Baiocco is Excellent!!! Baiocco is truly an Italian cuisine staple. From the moment you walk in you feel like you just transported out to an of the beaten path restaurant somewhere in the outskirts of Rome. Everyone here was Italian including most of the people eating at the restaurant. I have been wanting to come here for a while until we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is charming and very cozy. You can feel the love and warmth of the people that work here. Attention is very noticeable and they were all very attentive and efficient. We had a few appetizers worth mentioning.The fried artichokes and also the rice croquettes... incredibly good . For main course we had pastas from their daily specials; pacchieri with tuna and also the linguini with mushrooms. This was the best pasta I've had in a long time. Fresh pasta and mushrooms... sauce was delicious. Light but packing a ton of flavor. The wine list is very good without being pretentious. Mango Panna cotta dessert was a highlight. This review is being written during the COVID-19 pandemic, so a few words about their safety measures. All staff wear masks, and tables are thoroughly cleaned between patrons. Menus are disposable, but no contactless menus available. Contactless payment also not available. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, and tables are quite close to each other - i.e. not 6 feet apart. The outdoor space is quite lovely, but there are no fans, and when we visited there mosquitoes, so bring some repellent if you don't want to ruin your experience. We started with a bottle of Falanghina. All wines are very fairly priced, and it's one of those places where it makes little sense to order just a glass. We ordered fried calamari, and it was exquisite. Perfect texture and impeccable execution, just the right crunchiness and just delicious. They bring bread to the table, slightly toasted, olive oil and balsamic. We continued with the arugula beet salad. Quite a unique concept, with a thick beet dressing drenching the peppery arugula, topped with tomatoes and feta. In my opinion it lacked a little acid, it would have benefited from some lemon juice. Our main was the bottarga clam pasta. The pasta was nicely cooked al dente, but in my opinion lacked umami. My companion found it oddly tasting and left it uneaten, but I munched away. What I realized, after finishing my portion, was that it left a very unpleasant metallic aftertaste. So, I would not recommend this dish. We finished the evening with a pistachio layered cake and espressos. The slice was humongous, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cake itself was very soft, the frosting very light and not too sweet. All in all a pleasant experience. The pasta was not to our taste, the outdoors would have benefitted from a few fans, and the indoor dining room was just a little too packed for comfort, but generally great food and ambiance. read more

Miami has some excellent restaurants. Baiocco a/k/a Osteria del Mare is newest and superior to the best I've had in town. The owner, Claudio, is not new to the business, having successfully opened Alta Mar in south beach over a decade ago. He brings the same winning formula for exceptional food and service to the northern Biscayne corridor and adds a hefty helping of ambience and atmosphere. This is my newest regional favorite. On entry, the space has a deja vu. Like stepping in to the home of a beloved relative; plaster walls decorated with cooking utensils, signs and posters memorializing Italian heritage. We were led to a table in the outside rear courtyard. Simple brick decking, cream colored umbrellas and strings of lights set a peaceful tone. Music, distant and subtle, neither interferes nor distracts. Servers are headlessly busy, but pleasant and available on the spot. Menus offer broad options but lack complication. A basket of fresh bread with chewy crust and a tasty, sweet balsamic to dunk. Starting with the fried artichokes, the tone is firmly set. Simple and delicious - no overpowering sauce, just a bit of olive oil, salt and lemon. Followed quickly by a large butter lettuce platter with cherry tomatoes and avocado in a light vinaigrette. Enough for 2. A whole fried snapper is served. Crispy skin cooked to golden and mysteriously seasoned over flaky white fish. Flying forks stabbing for prime ground as squeezed lemon sprays over; a second whole fish -pompano- filleted at table side and served with a light butter sauce that delicately compliments. Sadly, no photos of either fish! It was a case of attack and eat or watch and be hungry. A bowl of spaghetti appears soon after, dressed with fresh clams and a silky coating of olive oil. I've never experienced a perfect al dente before. So exact, I lament my inability to reproduce the precision in my kitchen. Closing out the meal, a fig and nut tart. Beautifully layered with a gentle sweetness and nutty crunch. Outstanding. Start to finish, dining is choreographed from an experienced history of perfection by Claudio who is cordial, charming, professional and most important, passionate about his food and service. Competitively and reasonably priced. This is Miami's finest gem, rivaling and rising above the rest of the more elite venues. Authentic & Rustic. I came to Baiocco for a casual dinner and had a wonderful time. The service here is very attentive and you are welcomed with much enthusiasm the moment you step in the door. Though parking may appear to be a hassle, there is a valet option available that is only tip. With a reservation already made in advance, we were quickly seated and attended to. Our waiter was a young man who patiently explained the