Mazar is hands down one of our favorite restaurants. The food is made to order and always delicious.

If speed is your game, this place is not for you if you're in a rush! The food took a little while to come out but it's worth the wait. While you wait for your food you are entertained by the tv playing music videos and the great interior design of Mazar Kabob! You get a lot of food for the price you pay, and the food tastes pretty good so I have no complaints there.

    Boneless Chicken Lunch Platter

Had a great experience at this restaurant! I got the boneless chicken kabob lunch special. Really enjoyed everything that came in the platter. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The veggies had some good seasoning to it. Really also liked the rice and bread that came with this platter. Also got spinach as a side for this dish, and it was decent. I was particularly impressed by the value of this platter. This lunch special cost $10, and if you weren't very hungry, you could probably split it with another person. So, excellent value! Overall, the food at this restaurant was delicious and I highly recommend trying this place out.

Holy cow! Come here for lunch!!!! Their Lunch specials are amazing. I got the bone in chicken lunch special and it was 10$!!! Food was made to order, so it's not going to come out quick. Don't come here if ur in a hurry. But it was sooo much food. The bread was amazing (chewy and crunchy) also made to order and bigger than ur head! If you are picky or have too many questions then don't bother since I don't think they speak English very well.

The chicken kabob was so juicy and delicious the flavors and seasoning really hit the spot! And the chefs were kind, they even gave free soup to people waiting.

If you're looking for authentic, delicious, flavor and fresh food, Mazar Kabob is the place! I ordered the boneless chicken kabob platter with chickpeas. My husband and I are always on the hunt for a good kabob spot and this is the best I've had in a long time! I will definitely come back to try different items from the menu. Staff is super friendly and my friend and I sat at the fun seating area. They have regular seats as well but it was fun to try something different. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed!

The best restaurant with the kindest and hardest working staff I have ever experienced. Thank you very much.

For delicious Afghan food in a colorful, authentic environment, this is THE place. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable.

A very authentic and clean place. The hospitality of the cashier was welcoming. The food is authentic, if you are in the mood for an authentic Afghan food without the influence of spices from other countries please give this place a try. I've had almost everything on the menu and each time the food has been great. This is my go-to place for authentic Afghan food.

Great portion, very tasty! I love this place.

Entry into the counter and buffet with the seating to the left. We almost used the kiosk but I wasn't clear on the buffet options (guess that one was dine-in and one was takeout. But it didn't specify.) We ordered at the counter and sat down. They said the bread would be a few minutes. I went with the buffet, my wife ordered the chicken shawarma wrap, and we got an order of hummus so baby had something. Buffet isn't huge, but it has a good variety. I started with a little of almost everything. The two rices, spinach, chickpea stew, okra stew, chicken curry, beef stew, salad, and pickled veggies. I recommend trying a little of everything because it was all good. Maybe could have used a bit more salt, but better to let someone add seasoning than to be overly salty. I think my favorites were the beef stew, chickpea stew, and seasoned rice. The flatbread came out hot and fresh. Slightly crispy on the bottom and chewy inside. My wife really liked her shawarma wrap. I only took a tiny bite of chicken, but I thought it was good. The hummus seemed fresh with a strong, nutty flavor. I think maybe extra tahini? Price wasn't too bad. Maybe a little pricey, or I'd at least say it wasn't inexpensive. I we did leave quite full. The man working at the counter was extremely friendly. Walking me through everything on the buffet and making recommendations.

I'm a local customer and live just a minute away, so I've visited more than once. I came in for lunch today with my wife and our 1.5-year-old son. After placing our order and sitting down, the server loudly yelled from behind the counter for us to come get our water. It felt uncomfortable and unprofessional, especially with a young child. When I placed my order, I asked for extra white sauce, and I asked again when the food came out. Both times, the request was ignored. I also mentioned that we hadn't received our drinks, but instead of addressing it, the server again yelled for us to get the drinks ourselves from the cooler. The food itself was okay, but the bread was very poor--hard and barely edible. I even called the restaurant later in the evening to share my concerns, but was told the server was off at that time. Overall, very disappointing experience, mainly due to the customer service. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and leads to improvement.

