I moved back to Miami a few months ago after 5 years of being away, and a lot has changed. I did my research here on Yelp and saw that the reviews for McAllister were amazing, so i figured i'd try it out. I'm VERY particular about my hair, and am deathly afraid of someone F@#$ing it up, but this time i came in to get the Ombre technique done, and a trim. I was a few minutes early, and they took me in anyway. I was greeted by everyone with a smile, and the friendly receptionist escorted me to Joy, the senior stylist. She was AMAZING. She took her time with me, listened to what i wanted, and knew exactly what she was doing. She also answered all my questions about what everything was, the tecnique, terminology and what shampoo to use. She went above and beyond and we had great conversation. My mom and I got great mani/pedis today at McAllister Spa! After looking far and wide in South Beach for a high quality, "no-attitude," and reasonably priced place to 'get our nails did', I think we finally found it. From the moment I called the place to set up our appointments, I was greeted by warmth and hospitality--and when we arrived the place was super duper modern and nice on the inside with a genuine and friendly staff. And then of course, the quality of our manicures and pedicures were top notch- with a great color selection, very careful cuticle trimming, and precise polish application. Constance and Suzanne were wonderful with our nail services. Both my friend and I elected to get Gelish manicures and Moroccan Oil pedicures...they came out too fab!!! They were very sweet and helpful, had wonderful conversation and are highly skilled. You definitely get more than what you pay ;-) So, to break it down a lil more: **The spa is gorgeous!!! Very comfortable feel, easy to get to, not too busy- hate the assembly line spas. **Everyone at the spa was very helpful with information on bargain shopping around Miami, public transportation and places to go. Shout out to Mark (Creative Director) and Suzanne!! **It was great for getting just what you need in addition to services. This place was extremely awesome. My friend found it on Google and then I yelped it to read the reviews. They even had a special if you checked in here! Apparently it was the owner, William McAllister, that was at the front desk and he was so nice and welcoming - he took the time to ask if we needed anything and even told us newcomers to Miami if we wanted to use the Swoop transportation service they had in the area. (Too bad they never answered but it's OK.) I got the ultimate pedicure with Suzanne - she was so nice and did an awesome job. They offered us beverages as well. On their site it said it was $49 but we were charged $45! I don't know why but I was greatful anyway. They offer a bunch of services; it was beautiful and relaxing inside the spa and I wish I was able to partake in more services! Maybe next time I visit Miami. They even told us to go to Lincoln Rd. where a lot of shops and restaurants are! Good thing too because there was a lot to see that we probably would have missed! Excellent customer service and very reasonable pricing for SoBe. I got a Gilt City deal for a facial and I loved it. My skin feels so clean and smooth and after the facial the esthetician help me shop for products that would help me with my dry skin. McAllister Spa is a cozy & unique one-stop shop for all your pampering needs. I particularly went there to work with one stylist whose business card had pulled me with curiosity... I had a wonderful experience with Dyann Michele! She was very patient, kind, accommodating and skilled. I felt safe with her, and for me personally it hasn't always been easy to completely trust someone with my hair. I'm not one to write bad reviews, but the nail service at this salon deserves one. I was referred by a friend and decided to try this place. First off, parking is a mess. If the 2 spots in front of the salon are taken, there is a gravel lot in the back to park in - if you have a small (non-SUV) sports car, forget parking here since it's on a huge incline and it's all gravel. Next, the nail room of the salon is a joke. The chairs you sit on are ripped and stained with nail polish. The table used for manicures is one long table, so if the person next to you is getting their nails filed while yours are being painted, the entire table is shaking! And on top of that, this table is only 1.5 feet wide, so your knees are constantly hitting the manicurists knees/legs. What poor planning and it's definitely not relaxing! Finally, the manicurist I had did not to a good job on a simple manicure. She filed my nails all different lengths, and I had to one by one show her every fingernail so that she could correct this, and in the process all the length of my nails disappeared. And the nail clipper she was going to use was rusted... Moreover, 2 manicurists were having a personal conversation as I was getting my nails done that was extremely loud and totally unprofessional. Also, for gel manicures, their nail polish color selection is lacking. Other salons have at least 3 times the choice of colors that they have :/ The only plus about this place is the staff are friendly and they have lots of open appointments. I bought a Gilt voucher for a Soy Mani/Pedi last week and called to yesterday to make an appointment; to my surprise, they could accommodate me that evening! And they're