Just burn/tear-it down. Had take out from a server to low- income families. A rating of 90 on Friday June 26,2026 around 8:30 pm. $44.00 of pure"garbage ". The only reason was of the location was close. Oysters,can green beans,hush puppies,Flounder plate was hot and burnt. Smelled more of 4 days old grease. Friday at 11:35 I had diarrhea and Saturday my girlfriend had severe stomach aches only from that restaurant. I understand it's been there for decades but now it's time to dump it. It's a large vibrant space with nautical decorations all around. There is always lively music playing. The Mayflower seafood restaurant has always been a staple of Winston-Salem. The fish is always fresh and delicious. I was happy when they added the grilled mixed vegetables as most seafood places only have french fries and baked potatoes as sides. The hush puppies or corn Dodgers as some call them are always very flavorful crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are never greasy which I love. Mayflower is a regional chain of seafood restaurants, featuring Calabash style of seafood like you find in abundance along the North and South Carolina Coast. Being about three and a half hours inland, Mayflower does a great job of satisfying the pallet of a beach bum who grew up in Wilmington, NC. We have a little construction project going on at home, and at the moment, the kitchen is a wreck. As a result, we are eating out a lot. This is one of those nights. We went to Mayflower (Peters Creek Parkway) around six in the evening. Parking lot was full, but we were seated right away. Our server showed up quickly and took our orders. CAUTION - Mayflower portions are large. The offer a "regular" and "large" sizes of most items. The regular is huge. The do offer a smaller, Senior size of several items along with a kids menu. Carolyn ordered the Senior Popcorn Shrimp ($10.99). The meal comes with cole slaw, hushpuppies, and one side (Baked Potato, Fries, Green Beans, More Slaw, Mac & Cheese). She had the baked potato. I ordered the regular size Popcorn Shrimp ($14.99). Also served with hushpuppies, slaw, and one side. I ordered fries. For the uninformed, Popcorn Shrimp are small (we used to call them "sound shrimp" when I was growing up at Wrightsville Beach). Calabash Style means they are lightly battered and deep fried (quickly). The batter is light with a touch of sweetness. Done right (as these were), they are cooked in fresh, very hot oil. Not greasy. Shrimp are sweet and tender. Dishes are served with a tangy cocktail sauce, and tartar sauce, both of which are house made and very good. Service was quick, and attentive. We had soft drinks - a bit pricey at $3.99 each - but with free, unlimited refills. All in all, this is one of our favorite places for a quick, tasty dinner. And prices are reasonable. Not may places where two can eat a nice meal for $33 including tip. If you have never tried seafood this way, give it a shot. On a Thursday afternoon while at work, I got hungry and wanted seafood. I called and placed an order for my co worker and I at 12:06pm. I was told it would be ready at 10-15 minutes. I got the Thursday special for popcorn shrimp and tenders. I got extra hush puppies instead of the slaw it comes with. My co worker got the regular trout plate. I got a sweet tea to drink and my co worker got a sprite. I arrived at 12:20pm and it was ready. There is a separate entrance for take-out orders on the side of the building. After checking food, per their request, it didn't look like there was extra hushpuppies as requested. I let the cashier know and she said it was probably buried. She went to check and was told that extra was added. When I got back to the office, I found this to be accurate. It was buried. My food was delicious with the BBQ sauce and butter lol. The food was somewhat plain and lacking seasoning. I've been to this location a few times before and hadn't encountered any issues. Mayflower is what is always has been. A place that you can decent and PLENTY seafood (predominately fried ) a few "Greek" entrees, and friendly service at a good price. Everyone there was friendly. The place was clean. The waitress was super friendly. We ordered the shrimp po boy and the Captain Smiths platter. We could not finish them. It was more than enough food on that plate! Neither put their phones down the whole time. The young man took my order for the Thursday special. As I was waiting I noticed numerous rules on a chalkboard opposite me. There are numerous things to do at a restaurant business; plenty of work to do, instead the young lady looked as if her job was to update her FB status or posting to her Instagram. We had not eaten here for quite a while, backed before it burnt really, but we stopped by for lunch recently since we were in the area. The layout is different, not as open as before, but still nice. The food is solid, if not exceptional in the vein of Walkertown, Captain Tom's, Harbor Inn, Fisherman's Galley in Eden, or its sister restaurant Mayflower Seafood in Reidsville. The service was very nice, time out of the kitchen very reasonable. Given the overall quality of the food served us, the pricing here is definitely on the high side, especially considering the small portions on my combo of Fried Oysters and Trout Fillets, for around $13. The Popcorn Shrimp Plate as better, but a +$8 still high for a lunch plate. The fries are simply not good. Glad we stopped by, but don't see a return trip. read more

