Had lunch while exploring San Francisco. The location is absolutely beautiful, with amazing waterfront views that make for a relaxing dining experience. The restaurant is spacious, open, and comfortable, and the staff were attentive. Unfortunately, the food was just okay, and I have to admit I was a little disappointed with the quality. The fish and chips were very oily and lacked much flavor. Even though the French fries are cooked in duck fat, they were surprisingly bland and didn't have the rich taste I was expecting. The cheeseburger had good flavor, but it was also quite greasy, and the bun quickly fell apart, making it messy to eat. My family and I came here for lunch and honestly it's a nice restaraunt with a seaside view. The food is great if you like seafood, yet a little on the expensive side because this is a "date-night spot". Other than that, we enjoyed a nice family meal here in McCormick & Kuleto's. This restaraunt had lots of space at lunch time and we were seated by a window with a beautiful view of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. The food we ordered was the Blackened Salmon, cioppino, the typical turkey sandwich and fish n chips. The Fish n Chips actually had a great crunch and perfect deep fry. The salmon was flavorful, a little small in my opinion, but still good. The turkey sandwich is reporter to be tasty. So overall, this was a good meal! 5 Stars are for the food - I think the waitstaff and hostess here are burnt out from the entitled guests and tourists, I didn't feel the hostess was the warmest, but poor thing looked exhausted and the lady in front of us was rude, so I get it. We sat in the bar area which was perfect with my 9 year old who does not sit still. Patrick was our server and one of only 2 bartenders serving the entire restaurant. Seems like they had one dedicated to table orders and then Patrick had entire bar area to himself AND he had to go get items from the kitchen, on 4th of July weekend. At dinner time. It's sad how terrible the industry is right now - restaurants have to run lean in order to keep doors open, so patience is a wonderful lesson to teach your child and kindness, which we focused on (or yourself, take a deep breath, enjoy the view and the FOOD). The food - OMG, amazing. Octopus and Ceasar salad = both 5 stars. The Octopus was a very small portion, but that's what I wanted/expected - so it was not surprising. What was surprising was the perfection to which it was cooked and seasoned. Grilled Octopus can become tough and almost too charred quickly, this was neither, in fact, if I was hungry I would want this offered as an entree that is how delicious it was. Ceasar was as expected, flavorful, fresh, hit the spot! Hangar steak and fries - my hubby said it was one of the best steaks he has had, and that's tough with this cut of meat. But it was tender, cooked to perfection, seasoned well. Fries in duck fat, yes please. I would eat a plate of those myself. Kids chicken tenders - served as a bento, so clever and greatly appreciated. He loved his chicken and crispy fries. But he got a cookie in one of the sections and a salad with ranch which he ate! He never eats salad, he said it was so good. We had a group dinner with a party of 8 after our civil wedding ceremony at SF City Hall, and it was the perfect restaurant for our needs! We arrived much earlier than our 4:30 reservation so we started with Happy Hour drinks and appetizers in the bar area, which we had to ourselves at around 3:45pm on a Tuesday. (Happy Hour runs from 3-6 daily in the bar area) When it came time for our dinner reservation, we got a nice large round table as I had requested in advance, in the corner with an incredible view from the massive floor to ceiling windows looking out at the Bay. It was perfect for our wedding dinner! Service was great, and they let us take our time. We were seated for a little over 90 minutes. The crispy broccolini was a popular side dish with our group. I got the surf & turf (4/5) which was pretty good. Two people got the Chilean Seabass, which they enjoyed a lot. Most people that ordered steak liked their dishes as well. SWOON - Those views. This has to be one of the best restaurants with views while dining in SF. Expansive views of the Bay, Alcatraz, the Bay Bridge and part of the Golden Gate. The restaurant is beautiful, there is a huge bar area (that seemingly has a good happy hour), and it's big! But sadly, the food is left to be desired and it's pricey, but to be expected. The move: enjoy the views and raw bar it up. Anything cooked is a bit suspect. The steak and fish were extremely overcooked. The kimchi crab cocktail went uneaten as it was just a glob of mayo. The chowder was eh? But those shrimp were tasty! My kids loved their kids hamburger bento box. Overall, enjoy a drink and some oysters and the insanely beautiful view. Skip the $75-$100 steak and $50 fish entrees. We had a gift card making it a bit easier to swallow and again, those views. Also the place is so beautiful but where the bathrooms are (which are kind of dingy, as well), they have closets with broken doors and things falling out of it... so weird, since the place other than that is stunning. We ordered the lobster and crab dip as an appetizer and it was served hot and came out delicious! I woke up still thinking about this dish the next day! We ordered a Cabernet and we felt like the wine pour was very generous in a large glass which we were happy about! For our mains, we ordered the prosciutto wrapped halibut. The prosciutto was crusted on top and was honestly hardly noticeable as a flavor on the fish. The fish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I enjoyed the mushrooms and tomatoes that complimented the fish as well as the fig glaze on the plate! The Chilean sea bass was also delicious! Both of these dishes were surprisingly filling after the appetizer. We ordered the loaded mashed potatoes as a side thinking we might need something extra and this one surprised us with how huge the bowl of potatoes was! You could definitely feed a few people with this as a side! We loved the ambiance of the restaurant as it sits on a side with a