specials of the evening and made note of the vegetarian request at our table. I was thoroughly impressed with the level of care taken to ensure our visit was great...this is something I wish I saw more at other restaurants. I also enjoyed the extensive wine list that allows flexibility with accordance to your dish. As for the food, we had the: Bread - cold, but sometimes that is common at restaurants. Mixed varieties of bread served. Went well with balsamic + olive oil, and my wine. Pappardelle al Pesto con Pistacchi - this dish sounds incredible, and it was indeed delicious. However, I found it to be a bit dry...potentially due to pappardelle being a more dry, egg pasta and coupled with pistachio. Gnudi di Spinaci e Ricotta - this dish was my favorite. I was a bit sad that the portion was slightly smaller than anticipated, in relation to the price, but that is mainly because it was so delicious. The tomato sauce was one of the best that I've had, packed with zest and notes of garlic. Torta Cioccolato e Pere - hmm, I would have to say that I was bit disappointed with this dessert. For $7, it was basically a layer of chocolate mousse on a graham cracker crust with one sliver of pear. It was a real letdown as I envisioned something totally different and when pear was mentioned, I thought it would be incorporated throughout the dish. Overall, I share some mixed feelings about Baiocco. Though the dishes were authentic and delicious, I feel for the price it may be a bit unbalanced, especially relative to portion-size. I do have to say that the hospitality of the restaurant was really excellent. As we were leaving, we were handed a small parting gift of freshly-baked cantucci. We were also offered a taste of one of their homemade baked goods. What would definitely bring me back here is the exceptional care the owner and staff go to making their guests welcome. read more

We had our recent date night at Osteria del Mare. I loved the concept of the restaurant being an old "MiMo" house revamped to a restaurant you would find in a small town of Italy. The atmosphere of the restaurant is exactly that. Parking was difficult for larger vehicles but we were able to park onsite. We were greeted by the owner and we were sat promptly. Our waitress was a doll. She told us about a few specials that they were offering. we review the menu and noted the large wine menu (wine & beer only). We ordered our beverages and picked the calamari and octopus for appetizers. The calamari fresh and was fried perfectly. The Octopus was prepared with potato causa, cream of Taggiasca olives.....delicious! Fresh bread was also served. There was a lovely olive oil and sweet balsamic vinegar on the table for the bread. I selected this restaurant when I saw the whole fried fish on the menu as this is my fiancé's favorite. They had a small (maybe 2 lb.) mangrove snapper for their fish that night. He ordered that with a roasted potato dish as a side. Although the snapper was small, it was prepared perfectly. I ordered the Spaghetti cacio e pepe. I was excited about the fresh pasta....in my opinion the pasta was heavier than I expected and the sauce was slightly to cheesy. It was super rich. We ordered the chocolate flourless cake for desert and it was delicious. This is a great place for an intimate dinner or celebration. read more

The food here is absolutely spectacular! I got the TONNARELLI CACIO E PEPE and it was divine. Definitely an excellent option for vegetarians. I was in Italy six month ago and this was the best pasta I've had since Italy. It tastes fairly authentic - which makes sense as the Chef is from Rome! I would recommend this place for the food alone. The service was slightly slow, however we were there on a busy day (Valentine's day) and they were slightly short staffed. My visit to Baiocco left me with mixed feelings, on one side the place is nice, not over-the-top nice but cute and interesting, service was above average, friendly, proactive and with a smile ( A rarity these days in Miami), But food was kind of bland and lacked flavor, the mixed salad lacked dressing, was completely dry and the ingredients were very simple, pastas and main courses were totally unimaginative and were not flavorful, the caccio e peppe pasta was overcooked and tasted like simply boiled pasta with unsavory cream, the branzino was rubbery and tasted like nothing, the other pasta dishes and the seared tuna I was told were ok, nothing spectacular but ok. Price range was as expected for this type of restaurant. All in all a nice experience but one lacking the punch in the flavors. We'll be back to give it another chance for sure. I had heard great things about their Stuffed Zucchini blossoms . I was surprised to learn that the chef who made those is no longer here and they've changed their entire menu. I definitely have come here again. This place is so quiet and romantic, amazing for an intimate date. We didn't really have any food here because we were on a waitlist for another restaurant but we did have their house wine! Super tasty! They bring out their assortment of breads with oil and vinegar. Also really good! The ambiance was the biggest takeaway for me because we didn't order any food, just wine. It's such a cozy spot for what seems like authentic Italian food. If you ever come to this restaurant and it seems peculiar that it looks like a house and it's extremely quiet, don't worry! You're in the right place! This place was the perfect romantic dinner location. They have a lovely outdoor area, and the inside is quaint and cozy. We sat outside on a not so busy Friday night. Service was a bit slow, but always with a smile, so it was hard to be mad. Once they