Great vibe in this place and you feel it right when you walk in - super quaint, like stepping into a nice Scottish/British gastro-pub. It's a bit confusing at first - you don't enter from the "front" of the house; rather, you head around to the back, just off the small parking lot under the balcony. You enter directly into the lovely stone walled bar area that has a decent number of dining tables. There's an upstairs that looks quite different. We - far & away - preferred the downstairs. Much better ambiance. The place was already humming at 5pm! We took the last open table (we had a reservation). Our server came to the table pretty quickly to welcome us, put down menus, and let us know that their draft beer system was on the fritz (what?!) - had been since the day prior. Ack! But they had a really good brown ale in cans from nearby Hazel Grove Brewing, which we had been wanting to try anyway. We ordered our meal pretty soon after, as the place got even busier. But that's when things got a bit harrier. The wait staff got more & more overwhelmed, and the kitchen was overwhelmed, too, clearly as it took 40+ mins for our appetizer to come. But it was good. The goat cheese toast w/ yummy homemade tomato jam. The sliced French bread it was on could've been toasted more - for sure - but the flavors all played really well together. Another 40 mins later, we got our meals, which was fine - we were enjoying each others' company. But we couldn't get our waters refilled to save our lives, & it took forever to get another round of beers. People at other tables were getting restless waiting, too. Three of the 4 of us ordered fish & chips for dinner. The fish was huge - beer battered haddock. The tartar sauce - homemade- was mild and flavorful. The hand cut fries were good, but my sisters-in-law substituted with sweet potato fries - and those were *really* good. My hubs got the bangers & mash which he said "wasn't bad." The peas were fresh and good, and he really liked the mashed potatoes, but sausage was just "meh," he said. No one came to clear our table as people finished their dishes. The 1st beer glasses sat on the table, as did our appetizer dish. As a group, we ordered bread pudding to share for dessert. To my shock, the server was actually going to cram it onto our table with ALL the dirty dinner/appetizer dishes still there! I said, "No no. We need to have these taken away." We started stacking dishes for him to remove. I mean, yuck! We were trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt on some of the other stuff - he was totally crushed under an avalanche of customers - but that was a bridge too far. As for the dessert - it was a huge serving with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream & a swirl of caramel on top. I thought it was a bit like eating a good apple pie, but my fam wasn't impressed at all (they all love bread pudding). One sis-in-law said it was way too firm and just seemed like the ingredients had been buzzed up and mashed together. BUT --- it was a good night, and we'll be back. I think we would opt for a week night, instead. Hopefully, it will be a bit less busy. And definitely, we want to try the patio. It looks really quaint with all the white twinkle lights. The parking situation is a bit tough for anyone with special needs. One sis got the one (I think) handicap spot near the door (the other small handful of spots were taken); the other sis had to park up a rather steep hill (she waited while we retrieved her car for her when we were done). There's a decent amount of street parking, but I don't know what that situation is like if you come after 5p/530p.

We wanted to relive the London pub vibe... we found it! The historic pub transports you back to the 18th century while still cozy and fun! We started with the scotch eggs and bread. The scotch eggs were fantastic. Loved the pork and breading. The Dijon aioli was a perfect accompaniment. The bread was warm and tasty. I ordered the fish pie. It was so flavorful! Warm mashed potatoes and a fish stew all in one! This is pub fare that is good home cooking. Great seasoning in the pie. My wife loved her chicken sandwich - it had goat cheese and was beyond tender and juicy. Her chips were fried to perfection. The interior is beautiful, especially the basement bar. The food and vibes were great. I could hear the chef yelling - no exaggeration - when the food was up. This sudden interjection was odd, but if food is this good, I don't mind the outburst for a food runner. This place is a must try!

Found this place in Resy, and booked it for a Saturday. Really fun location and interior, pretty tasty chicken tikka masala and nice service. Four stars for one reason alone, we were sitting on the top of the stairs and every couple minutes the kitchen would scream out an order that was so loud it was a legit jump scare. There has to be a better system, I get it's an old house with two floors but I'm in there dropping $60 and I felt on edge. Pains me to not leave 5 stars but have to be honest.

