Pizza is amazing. I haven't had the salad or mozzarella sticks in a while but if the pizza is still this good I can imagine so are the rest of their items. Monday lunch with Tom. A true neighborhood gem. This was a delightful detour as we couldn't find parking at a restaurant we wanted. There was plenty of handicap parking spots which appreciate. Careful of the roughly uneven pavement and sidewalk. We were warmly greeted by Sammy upon arrival. Looks like a wine bar, Italian deli and restaurant. You can feel that people gather here for food and memories. I wasn't too hungry, so I ordered the Caesar with Chicken and the tiniest croutons. Which was a nice change compared to the rock hard ones that would wreck the roof of your mouth. Dressing came on the side which was perfect. Tom had meat lasagna, which also included a salad and bread. He thoroughly enjoy 1/2 and boxed the rest. My favorite thing about dining out is the hospitality. It truly makes or breaks the experience. I will go back to place with great service and good food. I will not return to a place with poor service and great food. On the corner of the street in South Park is Mazara Trattoria. The outside made me think it was a small restaurant, but it was actually quite large and spacious. When you first enter, there's rows and rows of drinks available for your choosing. Sodas, water, beer, etc. You grab one and then get seated. The tables are lined with tablecloths and decorated with massive wine bottles in the center (which the waiter later removes for more space). What I loved was the window seating that they had on a raised platform, just for 2 people, that seems like it would be super dreamy and romantic for a couple or someone on a date! We had a really large group and he was kind enough to put 3-4 tables together for us. The service was good, we were given some heavy duty menus with beautiful font. I know, who goes to an Italian Restaurant and orders a sandwich? So, originally, I was going to order a pizza slice but I didn't see it on the menu and was too shy to ask about it. I ordered the ~$11.95, 8 inch Genoa Salami Sandwich with no onions on it. It came with a hefty layer of mustard, lots of spring mix salad, tomato, and lots of Genoa salami. The bread was a bit dry, like the texture of it being a day old maybe? I think the layering of the salami needed a little work as the entire slices lay flat and we're sticking out of the sandwich which made it a little difficult to eat. It was quite big of a sandwich, I was surprised it was their 8 inch! It also came with a slice of pickle, 2 olives, and a peperoncino. My friends ordered: - 2 Pepperoni Pizza Slice: they were absolutely massive, I think it was almost as big as the large size pizza! - 1 Large The Works Pizza: This looked like a combo pizza, the crust was thin, and beautifully cooked. Sizing was a bit wonky, but 4 people ate it well. - Everyone enjoyed their sodas as they were cold and refreshing. After we finished eating we told the waiter what we ate and if we had any drinks with our meal -- and paid separately. They were very kind and patient through the payments. Cool place and location! They definitely have great service and make you feel at home. But the food... ughh the food. They had us at pizza and beer. It's like milk and cookies for adults. My husband had a cheese slice. Then they asked me what I would like.. I asked for cheese and mushroom, and I got it! But what they did was give me an already cooked soggy slice of pizza, reheating it with more cheese and mushrooms. I could have gone home and doctored up my own frozen pizza, and it would have tasted better. I'm not sure why they would serve that and be proud to take my money. It all went to the trash tbh. The pasta sauce has zero flavor. The pizza was good, but soggy in the center. I ordered a mousse slice for my bday. But they sent tiramisu, it came in a box in a large puddle of water. What an absolute treat!!! My friend and I went in for a quick slice of pizza before a concert at Viejas arena and were absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the size and flavor of our pizza slices. Well, in spite of all my very conscious bias I decided I wanted to try it! We walked in, past the Liquor Store area and onto the dining room area. We got seated on a pedestal right by the window like some very attractive mannequins. A little embarrassing to be on display, but we figure hey, we'll help them fill up the place : - D Our waitress was very nice and patient with us as we looked over the menu. We started off with the Scampi Trulli Vinci with shrimp, tomato, artichoke and white wine sauce- it was really good, the sauce was very delicious and something you want to keep dipping your bread in! We decided to order their spaghetti and added meatballs and my husband had their lassgana. Both come with a small garden salad, and bread. Both generous portions! For drinks- you are free