My friends and I booked Steampunk Alice (because, clearly, the theme sounds dope as heck), and it was honestly one of the COOLEST escape rooms I've ever done in LA!! I've actually been to the other Maze Room for their Magic Tree and Lunar Mission rooms, which I also really enjoyed. But the set design for Alice perfectly embodied this dark fantasy aesthetic and was honestly so trippy, I genuinely felt like I was trapped in Wonderland and LOVED IT. The puzzles themselves were also so unique and interactive in contrast to the typical locks (not sure if there were any locks at all actually besides one bonus question). The overall ambiance is slightly creepy but nothing too scary - what's REALLY scary is how insanely well-made these rooms were. Our gamemaster (I wanna say his name was Max...) was manning two rooms simultaneously, and as someone who also has part-timed at an escape room, that's no easy feat but nonetheless did such an amazing job of immersing us into the world + had the funniest commentary that made the experience all the better. MIB Maze room was so much fun. We were a group of 6 and it was perfect. The maze had its challenging moments but we were able to get clues. We got 5 clues and we managed to successfully complete the mission. Highly recommend coming here with friends or even on a double date. Our guide was amazing and he really did commit to the role. In from outta town and stumbled across this place since we were close. Having never done an escape room activity we thought the 4 of us should give it a go. We strolled into the back door (?) and was surprised by what we saw. Crazy, creative spooky library kinda decoration with books floating above us and book stairs leading up to a mysterious floor above. The phone on the table rang. A mysterious voice inquired if we had a reservation- we DID NOT. He offered us the only available room- SPYDOGS. We quickly filled out our online waiver and were escorted to the room and given instructions- solve the puzzles and escape the room in an hour. We cut it super close, but, Haines out 3 hints we were able to escape the room, solving all the clues and puzzles with just under 5 mins left. The kids had a great time, so did the adults. A bit pricier than indoors guessed, but for an experience it was well worth it. read more

My youngest son and I love escape rooms and have done about 50 of them. We tried They're Coming at a different Maze Rooms location and loved it so we wanted to try this location. Can we all just take a minute and appreciate how freaking cool this place looks!?! Everything was books. Walls, stairs, doorways - it was books everywhere! I should have taken more pictures but you'll just have to go see for yourself. At this location we really liked Spy Dogs. It was very cute and interactive. I will say that you do need to crawl a couple times so maybe not a good idea for anyone who can't get on all fours but for us this just added to the fun! If you've read any of my other escape room reviews, you know that I do not like dark rooms with lots of locks. This room was bright and almost everything was electronic in some way. I believe there was only one lock in the whole thing and it's actually necessary, you'll see. Everything was so cute and all the clues made sense. Just remember, you have to think like a dog! Percy was our game master and she genuinely wants everyone to enjoy their experience! Her clues were fantastic, she didn't just give us the answer, she would give us a nudge in the right direction which is what we prefer. This was definitely the best Maze Room I did in SoCal. If I had a layover at LAX I would definitely go try to fit one in if possible. We did the Steampunk Alice game and it was truly amazing. The technology in this room was by far one of the greatest I've ever done. It was really entertaining how everything worked. Most escape games would just have lock combinations but this definitely wasn't that. It was pretty difficult but I feel like it was completely worth it. read more

What an amazing night. We did two rooms : steampunk Alice and cyberpunk samurai and we had an absolute blast. Every good escape room has at least one wow moment. These rooms had MULTIPLE. Everything from the design to the tech was made to generate the most fun and we had a blast solving the puzzles and exploring. One of the most impressive escape rooms we've ever done! This was mostly due to the production quality and atmosphere, which btw are not limited to just the rooms. This begins upon entry, in the foyer, up the stairs, and through the hallways. It feels like an old-style library with many books and antique chests. Lots of oddities add to the mysterious vibe including a giant fist holding a chandelier, and offbeat art on the walls. To get to the restrooms, you walk through a telephone booth and once inside, there are framed photos of people pointing and laughing at you. So many secret doors in the space that was slightly startled when our game master came out of his office. My friends and I did the Cyberpunk Samurai game. I've never played Cyberpunk so I didn't know what to expect. But without giving too much away, let's just say that I was creeped out a lot. If that was the intention, they did a great job...lol! All of the puzzles seemed complex enough to challenge us but not too complex to feel defeated. I will admit, there were some puzzles that we solved without knowing how we solved them. We could ask for unlimited hints (we asked for help twice). The hints were not really "hints" per se but more like the actual answer. I think I would've liked guidance rather than the freebie to advance in the game though. The end of the game came kinda fast for us as we didn't quite understand that we finished the whole game. So it was a bit anticlimactic when the doors opened and our game master congratulated us. But perhaps that was just because we were enjoying the game and didn't want it to be over. Our group of 4 escaped with about 20 minutes to spare which was quite shocking considering all of the complex puzzles that were involved. Unlike other escape rooms that we've done, there isn't a photo opportunity after the game. So we didn't really celebrate and commemorate our escape. For that reason and for the fact that our hints were pretty much answers, I docked a star. Otherwise, great game! Would be happy to check out the other rooms here as we as their other locations. read more