waterfront view of Alcatraz. Rosemary was one of the best servers I've met in a long time for a big party. She ensured everyone was taken care of and all requests were met. The room is beautiful, has fantastic views of the bay (including the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz) and is spacious. Her employer typically hosts a bar and the bartenders are always attentive, knowledgeable about what they're serving, and skilled at managing a small crowd. The food has been mixed, but overall good. We've both gotten the steak at every party (though the fish option looked great this year) and it hits the spot consistently. This year was a ribeye. The main dining area sits against large windows sharing the same view as the banquet area and - for the views alone - this spot is great for a date or a nice meal out. It is located in the Ghiradelli Square building, which has a parking garage (and on-street parking which can be very difficult to find.) We arrived early as soon as they opened, so it was not very busy. We sat at the corner location close to host stand, that provided the million dollar view. We went for a birthday and had a delightful lunch with our waiter, Aaron (hope I heard the name correctly) and his crew. Our party had several people with nut allergies, and gluten free needs, and he was very knowledgeable about our dishes. We started with some appetizers, oysters on the half shell (Kumamoto and Samish.) Most of the dishes were eaten and enjoyed b The only snafu (deduction half star) that seemed a little surprising was that we ordered the M&K Hanger Steak (medium rare), but instead it came out close to Medium well. Cooking steak for a restaurant of this caliber should be "textbook," and not something that they test out. We asked for them to take it away and bring out another so that it could be prepared correctly, which they did but it took them extra time. We planned a nice dinner at McCormick and Kuleto's to cap a long weekend in the city. Things started off fine: we were seated shortly after we arrived, despite getting there a few minutes before our reservation. Unfortunately, things sort of fell apart from there. Our server greeted us, took our drink orders, and promised to be back with bread. After that, we didn't see her again for another 10-15 minutes. When she did return, she let us know that the drink my wife had ordered was not available: they had run out of one of the ingredients. This wasn't upsetting--these things happen. My wife ordered a different drink, and we placed our food orders: cups of soup for my wife and son, and a salad for me. After another 10-15 minutes, the soups and salad were brought to the table by another server. At this point, the bread and drinks still hadn't come. We didn't say anything, assuming that they were surely on their way. Both soups--the clam chowder and the lobster bisque--were good, and my salad was legitimately great. I should add at this point that the drinks we had ordered were nothing exotic: a mojito for my wife; a Shirley Temple for my son; and a Diet Coke for me. We finished up that course and, another 10-15 minutes later, a third server brought our entrees to the table. We still didn't have our drinks at this point, or the bread, though the latter was quickly growing academic. We let this new server know, and he seemed taken aback. He promised to have some bread sent out and check on the drinks. The bread arrived just a few minutes later. And, almost 10 minutes after we started our entrees, our drinks finally came, accompanied by the most perfunctory of apologies from our original server. The food was _fine_, especially my dish, the free-range roasted chicken. The risotto that came with my wife's fish was a bit on the cold side, but the meal was otherwise OK. Unfortunately, it was undercut by the poor service. Our theory is that a group that came in after us ended up monopolizing our server's attention. They ordered expensive alcohol for the table and seemed primed to order more. Our server likely saw a big tip coming her way from that table and wanted to make sure they were well take care of, even at the expense of her other customers. Based on our experience, I'd be hard-pressed to recommend McCormick and Kuleto's. They'll be fine, in any event: the tourist crowd will keep them going forever. But, if anyone asks me, I'll suggest they find someplace else if they're looking for a special meal in San Francisco. read more

We made a reservation and received a text that our table was ready. When we went to check in, there was no hostess to be found. We tried to grab someone's attention and he said someone will be there. I recently rediscovered a spot that's literally in my own backyard-funny enough, I used to walk past it all the time thinking it was mostly a tourist stop. A friend convinced me to give it another shot, especially during happy hour, and told me to ask for Clarissa. Great advice. Clarissa is one of those people who instantly lifts the whole vibe of the place. She's upbeat, welcoming, and really makes you feel taken care of. The space itself is big, beautiful, and has amazing views, but it can be a little quiet at times. Honestly, that just makes the great service at the bar that much more important, and she really delivers. We brought a few out-of-town friends with us and everyone had a great time. After seeing so many great write-ups and reviews about Sam's in LA, it made us wonder if this could also be a case of discrimination. We decided to leave without asking why they weren't honoring Happy Hour, even though there were multiple signs outside advertising it. Honestly, the tone of the employees felt a bit suspicious. The Dungeness Crab Stuffed Salmon was rich and indulgent, with a perfect balance of flavors.The portion was generous, and the salmon was cooked just right. The Hokkaido Scallops were equally impressive. They were perfectly seared, with a slight crisp on the outside and a melt-in-your-mouth texture inside. The herb gnocchi was a great complement, adding a soft, pillowy bite, while the butternut squash and wild mushrooms brought an earthy sweetness that tied everything together beautifully.