open late (7pm, 8pm, or 9pm depending on the day) which made it very convenient. Marlene took care of me. She did a great job and listened to exactly what I wanted. Only downside is that the voucher I bought was for the soy mani/pedi and I definitely didn't that service judging by the description listed on the website. It seems I got the classic. I've had my fair share of terrible haircuts (sphinx-like lop offs, uneven ends, boxy layers-- you name it!) Trish has never let me down. She always listens to what I want (although, at this point, I let her do whatever she thinks is best), and delivers a cut I love time and time again. The McAllister Spa was oh so conveniently located to the hotel where I was staying in South Beach, the Mondrian. I was itching for a Swedish massage and was psyched to see the positive reviews on Yelp. They were right! My massage was one of the best I've had (and I get massages often here in NYC). I felt like a new person after the hour-long session. I also had a mani and it's still chip-free after a full week, which is virtually unheard of. The service was super friendly and not the least bit pretentious, as some spas can be. The pricing was also very reasonable ($99 for a one-hour massage, which is at least $20/30 less than a comparable spot in Manhattan). I'm only taking off one star because the spa was insanely freezing cold, which was unpleasant during the massage and mani. But otherwise, I'm a fan and would highly recommend McAllister. read more

I had a facial at this establishment because i wanted to try a new place for a facial and it was close to my office. I read the reviews on Yelp and decided to go with it. I had a great facial with Marlene, she was very nice and my skin looked really good after the facial. The place is a small house on Alton Rd converted into this spa. They used to be located at The Flamingo but i never used them before. The spa is small but well appointed. Very clean, good and friendly customer service, has parking which is very rare for Miami Beach, reasonable prices and a wide array of services. Marlene was my facialist and she knows her stuff. The facial was very relaxing and i never felt rushed. I am going to keep coming to see her. Did not try any of their other services but i may book a massage next time. I like. read more

Eddie A. is the best hair stylist I've ever had. Hands down. His haircuts are amazing and he is equally talented with color. I have never had more compliments on my hair than I have had since Eddie became my stylist. He completely transformed my look and I now have the kind of hairstyle where people stop me and ask who does my hair. I wasn't afraid to go from a longer style to a pixie style, even though I have very fine hair, because he does EXACTLY what you ask him to and isn't the kind of stylist that does what THEY think you want. Make an appointment with him-you won't be disappointed. He is truly a artist and takes more time with a haircut to ensure it is perfect...whether you are male or female. My friend and I were on vacation in Miami in October and I found this place doing a random google search. I'm glad we went here because the staff was so nice and welcoming!! It had been storming (hello Hurricane Sandy) during our few days there and got absolutely no tan so we found a deal for a tanning session. It was my first time using a tanning bed and the owner(?) was there and explained how to use it. He was so nice! Afterwards my friend and I each got pedicures and the ladies who did our nails were amazing. Customer service at this place was superb and I would definitely go back the next time I go back to Miami. I will not be going back here. I went to get a manicure and a pedicure after being referred by a friend. The place itself was cute and the staff was very friendly. However, my services were horrible. My technician was training another girl and also the receptionist would come in and show her things on her cell phone and they would get distracted for a few minutes during the services. I got a gel manicure and after we had finished, I accidentally touched my nails and they weren't dry. They were completely gummy. That is not what is supposed to happen after a gel manicure. I told her they weren't dry so she did one more cycle of the LED lamp (which seemed like an unusually short cycle to begin with). I should also mention she cut my fingers three times during the cuticle removal. After the manicure, she wiped my nails off with something and whatever it was, it completely took away any shine that remained, so they were now matte and dull. I said to her that the shine is gone and I don't know what happened? She responded by asking if I liked the color and did I want her to take it off and do a new color? I said no it's fine and moved on to the pedicure. I did not want to sit there while my nails were redone by the same technician. The pedicure went smoother than the manicure and all appeared fine, though a few times again, it felt like she went too deep with her cuticle cutting and using the tool to push back the cuticles. She was a little rough. But she painted the nails well. This morning however, my big toe is swollen and in pain and I have no doubt it is a result from either the cuticle cutting or just the scraping of my toe nail. I didn't say anything when I left the spa because I was embarrassed to say it in front of the four people standing at the checkout, but my services were awful and it was a complete waste of money given that my fingernails look dull and now my big toe is in pain. I won't be going back here and will stick to my usual South Beach places. In their defense, my friends that have gone there have only gone at night and they have always had wonderful service. read more