brought the food out, wow! I was so impressed. I had the meatball appetizer and honestly it was the most delicious meatballs I'd had in a long time. We shared the lamb chops and roasted vegetables and everything was cooked perfectly and incredibly delicious and plentiful. Just spectacular. Here is the breakdown: Food I went there twice in a week and truly enjoy the pasta. The pappardelle all'antica was to die for. Definitely a must for those that enjoy meat and red sauce. Simply delicious. Not a big artichoke person, but truly well done there. The carbonara was amazing, very tasty and it didn't feel heavy after eating it. Baiocco is a delicate restaurant that is a little gem in Little Haiti. From parking to exit, the service was absolutely exceptional. The parking is valet and is tip only. Upon entering, the French waiter seated us and immediately brought us menus and read us the daily specials. As I had my reservation made on Open Table noting that I was a Vegetarian, the waiter made sure to address that and point out all of the dishes that I could enjoy. The service was quick and attentive- I was in and out in a little over an hour, which is extremely atypical at high quality restaurants around the Miami are. The Pinot Noir I ordered was a good sized pour and had a thin skin and delicate taste; it paired well with the light pastas I ordered. The PAPPARDELLE AL PESTO CON PISTACCHI was notably fresh, but I do wish it had more sauce to it to complement the thickness of the authentic Tuscan pasta. I also ordered the GNUDI DI SPINACI E RICOTTA, which came as 5 meatball sized rounds. It was blended well together, and posed as a very novel dish, as I've never came across it anywhere else. The tomato sauce that it was marinated in was the perfect combination of tangy and rich. However, I feel that the rounds themselves were slightly bland, and a touch of Italian herbs blended with it would've delivered stronger flavors. For dessert, the waitress recommended the TORTA CIOCCOLATO E PERE which is just simply, a small triangle of chocolate mousse on a graham crust with a single slice of juiced pear. The pear complemented the chocolate well, but my expectations for the dessert were higher. The dishes are priced on the higher side, but the experience was truly wonderful. Well done from start to finish. Complementary valet parking and greeted at the door by the owner. Nice wine list and the menu is not overloaded with numerous dishes . We selected two pasta dishes. The tale of Natalie's visit to Baiocco: I drove in to discover the place had complimentary valet. When I walked in the restaurant, I was greeted with a ciao and a handshake. I felt like I was in Italy! The hostess asked if I had a reservation when I arrived, and when I told her I hadn't, the hostess wasn't sure they had a spot for two people at the time I came! (P.S. Make sure to make a reservation when you come here)! Luckily they ended up making room for us. Complimentary bread: all served cold. Maybe I'm picky, but I prefer my bread warm!! The focaccia was super dry, and wasn't even good dipped in olive oil. The white bread in the basket was not bad, but nothing special. Rice balls: should be called rice ball instead, as the dish comes with only one fried ball. Ordered this item because I thought it would be a fun appetizer to share with my friend (oops). It came out quickly and was warm and yummy. Had tomatoes inside rather than being served in tomato sauce, which was something I wasn't used to for a fried rice ball. Dinner: Testaroli al Pesto con Pistacchi- was looking forward to this "old recipe Tuscan pasta", which my friend and I found to taste like soggy bread with a pistachio spread. Even though it sounds interesting, I would not recommend this dish. Gnudi di spinaci e ricotta- absolutely divine! I've never had anything so unique, and the spinach and ricotta cheese balls simply melted in my mouth. Even the tomato sauce the balls were in was exquisite. Dessert: my friend and I shared a classic tiramisu that was tasty but nothing special. We were also given a complimentary fried sweet rice ball with raisins and cinnamon (tasted like a ball of deep fried rice pudding) that came straight out of the fryer. As my friend and I were walking out of the restaurant, we were each handed a bag of cantucci (biscotti), which were delicious. I ended up eating all three cookies in my bag while waiting to get my car from valet, even though I was full from my dinner! Overall, I've definitely had better homemade pasta and Italian food than I did today at Baiocco, but was impressed with the authenticity of this restaurant- all of the service was Italian, and the owner of the restaurant owns other restaurants in Italy. Most importantly, I found the service at this restaurant to be superb, and loved all of the free treats I received at this place. I'd imagine this would be a great place for a romantic date night that isn't too pricey for the service you are getting! The reservation was made based on photos. Arrival was nice and the hostess was great, but the experience went down hill from there. The ambiance is ok, but the service was very poor. Aside from never refining the water or pouring the wine, it seemed like a lack of training. The gnocchi was ok. I ordered a pappardelle dish that came out improperly cooked and all stuck together. When i asked the waiter he took the dish and came back after to tell me they would make me a fettuccine instead. Very odd, like the chef gave up on the pappardelle. I said I'd rather change the order and he left again only to come back w the news that they would make the pappardelle again. When it came out the second time the sauce was runny.