This is the most unassuming hidden place in Hazelwood. The vibes are so fun and inviting, but the food is fantastic! Everything was good, no one was disappointed. Highly recommend the pot roast mac and scotch eggs. I mean just so good. The upstairs is a darker more intimate setting while the downstairs is more of the historic stone bar. This place in the summer would be PERFECT! Please go out of your way to try this hidden gem. Loved!

The Woods House is a cozy Scottish-style pub with warm vibes and hearty, traditional fare. We started with the Scotch eggs, which were a first for both of us--and surprisingly delicious. For our mains, my partner went with the fish pie, a comforting and flavorful choice, while I had the apple salad with salmon, which was light and fresh. We couldn't leave without dessert and the seasonal bread pudding (butterscotch) was the perfect sweet ending--warm, soft, and just the right amount of indulgent. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was inviting. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation, especially on weekend.

This place is very interesting and unique, the lower floor feels like you're in a little pub in the English countryside. We were seated by the fire and it was so cozy! Only a few seats in here, perhaps more upstairs but I didn't look. We weren't too hungry so just ordered the potato and leek soup and split the fish and chips. I've never had a potato soup that wasn't smooth before - wasn't what I expected, which was fine, but the flavor was just okay, could have used a bit more seasoning. The fish & chips were phenomenal. The breading on the fish was perfectly crispy. I also enjoyed how the bread was toasted, really added a little somethin somethin to the dish. Service was friendly but a disorganized! Several people came by our table and there were some points of confusion over whether we had ordered already, or what needed to happen next.

The Woods House for dinner is the definition of yummy comfort food! I went there yesterday and I liked how unique and cozy the former house/current pub is. There's two levels, each with a different vibe. The cocktails we got were excellent and don't let all the brown food fool you - sometimes the best food is brown food. I enjoyed my first ever Scotch eggs, the goat cheese toast is delightful, and those fries really hit the spot. I took home the pecan cinnamon roll bread pudding with pumpkin pie ice cream and it was the perfect breakfast. Our service was decent, nothing notable either way.

Ok, this was a tough review for me. The building and location are a 5. The drinks a 5. The food was mixed, 3-4. I had fish and chips. Standard pub fare. The fish was excellent. The fries, eh. Some were just soggy. My partner got the fish Shepard's pie. Great idea, but it lacked flavor. Maybe that's just what I should expect from British food! The mashed potatoes on top could have used a little more browning. The Scottish egg was interesting, but I would have liked more spice in the sausage! Overall I liked the restaurant and will definitely come back. I'd like to visit in the summer and check out the deck!

Really nice space. I'm a huge fan of old time pubs, and this is one of the best examples I've found in this part of the country. The menu was fairly targeted on general British and Scottish fare, with some liberties taken to adopt some modern trends. The cocktail list was well done, but it seemed like the kind of place where I just wanted to order a Guinness. The food was well done, but I tend to think that the historic space and associated vibe was the best part of the experience. The staff were friendly. The atmosphere was low key and comfortable. I was surprised to find that the place was busy enough that it would have been a good idea to make reservations ahead of time. Good for them. All-in-all this was a great experience, if you're looking for an old-time pub (like I am). I wouldn't call it a food destination, but the atmosphere was fantastic.

First time and will not be the last! Cutest traditional pub with a Scottish accent located in a historic stone house in Hazelwood. Not a ton of seating, reservations are highly recommended. First floor seating with a balcony, basement seating and "backyard" seating. The basement bar is stunning!!!! Most delicious food! Highly recommend the Scottish eggs and Guinness Pot Roast Mac & Cheese!

We finally got the chance to make it for dinner to Woods House tonight and were not disappointed. The Scottish pub rustic vibe was on point especially including the little fireplace in the corner. We ordered the Guinness pot roast mac that was delicious. We plan to return in warmer months when we can enjoy the outside area!

