I didn't know Lodi had wine! We stopped in Lodi off the 5 for lunch. First time in Lodi, usually a drive through. Well, we found a great downtown area with shops, restaurants, and wineries! McCay Cellars was on Yelp with great reviews so we had to go! Really nice tasting room, lots of seating around or you can stand at the bar. Lots of room. We did one tasting and shared since one of us had to drive all the way home back to the OC. Great team pouring and telling us about their wines. We took a few bottles home. Loved the Rose! Nice winery in town. Secluded spot with a fountain for ambiance outside. The wines are very good. Our favorites were the Petit Syrah and the Faith Zinfandel. Free tasting with a bottle purchase. Great place to visit. I would recommend a stop here on your trip to Lodi. read more

We love this place! The young lady who serviced us, forgot her name (maybe Ashley) but she put on a great presentation and their wines are excellent! We had 5 tastings, we purchased 4 out of 5 which waived the $15 per person tasting fee. They also have snacks to purchase and they have knives and cutting boards to also enjoy with the wine. Just a very cool spot and we will be back! read more

Sadly, not impressed. I really enjoy wine tasting, so much so that I make it a point to travel to different cities regularly to try out different places. what I look for is yummy wine but more importantly, great service. We stopped in on a whim because it was recommend by someone at a prior tasting room. I was impressed with the decor and feel of the inside. We were not greeted and the young lady pouring the wine sort of stood there and just poured the wine. There was no conversation and no explanations of the wines, it was a turn off to be honest. It was close to closing time (45 mins) and we felt a little rushed. We tried 2 wines, paid, and left without getting the remainder of our pours. I am not opposed to trying more of their wine, but this wouldn't be my first option. read more

Although McCay is a drive to get to from the Lodi area the winery is super cute and they have an expresso bar! Wine is always good. Cab Franc is our favorite.... Take a drive out it's worth it and you won't be disappointed!! read more

We really enjoy McCay. They have great variety of wines . Wine for everyone's pallet. They also have great cheese and sweet pairings and serve great charcuterie board(s). We also enjoy Thursday's summer music and wine in the early evenings. Great way to unwind from a busy work week. Shout out to Cindy and Ashely in the tasting room are both knowledgeable and super friendly. read more

A rustic, yet modern tasting room in downtown Lodi. McCay has a large catalog of wines ranging from Grenache Blanc to Cabernet Franc; quite a variety of wines that are wonderful. Some favorites were the 2013 Faith Zinfandel is wonderful; light and fruity. The 2013 Jupiter Zinfandel is both fruity and spicy with rounded tannins and is excellent. I had the pleasure of tasting about 16 of their wines and it was hard to find one I didn't like. McCay Cellars is a great stop while in Lodi. read more

Love everything here. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. You receive your bottle water to hydrate and get generous tastings.. don't forget to try what's in the barrel for futures. They have several wine club options which is great for every consumer. The wine pairing events are fun so stay tuned for those. read more

We got a little lost going here- but found it eventually. When you see the gravel quarry, turn right immediately after! This place is right next door to it. Our Garmin thought it was further down the road. The wines were all very tasty. I tried the 5 zins. My favorite was the Jupiter. My husband loved the cab franc, though, so that's what we got. All the wines were tasty here. There were some varieties here I do not remember tasting before. The gentleman pouring was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We had a great time. There is a lot of space here. There were two picnic tables, inside, a patio table with comfortable chairs, a bar area with somewhat uncomfortable metal stools, and a couch area. I will definitely come back here. It's rare to find so many delicious different wines under one roof- usually I only like one or two wines. Here I liked almost everything I tried (the first zin (faith?) was a little to acidic for me). read more

McCay Cellars is not a typical Lodi winery. Tucked into the back of an industrial strip mall, their tasting room is more typical of a funky new microbrewery. Do not let looks deceive, if you can find them, this is a great place to stop. A small sign indicates which non-descript door to enter. The tasting room is large and eclectic with a giant parachute and various picnic tables and artwork. You get a five-for-five with purchase refund, but they have a large list of wines to sample. They have some unique wines available, heavy on the Zin as your would expect. I really enjoyed the Lodi Native which had a different take on Zin, working with other wineries to revive the classic tastes. This is not a typical Lodi wine experience, but I really recommend stopping by if you enjoy seeking out something different. read more

