It was my first time here. The atmosphere was great. The drinks were a bit pricey but not unusual for the north shore. The bartenders are what makes this place special. Our company closed down for the day and was taking the crew out for the day of eats and the Pirate game .we had a reservation for 25 when we got to the restaurant we ask if we could sit outside and we were told yes but not to move the tables around and that people smoke out there not a problem since a third of the people we work with smoke. The waitress was a very sweet girl but overwhelmed since she was the only one taking care of us WTF. the few times the other girl came out she was dismissive just as the other reviews state. She told one of us that they don't have BBQ sauce during game nights????.My sister asked for a rolling rock and a hour later told her they didn't have it. My daughter asked with ID in hand for a ic light mango and she just walked by So i pretty much Knew that wasn't going to happen.. Drinks were never served food that was ordered never came. I get it sometime mistakes happen most likely before a Pirate game but when we got there at 430 they weren't busy and My husband sitting at a bar table was not even asked if he wanted a drink as he sat in the Bar waiting to direct the other people we were waiting for to their seats The hostesses and there were a few couldn't be bothered with that to busy talking to each other.My only guess is poor management I mean The Pirates are playing on Father's day weekend and you are sadly understaffed . The waitress who was trying so hard to take care of us and I hope you Are not turned off by this .I personally felt you did as best as you could just under bad management . I go to a lot of Pittsburgh sporting events onteh North Shore and always seem to find myself at McFaddens. The bartenders are a blast, and are always ready to get me another dirnk when I need it. Everytime I'm there I always have a great time. Bugers are really good too! read more

Wait staff was rude and unprofessional... bartender took shots and talked with a patron for 10 minutes during last call and then told me the bar was closed and she couldn't serve me. Kind of glad in a way, since the drinks were way overpriced and, considering there was hardly any liquor in them, not worth it. I won't be returning. read more