Today was my daughters birthday and she requested Mayflower for dinner. We arrived about 6 pm and the place did nkt sern overly busy. We were a party of seven but did not recieve our orders until almost 745 pm. The waitress was very nice snd attentive to our table and explained that the cooks were behind from a large party of 47 people. Our appiticer was two spicy blooming onions. When the appitizers arrived they were not spicy and we were given ranch instead of the sauce and told it was due to the large party that caused them to run out. The breaded fried onions were over cooked all crunch all the way through. Not like any blooming onion ive ever had. Finally our meal arrived. Everything but the fried tasted so salty i could hardly eat. I left most of my plate due to the heavy salt and so did many from my party. While being served my food the waitress dumped a full glass of sweet tea in my lap that she had just placed on the table. After helping clean up the mess my clothing and shoes were soaked from the tea. The waitress was very appoligenic. When I went to pay is when i became convinced that i would never return to this resturant . i explained the situation in its entirity to the cashier who offered to take $2 dollars off my bill. As she was ringing me up i informed her that she charged me for two tripple combination plates that we did not have after all we were a party of seven. She refused to remove the extra plates or call a manager when asked to do so. I remained calm paid the bill and left. Service at this place as far as im concerned has plummeted . the wait staff is the best part of the dining experience. Yes she dumped tea in my lap but that can happen and has happened to me at high end resturants. To be clear im NOT upset over that with this dining experience. All the issues i have that i am actually upset over was not the wait staffs fault. It was in the kitched with cooks and cashiers ruff tone and insultive solution while over charging me to begin with. I think reviews outside of Yelp are probably more fair. My family and I visited this place during our stay in Winston Salem. We all ordered the create your own combo with 3 items. We ordered catfish, shrimp and deviled crab. The entrees came with hush puppies and coleslaw. Honestly the only thing none of us liked was the deviled crab. It's loaded with filler and was pretty disappointing. The catfish and fried shrimp were delicious though. Seasoned really well and served hot. The hush puppies were shaped like onion rings and were of the sweeter variety. They were tasty too. The atmosphere is really drab and the building needs to be renovated honestly. It's also weird how you pay when done. Instead of paying the server you have to pay a really slow cashier at the front of the restaurant. I really enjoyed the food though. I think this place is a you pay for what you get type place. The prices for seafood here are cheap and that is usually an oxymoron. The interior is huge and very much a place that was designed to fit a lot of people in for dinner, not designed for ambiance. Our waitress was really friendly and when one of our orders arrived messed up she went back and fixed it no problem. It wasn't fixed on the check so we had to deal with that while we were paying. I got their fish and chip special that evening and I thought it was good but not something I am in a rush to go eat again. I prefer a thick crispy crust on my fish and chips this was more of a breading. My fiance got the Fisherman's Platter or something along those lines, he immediately regretted it after ordering. Just a pile of fried things which shouldn't have been a shocker based on the menu description, he wasn't a big fan. He was also sick for a solid 24 hours after eating it, not sure if it was just too much for him or something with what he ate. I think it may have been the latter. I also found it interesting that there was a police officer stationed at the entrance/exit the whole time. His police car was parked out front. Not sure if they have had problems in the past, but it makes one think why they would need a police officer standing there all night. read more

I ordered here for the first time in several years. My last experience with this restaurant was mediocre at best, prior to the fire. I placed a call in order for a grilled chicken sandwich and an order of fried popcorn shrimp. I was told that it would be ready in 10-15 minutes. Pretty standard I feel. I arrived 20 minutes later and was told that they were waiting on the grilled chicken sandwich and it would be just a minute. Fast forward 20 minutes after I arrived and paid, and I was finally given my order. As my order took forever, I was given a half gallon of sweet tea. - this wasn't a demand or anything. At that point, I just wanted to get home and eat. I arrived home and open the box with the grilled sandwich order. All that was in the box were a few onion rings and a piece of grilled chicken. No buns, lettuce, tomato, onion, etc., just a piece of chicken. I didn't know that when I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich that I'd have to provide my own toppings and condiments. For a long time this has been a staple in the W-S area. For some, they believe the old building that was destroyed in a fire, was the better version of the Mayflower. I can't necessarily disagree, but I am fond of the current version as well. The Popcorn Shrimp here is the go-to in my opinion, but add their fried Chicken Tenders to the combination and you've got a nice meal! The shrimp seems to be consistent, and the tenders are truly the tenderloin of the chicken. This is truly a deep fried seafood kinda place, so don't mistake it for a place to get unique fresh seafood dishes! read more

For a business that has 9 locations locally, I was shocked at the poor protocol to protect their employees & customers. They were calling in only 2 customers at a time to the small take out area; which is great. But the cashier- the person you cannot avoid- was NOT wearing a mask. I asked "where is your mask?" and he replied "I don't wear one". From the employees I could see, about half wore masks. And, some of them had them pulled down. Only 2 of 10 people waiting had masks. A setup for disaster, 2 people at a time. Oh yeah, why not call in the 2 people whose orders are actually ready? Either management did not put any serious thought into this or they are not paying attention to their employees. Restaurants have asked for support. How about supporting your customers by keeping them healthy? I will not be back. If you are not looking after me during a crisis, then I doubt you are ever that concerned about my health. read more

Will never patron Mayflower on Peters Creek again! Ordered 2-2 item combos as a take-out. My scallops were tough, rubbery, dry and overcooked. My husbands oysters were overcooked also and tasted burnt. We received no slaw and no condiments for a $32.00 meal. I called the manager Karen and she said to bring the boxes (not food) back and get 2 meals. I told her the boxes were out in the trash with some of the food and she said that's fine just bring the boxes. My husband goes to Mayflower today and took the boxes per Karen's instructions and the greek woman at the cash register said since he didn't bring all the food back we could not have our meals. Karen was not there. So since we did not bring food back from 3 days ago that has been in the bottom of an outside trash in 92 degree heat you are not going to honor what your manager said? Also, can't return food that we did not even get (slaw, butter, sour cream. etc.) Keep on treating your customers like they don't matter. WE are the one's that keep you in business. read more