I'm not sure a bachelorette weekend would be complete without some sort of spa activity. McAllister came highly recommended to us (by Yelp!), so we settled on this place as the location to complete our spa activities. The spa is cute. It's a converted house, and it's on the small-ish side. But somehow they figured out a way to fit in a salon, a nail room, and a serene massage room. I booked myself the ultimate pedicure, and it was very nice indeed. Their polish selection was amazing--they carried what seemed to be the entire essie line! I have never seen so many colors at a salon! Renee did a fantastic job, and my feet have never been so soft. Other ladies got facials and massages, and they were quite pleased with their treatments. What was really cool was once we said we were visiting for a bachelorette party, the recommendations for restaurants and activities started flowing. There were 3 people who were happy to tell us where to go and what to eat, and by the time we figured out we should probably start writing things down--someone already had done so! So I came across an ancient Panico gift card and via Yelp was able to track down the former manager who now runs McAllister Spa. He was kind enough to honor it although he clearly didn't have to. The Spa is beautiful and free parking in the front and back is a plus, that's if you can find a spot. Lara, who did my color was fantastic. I can tell she knows her stuff; she asked me questions that no other colorist/ stylist has ever asked me before. She did a great job covering my roots and matching my color. They also use Goldwell which is one of the higher quality salon colors. My mom who was getting a shampoo and blow dry threw a bit of a fit because the style wasn't to her liking. Since her English is very broken, there was a language barrier. Hell, even in German I couldn't figure out what she was really asking. Like many women, I am super picky about who touches my hair, after all a woman's hair makes her feel feminine and beautiful. My entire life I've been very modest about changing my look and I've always received many compliments on my long locks. Since moving to Miami Beach in '07 I've been going to Mark, generally once or twice a year (I told you I'm 'conservative' lol) and always keeping it with very modest updates; keeping the length as long as possible, generally maintaining the popular Brazilian "V" shape on the back, and only applying a gloss for shine. But after looking at myself in the mirror and seeing the same ol' thing for so many years I had decided it was time for a BIG change. I went to their site and booked several services: cut, color, highlight, and curls, nearly half a day of hair services. I wasn't exactly sure what color, what cut I would get but I know Mark is highly talented, a little wild, and would help me decide. The morning of my appointment Mark looks at me and with a knowing look he said, "girl, you booked 5 hours in the chair....don't tell me you've changed your mind and are coming in for a trim". Laughing I said, "Nope, I'm here for a full transformation!". I showed him a picture of the new base color I wanted, plus one of the highlights I was looking for as well as some curls. I have dark brown hair and it is slightly wavy (mostly straight) and I wanted to encourage the waves, either with the perfect hair cut or getting it permed (yes I said PERM which a lot of people will think it's nuts). I told him, "I want surfer beach hair." We worked together to achieve my new look and knowing Mark's skills I trusted him to take me where I was imagining I wanted to go. As the day went on, and layers of color was put on and washed off, put on and washed off. The people in the salon kept looking at me with their mouths open like "oh my god! that is drastic! it looks amazing!" I didn't have the courage to look plus I wanted the element of total surprise until it was time for the blowdry (I know, pretty nutty bananas). Yes, that is a lot of trust in a stylist but like I said, Mark just has a gift. In the end he chose the most perfect blonde for my skin color, he cut my hair so perfectly I can see how it has encouraged my natural curls, and we tinted my eyebrows lighter to go with the new hair color (no need for the perm now). It's been two weeks since my transformation and everyone I run into in town who sees me for the first time as a blonde says they LOVE IT and what's most important they comment on how I have the perfect shade of blonde that goes with me - that it looks so natural like I've always been this way. Now THAT'S exactly the response I was hoping to get. Mark selected it just for me, he played with the shading of the highlights (I actually had balayage done) so that it came out super natural, and as my hair grows at the root, it will blend with the color uniformly. I. LOVE. IT! I've always wanted to be blonde but never thought I could be because I'm dark skinned, and now I'm not sure I'll ever go back to dark hair. Thank you Mark!!!! The employees are extremely kind and personable. I think my color is better than it