I ate at this establishment for the first time last night and had one of the worst meals in recent memory. I had mahi mahi, which was described as teriyaki style, but was served drenched in overpowering AllBay seasoning with teriyaki sauce. Hard to believe anyone actually thought those flavors intentionally belonged together. It was awful. My dining companion had the smoked turkey/pulled pork, which was fine but both of us were served a pile of bland overcooked 100% brocolli (and maybe cauliflower) stems as the veggie...not a single crown, along with a scoop of horribly oversalted mashed potatoes. I realize it is a pub, not a fine restaurant, but this was truly memorable for how bad it was. PS I also sent them feedback via their website and they didn't even bother to respond. My sister and I stopped here for lunch before the Pirates game today. Now, being that it's a Sunday after a Saturday night where it might have been busy and crowded, there is no excuse for opening up a business without first cleaning the place. The floors were filthy and sticky. Our table was filthy and sticky. The ladies room was filthy and sticky with black muck just mopped into the corners. There was a nasty mop and scrub bucket sitting out in the open. The stalls were PAINTED red but were still worn out around the handles/levers. (update much?) The toilet paper holder was duct-taped closed and my faucet fell off into the sink. The carpets in the front foyer were in dire need of a vacuum cleaner. At the hostess desk where you get seated were sitting 2 bottles of cleaning solution with bar rags that obviously weren't being used. Why would they have these items sitting UP ON THE HOSTESS DESK? I had to go over and ask the hostess to please clean the sticky off of our table. ( I would have rather had done it myself, because she didn't even do the whole table.) There were also all kinds of crumbs down in the vinyl seats. Our server was attentive and efficient and the food was decent for bar food. (But, I don't get out much so can't compare it to other local places). I just know dirt when I see it and I can put up with a lot, but, for the sake of your business, please hire a decent cleaning crew and don't depend on your waitstaff or whoever is doing it, to keep your place clean. If the front of the house is so dirty, I just wonder what the kitchen looks like. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. I was physically assaulted by the bouncer after doing nothing wrong. There was a $5 cover charge and I had no cash. Bouncer said I could go inside and get money from the ATM, so I did. I was with a friend and planned on buying the cover for both of us. The bouncer took both mine and my friends ID and said he would return once i got the money for the cover charge. Got the money, went back outside, handed the bouncer my cash, and he said both you and your friend need to be here to get the IDs back. I yelled for my friend, and as she came over, the bouncer said "how about you just leave" proceeded to grab my chest and push me out of the doorway. I demanded my money back and said how dare you push a woman. Mind you, he was easily three times my size. I don't know what I did to be pushed, or even laid a hand on at all, but I will not be returning. Even before this unfortunate encounter I have never liked McFaddens. Horrible bar. Absolutely horrible. This place is expensive and the bartenders are unprofessional. My family (father, sister, and I) went hereafter after the Pirates game on a Tuesday. I would just like to say that we received the rudest service from the bartenders that I have ever experienced. After asking for a Jim and Coke we were told that the bar was out of Jim Beam. The bar was also out of Jack Daniels, Captain Morgan, and Miller Lite. After hearing the disappointing liquor selection we ordered drinks nonetheless. It was as we were closing out tabs that we received the truly rude treatment. As a fellow service industry worker my father decided that the bartender who served him was undeserving of an exceptional tip (he still tipped 10% on the bill). He also decided that he should be fair to the bartender in that he should make the bartender aware of his reasoning behind the sub-par tipping so he stated his reasoning on the receipt tape that he was given. Upon receiving the tape the bartender proceeded to confront my father about the note left and after polite explanation decided to demean and insult my father and his business (which is also a bar). After asking for the manager's phone number and the name s of the bartenders (they declined to offer their names) a general manager named Patrick was brought out to speak with with us. In reality he merely listened the events as we told them and dismissed us without any indication of remorse for his employees' actions or future disciplinary actions to be taken. I understand that it the data could be construed to seem as though my family was being unreasonable, but I seem to remember a time when the job of the employees of a company were to ensure that the customer was happy WHILE REMAINING RESPECTFUL TO SAID CUSTOMER. I was always taught that though the customer may not always be right, they at least always deserved to be treated with respect (even if that meant RESPECTFULLY asking the customer to leave). In summation I would just like to state that I was not impressed with the way that your business was run (by both your bartenders and your General Manager) and that my family will not be returning to any restaurant that treats its customers with such little respect. read more

When our group arrived, the bar area was busy but the tables were readily available. After being seated (and having to push tables together ourselves with our numbers) the service was extremely slow. One of the worse dining experiences ever. Arrived with a large group for dinner and we were the only people in the restaurant. No one ever took our drink order. We had to chase down a waitress to order dinner. Waited over 1 hour and were told multiple times the food was on the way. Never arrived. Our one large table of 12 finally got appetizers and dinners together after 1 hour 20 minutes. Manager never came over to apologize. i would never return after the poor service. read more

My husband and I were seated at 1:05 PM last Saturday before a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game. One hour and ten minutes later, we still did not have our lunch, despite my asking several times about the wait. The only reason we received our potato chip appetizer was that it was delivered by mistake to the table next to ours. Whereas the food is good, there is no excuse for the wait; we were not the only ones who did not receive our food before it was time to go to the game. The interesting thing, however, was that four tables of the opposing team's fans were served and finished eating during that time period. The manager barely apologized either. read more

This place is the hidden gem of the North Shore. Most people think of it only as a game day stop, which is true, but McFadden's is an all around good time no matter what is going on! On game days the bar is packed and full of excitement but the service is still top notch. I used to love going to South Side but McFaddens is my new weekend destination as well! The bartenders are fast and very skilled and the music is fantastic (a mix of old and new). The place is also huge! If you love dancing, great drinks, and exceptional food (the tots are out of this world) then I highly recommend McFadden's! Even my mom loved it there! It's especially great for parties and special occasions! I plan on throwing my birthday and bachelorette parties there (if I ever get engaged) because I know they'll be a blast! read more