My wife and I travel to Lodi frequently for a weekend getaway and love all the great wineries that Lodi has to offer and McCay Cellars is truly one of our favorites. It's a little hard to find and not a typical winery location (it's an industrial building) but once found and once inside truly an amazing hidden gem. It's well decorated with tons of wine barrel art, furniture etc...but has plenty of seating areas for people to chill out and relax. Plus they do have a limited cold case with some cheeses, Italian meats and other items. Unlike most wineries were it's an oyster cracker or plain almond. For my wife and I the the true best part of this winery is Alan....this guy is what makes this place so great. Not that they don't have other great and friendly employees but Alan is the real deal. Every time we come back it's like we never left. He is so welcoming and friendly to everyone. Plus his knowledge of the wines and the wine business in Lodi is amazing. Plus the fact that he is just a plain cool dude all the way around. Last year I took my whole leadership team here for wine tasting and a few folks claimed "we aren't wine drinkers" well by the end of the time spent everyone was a wine drinker. That's because Alan listened to what there likes and dislikes about wine and only poured them what they liked about wine and truly catered to their needs. He does this because not only does he listen intently to what customers want but his overall knowledge of the wine drives home the experience. Well this isn't just about my man crush on Alan...LOL their wines are amazing and the true care the vintner puts into these comes out in every taste and glass of this great wine. Our favorite is their Zinfandels they are are all old and ancient vine some as old as 108 years. We aren't fans of jammy wines and these zins are so smooth and full flavored. Recently our daughter was married here locally and lucky for us McCay was one of the choices. Everyone at the wedding raved at how much they loved their Chardonnay and Cabernet and you won't get any complaints from me. I am not a white wine drinker usually but their Chardonnay is about the only one I enjoy. Plus what else puts this place over the top for me is the owner is a huge SF Giants fan and SF 49ers so cool memorabilia around as well. So perfect fit for me....great wines, great people and representing the right side of the Bay. If you are in Lodi doing wine tasting and you don't come here then you have truly missed out. read more

Mike makes some beautiful natively fermented wines; his 15 cab franc and Lodi Native are my favorites. Alan, Gina, and the rest of the staff have always been extremely friendly and accommodating. The new location downtown has turned out very nice and is a fun place to hang out and drink good wine. read more

The service here is always superb, the tasting room staff are friendly and attentive; your glass is never empty. I love them even more now that they are in downtown lodi. The tasting room is open and airy, they have a great variety of indoor and outdoor seating. Their wine is some of my favorite in the Lodi area. Definitely try the cab franc, if available for tasting. If not buy the bottle, you won't regret it. read more

One star for 1 server, Ashley. Otherwise, This was the worst wine tasting experience. The Manager Cindy, was unfriendly, frazzeled, rude, and under-staffed. We were sat outside. A large group of 30 placed indoors (unmasked). We were forgotten, I went indoors (with my glass) and she said, "put my mask on" I replied, "no one else was wearing a mask" I felt unwelcome and will never return. read more

Great wine. Made a reservation and the service was not great. Showed up to the table with open bottles and didn't let us taste the bottles we were obligated to buy. Had a sign that said 4 bottles for $75 and told us it was no longer offered (false advertising) so that bummed us out. Great wine though. read more

I love the new tasting room located in downtown Lodi. Great patio and great prices on wines. You can stay downtown and walk to the tasting room. They have cheese and salami for sale to enjoy with their large selection of wines. A must visit local winery! read more

My husband and I happened upon this winery on our last trip through Lodi a few months ago. We were hooked and my husband bought a case of futures. Our return this weekend was another great experience. Super friendly staff and delicious wines at reasonable prices. It's in a business center, a little out of the way but worth the visit! read more

Very cool, chill, laid back winery that embraces Lodi. The winery has a slight hippy/new school vibe that is a very refreshing change of pace. The inside design has quite a bit of thought put into it with nuances of Lodi every where. After your first sip of McCay wine you quickly and completely forget that moments ago you entered an industrial building. Have been here more than once and have always been treated very well. Wines are top notch in the moderate to high price range for Lodi wines. Very yummy all around though. Kudos McCay Cellars for pulling off a job very well done! Wineries like these are what are helping bring Lodi wines to the next level! read more

Had a great time tasting at McCay. This was my first ever experience in Lodi, and I'm happy I went to McCays. The wines were great-- although the tasting room was pretty chilly, and unfortunately I think the wines were a bit too chilly (thanks, nature) because of it-- so I don't know if I was able to taste how truly great the wines were. However, would recommend checking this place out. A great atmosphere-- we got to taste the wines on the list plus more, and even got TWO tastes out of a barrel. Our pourer (I'm sad that I didn't catch his name) gave us a bottle of water and some delicious cheese along with our wine. Once I discovered that I could warm the wine up a bit with my hand on the glass, I realized the wines here were pretty great. Definitely a great place to go if you're looking for a variety of zins. The room is in a warehouse that seems to be in the middle of nowhere, but when you go inside, the atmosphere is warm (despite the cold temperature outside) and the decorations are pretty fun and very "lodi" read more

