I found Mazzat almost on accident while walking from Red Hook to Prospect Heights. The storefront exudes an understated sophistication, which the interior matches. There's nothing pretentious or gaudy in this restaurant. It's all functional without being completely barebones or lacking aesthetic sense. The wait staff are very friendly and professional. They pay attention to your table, offer tasteful advice and pairings, and aren't overly pushy about anything. I ordered a beefsteak tomato salad, a chicken wrap with fries, and a lemonade. The lemonade tasted very fresh, not drawn from preservatives at all--it had the tang characteristic of real lemonade. The salad was awesome. It had tomatoes, olives, cheese slices, and red onions, all doused in a nice olive oil and lemon mixture. The chicken wrap was solid, with juicy, high-quality chicken. The fries were quite good too, certainly far above most basic fry options you get at diners or "faster" Mediterranean restaurants. They were crispy and seasoned, while also having no lingering oil or grease on them at all. The waiter offered me a baklava for dessert, which I decided to go for. I'm definitely glad I did. It had a perfect pastry layer that was fluffy and crispy. The pistachio filling was awesome as well. This is the second-best baklava I've ever had honestly (the only one that beats it is at Finjan Coffee in San Diego). Mazzat is an absolute need-to-try. If you're in Brooklyn--heck, if you're in Manhattan or Queens--you need to make it a point to try this restaurant out.

"I cook with love". These were the endearing words from the Eygptian owner of Mazzat. Though this gem of a Mediterranean restaurant doesn't focus on one specific region, Mazzat is a restaurant where you'll return time and again. I've been a gazillion times now since my previous reviews and have also done delivery. Dining onsite offers a cozy, Middle Eastern ambience which is charming and makes one feel at home. A delicious, homemade Hummus was brought to our table complements of the talented yet humble chef/ owner who knows us well. Their fluffy pita bread--whether wheat or white and pita chips served as the perfect dipping vehicle. We shared the Eggplant appetizer as well as the half grilled chicken platter, accompanied by rice and a side salad. It turned out to be the perfect, satisfactory and above all delicious bite we were seeking. I was actually stuffed since the Grilled Chicken platter was enough for two. Our server Joel was extremely cordial, friendly and helpful while Jesus was attentive/friendly rounding out yet another great dining experience. One of my favorite and solid restaurants in the area. A must try.

We decided to check out a new neighborhood spot while looking for something healthyish, so stumbled upon Mazzat. The restaurant is casual, but elevated enough with tablecloths and a full bar. We started off with the Classic Hummus ($8) and Grilled Octopus ($18), which arrived together. The octopus was grilled nicely and paired with some salad and sweet potato slices. I also liked how the hummus came with a variety of pita from soft to fried ones for dipping --great to share. As for our entree, I had the Mixed Grill Meats ($35), which included rice/bulgur and salad. The mixed meats included grilled chicken, lamb, kafta (ground lamb and beef). The meats were all delicious, especially paired with the garlic sauce. I did find the chicken a tad dry, but the sauce helped. The plate came with plenty of meats and I was surprised that I barely finished the entire thing. The fiance got the 12oz Ribeye for his dish paired with string beans and fries. The fries are delicious here since they come seasoned too. Overall, tasty and delicious food with good portions. We were both pleasantly surprised by our meal. Also, loved the jazz cover playlist they got playing here.

Favorite Middle Eastern spot in the neighborhood along with Al Badawi. I've been ordering their falafel wrap consistently over the past couple of years and it has always been on point. Their lemon potatoes, grape leaves, fattoush salad are great too! Highly recommend

My hubby and I go once a year and Mazzat never disappoints. Husband raves about their hot spiced wine. I had a mango margarita. Consistently creamy and delicious hummus, sausage merguez is perfectly seasoned with roasted tomatoes, crispy tasty chicken cigars with an avocado sauce, and the best garlic shrimp ever. Service is always attentive and helpful. Fresh greek salad is nicely dressed. Also tried creamy rice pudding dessert. Didnt get entrees since I was too stuffed. Always a great experience.