This place is an embarrassment of a business. It's such as shame that such a great location is going to waste. This past week my friend made a reservation for a going away party and when we arrived they did not have us "in the book" and acted clueless instead of resolving the issue in a professional manner. Then I came here for happy hour and searched for a hostess of waitress and could not find one so we sat ourselves on the patio. We waited 20 minutes before realizing no one was going to wait on us, even though an employee, wearing McFaddens shirt, was hanging out with his friends at a nearby table and clearly saw us waiting. Once we got up and went to the bar the waitress took our drink orders, claimed she'd be back for our food orders AND NEVER RETURNED. Even though she was standing right in front of us. Did I mention we were 2 of 8 people at the restaurant? We waited 15 minutes while her and the other server (who was wearing shorts where her buff cheeks were exposed) sat on their phones and hugged the same male employee who ignored us earlier. After finally waiting to the point of being annoyed we spoke up and ordered our food and returned to our outdoor table. Only for the server with the short shorts to come over and ask for our order again because the other waitress did not remember it. Our food finally arrived, no one asked us if we wanted water or any more drinks and they never checked on us again. When we were done we returned to the bar to check out and the waitresses were obviously intoxicated and dancing on the bar... at 7:30 on a Monday with 6 other people at the bar. The male worker then attempted to get us to tip well while checking out by apologizing for everything being "crazy" and offered us water... As we were walking out. This location is in an amazing spot and I used to think highly of this bar. Now it's just a disgusting excuse for a business with lazy employees. You're paying them to drink while customers basically serve themselves. It's no wonder there were so few people there. I will never return or recommend it to anyone. And to think I almost payed a $10 cover charge after a Pirates game makes me sick. $10 for your employees to get drunk and "work", no thanks. read more

McFadden's has always been a go-to spot for my friends and I to watch games and for a fun night out! A more recent experience left us SO impressed and grateful for the amazing customer service. My friends and I had been to McFaddens the weekend of Halloween and ended up winning the group costume contest. Little did we know, McFaddens was giving us all Steelers tickets for the win! We were bummed out to find out that we had one less ticket than the number of people in our costume group and were expecting for one of us not to be able to go. Then one of the managers, Randy, followed up with where they had gotten the tickets from and went out of his way to get us an extra ticket so that all of us could enjoy the prize! My friends and I thank Randy and McFaddens for caring so much about their customers and always providing such a fun atmosphere and great experience!! The security guard kicked my friend out for closing his eyes for 20 seconds. Then, additionally, my group and I decided to go to the other side of the bar, and the security guard accused of skipping out on one of the 10 checks we had at the table, and continued to curse me out and drop the "f" bomb minimally 10 times. He tried kicking us out and said he'd call the cops, even after I gave my card to pay the receipt, and when I discussed this absurd, unprofessional behavior with the manager, the manager said the security guard "would never do that", when I was with 5 other people who witnessed his absurd abusive behavior. Th security guard continued to attack me after I talked to the manager, saying I have to leave and not giving me a reason why. He was very worked up and irrationally angry. I will never go back to this place and will recommend to anyone not to give them business for their complete disrespectful behavior, from management down to the security guard with pubes on his face and a tiny penis. read more

This is THE place to be before a sporting event in Pittsburgh!!!!!! We came on a game day to see the Steelers. Most of the places in the area were super packed with no chance of getting a seat or service. We just wanted a place with room to move that we could hang out at before the game. We found our spot at Mcfadden's! It is literally steps away from PNC park and very close to Heinz field. They have a huge bar area with TV's everywhere you look and TONS of space to hang out or grab a seat. They even had a real-life DJ playing music----WHAT?!?! How fun is that!!! The music was loud but the selections were one's you couldn't help but smile and sing along with. The game day crowd didn't stop us from quickly being served at a table near the bar. The tap selections were impressive and we loved the mix of Irish and American mash-up items on the menu. We decided to share the Reuben dip, Randy's Rueben, and mango habanero wings. They did not disappoint! Possibly one of the best Rueben's we have ever had, although still up for debate between my husband and I. The service was excellent and the server had some great recommendations for things to see next time we visit Pittsburgh. For being so busy on a game day, everything was exceptional. We were having so much fun that it was hard to leave for the game. When it comes to pregaming in Pittsburgh, we have finally found our forever home in Mcfadden's! read more

