Mr. Lus is a solid choice for Chinese take out near me and has been around for years. The food is…read morealways fresh and I enjoy those Chinese American dishes we all love. I usually get the combo plates that include an entree, egg roll and rice. Today, I have been battling a cold and cough and some wonton soup sounded perfect to sooth my throat. The rest of my family ordered some different dishes for themselves. We ordered online and I sent my son to pick everything up which only took 20 min. The wonton soup had so many wontons in it I split it into three servings. They also give you the fried wonton strips to sprinkle on top if you like that. The portions on all the other food were also big. Mr. Lus doesn't skimp there. We all had plenty for lunch the next day. The service is always fast, reliable and friendly. There is no dining room. It's all take out at Mr Lus so be prepared for that. Otherwise it's your basic order at the counter place.

All the items chosen were good, with the Fried Shrimp and the Mongolian Beef proving to be very, very good! Mongolian Beef is a favorite Chinese American dish. Despite the name, it was developed in Taiwan before coming to the USA, an been very popular, especially as a take out item. The version served here is among the best, nearly as good as the best in the area, that served at Jade Garden in Advance. The dish here adheres to the straight forward simplicity of processing quality beef, onions, and peppers well seasoned with a soy based sauce. The fried shrimp are small, fresh tasting, and well breaded and well seasoned. This isn't an item often thought of when considering Chinese American appetizer, but I would suggest you consider it , especially when a bit of hot mustard or Chinese hot sauce is added. I have tried at least a dozen items here, and there have only been a couple I would not reorder. The sipped with which your order is prepared is a definite plus, usually you are out in under 15 minutes.

Our party of four had the two apps, 3 beers, and four entrees. Prices were pretty standard for Winston Salem. My fish was $18. We were given 3 small paper napkins for our party and had to request at least one per person. We got there between 7 and 7:30 and had finished eating by 8:30. They close at 9. At 8:35 they started mopping the dining room including the area next to our table. I worked in restaurants as a server, bartender and manager for about twenty years. This isn't ok. Our bill was well over $100 but it wouldn't have been ok no matter what the bill was. We realized that we were just an inconvenience to them. I tipped well because I always do. But I will not be back. Hospitality is important for repeat business.

The menu has a great mix of familiar Chinese dishes alongside more traditional regional specialties, and it's clear the restaurant isn't afraid to lean into bold, spicy flavors. The ambiance is cozy. It looks like they turned an old Biscuitville into the dining space, which is quite charming. We ordered quite a few dishes, including the steamed soup dumplings, ox tongue and tripe with chili sauce, Singapore mei fun, intestine with chili pepper, mapo tofu, kung pao chicken, and the intestine noodle. Everything was well prepared, but the standout was how the restaurant balances more "American Chinese" flavors while also staying true to some more traditional chinese flavors as well. The chili-forward dishes had plenty of heat without overpowering the other flavors, and each dish had its own distinct character. The ox tongue and tripe appetizer and the intestine dishes were great options if you're looking to try something a little more traditional. The portions were generous, making it a great place to order several dishes and share with the table. If you're used to American Chinese food, this menu offers a chance to branch out and try something different while still having plenty of familiar options available. If there is a dish I would not order again, it would probably be the soup dumplings. They tasted just like the store bought frozen variety that you can steam at home. Nonetheless, New Sichuan Restaurant is well worth a visit if you're desiring flavors that somewhat lean towards more traditional Sichuan cooking.