Absolutely love going to The Woods House! According to an employee there, it is the second oldest building in the city (after Fort Pitt). Beautifully renovated, it definitely stands out in its location in a residential area of Hazelwood. The food is fantastic - I've taken plenty of family and friends here and everyone's loved what they had. I get the potato leek soup every time I go (delicious and the bread is sooo good). The summer menu is different from their winter one, but looking forward to seitan Guinness pie hopefully back on the menu soon for winter! The Mac and cheese is also delicious. When I first visited, they didn't have any Scottish beer which was disappointing. However, I went last weekend and they had a couple that were delicious! Hoping they continue to get more Scottish beer and themed cocktails. Highly recommend this unique spot and to my knowledge, the only Scottish restaurant in Pittsburgh!

We visited the Woods House on a cold winters night. When we arrived, they told us that the main dining area was closed due to a staffing issue and we were seated at the bar. The bar area was cozy and rustic, but a bit chilly! Our bartender was super friendly and helpful. We ordered a half order of the scotch egg (1 egg) to start. The sausage was juicy, the fry was great, and the mustard sauce was tasty, but the egg itself felt a bit overcooked. We proceeded to the mussels, which are AMAZING. Seriously the best mussels we have ever had EVER. I have no idea what they're doing to them or where they're sourcing them from but they were so flavorful, tender, and perfectly cooked. The broth was amazing and great soaked up into the bread. Definitely a must order if you like mussels. The bangers and mash were a miss for us. The dish on the whole lacked salt, the sausage was pretty dry and tough, the peas were dry and lacked flavor, and the mash was just fine. The gravy was good but couldn't salvage the dish. For dessert we got the pecan cinnamon roll bread pudding which was mediocre. It was pretty dry for a bread pudding, the cinnamon roll felt a bit stale, and the ice cream flavor wasn't my favorite. They had a nice draft list and the cocktail menu looked good, my husband enjoyed his walnut old fashioned. All in all, I'd definitely try the woods house again and maybe try some different menu items. It's a unique location with a lot of potential and I think they may be still getting in their groove.

BEST PITTSBURGH WING…read more We were absolutely not expecting this and still can't believe it. We didn't have major expectations but hoped it would be at least a top 5 wing and average meal. It was beyond that The French onion soup we saw online and everyone seemed to enjoy that. We're whores for it so had to get. I like mine a tad bit salty which this was and PACKED with onion chunks and breaded leeks on top. It was impossible to get a spoon fully without any inclusions. My new favorite The Tavern Burger. I'm coming fresh off 9 years without 5 Guys (elite) and this rocked me harder than that. This isn't a stupid smash burger. We got a juicy COOKED PERFECT RARE 8oz patty, topped with sautéed onions, and bacon that isn't crisped to smithereens. I like my bacon medium rare and that's exactly what I got. Then covered in one of the craziest sauces I have ever had, their gorgonzola cream. I could drink that by the gallon The wings.... I have never had a wing itself cooked more perfect in my life. The smoke and meatiness on them was so nailed that I could get 2 dozen plain and still have the same reaction. We got the Buffalo Garlic and Dry Cajun Ranch. These wings don't need drenched in sauce by any means or it would honestly ruin it. The buffalo doesn't ned to be creamy either. Perfect amount of sauce to cheese ration. The dry cajun ranch was a fucking knockout. For how great the wing is I would love to see more dry season options with them Cam got a Tavern Dip. I hate dips. I loved the shaved ribeye on it and horseradish, but I have never been an Au Jus man. Would 100000% eat it without the au jus Then the fries. Always team psoriasis through and through. Not sure if I'm coming off the Five Guys high but their cajun boardwalk style are even better. Get some spicy honey aioli to dip them in. Truly just shocked at how amazing this place is. Right over the bridge and cannot recommend enough going here before a game and walking over. Great spot right before, after and during sports. LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.
