As many others have said, they are reliable but not fantastic. they do have really great servers. If they would serve a better salad they could get another star from me. They do a good job cooking things how you ask, for instance well grilled scallops or shrimp. The salad is a bunch of mediocre lettuce 1/2 cucumber slice and even in summer, non ripe tomatoes. My wife and I went back to this Mayflower today, August 09, 2020. The last time we went, the scallops had changed from the usual round meat, to something that looked more like calamari. There were three three other people at the table that asked the same question. I called today before we made the 40 mile trip to ask about the "appearance" of the scallops. I don't usually mention other people's reviews when doing my own reviews but when you write a review based on what the wait staff looks like or the fact that the two plates you ordered were obviously switched (probably by accident) or even basing the portions of this restaurant to another restaurant that you frequent, then in my opinion, your review isn't worth considering and honestly should be removed. As for me, I love seafood and I have eaten at many seafood restaurants in different states and though I can only say I eat at this particular restaurant about three times a year it's by far one of my favorites. The portions are fair for the price and for most people, it is enough or even more than enough. I see about 60-70% of patrons taking a to go box of left overs out every time I go here. I have never in 20+ years of eating at this restaurant had a complaint about any of the wait staff. I do have a concern for the size of potatoes or sweet potatoes. They have definitely shrunk over the years and now aren't worthy of putting on a plate. The grilled chicken breast has also gotten smaller but I see that happening at most restaurants not just here. Everything I have ever received here has been delicious and everyone has always been nice and courteous. Madison isn't known for their restaurants and don't have a whole lot to chose from but Mayflower should be at the top of the list if your ever in the area and hungry. My fiance and I attempted to visit Mayflower, in Madison, at 7:45 PM on New Years Eve. The doors were locked, and a young woman came out and turned us away, telling us they were closed. There were several tables occupied at the time. As we sat in the car looking for other places to eat nearby (since we came from out of state), another couple walked in, and was seated immediately. I am disgusted by the behavior of this employee. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

My husband and I ate there Tuesday 8/29/23, the food wasn't good, i ordered boiled catfish and green beans, I didn't eat the green beans because they had tomatoes cooked in them, I have never ever seen tomatoes cooked in green bean , I ask the waitress if they had any without tomatoes she said no. My husband ordered catfish, shrimp and deviled crab, he said it was the worst deviled crab he ever eat and shrimp was too soggy. When I went to pay the cashier ask was everything ok, I told her No, I didn't eat the green beans, because they had tomatoes in them and I had never seen them that way, she said they were Mexican green beans, I told her if they wanted to serve them they should also have regular green beans, because all of us are not Mexican. also told her my husband wasn't pleased with his food either and she didn't say anything , We wasted $36.00. We will never eat at a Mayflower again, we will Go to Captain Tom's in Martinsville, Va. Many years ago I would have given Mayflower Seafood 5 stars they had excellent food and very beautiful hostesses Now the food is overcooked at times and the quantity is cutback with higher prices The wait staff now with one man is decent What happened to keeping a customers glass filled now you have to flag them down at times Mayflower Seafood is lucky to be the only seafood restaurant in Madison because if they had competition they would have to do better at everything or go out of business! read more

Went there 2 days ago for dinner. Ordered popcorn shrimp, soft or lightly fried and it was delicious. Flounder was just a bit overlooked (my reason for 4 stars rather than 5). Portions were huge. So, the food is pretty good. Nothing special, but good. The waitstaff is nice. The place is going down hill though. If you are open at lunch, you need to count on getting people in and out in about 30 minutes. So here are some things I have observed the last few times I've been there. Average time from getting seated to leaving is 45 minutes. This most recent time, I was seated at 11:50 and left with a to-go box at 12:40, having not eaten my food yet. I was seated, and I had 2 other joining me. The waitress came over and asked what I'd like to drink, and I ordered for myself and the 2 others. The 2 others joined me and were seated for 10 minutes before we even got our drinks. When the waitress brought the drinks, we went ahead and ordered our food. I ordered the Popcorn Chicken special (Which is very good) and a side of Ranch for the chicken. I also like to dip my fries in the ranch, but I digress. The waitress proceeded to take the orders of 4 other tables seated more recently than us. She should have put our order right away in and then taken the other orders to cut down on each table's wait time, and to not over load the kitchen with 4 orders at a time. That's 4 orders from her section alone. No wonder the kitchen is slow. So...it's a good 25 or 30 minutes before we get our food. A Popcorn Chicken special, a salad, and a flounder plate. Not terribly complicated. Anyway, she sets the food down and asks if we need anything else. I politely reminded her of the Ranch. She nodded and said she would bring it right out. I waited to eat until I had my ranch. I'm a southern girl, fried food gets dipped in ranch. I can't eat until I have some ranch dressing! Anyway.....I wait and wait and finally I wave down the waitress and remind her again of the ranch. By the time I got the ranch, I'd been there for 45 minutes. My lunch break is only 30 minutes. No one is really very strict about it, but I don't want to abuse their leniency. 45 minutes to an hour is too long to take for lunch. So, upon getting the ranch, I simply asked for a to-go box for my food so I could take it back to the office and eat it there. The 2 people I was with had already finished eating and I didn't have the time or inclination to sit there and eat my food alone. It's a shame, really because I like the food, and they have great specials. I just can't spend that long to eat lunch. I say this to the Mayflower III in Madison NC....speed it up at lunch, and I'll give you some stars back. read more
