We stopped in for lunch after the boat show. It was busy on a Saturday afternoon, but we were seated right away even without a reservation. We started with the pizza with Brussels sprouts and black truffle. So good. Perfect crust, amazing flavors. A sunny side up egg in the center opens up to make a yolky dip for the crust. This restaurant is delicious! We ordered the snapper on a bed of grains and cauliflower, the mushroom pizza with added truffle, and the shrimp caesar salad. Everything was brought out on time (took about 25-30 min). The food was tasty and fresh. The server was nice and attentive. The restaurant itself is very cool, it's decor is simple yet creative. They have a bar where you can also eat at and they share the space with a cafe that has a bunch of pastries. It is a bit pricey so be aware of that. We went here for lunch on a cold, rainy afternoon and left severely disappointed. While the food was decent and our server was attentive, whoever was at the entrance (the manager?) was downright rude. After being seated and placing our order, he walked up to us and asked in an arrogant tone if we had a reservation. He could have easily confirmed with our server instead. After finishing our meal, paying, and preparing to leave within a reasonable time (about an hour), he walked up to us again and asked if we were leaving now because other patrons were waiting. Do we know what MC stands for? I'm pretty sure it stands for Mouthwatering Cooking. At least, that's what I have experienced with each visit. I have now been there twice and really looking forward to that next visit. MC Kitchen is one classy place from beginning to end. The decor is elegant, yet warm and inviting. It's obvious right away that great care and attention to detail have gone into its interior design and branding. The light fixtures are gorgeous and the focal lighting that hits each table is a simple, yet genius touch: it puts the emphasis on what you are eating and takes the lighting off you. Although beautiful, I don't particularly love the velvet on the back booths (it just gets too hot) and for whatever reason, I sat in the same exact spot both times. I will definitively request a regular table next time. They have a private outside dining area that looks really cool and seems to be fun for bigger parties as well as a room for private dining facing their wine cellar. But, this is not about its decor, this is about the food isn't it? These are the items I have been fortunate to try: - Black Mission Fig Pizzetta: cippolini marmalade, parma prosciutto, fontina cheese, arugula, saba vinaigrette. SCRUMPTIOUS. I ate half but could have easily had this for dinner instead. So so so so so good. - Stone Oven Roasted Octopus: nero risotto forma, pancetta-sherry vinaigrette D E L I C I O U S! The nero risotto is just finger licking good. Next time I am asking for bread to finish scooping up its leftovers. Yes, I will! I don't care how it looks. - Artichoke*Heart*Bruschetta: farm poached egg, shaved truffles, creamy, parmigiano fonduta. HEARTY and dreamy. - Roasted Pear and Cheese Fiocchi: robiola, grana padano, ricotta, talleggio, white truffle cream. MMM MMM MMM exactly as it should be. I was also happy it wasn't 4 pieces only as I had initially expected. The portion was just right. - Rustichella d'Abbruzzo Paccheri: housemade spicy italian sausage, broccoli rabe, pickled onions, pecorino romano. GOOD - Bucatini Alla Carbonara: 63 degree farm egg, black pepper, creamy parmagiano sauce, guanciale powder BEST IN MIAMI and another one that deserves a plate sweep with bread. The egg sits on top just teasing you into breaking into it and swirling it around with the rest of the dish. It's an explosion of flavor bite after bite. So much so that I thought about this dish for days after I had it. - Spaghetti Misto di Pesce: manila clams, pei mussels, prawns, preserved meyer lemons, calabrian chili broth. WONDERFUL, this dish is simple and to the point but with superb ingredients. The broth was damn good too (although I wished there was more of it.) - Meyer Lemon Creme Brûlée: This was the only underwhelming dish out of all we've had. It was just OK. - Six Layer "Modern" Tiramisu: chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, zabaglione. GOOD, it's too bad I could barely fit in the couple of bites I had of it. During our first visit we requested our courses be spaced out so that we did not feel rushed. Our waiter came to ask us if we were ready to fire the main course and we gave the go ahead. He then came right out with them within seconds. Um, what if we had said no? Would they just have sat there? The whole point was to space it out, not have the food sit and wait for us. I am nitpicking. I know. I really love it there and I want them to be perfect. Ha! I get so excited when I find restaurants that kick a** in every category. Overall though, service was consistently good both times. They have a bar off to one side and it's designed so that you can access it from the inside of the restaurant or the "outside" area (which is really the inside atrium of the design building where it's located). I don't remember the wine list (we usually bring our own- $25 corkage fee). They do have an extensive amount of Dogfish on tap and also offer some crafted cocktails as well. I cannot wait to return time and time again and eat my way through the entire menu. The cavatelli and I have a date very very soon. P.S. This isn't a review of the food but rather a review of their lackluster service. A colleague from out of town was visiting and we were in the mood for some pasta. A waiter toppled over my glass of water resulting in the entire glass littering over my pants. Without saying anything, the waiter retreated, we were told to change tables, and a different waiter brought our food. No apologies, no concern was expressed. I was so embarrassed at this encounter. Except for the guy in the tight leopard skin type shorts sitting next to us, but then again it's Miami and how the hell is a fashion faux pas the fault of the restaurant. I even had a laphroaig that I have never tasted before and I was pretty sure I have tasted almost all of the bottles, at least once. After visiting MC Kitchen on Saturday after the Makers Market, I was full of regret. We were seated immediately, by the window, in probably the warmest spot in the restaurant on the hottest day ever. The menu had outstanding options. Everything sounded delicious. The truffle fries were great, they really were. Our kids ordered pizza and it was good, nice size. My friend and I shared the pear pasta and the tater tot waffle with the egg and truffle sauce. The pear pasta wasn't horrible, however it was under salted and I do not like salty food. Given it's an upscale restaurant, there are no salt/pepper shakers on the table. The