I gave him a friendship bracelet the last time we went, and he practically showered us in good service after that. If I'm missing pickles, he brings me 4 on a plate. If I'm contemplating cookies, he offers one for free to my partner. He's also offered my partner free arnold palmers before. I order take out from this deli occasionally on weekends. The quality is very hit or miss. The last time I took food home from the Preston Road location is was LITERALLY inedible. I had a half spud, which was not cooked through and gray, and a half sandwhich. The bread on the sandwich was burned on the outside and the inside was too mushy to eat due to so much mayonnaise. I had to throw it all out. The own needs to make an appearance and make some changes. There are too many other restaurants in the area and they can't continue this way. read more

We've been to several McAlister's and the food is consistently great, and this time was no exception. However, this review is more about the staff at this location. The manager, Nick, is such a ray of sunshine that we want to make this location a mainstay in our routine. He clearly takes pride of ownership of the restaurant and his role there and knows the menu back to back. More importantly, he's so authentically kind and bubbly, teasing the kids, making friendly banter, and even complimenting my handbag. I'm positive that people leave that place remembering how he made them feel, because we did! This location was bustling on a weekend afternoon and he was running back and forth between taking orders, checking on tables, and clearing the dining room, but he never seemed rushed. I was literally raised in the hospitality industry for the first 27 years of my life. The general rule of hospitality is this: Make sure the customer leaves happier than when they arrived. This particular McAlister's location on Preston Road in Plano, TX accomplishes this, and the reason all comes down to a single person: Nicholas. More on that in a moment. First, the food is consistently good. When you order something, it comes as expected, and it comes quickly, usually within just a couple of minutes of sitting down. And as a particular callout, if you're into fruit cups (my wife is), whoever this location sources their fruit through has got it on lock. Everything else is good too, but fruit cups can be tricky. No complaints on the food, at all. As for the restaurant itself, it's always clean and usually has some pretty good tunes playing in the background. You can pick a hightop, lowtop, or booth - whatever mood you're in, they've got them. Other than that, I'd say that it could use a bit more "localization" with some Plano or TX artifacts to make it a bit more welcoming, but it's fine. Now, about the manager, Nicholas... I'd hire this guy if I could. He makes you feel welcome the moment he sees you. He came out from the kitchen when he saw us arrive, gave us a fist bump welcome, and personally took our order. I don't think my wife and I are all THAT memorable, but he sure made it seem like he remembered us like we were part owners of the place. You just don't get that kind of feeling from restaurants these days. When we left, he held the door open for us. I have always loved McAlister's Deli and have enjoyed eating here across multiple cities and states. I always know wherever I go, I will always get the same great food I've come to love here. McAlister's has a wide variety of soups, sandwiches, salads, and we can't forget about their amazing huge spuds. I've been coming to this location for a couple of years now. The inside of the store is almost always clean, they also have lots of booths and separate tables to choose from. The food is great as usual, but the service has always been hit or miss. Some visits I get amazing staff. Other visits, I get staff who aren't helpful and who don't seem to care. On my most recent visit, the cashier refused to give me a receipt for my purchase because he said I was supposed to ask him for one before I paid. He said once I paid, my receipt disappears from his register and he can't retrieve it. I thought this sounded strange. But he told me if I wanted a receipt in the future that I have to ask before I pay. Anyhoo... I definitely recommend this location for a healthy, quick and delicious meal. Love coming here with the kids for lunch. I've tried almost everything on the menu and it is all delicious. The sweet tea is a must! Kids meals are 2.99 and come with a entre and side, plus a cookie. You order at the counter and receive a number that is placed on the table then the food is brought out to you. At this location the trash is picked up after you leave. I was working through my lunch and had to order from McAlister's for delivery. That where my coworker was going. I ordered the chicken and broccoli stuffed potato. The potato was so old. It was definitely a left over from yesterday. And it was stone cold. It was so over cooked that half of the potato stuck to the skin. Tonight my order was wrong, I ordered a Cobb salad and had a few substitutions and a different dressing. When we got it home, opened it up and there was no chicken, no black olives (I added) and I got a vinaigrette dressing instead of the Chipotle Ranch I ordered. The salad doesn't even come with this dressing, so I'm going to assume I probably got someone else's salad. My daughter's side of macaroni and cheese was more cheese the noodles and looked very soupy. I called their location to let them know, and my husband said it was not busy at all when he was there picking up the order... After I told the gentlemen who answered the phone what was wrong, he put me on hold, and after about 10 seconds hung up on me. Very poor experience, ordered some food while visiting a friend in the hospital in the area and when I arrived to his room half of the food was missing. I placed a call to address the situation which the manager confirmed my food was left out of the bag. Manager unable to offer a viable resolution and showed very little care to fix mistake. Regional manager reached out and also did not seem to care about the situation enough to follow through with promise. HITS and MISSES... I always take advantage of the "Choose 2" option so that I can try more than one item without committing to just one entree. HITS: I got the jalapeño turkey crunch sandwich and the chips were perfectly crunchy while the avocado was delightfully creamy. My sweet tea was perfect! Sweet but not too sweet, just how I like it. My fiancé for the desert pear lemonade and it was delicious! MISSES: The service left a lot to be desired. The cashier seemed a little distracted and didn't really seem to want to be there. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup with my sandwich and it was disastrous. It tasted like a block of Velteeva cheese was melted into some chicken broth and not in a good way. The "chicken" pieces were rubbery and tasted like they came out of a can. I've always loved McAlisters and it's always been really consistent everywhere. I usually get the same thing always. Choose 2 with a soup and sandwich plus a side of Mac n cheese. Well this location gave me soup in the regular container and my Mac n cheese in a condiment bowl. Significantly smaller than usual. When I asked my waitress why the small quantity, she said it's always one scoop, it's just in a different container. Even in this container though, it's not full. Usually the Mac n cheese is in the soup bowl and always at the brim. There is no way the quantity is the same. I am extremely disappointed and confused as to why they think this is the same portion size. Will not be coming back to this location and I definitely will be trying other McAlisters locations to see if anyone else is doing this. read more