Ohhhh what a treat to finally find delicious Falafels at Mazzat!! From the quiet, comfortable and delicious dining to the phenomenal service. I totally recommend. Food: the food was delicious. I recommend the falafel of course, the hummus, the grilled octopus, the mint lemonade, the lemon potatoes, the chicken cigars! I absolutely love their appetizer menu, I feel like everything we ordered from there was phenomenal. Service: their service was excellent. They were fast, knowledgeable about their menu options. They were personable and polite. Ambiance: relaxed, quiet and comfortable setting. We were a group of 12 and they accommodated us comfortably and when we requested another table to add for comfort, they did it without any hesitation. The owner Jimmy and his son are extremely personable. Jimmy holds his restaurant to high standards and speaking to him made me remember why I love mom and pop restaurants. Because the owners take pride in every aspect of their business, because of all the work that they put in. Side note: speaking to Jimmy was probably one of the best things I did because we came to find out that Jimmy was the owner of Rakka Cafe in St.Marks that closed during COVID. Now, we have been looking for Rakka for years since they closed, because they had the best falafels in town. We stumbled upon Mazzat to celebrate a birthday and boom, it was meant to be! I recommend Mazzat for families, friends and large parties. Another beautiful thing is that they offer family style servings, it works well if you have a large party. I recommend calling the restaurant ahead of time to reserve and pricing out the per person charge. If not, they also have a brunch menu and a full bar. And hey, please make sure you have the falafel, you will remember this yelp review and thank me for it via the yelp gods!

I rate Mazzat "EOAF" for - Exorbitantly Overpriced Average Fare. I wound up spending $190.00 ($157.00 before tip) for a meal that my coffee shop up on Court Street or the Italian Cafeteria Style joint on Smith Street could do for less than half the price and a thousand times better! First let me say the service & staff are great - friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient - but when the kitchen is churning out average grub at Manhattan prices - you best catch the F train to the city quick if you want any bang for your buck. They have great outdoor seating which is hard to find anywhere from Carroll Gardens to Red Hook (I live in the hood). So I took Mom there to give her what I thought would be a chill, relaxing & tasty eve. We ordered the Beet Arugula Feta cheese salad which was of generous proportion. They weren't so generous on the Feta but satisfying none the less. However I knew something was up, when with the salad, they dropped a basket of Pita Bread containing only one slice of store bought pita, sliced in half, for two people! That's like an Italian red sauce joint using Heinz Ketchup for their pasta sauce! Then came the real disasters! We both ordered two of the specials for that night and made the huge mistake of not asking the prices. Mom ordered the cod, with roast potato and green bean almondine and I ordered Angus sirloin with bulgar and green bean almondine. The plates were nothing to look at - no presentation to appeal to the eye. My mother's cod was broken - I guess Chef Stevie Wonder was working the spatula. My steak looked a bit fatty and almost like something you'd get at the old Tad's Steakhouse in Times Square - that now defunct McDonald-ish restaurant chain for Steak houses that made Beef Steak Charlies look like a 5 star dine. The vegetable sides were hospital sized portions - to look at them you'd swear they used an ice cream scoop to plop them down on the plate - and the taste of both entrees & apps merely ADEQUATE. Honestly the only thing Mediterranean about this place is the name on it's awning. Army cooks cook with more spice! My steak and my Mom's cod were just all around decent in taste - nothing at all to make us want to come back. If I was laid up in a hospital bed this would be good grub - and - after seeing the bill I came close to being hospitalized for SHOCK - at the prices they charged! I paid $45 for a steak that would sell for no more than $27 at a dinner. My mom's cod was $28 which was reasonably priced - if it wasn't such of such bland taste and sides of ungenerous proportions. SO IN SUMMARY: We had 2 drinks, 1 app, 2 entrees, 2 coffees, and 2 deserts (baklava & ice cream) and the bill was $157.31! The waiter was good so he got what he deserved $22% so the whole bill for the disaster came out to $190.00! Sorry not for a Columbia Street joint spitting distance from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel that any dinner can do better blindfolded. At tops with tip - and this is being generous it should've been no more than $125.00 If you want to sit outside at sunset for a glass of wine and an app or a burger and beer (on the menu one burger looked yummy) I'd say go - but to spend anything more you'd have to be demented as our current sitting President!