I love unique experiences like this. And especially when you have to solve puzzles. Great use of space and the production value is pretty high. Came here for a work event, and it was so fun. The puzzles were clever and the host was so friendly and helpful. The only gripe I would have is that maybe the rooms were too small for our group. There were seven of us so some other areas were getting a little cramped. And for reference, we did the Alice room. So I would just recommend probably going with a slightly smaller group. Also, some of the puzzles are audible so you have to listen closely, which made it difficult only because we' were all talking at the same time and missed a clue here and there. So we needed a few hints. All in all great fun and different difficulty levels for people. Definitely would go back and do another room. I'm curious to try their hardest room. read more

We did the cyberpunk samurai room and really loved it! It's really amazing how immersive the room is, the production of the room is incredibly high. All of the puzzles and clues are really well built and we really enjoyed solving them. Special kudos to the engineers who worked on this room, there are a lot of electronics and moving parts that must have required a lot of work to custom build for this room. There were 4 of us, and that felt like the perfect amount of people (3 experienced escape roomers and one newbie). We escaped with some time left and didn't require any clues, I would put this room at intermediate. For reference, I've probably done about 10-15 escape rooms in my life. Also, the room is in a large shopping center with a huge parking lot, so thats a huge bonus. A lot of these rooms parking can be such a hassle. read more

First time trying out this company's escape room and I must say my friends and I enjoyed ourselves. We did the steam punk Alice and that was a really fun game , I love how there was so much hidden puzzles and the story behind that game was really cool. I love how easy it is to find this place and the entrance of this place was pretty dope with the staircase looking books and having it look like we're in Harry Potter . The only thing I can say is that the Game master that was in charge of our game he could've been a bit more enthusiastic and actually seem like he's having fun with all of trying to give hints and he didn't seem like he wanted to be there at all but either than that we had a great time . We had an absolute blast at this Maze Games location! We came in initially for Steampunk Alice, but enjoyed the room so much we immediately followed with Cyberpunk Samurai. Each of the rooms are clearly a labor of love and very inspired. There's a good variety of puzzles and interactive mechanics that provide a little something for every type of puzzler. It was also nice that some of the puzzles could be solved in parallel, or would be best played with more than one person, so we constantly had something to do. Our game master, Armen, was a fantastic host. Highly recommend visiting and we'll definitely be back to play the other rooms! read more

We visited two escape rooms at this location: Spy Dogs and Cyberpunk Samurai, with a team of six (four kids and two adults). Our all-girls team had an amazing time in both escape rooms. We started with Spy Dogs, which the kids absolutely loved. It's incredibly fun and cute while also being logical with interesting and creative tasks. You really feel like a Spy Dog to complete the escape successfully. This is a fantastic adventure for kids, and it was perfect for our girls, aged 7 to 9. Cyberpunk Samurai, on the other hand, is my personal favorite. It's a real adventure with top-notch implementation--decorations, tasks, music, and storytelling are all incredible and thoughtfully crafted. You can tell this escape room was created with a lot of heart and soul. It's very immersive; I traveled through three different worlds in one game, which is unforgettable. Highly recommend! The entire location is beautifully designed, making you feel like you're stepping into a magical place. This is probably one of the best indoor activities in Los Angeles. read more

