I needed to find a new stylist, saw Groupon deal, came to Yelp to read reviews and booked appointment with Anna. I am very happy with the services. Anna provided a great shampoo with a little head massage and gave me the cut I asked for after just watching a reel I saved one time only. She is very knowledgeable and experienced. She said if you are interested in shampoo and cut just call them, no need to buy actual Groupon and ask for her special $45 cut/shampoo. May's is located on Keaumoku St across from Walmart and above YogurStory restaurant.

Tao did a fantastic job with my hair! I have long, thick hair but he was so patient and caring with it throughout the whole process. I didn't really have much of a plan on how to cut my hair other than wanting to have long layers and cut out most of the dead length, but he had a vision and we went for it. I love my hair and will definitely be back soon.

I made an impromptu decision to cut my hair short when I woke up and called for an appointment and they got me in an hour later! I showed the stylist (not sure of her name) a reel once and she said okay and gave me what I expected. She took such great care of my hair and was precise with each of her cuts. My hair is thick and heavy but she made it feeling so light but didn't take away from the volume. I had also gotten my hair washed and styled all for $50! I have paid more at other professional salons but haven't gotten the same results as I did with her. I highly recommend!!

Thank you Queenie!

I absolutely love seeing Queenie here. She's so professional and incredibly caring in everything she does. I was a salon jumper until I stumbled upon May's Salon. Ever since, I find Queenie as my trusted hair advisor. I wouldn't trust anyone else but her. Family, friends, and colleagues always ask where I get my hair cut and I tell them queenie of course! I've also had treatments for my hair and she will tell you what is best recommended for your hair health. Likewise, she will tell you what color and cut suits your face shape/skin completion. She always wants you walking out as the best version of you possible. I find visiting hair salons a lot more exciting because she makes me feel like home and every visit -- I always walk out happier than I did walking in. Love you Aunty Queenie!!

I've had a handful of haircuts here and feel comfortable and confident in finally posting a review. Quick background on me--current philosophy on hair is "it's only hair, it'll grow back". Back when I used to care I used to experiment on cuts and styles and colors. But ever since I've had chemo and lost all of it, hair is just hair to me. And also coz it's not the same as it once was. Anyway so I don't have a regular stylist, I don't see the point in dropping $$$ for a haircut, and I try to space my cuts as far as possible. The first stylist at May's Salon I saw was Tao. I asked for him because so many reviewers mentioned him. I wasn't super impressed at first though. I mean the price was alright, the cut was alright, the service was alright, and Tao was professional and nice. But it wasn't earth-shattering. The next time I didn't specify anyone and got Anna. She's friendly and sweet and tried to make small talk. I'm not one for small talk at the hairdresser and prefer to read magazines (same with pedicures). One thing I didn't like was how they kept trying to upsell me to color my hair. Every visit. I might have visited one or two other salons, idk, I can't remember. Not just because of the upsell but I wanted a change. So then COVID hit and we were quarantined. I wanted to shave it all. Best time to do in quarantine and remote working, right? But I didn't have the guts to do it myself, in case i botched it up. Ironic, I know. Plus my kid was adamant I don't cut it too short and look like man. So I came back to May's Salon and made my appointment with Tao. I came prepared and showed him pics of P!nk's pompadour. I told him I wanted my sides razed super short but he suggested maybe not too short. We debated a bit before compromising and I told him to just do it and we'll decide at each stage. I think he was more nervous than me haha! So in the end even though it wasn't as short as I wanted, we worked with what we had and I was satisfied. He showed me how to style it but honestly I'm lazy and gave up after day one. That was back in July. Then the second quarantine happened. I had my husband trim my sides. He was too nervous to do it again and my hair grew out so I came to Tao. This time he didn't hesitate! No pictures, but it's a simple cleanup. In and out in 30 minutes! I won't go so far as to say I've found my stylist, but so far so good. Convenient location, ample parking, reasonable price, easy to make appointments. Located in the same building as the now-closed Likelike Drive Inn, Tony Moly, Teapresso, Honolulu Sushi, and So Gong Dong.