to browsed the "liquor store" and bring your drink to the table- pretty cool! Both dishes were really good, and tasked like something you'd eat at your Italian Friends grandmother or mothers house. Definitely a "homey" , comfort food feeling. I came here a bit randomly on weekend before heading out to down town to check out Comic Con. Being in the neighborhood I was always a bit curious to this place and wanted to see what the slices were all about becuase while there are numerous pizza options, there aren't any by the slice places around. I was greeted very warmly at the counter and I place my order for some slices. One thing I don't like is not seeing an ordering menu with options for the slices, or not seeing prices. I also didn't see a tradtional glass case with pizza slice like you would see at NY style pizzeria. In any case, I get a cheese, pep, and a sausage. Grab some drinks from the cooler (also no prices), take a seat near the window. 10 or so minutes later we get our slices on some foil on top of some metal pizza pans. It looked like there was a giant cheese pizza that they just add toppings to and re-heat. The slices are huge and if that is your jam, you'd be happy. The crust was soft and saggy - there was no folding going on because it was so floppy. No crisp, no crunch. Toppings were pretty mediocre as well. Very greasy - although generous. Overall, it was disappointing but edible. At the very end when I paid, I was a bit surprised that it came out to well over $7 bucks a slice and with the two drinks and some chips to go, I was out over $30 bucks. For that, I could've gone next door to Il Posto for a legit wood oven Neapolitan pizza and grabbed chips at 7-eleven. The staff was super friendly and the location is great. I just wish the food was better and the cost for the food appropriate for what it is. I still would've tried it, but had I known it was $7/slice I would've just gotten two. read more

Deeply upset and saddened by my first experience here, so much so I will never return. Advertisement outside of the restaurant clearly states their lunch pizza deal. However a single pie and lasagna (which they also told me was 7.99) turned out to be 46$. The food wasn't that good, when I called back to contest the prices, neither of the two workers I talked to were willing to hear my complaint or do anything about it. Both shirked responsibility and told me to come back or call back later. Really disappointing customer service and food. One of the worst pizzas I've ever eaten. I don't know how else to say how upsetting this was, and how poorly I was treated. I'd give it 0 stars if I could and will never return. First of all, our waiter was fantastic. Fantastic. Super attentive and accommodating. And friendly, just the way you'd expect a family run, neighborhood place to be. I ordered Meatball and Ricotta pizza (my favorite) and they nailed it. I got the 14 inch pizza and there was plenty to take home for breakfast and lunch the next day. My partner had the penne with the blush sauce and chicken. He thought it was a bit light on the chicken. But very good. And next time he'd ask about getting a larger portion (yes at an additional cost to be fair!) We both left too full to have dessert. But from take out I know their baklava is homemade and amazing. I had made a note that I wanted no olives, but the pizza still came with olives which is my only critique. The pizza was a good size and the dough was excellent. Mazaras has never failed me before, in the decades I have eaten their food. I ordered lasagna tonight with a tossed salad and garlic bread. With a Caesar salad. There was not much lasagna in the lasagne. The tossed salad was just greens and a sad tomato with 2 olives. The Caesar was not very good. I ordered 2 not realizing how many slices I would get. 1 order would have been more than sufficient. My son and his cousin had the pizza and they loved it. My husband and I shared the lasagna and salad Salad was refreshing after a long hot day at the beach. I dipped my fork in the bolognese sauce the lasagna was in. Pretty new remodel - looks classy. Revamped the menu and wine list. They have gluten free pizza dough for celiac sufferers. They will also make dairyless pizza! My husband got the spaghetti dinner during Happy Hour. Yes they have Happy Hour!! I forgot to mention that the marinara sauce on the spaghetti was homemade not from a can. It was delicious! We came on a Saturday night & the fact that it was dead should have been a red flag. We ordered the bruschetta as an app and it was mediocre. It was served on a white piece of bread which I could have just bought from Vons. Extremely disappointed. My dad then got his shrimp scampi that was a soup? He hated it. We then got chicken parm sandwhich as well as a chicken parm entree. The marinara was sweet and not good at all. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this place and wasted $100+.