As an avid escape room fan I can wholeheartedly say that this location makes an effort to give you a fully immersive experience. Their decorations are by far one of the best I've seen and the escape rooms are very unique compared to others I've been part of. I took my team of 7 down there for a team builder and we split into MIS and Spy Dogs. I personally did MIS and while difficult, it was also a fun experience! We also received reviews from the team that did Spy Dogs and they loved it. All in all, entire team had fun. We did the Samurai Steampunk room which was an interesting concept and we weren't sure what to expect. This is an amazing location. It's owned by the same owner as the Vermont Location, which has some of the most ambitious and high-tech rooms I've ever seen. The trend continues at this location. I've done all four rooms here: Spy Dogs, Cyberpunk Samurai, Men In Suits, and the newly opened Steampunk Alice. Spy Dogs is excellent. Don't let the cutesy theme fool you, it's got fresh puzzles and it leans into the "secret agent dog" theme in such creative ways it's hard not to be charmed by it. Cyberpunk Samurai is gorgeous. It's basically two rooms in one. Again, it's got inventive puzzles that are going to be unlike ones you've seen in other rooms. Men In Suits feels like being Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black, chasing aliens through the streets of NYC. It's got some utterly far-out puzzles that will really test your ability to think creatively. Finally, Steampunk Alice might be the owner's masterpiece. As you've probably guessed by now, many of the puzzles are original and unlike what I've seen in other rooms. Add to that the set-pieces, which are INCREDIBLE. We did Steampunk Alice, the room was cool, but all over the place. Anthony walked us through after which we really appreciated. The room has safety hazards tho! Update 7/18/23 @4:00pm: I called back the following morning because I had a voucher for $15 off from the Vermont location that wasn't applied. I told them they charged my credit card the incorrect amount and the lady hung up on me twice whenever I brought up the issue. This is very upsetting because LA Maze Room game masters have all been very accommodating, but this employee may not make me return to this location anymore. read more

This review is for the Spydpgs room. This room had sooo much potential but turned out to be such a disappointment. Not one, but a handful of the puzzles didn't work properly which left us confused as to whether or not we solved the puzzles correctly. At one point, the game master had to run into the room to push on a magnetic piece to release a key in the middle of the game. We loved the theme, but the malfunctions made this specific room unenjoyable. read more

I called in to get more information about the maze room location/time availability. The receptionist was not helpful. I called and asked about the closest time at this location and she gave me the another time at a different location at Hollywood! I kept repeating it to her and she sounded like she didn't know. I referred to the website like she told me but I told her I was looking for something closer. My partner and I came in for the Spy Dogs room. It was SO well thought out! Probably one of our fav escape rooms to date. We thought it was very creative, intricate and a fun challenge. We escaped with 6 mins to spare. As an added plus, we loved that this location had a decorated lobby. It's the first one we've seen that wasn't just a plain room. Months ago we did the steampunk Samaria at this location and it was good and the staff was helpful. This time we did MIB and from the moment we walked in the door the staff was disinterested in what they were doing and seemed stoned. I am sure i smelled marijuana. These people were not welcoming, helpful or energetic like other escape room companies. We did MIB, there was so much background noise that you could not hear the people on the walkie talkies and the people giving you the clues were not very helpful, even a bit rude like we were bothering them. Then they just stopped responding to the walkie talkies. We were stuck and couldn't figure out the room and the staff was not replying. We had to just walk out the exit door and abandon the mission. Management needs to hire the right personalities for this job. The staff is part of the experience for escape rooms. We love escape rooms but there are plenty of other locations with better staff. read more

Entrance is located in the parking lot behind the business on Sepulveda, at first glance you don't know what to expect so it's quite a surprise when you walk in. Full on and very charming theme that gets you immediately ready for an adventure. We escorted a group of 8 yer olds who came to an escape room for the first time and were nervous. We were three adults and still needed to ask for clues to help the kids, they would have never been able to solve it on their own, but it was a fun experience for us. Some of the kids were scared silly, yelling in horror, and even crying... Lol totally drama driven ! it was not scary at all. It was a cute theme of finding a missing dog. My only note is that the room was small and you had to crawl into an ever smaller space so felt a little claustrophobic. We were five kids and three adults so was a little crowded. There was a couple doing a different room, which I thought was a cute idea as an outing for a date. read more