The tasting room was awesome... great ambiance, plenty of room to sit. Went in without any expectations and was pleasantly surprised by the number of great wines they had for sample. I love McCay wine. I first tried their wine at a random tasting place in downtown Lodi ever since then I've been a club member. Every time I'm in town I make sure to swing by and pick up a few bottles. I love the reds (Equity, Trulux, Jupiter) but their white wines are also very well balanced. I highly recommend McCay Cellars. read more

The inside of this place looks super cute and welcoming and you would have never known from the outside... the wine is average and the customer service wasn't the best... my expectations were to high I guess... my expectation was to get served and with every tasting I would be informed about what I'm tasting and where it came from etc etc... you know.. a typical tasting...this place wasn't the case... we sat down and after 2 pours we realized that we're sitting down drinking a glass of wine and wondering what we were doing there.. so we paid and walked out and they didn't even realize we didn't do our entire flight... this place was cute but I wouldn't come back for the wine or service. read more

Well, I walked in saying I didn't like white wines and Mike McCay said "yes you will". I'm glad he said that and poured me a glass. I loved every single wine I tasted there today and the atmosphere and people were great too!! Not an area where you'd think you'd find a winery, but I'm glad we turned around and decided to try it. Rhone wines are the best I have enjoyed, well crafted with great skill. The tasting room is comfortable, fun and artistic. Walking in, I felt quite comfortable and impressed with the space and design. Allan behind the wine bar is personable, knowledgeable and passionate which I appreciate! Loved the new digs! On Sacramento St right next to the train station. The industrial vibe continues, and it looks to be a wonderful spot to taste, sit outside and enjoy when all the areas are finished. Great walking distance from downtown. Their zins made me come in ( having had them first years ago at Wine and Roses), but don't overlook their whites and rose. Awesome additional tasting room to Lodi. I am not a big wine drinker; I am more of a whiskey girl but I had one of the best wine tasting experiences EVER at McCay winery a couple weeks ago! My coworker/close friend is a member of this winery. He invited me to join him on the Wine Club event on Oct 29th. The outside of the tasting room looks like an industrial area but as soon as you got inside, the decoration, the display of the wine and especially the services were beyond amazing. All of the ladies who work there were so knowledgeable, friendly, sweet, and welcoming. They are also so beautiful!!! Alan, the manger, was so friendly and adorable!! We tasted several wines and then, drove over to the warehouse/winery where wine was made. Michael gave us a long and very educational talk about wine. He patiently answered all of our questions. You can tell how much he truthfully loves wine and his job. Delicious wines and foods were served during this time and that made the experience more special! We then drove back to the tasting room and tried more wine and snacks and learned more about McCay wines. We also made new and wonderful friends. I ended up purchase a case of wine. When i shared the wine with my sister, she fell in love with it. We are planning to come back for another wine tasting. I am going to share my wine with family members and close friends so they can be introduced to McCay wine. Lodi is a nice area and McCay winery is so worth the long ride to visit. Hope you will enjoy your experience as much as I did. Beside enjoy good wines, it's nice to be able to support small business like McCay!!! read more

Their wine tasting flights rotate every month so make sure to be on the lookout for that. If you buy a bottle of wine after your tasting, the tasting fee is waived. Denise was the person who helped us and she was extremely friendly and welcoming. Another worker (I didn't catch her name) but she was also very kind to us and our dog. We sat outside & they kept checking on us and making sure our glasses were filled during our fasting. No reservations needed! Walk-ins welcomed & you can also order by the glass. And as a professional courtesy Layne made sure that we all had wine in our glasses as we walked through the breezeway to the aging room. The learning tour was super interesting as we got to see the locally curated oak barrels, the authentic European barrels made of French oak, as well as the stainless steel tourine used to age M2s delightfully crisp Vermintino. After the tour we re convened in the main tasting room and sat at one of M2s super duper comfy soft seating sofas. I enjoyed the wine flavors here a bit better. I'm more for the lighter white wine selections these days. They gave me good options. The outdoor garden area with patio seating is pleasant. Their venue has a more modern and clean feel. It seems pretty relaxing. Some of the cutest pumpkins and gourds were displayed at the entranceway. The expanse of the vineyard itself is amazing in the forefront of blue skies and sunlight. Lots of parking is available on their gravel lot. What I do know, cuz of my sis, is that they're a dog-friendly establishment. (Please remember to bring appropriate snacks and drinks for the pups.)