was when I arrived, without a doubt. For that I am grateful! However, there are a few color issues in the front after careful examination, that look rather odd/brassy and need to be fixed. It pains me to right a negative review because I genuinely liked my colorist! However, I think it is imperative to share this so that this doesn't happen to someone else who has hair like mine. I do not recommend going to this salon if you have curly AA hair (based on my experience). It was my first time, and I was matched with a senior colorist who confessed to not knowing what to do with my hair (after I specifically stated on the phone that I need someone who knows how to do AA curly hair). I was also charged more for my service - the explanation was my hair texture... All I know is that in NYC I would never be penalized for my hair texture - after all, I was born that way... Another great way to discourage Women of Color to go to your salon. At the end of the wash out, I had to style my own hair because they didn't know what to do with my "type" of hair. So, I paid almost $300 to style my own hair. On top of that, my hair was pulled, I was hit by the spiked brush many times, and I was burned by the blow dryer in the beginning (before we started the entire color experience) ... It was all a bit painful. When it was time to comb out my hair, it was not done properly - AA hair should be combed out from ends to roots and you should really be more gentle with textured hair. I color my hair frequently and after we were finished my curl pattern was absolutely destroyed (much worst than I have ever seen). I am not pleased and if the color was flawless I could trick myself info saying it will all be okay, but because I need to invest more $$ to fix the front and repair my hair, I am disappointed. read more

I have wavy hair, and believe it or not but wavy hair isn't for just any stylist's scissors. I went to some of the most posh and overpriced celebrity stylists in Miami, and nothing worked. After years of being unhappy with my haircuts (and emptying my pockets on frompy tresses) I was able to finally land in Mark's seat. He took a look at me and told me he profiled me the second I walked in. He already knew his general game-plan. I walked in with my hair loose and natural, I was wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. My face was shamelessly make-up-less. He told me he knew he had to give me a low-maintenance cut. YES. I rarely touch the blow dryer or any other styling tool. My hair was doing this weird, ugly, shelf layer thing. He warned me he was going to have to take quite some hair off to fix it. Cool. He dry cut my hair (it was my first time I was a bit nervous), then washed it and touched up the ends. WOW. I haven't been this happy with my hair in ages. It dries so beautifully and my waves are falling in all the right places. I have been getting a ton of compliments, even my boyfriend who is super picky about hairstylists (his hair is hard to cut as well) wants to go to him. Since the girl who usually does my hair moved to Hawaii I decided to give it a try . Eddie did my highlights and man did I love the way my hair looks. It's very natural which I love and it didn't take long. I loved that he took charge and gave me great advice on whether to do low lights or highlights. I first stumbled upon this salon because I needed to get a manicure for a last minute interview. I was so surprised that they were able to work me in on a Sunday afternoon. The manicure came out great and I was very grateful they made it happen because other salons were either closed or couldn't accommodate me. The layout is a very cute transformed house. It's clean and feels cozy. Everyone who works there is also very nice. I've since then gone back several times and worked with three different people, all of whom have done a great job. $95 for a cut and blowout and I have long wavy hair. When I booked my appointment, I specifically asked NOT to get a blowout (just a cut is $55) but Hernand was too caught up in his conversation about Debi Mazur and his good ole days in New York that he cut my hair and blew it out. Had I known it was going to be $45 additional I would have happily blown it out myself. Granted, IT CAME OUT PERFECT!!!! I came in with pictures. He looked, listened and was able to trim the length yet blend the layers perfectly framing my face. I'm going to milk this blowout for as long as I could. TIP: amazing cut for $55 if you skip the blowout. I'm still on the hunt for a hair stylist that I can feel confident enough after 1 month post cut to want to go back to again. I had an amazing experience at this salon, Eddie transformed my long, terribly gone wrong hair cut and bad highlights to a sea of white gold...ok sounds cheesy...but I was surprised. 