I love May, she's the owner. Today was my first time going to her salon. I called her to set up a last minute appointment, she was very sweet and accommodating. She and her crew did an amazing job! I got cut, hair color, eye brows threading and flat ironed. May was amazing and she did a great job on cutting my hair. She worked extra hard flat ironing my thick and stubborn ass hair. Lol. Had a lovely experience getting a haircut and blowdry today at May's Salon. I found them using the Groupon offer they are running, and boy am I glad to have discovered them! I was able to make a same-day appointment, and from the moment I arrived until walking out the door I was met with warm, kind service from all staff. Tao did my wash, cut and dry and was a complete joy to spend the hour with. He was knowledgable, caring and attentive to detail. The salon is well appointed and very clean, and in a very convenient location (upstairs of Like Like Plaza). I was on foot, so parking was not an issue, but there is a small parking lot downstairs. Discovered this awesome place through a friend. She went to get her haircut in the morning, sent us a photo, and her cut just looked so nice I immediately asked for the location. We called the number and was immediately scheduled for the afternoon. This is about as spontaneous as it gets because I did not plan on getting a hair cut at all. Although most of these reviews mention Tao, I'd like to give special recognition to ANNA. She is the other hair dresser that also works here equally if not more often. She is from China and speaks some English. I was able to communicate with her through Chinese. This may be the reason why majority of her clients are Chinese, aka less likely to write a Yelp review. Don't let this stop you though! If you show her a photo of what you want, she can definitely deliver!! I've been looking for a hair dresser to trust in this island, and will definitely return!! I went to Mary's Salon after being in desperate need for a haircut. I had Tao Wang for a stylist. I really appreciated how much time he spent talking to me and making sure that I was happy with what my cut. He did cut a little bit more off than what I intended, but my hair looks super healthy. You also cant beat the prices here. I have tried three different salons since moving to Hawaii and this is by far the best in terms of quality and price. My hair looks better than it did when I spent a lot more money for a fancier place. I will definitely go back. read more

Since moving back to Hawaii over two years ago, I've been searching for a stylist that I could stick to but I was having a lot of trouble. I have a long pixie style but all of the stylist I tried seeing didn't seem too experienced with cutting short hair and I never walked out entirely satisfied. Naturally, going to another new salon to get my hair cut had me nervous, but it was inevitable since my hair was getting long so I selected May's Salon based off of the Living Social coupon and their reviews. When I arrived, I met Anna and showed her a few reference pictures for what I wanted. As we looked at the photos, she talked to me about what they had, what I wanted, and what my hair currently was like. It was clear to me immediately that she was very knowledgeable with hair styling which made me very comfortable. The process was very relaxing and she paid close attention to the smaller details, which was greatly appreciated. When I walked out, I was in love with my new haircut, seeing that it was exactly what I wanted. As much as I would love to become a regular, I am moving away in less than two weeks -- I wish I had found May's Salon sooner! This is a salon I would definitely recommend. read more

Today was my first time going to May's Salon. I had high hopes because majority of her reviews were positive. I called a week ahead and made an appointment for 3:00pm, letting them know ahead of time I was using a Groupon (for a shampoo, haircut, style). I arrived a little early 2:40pm and was told that my stylist would be here in about 10-15 min. No big deal since I was about 20 minutes early. I was given a small bottle of water to drink and I sat down to read some magazines. My stylist finally comes running in at 3:15pm (15 min late!). She tells me to go directly to the shampoo station. I didn't get a warm welcome and I didn't even get to put my bag down near the salon chair. So I carry my belongings with me to the shampoo station. She *quickly* shampoos my hair. And by quickly, I mean more like patted my hair with shampoo and quickly washed it out. I didn't get a glimpse of a head massage while she half-heartedly applied the shampoo without even scrubbing. It was quickly rinsed out and then I was told to bring my stuff to the salon chair where I would get my haircut. (I was wondering why I didn't get a condition treatment but upon inspection of my Groupon afterwards, it was just for a shampoo service). So I get to the chair and pull out my Pinterest board of what I was hoping to get. I wanted a lob. She didn't seem that thrilled about giving me a lob haircut, which made me nervous. She then went looking all over the salon for a comb, scissors, etc. I tried to clarify with her that I wanted it shorter in the back and longer in the front. She just started cutting. I ended up with layers, which was OPPOSITE of what I wanted. I got layers that were shorter in the front and hair thinned out and longer in the back. I really didn't think it would get much worse...When she tried to trim around my face, I nearly got clipped by the scissors because she was facing them upwards and it nearly got my cheek. Later, while my hair was being blow dried, she managed to take off my stud earring. Luckily she caught it and was able to place it on the side for me to put back on later. I left the salon with an excessive amount of hair all over my face. I wasn't offered a towel to brush it all off. Overall I was not the least bit impressed. Again, i really had high hopes given the other positive reviews. I didn't really mind waiting the extra 15 minutes. But the service I received after the waiting was not what I expected. I didn't get the haircut I had in mind. And I will not be going back. (I found out as I was checking out that May was my stylist. The owner of the salon). read more

I would go here every week when I lived on the island. It was just all so convenient. I worked right across the street from May's Salon. They do everything well, wether it was trimming my hair, adding highlights, and doing my eyebrows. I would always have Tao and/or Anna (I believe her name was) to take care of all my grooming needs. Everything was done pretty damn good which is why I miss this place. I was a loyal customer because I would be there (at least) once a week. They even offered to highlight my hair again for FREE because I remained a loyal customer. Unfortunately, I just can't seem to find awesome hair stylist where I now reside that styles my hair to perfection just like they do at May's Salon. They're also cheaper than Supercuts and Fantastic Sam's and probably your current barber. Therefore, If you plan on visiting May's Salon, i'd say go for it! I showed him a couple pictures of what I wanted and a gave him a brief description, and he totally nailed it. This has got to be my favorite place to get my eyebrows threaded. I walked in and they were fairly busy, but the ladies working were so nice being that they would squeeze me in. Tao was a great stylist who gave me a wonderful shampoo, haircut, & style If it were not for him, I would have rated this salon low because of the women who work there and their lack of customer service and communication skills. For some reason, they did not take my appointment down and when I went in, one woman asked if I would mind to wait about 25 to 30 minutes. The wait was wayyyyyy longer than this and during the wait time, none of the 2 women there provided any update as to what was happening. I really needed a haircut and had a groupon. I'm so glad I found this place! I didn't want to pay $60 again, like most places charge here in Hawaii, so I decided to give his place a try. I called last minute and asked if they could take me in since I was in the area and they said if you could come within 10 mins, so that was perfect! I got there and was greeted Tao. I read reviews about how great he was so I was excited for him to work with me. He washed my hair then took me to his chair and asked me what I needed done. I told him I don't have time to style it, it's hot here and my hair drags me down and I wanted to cut a good amount but not too short. Also I wanted to try parting it in the middle because my part is always on the side. He told me what he thought would look good and guided me on what he was doing while cutting my hair. He did everything I asked for and more! Tao showed me how to style my with a blow dryer and how I can part my hair both ways. He really made me feel like a new person with my haircut and did an amazing job. You can't beat the price here, I paid $35! I will definitely be back to get my haircut with Tao again! read more
