After months of delay due…read moreto permitting and weather (outside of SunPower's control), my 28 solar panel and 4x Tesla gen2 Powerwall setup was finally commissioned and online as of May 11th, 2023. Everything turned on and worked, I am beyond ecstatic! I now have plenty of solar panels and battery, with 11.5 KW of peak solar, and 4x Tesla gen2 Powerwalls at 54 KWH of energy storage to power my Tesla and everything in the house. The only miscommunication was when I checked the critical battery load list, they didn't put my mini-split AC / heater on it initially. When I complained about it the manager said they usually don't put air conditioning on backup uploads to protect the Tesla Powerwall batteries. I explained that before the solar project started I installed an energy efficient mini-split AC / Heater system that has slow soft start capability and is battery friendly, and confirmed with the engineer who installed the mini-split AC system, as well as SunPower's engineer. I have plenty of sun and battery power to operate this AC system, the math works out. SunPower by Precis then came back a month later to change the backup load, free of charge. Now everything is working perfectly and I can charge my Tesla with the power of the sun and power the entire house, including mini-split AC / heater, and be unaffected by extended power outages. If you install battery friend mini-split AC systems, and want it on the backup load, just make sure you communicate that clearly ahead of time with their engineers and ensure it gets added to the critical backup loads sheet with their managers/installers because putting AC on critical battery backup is non-standard, especially not the traditional HVACs that have a large spiky startup current that's really bad for batteries.

From that point forward there was no progress at all even though the company repeatedly told me everything was on schedule. Critical steps were ignored for months, including contacting the roofer and moving the project forward. I was not informed when their roofer withdrew from the job and I had to discover that myself after continued follow up. These delays destroyed the project timeline and removed my ability to receive the thirty percent federal tax credit that the company repeatedly used to sell the project. This tax credit was a major financial incentive that was lost entirely because of their inaction. The project manager who supervised my project with them offered a full refund in writing on Dec 1. Despite this the company later attempted to charge me a penalty fee even though they performed no work at all. Every part of this project failed because of their delays and their lack of communication, not mine. I am now having to pursue legal action simply to recover my own money. That alone should tell you everything about the way this company handles customers. Every statement here is documented in writing. I would not recommend this company under any circumstances.

Review Update: After…read moremy initial review, Eric (the sales rep) and Matt (the owner) of Sunline personally reached out to me and was apologetic about the situation. They sent Travis out promptly, who is their electrician where he found that the issue was resolved by replacing a faulty 40-amp breaker that was intermittently providing the necessary voltage, even though measurements initially appear correct. While the breaker issue caused real inconvenience and unexpected costs on my end, the owner was responsive and showed willingness to smooth things over to work toward a resolution. I also want to highlight that the panel upgrade and solar/battery installation itself was clean and well done. The workmanship that Eddie, Manny, Christian and Jamie performed had overall met my expectations, and once the issue was identified, Sunline did step in to correct it. No project is perfect, but how a company responds when problems arise matters a lot. In this case, Sunline's owner and Eric was engaged, responsive, and made a sincere effort to make things right. As an engineer, and after witnessing the symptoms and corrective actions firsthand, I believe the breaker issue was likely a manufacturing defect, and it was unfortunate that it occurred during the holidays. That said, based on how Sunline handled the situation, the overall quality of their work, and the value they offer, I would recommend them and plan to continue using them for future needs.

They are also one of the only installers in San Diego who use Enphase systems (Inverters/Batteries) as well as other top brands. Their roof and solar warranty can't be beaten. Great pricing, great value and great service. These guys do it all! We live in a 5-unit condo with no active HOA, so this brought up some unique challenges, but with the help of Chris Brown in Sales and Carance Wu in Accounting department we were able to be accommodated by allowing us to have separate payments for the 5 units which made things extremely easier for us as separate homeowners with no active HOA. Chris Brown, our main sales/service contact, was always there to answer all our questions about the re-roof and the new solar. He did an excellent job making sure we were well taken care of. He was there every step of the way for both the roofing projects and the solar and helped ensure their success. Erin Steinhardt, Roofing & PV Project Manager, was helpful during our re-roof project. She went above and beyond taking care of our needs. Daniel Chavez did a great job keeping things together as well. The roofing team was very professional, very friendly and they did a great job on the roof. I was very impressed with their skill in removing the damaged Fascia on our eves by removing the gutters, reinstalling the new wood Fascia and reusing the same gutters. Alex Guerra was our main contact solar and was there to answer any questions we had. Onsite, Team leader Henry and his team did an excellent job removing the previous solar and installing the new Enphase / Hyundai solar system. His team was extremely knowledgeable, very professional and very friendly. They answered all my questions and allowed me to be part of the design process from the galvanized steel piping location, quick shutoff switch and the battery location I was able to achieve the best final results possible for my unique situation. If you ever need a re-roof and new solar, Sunline Energy is by far the best.

Jesse took ownership of the situation, listened to our concerns, and worked diligently to resolve the issue in a professional and fair manner. His commitment to making things right reinforced our confidence that customer satisfaction is a true priority for the company. The combination of high-quality workmanship, excellent communication, and a customer-focused approach left us with a very positive impression. We highly recommend OC Solar to anyone considering a solar installation.

She offered a free panel cleaning, which she set up internally and had their team come out this past Friday without issue. Since the cleaning the panels have been much better performing especially after these past few weeks of misting and rain, about 25% higher output. I didn't think much of it but I get now it's worth doing to get the most out of the panels. Overall a very good response and experience with OC specifically for this issue. I feel that they do want to stand out from the crowd and responding proactively to feedback gives me more confidence they'll take care of issues as they hear about them.

I'm not going to continue chasing after these guys for service. Earlier this year they received several positive reviews, then there's a drop off. Someone recently left a similar review about them earlier this month, so perhaps this company is heading down a bad path. Often times when researching companies, I prefer to start with the negative reviews then move onto the positive ones. The negative reviews at times gives more useful information than a fluffy, positive review would. You can choose to roll the dice with these guys or go with a company that's responsive and true to their words. I've gone with another company.
