBB complaint and have not heard a response since. I've waited patiently alll this time due to their own fault in installation and now it's time for the next step to getting what's rightfully owed to us in the contract. Don't ever shop with Mayfair and expect to even get mediocre customer service or product installation, they SUCK!If I could leave 0 stars I would ! read more

Boy, do I wish I had looked up reviews before ordering carpet from this unprofessional business! It seemed to be a nice showroom and the salesperson was personable and seemed trustworthy, so we decided to give them our business in carpeting one room of our house. The order was placed December 23 with a promise of early to mid January installation date. On February 8 we finally ended up cancelling the order because we still hadn't received the carpet and service to that point had been horrible. After receiving half down, all customer service came to an end. I was never contacted, and I had to call them weekly to check in and get an update, which was always that the install date needed to be pushed back...again. They blame the weather and I absolutely understand that trucks will run behind and things will not be delivered in snow storms...but it does not take 2 months to drive from Georgia to Illinois! Many, many, times we were told our carpet would be arriving the next day, only to hear months later that it still hadn't left the factory. Each time I called they'd say "we haven't forgot about you", yet it seemed they had because they would also say "well, the factory is closed for the day now and won't be open until Monday so I can't check the status for you", which if they hadn't forgotten, they should've checked the status before the factory closed! Twice we moved our furniture out of the room because we had an install scheduled and then when I called them they said it'd be another week. In the end, then offered to do the furniture moving and carpet take up, but at that point I had no faith left in the business and did not want them to install it, because the customer service was so horrible I knew if there were issues with the install I'd be out of luck.