Got a combo of chicken kabob and shami kabob along with a side of their borani banjan/eggplant dish. The eggplant was honestly one of my favorite things- it's a must get in my opinion. Homey dish with incredible flavors! Their naan is fresh and pairs well with it. The chicken was good, but I've had better honestly. The shami was a little disappointing as I expected more flavor and it was slightly dry, but good. Their rice was so tasty and I loved the sweetness coming from the carrots an raisins. Of course, the sheeryakh was great- quite a big portion for one person, but I loved the texture. It tastes very similar to the Indian/South Asian/Pakistani ice cream, "Kulfi." CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK: Service needs improvement. The whole time I was there I had to keep looking for waiters to make eye contact with to ask for menu, water, paying, etc. It took about 10 min or more for me to have to call a busy waiter over just to look at the menu- no one came over on their own. Things just took time for a Saturday night- plus they were hosting an event on top of this. Needless to say, I've never had service like this, but the vibe and food made me be not as harsh. Despite the service, this place is a must try for authentic Afghan cuisine. Can't wait to try more of their menu (and the borani banjan again) in the future!

We were also a party of five but were only given one menu to share so not very convenient. I ordered the Chicken & Shami Kabob and it came with a choice of white or brown rice, one side, and naan. The meal looked nothing like the photo on the restaurant's website. The portion was overwhelmingly rice with very little meat. None of the garnishes shown in the picture were included on the rice. For $24 I expected a much better presentation and a more balanced portion. Oh and the meat was kind of dry. Parts of our order were missing, some dishes that came out were incorrect. The experience felt disorganized and the food didn't justify the price.

The portions are great and the food quality tastes good. I normally get the platter which comes with protein and two sides. I wish it allowed a combo kabob rather than one protein. If you do combo they hike the price up l, it's an additional $7-9. I think $25 is a bit excessive, but that's typically only if you do two types of protein instead of one. The little mini salad that comes with the meals had a really good dressing, and I enjoyed it. I didn't really like the chick peas. I prefer the ones at Charcoal Kabob in Herndon which are lot more spicier. These had a more tomato flavor to them which I've experienced at other kabob places. Also didn't care for the white yogurt sauce. It tasted and felt more like a salad dressing. The green sauce was really good, and I stuck with that for dipping. Service: fast casual. You go to the counter, order, pay, and they bring the food to your table. Ambiance: nice, new, and clean. Pretty generic. You could sub in any cuisine. I thought the prices were on par with any other kabob places, only most other places serve their meals with naan. Not here, but the portion sizes are big enough to fill you up. My husband and I close this restaurant to break my fast. We were greeted quickly by the hostess who led us to booth seating, and gave us menus. There was no need though, as we had already spotted the all-you-can-eat buffet. We requested only water to go with our meals; she quickly brought a carafe of chilled water and two glasses. This is a generous buffet with many selections for a complete meal, from soup and salad to dessert. There was a good variety of both meat and vegetarian options. Our FAVORITES included the fresh mixed chickpea salad (the chick peas, cucumbers, tomato, onion, parsley); lamb curry (which featured tender boneless and tender meat); rice pilau with raisins and carrots; borani badenjan (eggplant curry. Tip: drizzle yogurt on this);; bamia (okra) curry; firnee milk pudding (dessert); and the addictive dooth pati chai (spiced milk tea). There were also some items that we didn't enjoy as much but were still good. For instance, the chicken kofta meatballs, while nicely spiced, were very dry. And, the nan bread was disappointing. (There were also many additional good choices on the buffet that are not listed here). The ambiance in the restaurant is comfortable, with many paintings and decorations from Afghanistan. Some tables are in a side room, ideal for small groups or privacy. We noticed, but didn't visit, a downstairs shop with Afghan carpets and other goods. Plus, there's a shop on the side that sells groceries. Parking is plentiful and free. The lunch buffet was $17.99 each, plus VA sales tax (6.3%), city meals tax (5.3%), credit card service free (3.5%), and tip (variable). There are cheaper options available if you order from the menu. We would return when next in Charlottesville.
