I use to love Mayflower but not now. The experience I had on August 24, 2025 was awful at the Henderson location. When I walked in there were only two other tables there and around 4 servers so you would think the service would be pretty fast. Oh how wrong I was. Apparently, the server for me and my guests was April and til this day April never showed up. I ordered mozzarella sticks, shrimp, chicken tenders and fries. The mozzarella sticks came out and were not cooked. Then the lady took the back cooked them in grease that taste old and scorch. I had to sent them back. The food was not hot, fresh, and the taste was just bad. Even the cole slaw look like some one chewed it up spit it back out then drove over it with a big truck then served it. I will never waste driving an hour again to eat at this dump. Even the outside of the restaurant need to be clean and grass cut. The tables were sticky even after cleaning them down. When the order came out part of my order was on my guest plate and the server was like just take your part off. Then she never took accountability for anything. First she blamed the cooks because they are Mexicans. When I asked for honey mustard because the other waitress forgot she was like you didn't ask me to bring it. Wifey and I stopped off for lunch yesterday hoping that the inside of the restaurant was looking better than the outside. It was, and we were greeted by an amazing lady named Charley who was also our server. While we have eaten at other Mayflower places, never at this one. She was very friendly and helpful, took our orders and in no time our awesome meals arrived. We enjoyed fresh hot catfish, "baby shrimp, their wonderful Cole slaw and hush puppies. There was so much food we asked for extra plates but Charley was on the ball, already brought them. She also brought the condiments from the fridge, which I appreciated. I am always a bit leary when tarter sits on a table all day. This was nice and cold. There was so much food we could only eat half, and took the rest home for dinner. All for $25 including iced tea. I like to say I'm a pretty FAIR person and HONEST person because I too have businesses, but I do leave reviews because they help me with my travels. Although some places have "not so good reviews" - sometime I still try them out for myself ------ just in case they are the opposite. . Now this is DEFINITELY not your gulf coast type of seafood eating at all, but hubby wanted seafood. Sign.... He got the Mayfield broiled meal and I got just a plain side salad (I'm not a meat eater- plant based the best I can.) So the broiled.... The shrimp looked like little rolled up peanuts and his fried oysters (they said they couldn't broil them) looked like burnt bread rolls. His scallop he said were spongy and the fish he said was "ok", but not that good. He didn't bother touching the onion rings. Ok, so the salad - only iceberg lettuce and chips of carrots and sprinkled cheese. They had no spinach(no problem), there was no cucumbers, no croutons, no nothing for a decent salad. The ranch dressing was ok and I had captain wafers crackers. I would have been happy just eating ranch and plain crackers. ((Sigh)) . While we were sitting waiting for our food there was sooooooooo much noise from the kitchens. I'm talking LOUD yelling, throwing dishes, beating on counters and what seemed to be a major dispute. My hubby jokingly said to our waitress "Uhhh, do I need to go in the back since the owner was playing death like he don't hear that?" Ha! She said- Oh it's one whole family work in the kitchen they always do that. They always having fun. I said "fun"!? Sound like a fight to me. My hubby said - she just trying to throw us off - we know what a dispute sounds like and they are clearly arguing. We could r sit in peace and enjoy our .14 cent value meal. . We talked to a lady, which I pointed out to my hubby, I bet she's the wife and she was. We asked her how long they been there and she said 15 yrs!wow.... Guess people have no other place to get seafood and just rock with it, but nahhh We'll forever pass if we're in the area again. It was just stressful sitting there. Ugh. I asked about the bag with ball the names were they franchise and she said no, they were all "family" owned 1sr one was in Winston Salem opened in 1980. Dayum! It always a pleasure to dine in. It's clean and quiet and the food and customer service is top tier.

Very nice and cozy place for seafood. The menu has all sorts of variety food items to choose from. The server named Ariyah S. was a delight to have as a server. She was very nice and very friendly. She was also fairly new to this location but still provided very attentive service. She was on constant look out for providing quality service. The chicken wings was very good. The food portions are huge you get a lot of food for the price. The fried shrimp, fried white fish was very tasty and very good. Was not crazy about how tough the fried scallops turned out. The hushpuppies are also very good. The loaded baked potatoes was very loaded with butter, sour cream, real bacon and cheese, which was very nice. Was pleasantly surprised by the food . After reading the reviews I will admit I was kind of worried about the quality of food. The only complaint was that it was a mix up on the waitress staff on who we belonged too and waited for around 20 min before waitress took our order. Our waitress was Sharon and she did a great job and apologized many times for the mix up. I had the Baby flounder and jumbo shrimp and the were both cooked very well and had some Chrispness and were very favorable. The baked potato was also good. Wife had Baby flounder, popcorn shrimp and oysters and all were cooked very well. Don't know if we just caught a good day or what but very well possess with food and service will try it again on next visit to Henderson read more