It is always a good feeling when the staff recognizes you and addresses their regulars by name during casual conversation as they walk in for a quick bite. It goes beyond an ordinary welcome, you have become a part of their family. Who doesn't want to go where everybody knows your name or face? I loved how the staff gave individualized attention to each member of our party, including our son. It is very heartwarming to see the genuine care and how they value their customers. I relied on their recommendations for a sweet not tart drink, an entree, and dessert. Mmm....a taste of Mediterranean cuisine on a Monday night. I enjoyed the Brussels sprouts, a Falafel sandwich with whole wheat pita bread with tahini sauce and mixed greens with a side of fries then made room for dessert, which was a tiramisu. From the sips of my sangria to the crumbs of the tiramisu, dinner was superb. Fresh, quality food paired with top-notch customer service is the perfect combination for a memorable night out in Brooklyn.

Ooh how we love Mazzat -- let me count the ways! 1) When ordering they've learned that I am gluten free and add fresh veggies instead of bread when I order hummus. 2) The meat and salad are always fresh -- my family orders the mix of salad and rice/noodles which they say are tasty too. 3) The salad dressings that come with are separate and delish - they're not over overpowering and mix well. 4) Every order we've had (and there are many) has been consistent. That's huge for a restaurant and something most cannot boast. 5) The grape leaves are yummy -- and the vegetarian platter is very good too. 6) There's a lot of options on the menu -- and they can accommodate various needs. 7) In person is a warm neighborhood place but carry out works well too!

I ordered lunch for 15 at our office. Everything came very hot and beautifully prepared. We had the chicken kebabs and lamb kebabs. The meat was very tender and juicy and came with tahina and hummus. And rice. The Fattoush salad was fresh and excellent with a fabulous dressing. We also ordered a tray of falafel which were crispy and delicious. . Delivery came exactly at the appointed time and the owner was very good at helping us stay at our budget. read more

I flew in from Chicago and decided to give this restaurant a try because it had great reviews. I have to say the reviews are spot on. The ambience is warm, intimate and inviting. The waiters and the chef go out of their way to make sure you are pleased. My brother broke a wine glass and the staff were beyond kind. They quickly cleaned every thing up and just poured him another glass and told him not to worry. The food, the wine and the cocktails are especially good. This is for sure a real neighborhood gem. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. read more

This was first time eating traditional Egyptian food and I quite enjoyed it. I ordered it to show my students as I recorded myself reading aloud an Egyptian story and eating authentic food. My friend and I went to have dinner on New Year's Eve at this location. What amazing time we had. The food is delicious. The service the ambience everything was there. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. The food is amazing! So fresh! So flavorful! Mazzat catered a small dinner at my house. Chicken and lamb kebabs (yum!), garlic shrimp, spinach pie, tabouli, tahini. My guests were thrilled, most going up for a second helping (and some a third!). They all asked for the restaurant's name and plan to go. The owner, Jimmy, is a sweetheart and very helpful. His chef, Marcos, is a true talent and helped me refine the menu as the date got closer. I can't say enough good things about Mazzat. Go and see for yourself! read more