The grounds, buildings and tasting room are beautiful, a sophisticated rustic cabin appeal with manicured landscaping and a craftsman style main building. We stood at the main tasting bar to try four wines. The Chardonnay and especially fhe old vine Zinfandel stood out as excellent to us and we ended up getting some bottles. As there weren't many folks doing a tasting on a weekday we got VIP treatment and had a deljghtful conversation, and education about the wines, from the person pouring for us. We really enjoyed our stay and the surroundings made it extra nice. Compared to the hype of Napa and Sonoma this winery and others in the Lodi area are down to earth and affordable in comparison, especially for tastings. This place very much is worth a visit. Sitting outside to sip a bottle must be delightful too.

Normally I prefer reds however in the summer I enjoy a crisp Sauvangion Blanc or even a nice Rose. If you purchase a bottle your tasting fee is waived which is always a great deal. We enjoyed ourselves so much we returned for the Alpine Block party event which included tastings at Stonum Vineyards and two other nearby wineries. This fun filled evening included live music, food trucks, and the Lodi Wine trolley shuttling you back & forth between the wineries. Definitely a good time! First, their reputation has always been very good. They've had some recognition from some reputable wine sources so I had very high expectations for the wine. In, short, the wines were very good. They had a nice selection from rose to the more Lodi styled red wines. I really did enjoy all the wines and the price point seems fair. I guess I was kinda hoping to meet the winemaker, learn more about their vineyards and purpose for growing certain varietals. When you get wine with a story it makes the experience that much more enjoyable. I really like this place and I'm hoping to make a stronger connection with the business since I consider myself an advocate for Lodi wines since my hobby is to compare our wines with the best out in the other regions of CA. Pretty heavy competition but so far Lodi is more than able to compete with certain types of wines aka Zinfandel, Tempranillo, Syrah and occasionally Cabernet.

I wish I had remembered to write a review my first time in years ago. Wine tastings used to be…read morepaired with cheese and Portuguese bread. At the time it was an intimate tasting room with a pretty entry area. (She said they do still sell the bread but only generally more around the holidays and that it disappears quick!) I'll have to keep checking in because I remember loving it. Now revisiting probably 8yrs later I'm seeing the beautiful space that either somehow went unnoticed or just wasn't part of the entry point my first time in. (During my time here I learned that the spaces mentioned didn't exist the last time I made my way here (2017/2018ish). The grounds here are beautiful and absolutely somewhere I could bring my work or a book and just relax with a glass of wine, simultaneously taking in the views. The $15 fee (which is incredibly reasonable for what you see nowadays!) included 6 Portuguese style wines to sample. The Vino Cor de Rosa was a bit on the sweeter side for my liking. The Verdelho had a citrus/fruit note that I enjoyed with a green apple like finish. The Touriga was one I'd keep stocked. It had the nice dark fruit feel that I very much enjoy in a red. The type you want to keep flowing with a pasta (or even a hearty meat craving if you ask me!) The Souzao I'm not quite sure how to explain. Continuing my "Basic B" level of descriptions, it has almost a cola or Dr. Pepper taste to it (in a good way despite how odd my choice of description may seem!) The Syrah to me reads like a lighter port, though u can't quite pinpoint what brings me to that conclusion. Lastly, the Trincadeira was a nice seemingly light red that I wouldn't mind on the balcony with my book. It amazes me that with the grounds they have, they don't host much in the way of winery events (though they do host many private events). I can appreciate that it isn't the direction they're looking to go... but perhaps some day!

Although the grounds are very nice the entire experience was a let down. The tasting room is very utilitarian and not at all what I expected for a comfortable wine tasting experience. Although there are a multitude of pleasant outdoor spaces to linger and lounge while sipping wine it seems set up and better suited to small groups of 10 or more. There's a restaurant in the main tasting room that was packed crowded. The offerings must be good. The ambiance was similar to a Cracker Barrel. There's lots of merchandise for sale and I was surprised how basic the place felt, nothing special. When we asked at the tasting counter if we could get a glass of the Petite Petit, the wine we were introduced to by friends, the answer was a very gruff and emphatic, NO. The man seemed annoyed we asked. It would have been nice to be offered an alternative. That really turned me off although we ended up buying two bottles anyway. So, Freakshow. Rather strange and peculiar labeling and marketing, but it does catch one's attention. I had to wonder if the inspiration came from the TV series American Horror Story of the same name? The Petite Petit is a deep hearty rich blend of red wine with a lot of depth. It isn't very expensive but the taste is both bold and rich. It was nice walking around the outdoor areas and gardens but there didn't seem to be much energy out there, maybe a weekday and/or too early in the days? I had to wonder if they get folks coming off I-5 since the major highway is so close. Hence the more basic tourist approach. In any case it's an OK place but in short order I was ready to move on to another winery.
