    Cup of Homemade Chili
    Julianne S.

My husband and I found McCoy's Place while doing a search on Yelp, feeling eager to try something new. McCoy's did not disappoint. I started off with a cup of their homemade chili, which was pretty good. (I personally prefer a little more beans in my chili but that aside, the chili was quite good, Especially on a cold day.) My husband's enjoyed a 6-piece order of spicy garlic wings. He really liked the sauce on the wings. For my entree, I ordered the Grape Wanut Chickrn Salad Wrap with a side of green beans. I had the option of a white wrap or spinach and herb. I went with the spinach and herb for something different. The wrap was really good! And being that I am now on Weight Watchers, I loved that I had the option to order green beans as a side. The green beans looked and tasted fresh,, not from a can or frozen. One note for those who might be vegetarian, though, there is a little bit of bacon in the green beans. I also sampled my husband's onion rings that he ordered with his burger, and they were really yummy! Even though it took me a little over my daily points, we ordered a slice of oreo cheesecake to share for dessert. It was rich, creamy, and loaded with oreos. I highly recommend! I only gave McCoy's 4 stars instead of 5 become service was really slow when we first arrived, but it did improve as the night went on. I would recommend, though, that you order your appetizer and meal at the same time if possible. The next time you're in the next, stop in and give McCay Place a try. The friendly staff is eager to welcome you. Bon Appétit!

This is an out of place establishment where I've passed it many times so we decided to try it. It's a bar and grill with a dinner menu that is served all day. We walked in and looks like a typical bar and grill and it has their following that eats there often. We ordered the chili cheese fries and it was really good. Basic and the fries have a crunchy outer shell and the inside is soft. The chili had a really good taste to it and chunks of ground beef. I had the Ruben with onion rings. The sandwich bread was grilled high is the way I like my sandwich and they cook the Ruben with the onions and top it off with Swiss cheese. It was a tasty sandwich. The onion rings looked like they were overcooked but they really were not. You can taste the beer flavored batter and it was crispy and the onion were not undercooked. My wife had grape walnut chicken salad wrap with Saratoga chips. She like the taste of the wrap and her only complaint was that there was a lot of wrap on the ends so it was like eating just the wrap. The chips were good and she thought the BBQ sauce was on the thick side. Service was good but it didn't seem like our waitress was a multitasker but she may been the only one there. I couldn't get a picture but there was a portable breathalyzer on the wall which was great. I didn't get any pictures on the inside since I was facing a wall but a typical Irish bar theme and a decent size bar to sit at. They have live music inside and out when it gets warmer. I will be making another trip to try the burgers and wings.

We carried out an early dinner from here and it was just OK. It was about 4:30 and the parking lot was already beginning to fill up with a number of people joining those already at the bar, so it's obvious it's a popular local choice. The menu offers a lot of appetizers, wings, sandwiches and hoagies, burgers, wraps and various main dishes like fried shrimp and pork chops. Some of the main dishes are available in a smaller portion for senior citizens. They also have specials nightly including meatloaf and steak night. I wanted to try their Irish pot roast that now comes with mashed potatoes and gravy (vs the former new potatoes,) carrots and the kind of dinner rolls you buy in a cardboard container stuck together in one block. The menu listed on Yelp shows a second pot roast dish over toast as well. I so wanted to like this dish as pot roast is my favorite. While the meat was very tender just like you make at home, it had an odd sweet taste that seemed to come from the gravy and some other kind of taste I couldn't place. A liberal amount of gravy was served over everything, which I normally would've appreciated. The carrots were well-cooked and tender, but the mashed potatoes tasted like instant to both me and my husband. Not something I would order again and after a few bites I passed it on to my husband. He got the fried fish and fries. He liked that the fish was cut into tender size and said the taste was fine. The fries were just OK, kind of mushy without too much taste. I imagine lots of people come here as a place to hang out at the bar versus having dinner. Maybe other food choices would have been better picks.

Great Friday Ribs and Steak night special. Comes with 2 sides and a hefty ribeye. Also had a Reuben with fries and that was well prepared too. Friendly neighborhood bar scene with karaoke nights as well as live music at times. Great drink prices as well. You be happy you stopped in! Only lost a star for noise level as it can be difficult to have a conversation with all the going ons inside somewhat tight quarters. The summertime back deck is awesome and the whole place is welcoming year round!

First, the location is awesome-literally cattycorner from the stadium and the ambiance is great since the owner is from Ireland, the place really looks like an Irish pub (according to my husband, who has been to Ireland many times.) I love the cozy dining nooks dotted around the restaurant. We expected it to be slammed packed and it was busy, but we were able to get right in. We had the best waitress. She was so friendly and really chatted it up with us and made awesome menu recommendations. The food was so freakin' good! Since it was a gameday, they were only doing a limited menu but there was something on there for everyone. We tried the two wings on offer-BFG & Hot Honey, as well as the Big Bag of Fries. The food came out pretty quickly and was piping hot. OMG. The wings were so good. I literally couldn't pick a favorite flavor. I usually don't like thicker cut fries but the waitress assured me that I would like them and she was right! They were so crispy and the Marie Rose and homemade ranch sauces complimented them perfectly. Be aware that the Big Bag of Fries is just that, big! So definitely shareable. I'm obviously not in Cincy often, but the next time I'm there, I will definitely stop in!

A great spot just across the river from downtown Cincy, we often start here before walking across the bridge for an event or game. We got there at around 9:10 and were first offered a seat inside but it was so loud in there the hostess couldn't hear what we were saying and vice versa, so we got a spot on the patio. Our sever was very nice, but service was VERY slow for a Sunday night. She told us they were busy the night before because of a conference and they were still in town that day, so the bar inside was busy. After ordering our drinks it took about 15 minutes to get them, and she didn't even take our food order when she came back despite us being ready. We waited, no problem. We ordered a 'Spice Bag' and it was decent but took about 25 minutes to get to us despite being potatoes and onions in a bag. For 40 minutes we waited for our food and when it came out it was terrible. I ordered the Fish and Chips and Caesar Salad to share and both were mediocre at best and inedible at worst. If you come here: DO NOT GET THE FISH AND CHIPS. They were battered nicely, but aside from that the fish didn't feel fully cooked and tasted like nothing, with a hint of dirty water. The tartar sauce seemed homemade, but didn't have any flavour. The coleslaw was boring and watery, with no flavour. Our server never checked up on us during the meal, so I never got the chance to ask for something else, so I was just stuck with the fries it came with. I know what good fish and chips should taste like and it's not that. Others ordered the curry and the wings and seemed to enjoy it, which is nice. However, 30 minutes after placing our order we were told that the kitchen "ran out of rice" and they asked us what we would like to replace it. When the curry came out, it was missing the naan but again, server never came to check on us so we didn't notice until the end of our meal. Overall, it's a cute place that feels Irish, but service is slow and food is terrible. Our server was lovely and it wasn't her fault that she was busy with tables, but management should be doing more when they know there's a conference in town to set their servers up for success.
