This McDonald's is really nice because it's in a classy neighborhood! The seasonal decor was cute, the air-conditioning was great, and the staff were pleasant! The young man at the counter was efficient and helpful. He looked for the #8 toy... just in case... but there was none... Thanks for trying! I've seen them for Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, graduation, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. In addition to a floral arrangement, each holiday has its own enhancements, e.g., graduation will have photos of employee graduates, and Halloween has varying colors of smiling pumpkins. As McDonald's is located near the entrance, there is sometimes a backup of cars going using the drive-thru lane; just use the next lane on the left to either drive straight or right turn around these cars. Drive-in service was extremely slow, even after using the app. Has such I won a stop in here again and take the chance of extremely sore lines. I recommend they make better use of their curbside pick up and take cars that are taking a long time and putting them out there so the line can keep going through. read more

I thought everyone loves McDonalds! It's surprising to see EVERY SINGLE McDonalds rated 3 stars (only 2) and lower. Did everything go downhill when McDonalds got rid of their PlayPlace? What happened to Grimace and the Hamburgler?? More concerning, where is RONALD?? It's obvious McDonalds moved away from kids and focused on adults, which I don't believe worked very well. Let kids have fun! Not whatever the heck some kids are doing now. This McDonalds is the quintessential of focusing on adults--making it more like a cafe. It's located in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center. There's plenty of parking and a drive thru with two ordering stations. It gets pretty backed up while the inside is essentially empty. The inside was very clean and spacious. Cashier was friendly and pleasant. The food was as good as McDonalds can be. Many people complain about getting the wrong items. Can check before you go, right? Happened to me before. Just go back and they'll kindly give you the right items, and on some instances they even know they got it wrong and give you extra! I love this place because it's ambience is really warm and welcoming. They have a wall acknowledging ALL public high school graduates at graduation season & they had a little table reserved for a decor of MOTHERS DAY with flowers in a vase, a balloon & pillows. SO CUTE! Didnt take a photo tho! Ugh! Also, their food is fresh. So far all orders that were ordered took a while to make because they were constantly cooking from the long line they had. So everyone's food was fresh. Their drive thru is super busy tho. Oh and restrooms are available here! So anyone who needs a quick bathroom stop, HERE'S YOUR PLACE! All kiddin' aside, McDonald's breakfast is da BESTEST!!! Other items that you can only find at McD's are like our - Taro Pie, Haupia (coconut pudding) Pie, Fruit Punch, Apple Pies that are deep fried (not baked), and recently McD's stopped selling their onolishes Saimin. This particular McDonald's restaurant is located in the Hawaii Kai neighborhood, at the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center. A nice clean restaurant, and because of the nicer area, you will see waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less rift raft hangin' out at this restaurant. My recent adventures here were not for breakfast, but for a nice cold ice cream cone. The cone served at McD's kinda reminds me of Dairy Queen which brings very fond memories as a kid. I love this McDonald's because they are super fast and there is rarely ever a long line at the drive through! I went there 3 times during my most recent trip, and ordered the same thing - the Portuguese sausage, eggs & rice platter for $5.49. They are super generous with their portions! We've been here so many times because it always quick and fast. But recently this McDonalds is just not cutting it. We been doing the mobile orders and just placing the order before we get there. Then we park in one of their designated spots and it messages them to bring out our meals. They've messed up so many orders doing this mobile ordering. I've ordered the deluxe spicy chicken sandwich for my husband on several occasions and it has never been. One time it was the worst. It was a chicken patty and a bun. No lettuce or anything else. It looked so sad, I felt sorry for him. Today was just another one of those days. McDonald's has this rewards app now so I've been accumulating points. I saw that I had a free happy meal so I decided to order it in a mobile order for my daughter. I ordered a cheeseburger happy meal and an Apple pie. We get home and my daughter is telling me, "mommy this isn't what I ordered". She said it was nuggets. She was so disappointed, she told me throughout the whole lunch about how McDonald's messed up her order. So I double checked just to make sure it wasn't me that ordered the wrong thing. Nope, receipt says cheeseburger. If you do go to this McDonald's, just make sure you check your bags before you leave. They tend to get things wrong or forget to pack it. I went through drive-thru for lunch today. I order a Happy Meal and a Quarter Pounder Deluxe meal. The cashier was very polite. I brought my food home and found that the Quarter Pounder Deluxe was missing the hamburger patty! It is synonymous with ordering pasta without the noodles! I drove back to inform them by going into the store. Jonathan, the inside-store cashier was polite and apologized. When he informed the kitchen staff, a woman wearing red laughed out loud without any reserve, knowing I was standing there listening! This is why I am writing this review. I couldn't see her name tag but she had gold caps on her teeth. Where was the manager, and why didn't he/she stop the employee from laughing about it, when I had to drive back, wasted gas and time, and missed eating lunch with my family? Okay, there's a reason when I check in here I usually comment "cheap date night" and that's because it is. FPO and I can get dinner with leftovers for lunch the following day for between $10 - $15. The customer service is iffy - sometimes we get someone really nice and helpful (we count ourselves lucky) other times meh, not so much (c'est la vie). Usually we need to wipe down our own table. And about two out of every five times my Big Mac looks like a James Bond martini (shaken, not stirred). I won't risk the drive thru either because they can't seem to get an order correct at the drive thru and you don't know about it until you get home. Orders in the dining room are usually accurate though, so I don't know what the deal is with that. Why do I keep going back, you may ask? It's McDonald's! Take it for what it is. Fast food, not particularly healthy for you, but familiar and convenient ... and if you know your way around the menu ... cheap. Their operation during the pandemic was very efficient. Customers can order online in advance. Then, park on one of their reserved curve side pickup spots to wait for delivery with a short wait. Second, did you know you can order on the McDonald's App? O.M.G. Yes, this app has existed for quite some time and offers KILLER deals that you couldn't get otherwise. Also, your order goes in and is prepared from your phone. Granted, you need to be nearby for your order to actually be fully processed, but you can be in your car to wait for your food. There is even an option for the workers to come to your car :O Okay so the food. Not sure about other McDonald's anywhere else but the quality is the same - its fast food. Don't expect a five-star meal paying one-star prices. Not going to lie, some of their items aren't always the best but that is the same for other McDonald's on the island...unless there exists one better than others.. Love their french fries, love their soft serve, and love their iced coffee. I have absolutely no problem with the food. Prices - its fast food. Using the app makes things much better. Of course, cooking is cheaper but who wants to do that? The workers are fabulous. They really are the all-stars here. They are working through this crisis and don't get the credit they deserve. I've had issues in the past but recently, they're really providing exceptional customer service. I ordered a Local Deluxe Breakfast Platter for my son this morning. It's supposed to come with Portuguese sausage, Spam, eggs, and rice. When I got home and my son opened the platter, all there was on it was rice. No meat. They screw up orders more than they should but most times I don't bother taking food back or saying anything. Giving me only rice for the Deluxe platter was too much to let slide. I'm not one to give employees a hard time and only explained to the cashier what I ordered and what I got. Manager came out and acted like I was being an ass for bringing it back. First thing out of her mouth was "so what do you want? We don't serve breakfast anymore." I asked can I get a refund although I used the app to order and pay. "Yeah, but you still paid for it!" Proceeds to give me a cash refund with a big sigh.