tater tot waffle with the poached egg and cream sauce was so pretty, it really was. At first bite, eh. The tater tots had the frozen taste. Again, not even a pinch of salt. It was just bland. It was almost cold so it was not edible. We left more than half the waffle. You might be wondering why we didn't ask our server for salt/pepper. Well, he was nowhere to be found. Our table was full of empty plates. We had plates on each corner. We stacked our own plates. Water wasn't refilled. My friend received her Bloody Mary towards the end of the meal. The food came out at room temperature. It was, overall, an expensive and bad experience. If a restaurant could hit a Grand Slam, MC Kitchen did July 3rd, 2021! I would not adequately do justice by merely describing the fabulous dinner we consumed and prepared by Chef Freddy and staff. Nor would I be fair to the extraordinary waitstaff by saying they could do no wrong...they couldn't be faulted for being professionals at the top of their game! Thank you Raul for leading our table service. There is always a secret ingredient when all elements blend to deliver a memorable restaurant experience. So thank you to Brandy Colette for creating MC Kitchen in the Design District and for putting together a great management team - especially Dean D'alberto. The Octopus appetizer was delicious, accompanied by the Bibb Salad with Blue Cheese. We luxuriated with the Garganelli and the Spaghetti Misto as entrees. Dean recommended the Alexana winery's Pinot Noir as an accompaniment to our pastas and it paired perfectly. Being Napa snobs, taking a detour to the Williamette Valley Oregon grape was daring. If your a Kardashione (the family who is famous for being famous--I think), a famous athlete or otherwise drive a car that can exceed 200MPH or own a house that has a Proper Noun name, then this is your place. At one table I thought that it might have been Henry Kissinger and at another it might have been one of the Baldwin brothers. The lighting was dim, and this author occasionally that way too, perhaps they just looked like those people. Me--a part-polyester and pilled golf shirt, a pair of Costco jeans, has-been Adidas, Kramer-like hair, and some non-chic stubble. I truly had no business being here. The staff, went out of their way to not make me feel that way. They embraced me like the awkward kid down the block. They were so nice and professional. For Seinfeld fans-- recall the Jimmy episode. When I lamented that I wanted fries like I saw in the picture on my phone, they put in a special order. When the waiter said that it did not look as he wanted, they made it again. Wow! The fries were like no other--ever...never. They were perfectly seasoned and had a perfectly placed some cheese and unique oil. Cataplectic-good. The pork chop was expertly crusted and moist, generously sized-- but not obnoxiously so. The seasoning was a magical blend of sweet and little salt. I had always heard good things about MC Kitchen from a friend of mine, who considers himself a regular, but upon his incessant recommendations, I finally made it to MC Kitchen recently. My friend had recommended that I asked for one of the staff, Eric B, and sure enough, Eric B insured that my MC Kitchen experience was indeed, sublime. Erick was attentive, he was accommodating, he was knowledgeable about the menu, while also being the consummate host, which only added to the exceptional dinning experience. In regards to the restaurant, the ambience was blissful, and the food was deliciously delightful. MC KITCHEN needs better reviews on here. The food is ALWAYS good. I can imagine this place having a lower rating is because of the HIGH PRICES. But honestly, once in a while, this place is WORTH IT. Located in the design district, with $5 valet parking at the door. They always serve amazing complementary warm bread + olive oil. Hard to resist it. The truffle fries are amazing, and the serving is so generous, but $18 does seem a bit price for some fries with parmesan and truffle oil. The Branzino is my favorite dish in this menu. And their pastas are great too! In my opinion, their Pizza isn't anything special, so due to the rest fo amazing dishes they offer, is isn't worth it, You'd miss out! This used to be called Fratelli Lyon and is now a more elegant version but still the food is Italian so no mourning. I thoroughly enjoy dining here. I've been a few times always after an art show or to meet with a long lost boyfriend to catch up on our successes. It's a beautiful atmosphere and makes you feel in vogue with its perfect backdrop to a splendid and elegant affair. MC has an understated elegance and business atmosphere but you'll see kids in the dining room and dogs as well - that's kind of a quirky addition that only Miami could offer. Lights dim at dinner time around six and suddenly it becomes a more romantic atmosphere in the well appointed salon. The butterflies that were on the wall in the adjacent café are now on the wall in the main dining room lending a echo of the former restaurant. The cafe is still there at lunch- grab a delish cap and pastry. The menu here is elegant and thoughtfully designed though I hope they would add some alkaline or even vegan options that don't involve pasta. The delightfully funky names to their libations make it tempting if you can withstand the temptation of indulging in their extensive wine list. Sergio was deliciously Italian enough for me to flex il mio lingua and provided wonderful service to our table, as did all the staff who look like they are from a photo shoot. The worst experience EVER! I went yesterday with a group for a friends birthday, my husband and got arrived early so we sat at the bar outside to get drinks. It took ages for any of the bartenders to even look at us, eventually a manager asked us what we'd like to drink. My drink was gross so I politely asked for it to be changed, the bartender gave me the dirtiest look and eventually changed my drink. So the night already started off bad. We then moved to our table which was complete isolated from the rest of the restaurant (due to the table size i'm assuming) but since we were "hidden away" no one would come and service the table. Service was just awful, they were soooo slow and soooo inattentive. The guy forgot everyone's orders, took ages to bring anything, a single glass of wine would take a good half hour. The food itself was ok, not the best but not bad either. We then asked for our check which literally took about an hour. The guy forgot what everyone had ordered and came around each person asking so he could properly charge us and when he did, he over charged 3 people! My friend literally had an extra $260 charged to his card, how does that even happen? The lack of attention was ridiculous. Do not recommend and we won't be coming back.
