Sam gave me an estimate for fixing my driver's side electric window. It was stuck in the 1/2 down position. The price came in at $20 less than the estimate. I got an itemized list of parts and labor. A DEALERSHIP (whom shall not be named) WOULD NOT give me an estimate. I understand that when unable to look inside the door before fixing it is sometimes risky concerning estimates; however, this is where experience comes into play. Top Notch, Honest & Professional! These would be the three words that are blatantly apparent after bringing my car here a few times. This yelp review is overdue. I am extremely suspect of all car places after having a buddy who works in the industry share some stories. My old Roomate recommended Sam's Shop MC Automotive to me. She said it's the only shop her family uses because he is so forthright and extremely knowledgable about foreign and domestic cars. In his words: "I will fix your problem once so it never has to be done again." My experience is he has done just that. The one thing I love is how he brings me back and takes me through everything with my car. Most notably he recognized that the oil change shops were not putting the super extended life coolant in my Subaru that is required and this harms the system. Super helpful to know. I have taken all the family cars to Sam for years. He has maintained them to the point that I have gotten thank you notes from people when I sold them. Sam has also rescued me from the side of the road, and met my kids on weekends when they wanted second opinions on buying a used car. He goes the extra mile. Sam is a degreed mechanical engineer who worked in the aerospace industry, and he brings that training to the way he repairs cars. I had a new minivan under warranty, and it started belching smoke. The dealer wanted $1100 because he said this particular problem was outside the warranty. Sam asked me to let him have the car overnight so he could drive it around. He heard a leak in the manifold, fixed it for $90 and it ran perfectly afterwards. He's also taught me a lot about the innards of a car - checking the radiator, hoses, filters and other stuff that's saved me a lot. They don't do this kind of stuff for you in Wal-Mart automotive. read more

Sam seems dedicated to keeping abreast with the latest technology in diagnosing and/or repairing vehicles. After going through reviews about the auto repair shops in the area where I work, I picked Mc Automotive Center and another shop to call for the check engine light issue with my Honda-CRV. The other shop would charge me $150 for the diagnosis, while Sam was very honest by telling me that it only took him a few minutes to find out the issue with the computer and, consequently, he would not charge me for that. I decided instantly to let him do the work. Yes, it took him and his technician less than 10 minutes to figure out the issues. And the estimated cost was much less than what others had told me. In addition, he even gave me a ride to work! As I do not know much about vehicle, even after Sam patiently explained to me what was going on with the vehicle that turned the check engine light on, I am still clueless about why the check engine light was on and why the vehicle occasionally turned dead when I stopped at traffic light. What I know is the check engine light is off and the vehicle is now running like a tiger, very smooth and very responsive. read more

This place is the worst. I took my 67 Mustang and had a brand new motor put in. Everything was great until he called me back for the "Free inspection and Oil change" after 500 miles. He calls me the day after Christmas and tells me my call was just stolen. When I get there, he's telling the police officer that things are constantly getting stolen from the property, Blames it on the other shops that share the communal back parking lot because the other places unlock it all night. Then says the locked gate can be lifted on the side with no lock to open the gate to anyone. Sam pretends like he cares but says he can't do anything, Even after his insurance company denies the Claim. I had to file a lawsuit against him eventually. read more

We've been taking our cars to Sam since the early 1980s. Sam was an Aircraft mechanic, and brings this knowledge and precision to automobiles. He is honest and will show you the parts. Sam recently diagnosed my car that broke down on a trip. Out of town mechanic said it was engine. Sam put it into neutral and the noise went away, proving it wasn't the engine,, but probably the transmission. He repaired it better than the original. read more

My family has brought cars to Sam since i was a kid, and after getting frustrated with various other businesses cheap shoddy work I started to bring my cars there as well. He's always been honest about his work, shown us what he replaced and why, and if there were any problems after the fact he's always dealt with them, usually without additional charge. While his prices are more than some mechanics they are less than the dealership. He also orders and uses original parts from the dealers whenever he can. While this also adds to the cost it also means that the parts are made properly for the car and if it fails the parts dealer is responsible for a bad part. This has saved me money more than once. read more

Sam has been working on my cars since 1982 - that's 32 years! He is the most honest, conscientious, kind mechanic and human being ever. I've had an Audi, several Mercedes, Infiniti and an Isuzu and he ALWAYS kept them running well. EVERY time I've called him he's gotten right back to me. I've had some cars that needed work and before he fixed them I would get stranded. I would call and he would immediately and personally come fix the issue. AND he actually bought TWO of my cars from me and my husband when we decided it was time to sell them and drove them for years- an MBZ 240D and 300SD. What that says to me is that he took excellent care of them or he would never have bought them himself. I lived in Marin for 12 years and a couple of times needed to go to other mechanics. I didn't trust these mechanics and called him to be sure they were telling me the truth. It turned out that they were taking me for a ride and wanted to over charge me or fix something that didn't need fixing. If you're a woman it's not easy to find a mechanic you can trust, but you will ALWAYS be able to trust Sam, period. read more

Sam is highly knowledgeable, honest and friendly. He recently fixed the leak in the rear differential of my BMW. Sam performed a thorough diagnosis and explained the problem clearly. He worked with my extended warranty company, including sending them pictures and a detailed explanation to get their authorization, and took care of the repairs. Sam is incredibly talented automotive mechanic who does fantastic work at more than fair prices. My husband and I have taken our cars to him for over 22 years. As another reviewer noted, he's a degreed engineer who opted out of industry to start his own shop because he loves to work on cars. Six months ago, the handles on my front doors of my Range Rover were sticking in the open position and causing locking problems. Replacing the keying mechanism meant ordering a new part from the factory that would have been over $600. Sam took the mechanisms apart, cleaned and repaired them. He also taught me how to operate the handles so as not to cause the damage again. This month my trusty Ranger Rover (it has over 150,000 miles on it) started to act up on the way home. Sam diagnosed the problem, cautioned me not to get on freeway and guided me home. over the phone (after closing time by the way). I took the car to replace the alternator, and as usual he gave me a choice of new or remanufactured parts (when he deems them trustworthy) saving me considerable dollars. I wouldn't take a car to anyone else. Frankly, I don't believe the 1st reviewer had the experience they wrote up. read more
