I got a message for "free small fries with $1 purchase". I added the deal to my order, then order the prerequisite $1.89 drink. When I get to the pick up-no fries. I asked the supervisor on duty (@2:30 pm) and she said "you didn't add it to the bag-I guess this is different from your order so I showed her a screenshot of the item added to my order. She says "well it's not in you bag". Arguing over a $2 item? Not apologizing for the obvious error? Drove to pick up breakfast early while heading to a meeting, signs were all lit, lights were on and the menu was lit up. Yelp, Google and website states this place is supposed to be open at 5:30am. I got there around 5:40 and nobody was there, drive thru wasn't chained or blocked but the automatic drive thru Ai voice said come back during business hours but didn't state when that was. Only "2" stars on Yelp for this McDonald's in Kailua??? How can be? I just had the most pleasant experience coming to this McDonald's restaurant as I found this place convenient, as I was just working a block away from this place. The restaurant was very clean & spacious, service was efficient, and whenever I go to a McDonald's I basically know what to expect. I had a 1/2 hour lunch so I came here for some Chicken McNuggets, and I even used my McDonald's points for a free McChicken sandwich. The food is your typical fast food, and I would say it's nothing to write home about, but the grub is perfect when you don't have much time on your hands for lunch. While dining inside of the restaurant, I was greeted (I think the dude was the owner), very friendly, and he was thanking the customers for their patronage. It is very rare now-a-dayz to see wonderful customer service like this, but I must say it was much appreciated. read more

It was too late for us to turn back as we were already on H3. I called the store to see if they could just refund us for the item that was missing and got a straight up NO from the MANAGER! He said I would have to come back to the store?? Are you serious? Turn around when we are already on H3??? WOW! Never going back to this store. Not super busy on a weekend morning. Drive thru was easy to find, lots of parking available for dine-in if you want. They have a kids play area which is hard to find nowadays. Service and staff were quick and friendly. Hardly waited for my order and had no missed items, including sauces. read more

My order today was simple. Small fries, no salt. I was greeted in the drive thru very pleasantly. I gave my mobile order code from the app and was told to drive forward. The fries were so piping hot I had to blow on them before biting! I love that I am able to customize the order to be with no salt since sometimes the fries are too salty. The restaurant felt on the warm side but large w lots of places to sit, had 2 different homeless men sitting in here in the morning and didn't feel too clean but there was someone that came to clean the dining room shortly after. Great place to eat but... sometimes the food is a hit or miss. Depending on the cooks will depend on your experience. Today nice workers and not too busy but our egg McMuffin is burnt crisp on the edges. Don't know who trained the cook but they need someone to teach them to NOT TO BURN TJE FOOD! Never burn the food! Only CHAR BROILED can be burnt because it's not burnt it's CHARED ‍otherwise best I can do today is tear off the edges. Here I go! Ok yay! Done! It's much better. I sometimes go through the drive-thru in the mornings and the employee who takes my order if very polite, often welcoming me back like an old friend and even asking if I want my usual order even though I only go there a couple times a month. So I've been going to this McDonald's for well over 20 years.. I don't know what happened in the past couple of months but the crew has changed and the quality of service and food has gone to absolute shit! The drive through as you pull in states that they are closed, and when they tell you to go back around to order, I order and then have to wait a ridiculously long amount of time for a simple order... tonight I ordered a chicken nugget happy meal a 10 piece chicken nugget meal a McDouble meal deal and an ice cream cone... all with cokes... every coke has about three pieces of ice in it, the chicken nuggets and fries were cold.... Not warm but cold, I live two blocks from this McDonald's and when I got home everyone said the same thing... "what the hell!? My food is cold!" Only thing that wasn't cold was the cokes! The ice cream I had to hurry up and eat because it was pretty much melting before my eyes and the cone was STALE!! Like ridiculously stale! I am between 2 or 3 but the reader can decide. After a long hot walk along the beach we decided to pull into McD drive thru for a frozen soda. The line was long and here is the 2 star part of the experience: I think the problem could be training and the equipment--the microphones and speakers. This happens everytime my husband has gone there-at least a half dozen times over a few months. We pull up and no greeting just a voice saying "pull up" we are confused--we haven't even ordered yet. As we look at each other in the car "Pull up!" My husband's asks-you want us to pull up to the next window? We haven't ordered yet. The voice just says "pull up to the next window!" He asks again "do we order there?" No answer. After a few seconds we decide to pull up. Now we are looking at the menu as the voice asks what we want today. We can't find the frozen sodas so we say so and ask what flavors they have. The voice asks if we know what we want. We ask again what flavors do they have? A list rattled off as one long word but cut off in the beginning sounded like -erryblueras--ryfrozencoke We are confused and ask her to repeat the flavors. She repeats Do you know what you want? We ask her to repeat them again it comes out as one long stri g of gibberish but we make out wild--erryblueraspberryfrozencoke. So we order wild strawberry and frozen coke. She tells us the price and to pull forward. We hear the people behind d us ordering strawberry and are told there is no strawberry only cherry.We pay to a pleasant woman. We pickup from a pleasant woman. As we drive away I stick my straw in and sip--wild cherry. It's ok it quenched my thirst but it was very frustrating. Cray cray line in the drive thru so I stopped inside. Got my order fast. 6 feet social distancing stickers on the ground and on every other chair. Boys restroom is open to customers only. Ladies restroom is for employees only.. Nice and refreshing to see we still have an indoor playground at McD's still. Although I won't be taking my kids here for that til all this is over.. They have a few menu options that aren't available on the mainland - taro pie, saimin, portuguese sausage/spam in some of the dishes, but otherwise, you can picture exactly the quality of food and service you'll get. Drive thru took over 20 minutes to take the order due to some system issue; the menu board outside restarted once. Once setup, though, it was quick and they had taro pie (though not on the menu board). Two for $3.85. Note inside they have a huge playroom space that we looked into as we waited. So service was okay. Food was good. However the restaurant smelled like pee. It was hard to be a dine In customer. I know there is a homeless problem everywhere but the staff allowed someone's wet pants dry on the rubbish can that was inside the restaurant. There was a homeless lady sleeping on the bench in front of the registers. Why would I bother reviewing a McDonald's? Because this one has a PLAY AREA. As a parent, places with safe, clean and FREE activities for kids are appreciated and coveted. This particular play area is not especially large (only a fraction of the airport/Valkenburg McDonald's - one tube slide and some climbing platforms). However, not every McDonald's has a play area. In fact, very few do. Although smallish, this one is also fairly clean and well maintained. In addition to the play structure, this McDonald's has a few other positives: + Hand sanitizer station. + Clean bathrooms. + Fun, hamburger stools (great for the wife's compulsory photo ops of the kids). + Old school Grimace sculpture! + Clean restaurant in general (tables, floors, etc.) which, unfortunately, is not the case in every McDonald's. + Large dining area. read more