1. I was scared to even go to a new person after the last new person in Los Angeles cut and colored my hair. 2. I was looking for a salon that could stand next to the Chris McMillan Salon in L.A. 3. I had 5 different ideas I wanted done, and none of my photos were exactly what I was wanting- but all mixed together they made sense to me..haha Eddie's words "your a tough cookie". I had a vision... And so did he. We talked it through, and he wouldn't start on my hair until we both were on the same page. My long hair was dragging me down, the ends were rusty and dead, and I wanted something sexy, cute, with a lot of movement and not the same old trim with highlights. My before was bad...I had hair in the front cut to my chin and the rest of my hair was to my waist...did not makes sense and looked like two different cuts on one head. He blended the front "long bang like thing" into some nice layers to be a part of my long hair, he brought down my new growth and added beautiful blonde at the bottom like white sand on a beach. The cut is what made my hair, the movement and style is fun, fresh, and sexy just like I wanted. I loved my long hair, but sometimes a little sacrifice for the hair to be healthy later on is worth it. Go see Eddie and don't be afraid of change. He will make sure you look your best... I've never been a person to have a consistent hair dresser because I've never had anyone I LOVED. Well I've found one! EDDIE! He's the absolute best I come to him with just an idea and he always creates it exactly as I like! The color and cuts are perfectly done and so affordable especially for Miami beach! I have unusually thick hair and to get my hair colored is usually 1000 plus and usually half assed. He has never had me leaving the salon with anything less than amazing. I proceeded by booking my very first appointment last minute, I know, not nice but I was leaving town in just a few days. Lo and behold, they were able to accommodate me for that Sunday! I could not believe it, as my last salon silently required a minimum of scheduling 5 days in advance. I had a gel manicure, ultimate pedicure, eyebrow shaping, and full bikini wax done. My manicurist was a gregarious blonde woman from Moldova. Embarrassing that I can recall the former Soviet Union country she was from, but not her name. She made my first gel manicure experience a delight, not to mention it lasted a whole 21 days as advertised! On to the dreadful bikini wax... Let me begin by stating that I am a former laser hair removal patient, with a total of 6 sessions and 0 touch ups to follow. It was only a matter of time, 1 1/2 years to be exact, that my dreaded pubic hair would return to haunt me. Ohhh, and it did! Instead of waxing as soon the first signs of return from Cousin It, I took to a razor. It was the worst decision ever! Now that you are informed as to my :::cough:::: situation, let's get back to the dreaded bikini wax... It was the first time I had a full wax in year(s) and may as well been my last had it not been for my long waxing history prior to my visit at McAllister. Maybe it was me? Maybe it was the newly employed wax specialist? Maybe it was both? Whichever it was, it was a nightmare! One full hour of self mutilation on my dime! In her defense, she was very kind and tried her very best to make it a soothing experience, kind of like a bad break up. So you may be thinking to yourself, why did this masochist rate McAllister 4 stars? My recommendation was for Susan, and well, Susan is so good she's off Sundays and Mondays because she can. Though my waxing experience would frighten any woman to never wax again, I had something of a brillow pad that may have been the very variable that made it such a painful experience. And so, I gathered all the little bit of bravery left in me and returned to McAllister to follow up with my original recommendation of waxing with Susan. Boy did it make my last experience feel like a walk in the park! She was kind, quick, and effective. And well, I've been coming to her ever since! read more

JUST HAD THE BEST FACIAL EVER TODAY BY CONSTANCE!!!!!!!!!! I have had my skincare license for over 10 years so I've had my fair share of facials over the years and know who's a rookie or not...... my usual go-to in Miami for facials moved locations so i decided to try out someone new because I needed a couple areas worked on. I can say, hands down, that was the best facial I've ever had AND she used my favorite products that she recommended (with out me telling her I use that line of products already). I don't write reviews very often but there's so many salons and spas in Miami that it's hard to find someone legit. ASK FOR CONSTANCE! I even got a back and neck massage included and the hour went by way too fast! She has me as a new client FOR SURE! I knew about this salon because I get my hair cut by Yulia there! So if you want the works, you really should ask for Yulia for any hair needs!!! PS: It's a SUPER CUTE salon and spa that has parking in the front and back right on Alton Road- and I love that it doesn't have the typical South Beach feel to it..... it's like a big house n cozy! I've been coming here for years. McCallisters, located on 13th and Alton road is like a hidden gem in the middle of the bustle of south beach that I'm so lucky to have found. It is like you are right at home, which seems unlikely in the middle of one of the worlds biggest tourist destinations. There is plenty of parking in the front and the back. Now onto the important part, the hair. If you are a highlighted blonde, and don't want to look streaky or chunky, go to EDDIE!! Also, let me mention that he does not leave the "shadow" he goes over the same previous pieces. He takes care of the details around your face frame like the real artist he is. Also, his CUTS are just perfect. You leave eddies chair feeling glamorous. Additionally, Eddie is a total one stop shop because he threads your eyebrows like a total artist and leaves mine thick like I want them. :) enjoy!! read more