After having some issues the first time around, my husband and I did come back to give the new rooms a try. I was pleasantly surprised when the owner, Armen, reached out to us to offer us a test play of their new room. I thought that was a great touch to reach out to a customer that had a less-than-perfect experience (which was really just driven by the one Games Master we had working the room, rather than the rooms itself). We played MIS just before/around the public opening and thought the overall gameplay and theme was fantastic. Based loosely on Men in Black, the the team at Maze Rooms really did spend a lot of thought into their puzzles and theming. Although we encountered a minor technical issue trying to get the Taco to quiet itself, it didn't derail our overall experience. We thought it was great that the team wanted feedback on how to make their room better and really took the time after the game to listen for ways to improve. I have played all the rooms at this location and they are all so amazing! It's too hard to pick a favorite cause they all have such amazing surprises! Spy dogs is hilarious and sooooo cute. If you're an animal lover or have a cat or dog at home this room will resonate with you. Cyberpunk Samurai is super clever and feels like you really are a time traveler. Men in Suits is incredibly immersive and full of fun. Steampunk Alice has insane special effects and puzzles that make you go "THATS SO COOL" every time. read more

Wowow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its rooms like this that make you keeping coming back. This might be the 70th room my wife and i have done, yet we were sooo impressed with Spy Dogs! The genius behind the room has another location in Vermont, which has amazing rooms as well. Spy Dogs quickly has become one of our favorite, if not our favorite room! The set is soo beautifully and creatively designed. The story and premise is so much fun and delightful! The room itself was so interactive and everything had such great flow! Anyone with eyes can easily tell that the creator truly cares and goes the extra miles. A very charming and humorous room that people of all ages will enjoy without a doubt! I adore escape rooms. I've done close to 200 and have done many of the ones that Maze Rooms offer, but I just had to offer some feedback on this one because of how I felt after leaving the games (we played Cyberpunk Samurai first and then Spy Dogs) First the good; -Rebecca was a fantastic game master and was enthusiastic, offered clear hints when we asked for them and left us alone when we did not. -puzzles were clever and the tech all worked great for 95%, which while not perfect, was perfectly acceptable -adored the set design of 2/3 of Cyberbunk samurai which was absolutely gorgeous, but when we go to the last 1/3, that's when things went south. To the designer of the games; LOUD MUSIC AND SFX DO NOT ENHANCE THE GAME TO MAKE IT MORE "FUN". I love a good background soundtrack of city scape or nature to enhance the environment, but when it's obviously chosen to be annoying and distracting and so loud that whenever we try to communicate we can't hear each other, it really ruins the whole point of doing these rooms. We want to have fun, we want to feel clever, we want to interact with our friends and teammates. If we are getting a headache because the soundscape is too loud, that's not fun. If your puzzle needs to be made "more challenging" by having unnecessary dialogue or aggressively annoying music playing to distract us, that's a bad puzzle. If we can't hear each other so we end up unable to communicate or interact so we just end up focusing on something by ourselves, that robs us of the joy of feeling like we all participated to win. For the record, this complaint also applies to any game rooms that are made "challenging" with dim lighting. Ambience is one thing, but there should always be a strong light source SOMEWHERE where we can read clues. Light was not as much of a problem in this room as the aggressive sound, but putting it out there for future reference. We even asked Rebecca at one point during the Spy Dog game if she could please turn the music off, which she apologetically said she could not. When we finally (and mercifully ) escaped, we expressed our concerns to her and she informed us that the owners had been told in the past about sound complaints and the owner pretty much shrugged their shoulders and said something along the lines of "agree to disagree". I implore you, whoever is in charge of these games; -greatly reduce the soundscape volume -change the music so there at least aren't any lyrics or words to compete with us trying to communicate with each other I have never wanted to just "quit and leave" a room before, but the stress and anxiety of these rooms brought me super close, and even still, we left the rooms with a bad taste in our mouths. Maze rooms are too good a company to write off completely, but it will be a while before I recommend them to anyone. read more

We did spy dogs. Room was cool. Some puzzles didn't react until we "asked for hint" from gm. Gm Joseph was unresponsive and did not activate things when we solved them. Disappointed as we love maze rooms. Just not this location. Very sad experience. And these things ain't cheap. read more