I placed a large order and they forgot a Big Mac which I didn't see until I got home. 6 miles each way is not too far but more than you'd like, due to THEIR mistake. On my way there a cheeseburger was requested so I wondered if they would charge me for it after having to drive all the way back to retrieve the missing Big Mac. I told the lady I had just been there and they had forgotten the Big Mac. She said she recalled that order. I explained I had gone all the way home before coming back and if they could add a cheeseburger. I got up to the window and saw her talking to the manager apparently explaining my situation. I came to the drive-thru for breakfast and right after I got my food and tried to drive into the parking spots I ran over a curb. To be honest, it's my fault, but if they had a yellow pillar (like I've seen at many other McDonald's drive-thru's) or something that could be see from the windows at the drive through it could have been prevented. Have you ever written a review in hopes that it's seen by the business owner? Full disclosure: that's where I'm going with this review. While I am not a frequent McDonald's customer, this location of McDonald's is right down the street from my new office, so I was excited to try out my new McD's app on my phone to have a decaf coffee beverage from the McCafe, and looked forward to using my app's "virtual punch card" to keep treating myself to some drinks as the mood strikes. I was completely dismayed to learn that this McDonald's offers just one option for decaf coffee drinkers: hot plain decaffeinated coffee only. I tried to request a decaf mocha, a decaf latte, even just an iced decaf. I even explained how other Owner/Operators, drive thru locations, and even the employees at the now-closed corporate McDonald's Express on Ward have made me iced coffee--fill a clear cup with ice and pour the hot iced coffee over it. This is nothing new--I've been able to get decaf McCafe drinks for over 6 years!! When the cashier was confused, I said this to 2 managers (you know, the ones not dressed like anyone else), and both of them remained standing over 10 feet from me and only replied with "No, only hot decaf". Wow, I was really disappointed, as I was so looking to being able to get a cool, creamy coffee drink just steps away from my office. This location of McD's is clean, big, airy, and not too busy, even during lunch time. For that, 2 stars. Fails: 1. Being unable/unwilling to give a customer a product that's been done at other locations island-wide with no problem for years 2. Management treating me as if I'm interrupting/bothering them, and for not even bothering to walk 10 steps across a slow kitchen to approach and speak to me.