What is the difference between: - a haircut - a blood donation - losing a Yelp Hawaii Community Manager (CM) Answer: Emi is challenging to replace I lost a pint of blood and a CM on June 5, 2020. I figured that I may as well donate 12 inches of hair to Locks of Love since I was in a giving mode already. May as well be productive, right? Note: Many donatrd ponytails are combined to make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer. I've donated three times before, so, I was familiar with the process. Some Background: before my Yelp friend, Jessica, left for Las Vegas to start a new chapter in her life, we were supposed to go on a Pirate Ship Cruise. COVID-19 happened and the cruise was canceled. We got a credit for our Groupon and I chose to use it on a haircut/shampoo/style/blow dry at May's Salon. May's is located on the upper level of the building where Like Like Drive Inn was. It has a free shared parking lot with N Cat and Teapresso on Keeaumoku Street. Winnie was my efficient, confident, and friendly stylist. Everytime I whined about losing my hair, she reassured me that it will grow back. She helped me photograph our journey together and confirmed that fine, straight hair is best cut blunt, not in layers. Alright! The shampoo and blow dry were as quick as the haircut! I was out of there in less than an hour! Winnie said that it probably took three years to grow 12 inches. I told her that I'll see her in 3 years, then. She smiled and said, "Maybe sooner!"

Groupon is really the same price as their regular price???
Deb K.

Why I thought May was very sweet and I'll have to see how the cut comes out, there were two failures I experienced. First, I did have to point out that one side was longer after she finished. She cut off a lot more than a "little bit". Second, the Groupon says the regular price was $60, but when I asked May how much it usually costs, she replied $35 for haircut, shampoo and blow dry. That's just about the same price as the Groupon was. But like I said, if the haircut looks good after a few days, I'd bump this up to four stars.... Maybe five because she really is sweet and seems to really know what she is doing.

Loved Anna! Came here at 0945 for a 1000am appt. and they were still closed.. I thought they forgot about my appointment but Anna opened the salon around 0955. It was just me and her and we had a lot of nice conversations. She took time to cut and style my hair and even ironed it for a good 20 minutes.. lol.. I loved my haircut. I used groupon for $18 but then she gave me a card for $32 instead of $35 everytime I come back for haircut next time, which I will.. They accept cards, salon is nice and located on the 2nd floor of the commercial building. Restrooms with key, elevator, parking.. :) A lot of good resto around the area as well!

It was 1st time visiting this salon and I was very pleased with the cut and overall service. My stylist, Anna, was very knowledgeable and personable! The salon is located on the 2nd floor of the building of the former Likelike Restaurant so parking is ample. There are Covid-19 protocols in place and I felt comfortable. The salon overall was very neat and clean! A hair wash is also included with the cut, which I appreciate. I will definitely return for future services.

I've been a returning customer for years, even if my hectic schedule as a civil servant kept me away longer than I ever wanted. There's a reason she stays booked: she's genuinely the best. Her knowledge, attention to detail, and the level of care she puts into every customized treatment are unmatched. She doesn't just provide a service -- she creates an experience where you feel understood, comfortable, and taken care of. Recently, I returned out of necessity because my teenage son had his first waxing experience elsewhere, and it was a terrible one - on his birthday too:(( I needed someone I could trust completely, and I knew there was no one better than Madoka...She went out of her way to make sure he felt safe, respected, and reassured. Her calm presence and expertise turned what could have become a long-lasting fear into a positive, empowering experience for him. Madoka truly sets the standard for professionalism and genuine care. I am beyond grateful for her, and I won't be going anywhere else again. If you want someone who is knowledgeable, kind, and consistently exceptional, this is the place. When I found out she wasn't there anymore, I legit did an internal sob T___T but someone on Yelp informed me that she opened up her own waxing business so I hurriedly went on her website and booked an appointment with her! The appointment process is really simple. She can even accommodate to your schedule if there's nothing open to your liking (amazing customer service right there) or she can inform you of a cancellation if you let her know. The place is relatively easy to find: just input the address on Google Maps and once you approach the building, you turn right into the lot and VOILA, you have arrived. Park only in the stalls reserved for Salon 2A I believe? The other stalls are for the dentist, HOWEVER you are allowed to park in their stalls after business hours (Contact Madoka to confirm their hours) Her business is up the stairs, to the left. It's very spacious and well lit. You get offered Peach Tea while you get checked in and then it's time for Madoka to work her magic. She takes her time to make sure your brows are literally on fleek and checks with you to make sure you love them. 10/10 Recommend for all your sugaring needs!…read more It was my first time getting sugared and my first Brazilian done by someone else so I was quite nervous but Sharnay did such a good job making the process as quick and comfortable as possible. I wanted to get sugared for a while now and finally decided to contact Sharnay after looking at other Yelp reviews. She was able to fit me in. She is located in the building across from Kaiser Hospital. Her space is upstairs which was easy to find with her very clear directions I received after booking and the signs presented near the door. There is also plenty of street parking across the street near McKinley HS. When I first walked in, I noticed the room was decorated with plants and crystals-- which is just my style. The room for the sugaring was clean and wipes were provided. The process was a lot shorter than I was expecting, around 15-20 minutes for everything GONE! It was also a lot less painful than regular waxing at home. Will be going back for my 7 week maintenance!