I've been to Red Hook's Mazzat about a dozen times over the past couple of years with a friend who lives down the block, and it has consistently been far better food than a neighborhood joint. But the staff are friendly and know the regulars well enough to qualify. Everything I've tried so far has been worth a doggy bag, if I leave anything over despite very generous portions. The hummus, smoky babaganouj, foul madamous (a bean dish pronounced "fool") and garlic lemon potatoes are worth ordering every time -- mazzat means roughly the same thing as mezze or tapas -- and I'd also recommend the lamb cigars and light-as-air falafel. Tonight they had a special beet and goat cheese salad entirely worth finishing despite being sized to share among a foursome. For main courses (and to be fair we usually order enough mazzats to make a full meal) the shish kebab and chicken kebab are fantastic either as a main course or stuffed into super fresh pita. The lamb shank and green beans almondine are great. I don't eat seafood but I've heard nothing but good things about the cod and bronzini. The French fries are fabulous. For dessert try or better yet share the kunafa. Bring a crowd -- it's a place to be festive. read more

I am absolutely furious with this place I ordered from them through Seamless/Grubhub, because they showed up under Fastest, and also had great reviews. They confirmed that the order was being made and would be delivered within a certain window. Then they delayed my order twice, then marked themselves as closed. There was no way to track my order any more, so I called GH. They tried to contact the restaurant, but got no answer. It has now been well over an hour since my food was supposed to be delivered. I work late, and rely on GH to have a meal delivered & ready for me when I get home. Why, Mazzat? Why do you accept and confirm orders that you have no intention of fulfilling? You screwed me hard, and I am extremely angry about this What do you have to say for yourselves? read more

We were looking for a spot with good falafels and thankfully stumbled upon this one. All the food we ordered was delicious and of the freshest ingredients. The falafels were soft and moist inside yet had a nice crispy texture on the outside. We normally do not like stuffed grape leaves because we often find them bitter, but these were terrific and we would order them again. The hummus and babaganoush were excellent! Probably the best we've ever had. Interesting the pita was whole wheat and it felt so healthy. I loved the large chunks of feta in the Greek salad. We had the food delivered and the delivery fee was very descent. The food is a bit expensive, but the quality was definitely worth the price. read more

I've cycled by this place a couple times now but never stopped to eat. I had time this evening and they had a couple outside tables open so I stopped off. I was tempted by multiple of the tapas plates but I landed on the Greek salad w/ salmon. I don't eat dairy or egg, I asked if they could omit it and the server was able to take off the feta cheese and sauce they cook the salmon in for me. If they weren't able to they had plenty of vegetarian and other seafood options for me to order from. I also ordered a glass of wine, I told them I'd like something light and dry. They recommended their sauvignon blanc which paired great with the salmon and salad. The portion of the Greek salad with salmon was plentiful and the ingredients all were fresh. Their in-house hot sauce I got on the side with lemon, which I highly recommend trying. Daniel, my server, came over multiple times to make sure everything was going well and to my liking. Overall whether you're going by yourself, on a date, or with your family I would highly recommend this spot. read more

This place is SO good. Blown away by the quality of food and love the service. Located in such a unique part of BK and the people watching totally rounds out the experience. I rarely leave reviews because I selfishly want to keep hidden gem to myself but we are moving soon and want others to enjoy as much as we have. Took me 5 years to find it and now we are moving on!! Enjoy! Absolutely the best falafel & hummus but everything on the menu from the rice to kebabs is a winner! read more

Found this place just exploring Columbia street. The manager said they have the best falafel in NYC so we were intrigued and actually really wanted falafel so we gave it a shot. They did not disappoint. All the food is fantastic and super fresh. We will definitely be coming back soon! read more