The only reason I give 2 stars is because the server did the best she could do with what she had. Still friendly, personable, and attentive. Her name was Donna. Now the food. Left much to be desired. Oysters were overcooked and the oyster itself was rancid. The scallops were spongy and what ever it was fried in as soon as you took it came right off. Kind of like the battered it frozen and dropped it in the grease. Needless to say the entrees were a bust. The only thing palatable was the appetizer of potatoe skins and the blooming onion. The Hub and I went here on 10/3/20 around 8:30. We were seated at a table that was in the middle of the floor. There weren't any more booths. And where I sat at was the main traffic route for all the employees to get to the register bar kitchen etc. I kept feeling 1 of the waitresses was going to spill something on me for sure. I stayed seated but what made me move was 1 of the hostess sat a family of 8 a ft behind me. Huh social distancing my butt. That's when I got irritated and moved to the other side of the table. For our app we ordered the blooming onion which was ok. Hub ordered water and the combination platter with fried flounder shrimp and scallops. I ordered sweet tea and the bacon cheeseburger with fried okra. Our food came out my burger looked awful and tasted awful. With a plate of mile high fries that I didnt even order. Never got my fried okra by this time I didn't want it. In my mind I thought the burger would be similar to Denny's but nope. I took pics. I tried my very 1st scallop off the Hub's plate. I bit it at 1 end and the scallop shot through the breading from the other end. All rubbery and ewww. By this point I'm ready to go. Although it's a very nice family restaurant, it's seems dirty. The service isn't the worst, but my drink was empty the whole time I ate and it took forever for our drinks to come. I'm not a fan of seafood myself, so I always get something like chicken or spaghetti. Every time I've gotten the chicken it as been dry as I don't know what. If you like deep fried seafood this might be the place for you. While I think the food is okay, it is not for me. The only deep fried seafood I care for is a good fish fry - like a good haddock fish n chips, which is not an option here. Service is friendly but not necessarily prompt. Refills seem to take a little bit of time. One of the reasons I don't care for deep fried seafood is everything seems to be cooked in the same oil. If the oil is not changed frequently, things just taste "off" and that seems to be my experience here as I am not typically able to get to a place like this early in the dinner hours. I could also feel my arteries hardening as soon as I took the first bite. Hush puppies - I'm not a fan, and I don't like to fill up on fried breads, or whatever it is these things are made of. The bottom line is you can get filled up here at a relatively inexpensive price, but it probably ranks right up there with some of the most unhealthy choices I could make for myself if I were to be a regular customer here. read more

This is the worst seafood restaurant. The place was practically empty at 6 PM and they had to nerve to tell us we were buying too many drinks. I suppose they don't like when the only two customers are spending money. I was in a party of two with a destinated driver (who had just one glass of wine) and they had the audacity to imply the non-sober individual should be "cut off" after three WATERED DOWN AND OVERPRICED DRINKS. Their reasoning was that they didn't want to be responsible for any DUI. That's the point of the designation driver, folks! Learn some common sense. Food was tasteless. Service sucked. Waitress supposedly worked at the Henderson Country Club (which she seemed to brag about) but she probably got fired and should be be fired from serving tables permanently. Amy was her name, I think. The Mayflower is great! The menu is extensive. Whether you like fish, steak, pasta, or salads, you can find it there. I ordered the Sunday Special, which offered 4 choices of entrees. For $9.50, I got a heaping platter of fried shrimp, chicken tenders, and hush puppies. The food was hot, fresh, light, tender, and non-greasy. My husband's fried fish platter was equally delicious. The servings were so large that we could make at least 2 more meals out of ours. The service was very good. The decor with its pine boards on the walls and nautical accessories was picturesque. The bathroom really hurt this review. I could not believe the amount of actual health violations in there. I am assuming that this is a recent development as the damaged sinks did not show rust. But, all but one sink was missing the hot water side knob. Ok bad but no gaspingly bad. Next I noticed a 1" hole in the door of the toilet stall, it was stuffed with toilet paper. Again, bad but, not extremely so. Next, I went to dry my hands , electric air dryer did not work, ok sucks but, I can live with it. The bad sides are adding up fast all of a sudden, and I have not even started eating yet. So, I turn to the ole reliable paper towel dispenser. Humm, guess what, someone was to lazy to load it and left the roll on the sink top where it was doing a fine job of keeping the wet hand splashes dry. The bottom and top of this roll is wet , bottom having soaked up the water on the sink. ( sink was relatively dry around that area) So now after being let down I'm wondering what the sanitation grade is. So back to my seat , made of wood, looks really nice and matches the Cyprus wood walls. Beautiful decor here. The waitress brings my sweet tea, I use waitress a bit loosely here as this young girl is a bit clueless. The tea is awful, it has enough sugar in it to sweeten two glasses of tea. In other words the waitress brings my syrup wit light tea. I did something I have never done, I called her back for a glass of unsweetened tea to mix with the syrup in my glass. Her response was that " this is the south, we like our tea sweet" correct me if I'm wrong but is not chapel hill nc part of the south? And I know the farm I grew up in Cameron NC was part of the south. I have lived in Florida and Georgia as well and have never had a tea so sweet. Now for the good part the food came , wow piled high comes to mind. This was well worth the problems this place has. Catfish was a perfectly filet, no bones at all. I am impressed, perfectly cooked popcorn shrimp and everything was piping hot. The owner is super nice and accommodating. The portion sizes are HUGE. My grown father can eat a kid's meal sized shrimp. The fries are a little plain, so maybe choose a different side. They have a onion appetizer that tastes just like Outback's bloomin' onion. I have only eaten in once and I don't remember the service being bad or slow as some have stated. But I normally get it to go so I wouldn't really know. This is a great option for seafood. Everything was so delicious , but the best thing was a small bowl of chicken and rice soup that I was told compliments of the house and homemade by the owner. It was absolutely delicious ! The worst service EVER! We had 2 ask for straws. Had to ask for butter for the baked potato. Had to ask for a refill on the pop. Waited 15 mins for it and had to ask again for it. Had to ask twice for a water refill. Asked for a take out box. One minute later Felicia came back to the table and proceeded to take up our plates. We reminded her we needed a take out box. As she walked away from our table she said, you can leave the attitude. Yes, by this time we were ready to go. We went to pay our bill and she left us at the counter and went to the kitchen and we waited over 5 mins for the other server to come out and she took our money.