It's been a year!…read more About a year ago, I decided to trim my own hair. Let's just say... it didn't go well The haircut was so bad that I lived with it for an entire year before finally deciding it was time to let a professional fix it. The funniest part? I even took that haircut with me on a trip to New York City, ...and believe it or not, no one in New York City even sneered! I honestly think providence brought me here. On my way to Ala Moana Center, I happened to notice Lily's Hair Salon and thought, "That's interesting. I've never noticed that place before." Just before that, I had called Macy's to make an appointment at their salon. The phone rang, then a recording said the number was no longer in service. When I went looking for the salon anyway, I discovered it had actually closed during the pandemic. So believe it or not, I made the round trip back to Lily's. When I first walked in, the woman at the front desk told me their hairstylist was busy and suggested I try the salon upstairs. I did, only to find they were closed. I came back downstairs and told her I didn't mind waiting about 20 minutes. While I waited, I happily took advantage of their massage chair. After physical therapy, that massage chair felt wonderful. Before long, Min Hee was ready for me. She started with an assessment, washed my hair, took another careful look at it, cut it, and finished with a blow dry so she could see exactly how it naturally lays. What I appreciated most was that she listened. The first thing she did after I sat down was trim the ends to the length I wanted. She never once tried to convince me to cut my hair much shorter than I was comfortable with. I showed her how I like to clip my hair up while still having enough length for a little dangling ponytail, and we agreed to preserve that length while cleaning up the overall shape. Now I have bangs again, my haircut is even and balanced, and my hair finally looks polished instead of like the DIY haircut I'd been trying to live with for the past year My haircut was $65. There is a $2 fee if you pay by credit card. Parking was easy, with six free stalls right in front of the salon. The salon itself isn't fancy, but it's clean, comfortable, and more than good enough. There's a restroom inside on the left, and they also offer complimentary water and snacks. Min Hee is the salon's full-time hairstylist and also provides nail services. There are two additional hairstylists who work part-time on their own schedules. Everyone I interacted with was pleasant, courteous, and genuinely helpful. They all seem to know who their customers are, so you won't get asked, "Why are you wanting to use our restroom?" That may sound like a small thing, but it contributes to the welcoming atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Thank you, Min Hee, for giving me such a great haircut and a wonderful experience. I'm very happy I found your salon.

For me, I felt as though the work was rushed but still came out great! I had requested a gel x set but had to inform my nail tech because she was unaware and was about to give me acrylic. Not sure if she wasn't informed or if she automatically assumed. I did have a picture to go off of for design and the tech was very good at mimicking the design. Only issue I had was that she didn't clarify color scheme with me prior to starting and I had to stop her or ask for a different colors on multiple occasions. For instance what she thought was white I wanted a pastel pink since the whole look focused on a pastel palette. When I did correct the coloring I also felt as though I was in the wrong because she was going based on the "picture" but never asked or clarified with me what I had wanted. Overall I would still go back to get my nails done here just make sure you clarify the things you want prior to the nails being done with your tech especially if they don't ask you first