2 bartenders on after the baseball game and one server watching the wings game on the tv the whole night, took us 20 mins to get a drink and then when i ordered 5 shot of washington apples i was charged 42$ for 5 of them!! really? seems high, and she poured the extra shot in a cup for a friend 4 seats down from me! i asked the server how much those shots are she said 7 $ each so 7 times 5 is $35 not $42 i ask the manager about it,, he told me he would check it out and she probably hit the button on the screen one time extra by accident but she was never over by the computer the whole time i ordered drinks or paid!! umm so she never rang it up while i was standing there! the manager never came back to me, he avoided me the rest of the time over 30 mins so we got up and left! never be back AGAIN!! bartender and the manager dont care! just after youre cash stealing from the bar! read more

Wish I had read some of these reviews before I actually went there. Whatever the system is that they try to use to run this place, it doesn't work. The food was fine, once it came and was correct. The service was mostly bad-but was done with a smile. We went before a Pirates game on a Tuesday evening, expecting a crowd but it really wasn't overly crowded. The young lady seating us went out of her way to get us a table. That was about the end of the good service, unfortunately. We waited for 10 minutes before our presence was even acknowledged by our "waitress", when she said she would be right back. Another 5 minutes or so go by and she finally comes back to take our orders. It took 10 more minutes just to get our drinks. Our appetizer never came, and one (out of two) orders was not right when the food did get served...35 minutes later. It was hot and pretty good. But sorry, a fried fish sandwich and a burger shouldn't take 35 minutes. Add on to that the fact that another drink was ordered, which also never came. And BTW-the drinks were just coke. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! THE WORST BAR I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO. Im 30 and have been to bars all over the east coast. I went here for New years eve 2010. Cover charge was $40 dollars to enter. By the time i got there it was $10 per person. Spent $20 to get my girlfriend and i in. It was absolutely filthy inside, over crowed. I could'nt even get to the bar to get a drink. I was visiting some friends in Pittsburgh, so we went back the next night to see the Winter classic. I was standing in the back right corner, near a temporary bar that was setup. The management is so smart, they put this right in the way of where the staff comes through with garbage, and ice. So as you are waiting for a drink at this makeshift bar, people want to get by to dump garbage, cardboard, and get ice. As i was standing watching the game, i heard a bunch of yelling. Figuring it was guys yelling at the game i paid no attention. As i turned, i realized the staff was making a garbage run, and was trying to get though. THE FIRST GUY IN THE GARBAGE TRAIN SHOVED A CART FULL OF BOXES IN MY CHEST. HE SAID "GO, GO, GO" SO AFTER PAYING 20 BUCKS TO GET IN I GET TREATED LIKE SHIT. Im 240lb and 6'0 i wasnt happy! We went to McFadden's on a semi busy summer Sunday (not football season). We (4 people) were seated and not greeted for 10+ minutes. When we were greeted (because we flagged a waitress down who had walked by us at least a dozen times) we asked, "are you are server?" her response was "Yah.". Nothing else but silence..Awkward. So we ordered our beers which took at least 8-10 minutes to receive. We knew we were in trouble on time, so we immediately placed our order when she returned. Easy as pie: 4 side salads all ranch and two order of 'boneless wings'. 1 HOUR LATER: "Oh your food is in the window and don't worry my managers taking care of it" then 10 more minutes roll by..we order more beers but they never show. Finally our food arrived. Salad was sub par at best, but the wings ($11 an order) were chicken fingers, NOT wings and tasted worse than ANYtizers you buy in the frozen food section. Worst, worst, WORST. We got our checks and realized she put $8 beers on our tabs that no one had ordered. We didn't have time to care at that point since our dinner and check process took over an hour and 45 minutes so we just paid and left. P.S. don't plan on having a conversation because they blast music to the point where their speaker system is crackling. I would never recommend this place. Figure it out, McFadden's. read more