First time coming here and the ambiance is just amazing, from the low lighting to the relaxing music, it was fantastic, the service was very welcoming and informative of the menu. I ordered the Turkish coffee as a starter and I was already hooked, I also ordered the grilled salmon and the presentation alone really sold me, phenomenal food and really good flavor. Has always been a favorite for delivery, but now that we're just three blocks away, it will most likely become tradition. Fabulous food, all made in house. Best pita I've ever had and the hummus should be a food group. Favorites include the lamb shank, lamb chops, seafood tagine, burger, shrimp wrap, shawarma sandwich... Ok. Just about everything. We came here last night and it was a wonderful experience. I have come here a few times and every time the food and the service are always great. Jay was our server, he was very welcoming and made us a very tasty sangria that was not so sweet. For appetizers we ordered the chorizo, tabouli. We chanced on Mazzat last night and we're happy to find a top-notch choice. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The place itself is cozy, much like a neighborhood bistro. The menu didn't seem all that impressive but when we saw all the specials there was a lot that we were interested in trying. In the end we shared a spinach pie to start, which came with a green salad that was enough to make us decide to cancel the Greek salad we were going to share afterwards. Then we shared a rack of lamb, five succulent chops with haricot verts amandine and delicious bulgur cooked with a mild tomato wash. For dessert one of us had the chocolate mousse cake and the other had baklava. All in all, it was a very satisfying meal. read more

Yum! My friend and I ate dinner here after a long day of chocolate-making over at the Raaka factory. It was a great choice. It was warm enough for us to sit at the open window and people watch - always fun. We were served warm pita with tahini sauce to start, which was good. After that interaction, I struggled to pick it back up with my friend, because I found that distraction very effing rude. When this "4th wall" gets broken down with service, it is hard to then enjoy the space in an uninhibited state. I am all for the Tokyo Vinyl Bar vibe, and I'm also for also giving talent an outlet to share their collection, but this interaction colored my experience, and I closed out after one drink and went elsewhere. The cocktail menu is rather simple, and my Stormbringer drink, with dark rum and ginger beer was not anything to write home about, but $15 is pretty low for cocktails these days so I'll take it. If they introduced new cocktails to the menu with more interesting ingredients I'd be more inclined to return, but the vibes overall are pretty good and the staff really nice.

With a recent visit with family decided to dine in for a change... Wonderful décor and service and decided to try the lamb cassoulet as recommended by our server. A cold damp day outside - so good to try the chicken soup as well - which I have to say was 'off the charts' delicious - a light flavorful broth with chunks of their grilled organic chicken, orzo, and plenty of carrots and celery! I have been working at Mazzat Restaurant for 4 years now. As a waitress and I also did their website and manage their social media. Let me tell you: Mazzat's staff is like my family. Everybody is well treated, from waiters to the staff in the kitchen. Not only that, the food is so good: I cannot be tired of eating their hummus and lentil soup, I could eat this everyday! What a lovely place! I picked my son from soccer practice and we were in the mood for eating outside. We passed by Mazzat, and for some reason decided to try it out, and we were so happy that we did. We tried many different things - some Falafel, Tabouli salad, Mousakaah and a Shawarma sandwich. Everything was great. Each dish had a distinct and unique flavor, and you can feel that the vegetables were fresh - that everything was cut and made on the spot. We highly recommend for everyone to at least give it a try. The staff is beyond friendly, once I walked in they greeted me and seated me right away with a big smile. The food is amazing, everything comes out hot and fresh, everything is seasoned to perfect. To accommodate the amazing food they have a bar to get drinks and wine! It's a nice cozy place for a date. The restaurant is located right by the water so its in a great location for a date. Wonderful food. I have been here a few times in the past year and have always been happy. Great lamb shank. Very good kibbeh, very good lentil soup as well. One of my personal favorites is the dates wrapped in bacon. The kunafa is a spectacular dessert. Unique, and delicious, wine and beer choices. Prix fixe under $30, all around good deal, one of the better Mediterranean places in the city. read more

This is the best kept secret in Brooklyn! The atmosphere of this place is beautiful, the food is immaculate, this place deserves every great review it gets! One of the best Mediterranean Middle Eastern restaurants in the city. They truly put love and attention to details in thier food. The Chef actually came out to explain how certain dishes were prepared! It is good food! read more
