It was a Pirates game night, and the fans were starting to roll in. We grabbed dinner before the game and were pretty underwhelmed. Service was very slow, with long lapses. The food was good- Philly Steak Nachos with Tater Tots ($16) and an Italian Deli Panini ($14) with Onion Rings ($3). Soft drinks were $3 each. Besides the service issues, we found the restaurant to be in a state of disrepair. The tables were very "icky-sticky". Oh, let's talk about the restrooms too. There are three paper towel dispensers in each restroom. In the men's room all 3 were empty. In the ladies' room, one was empty. Now in baseball 2 out of 6 equates to a .300 batting average which is terrific. But when it comes to availability of paper towels, that's an epic fail. read more

I hadn't been to McFaddens in ages, tho we used to go often enough that they'd hand me my drink as soon as I got to the bar. Sadly, they changed their burgers (previously good) to smashburgers. I'm not a fan of those, so I don't know how theirs compare. I got a wrap and tho the chips weren't as good as before, the chicken in my grilled chicken wrap was perfectly prepared & very tender. The egg rolls were also delicious! Service wasn't great, even before they got crowded, but it was good enough. I was surprised that tho they remodeled some the floor is still the same horrible sticky floor that reminds me of a dive bar or gray party. They also have a bathroom attendant which I (& my allergies) hate. I'm allergic to perfumes and it was horrible. They did allow children in the dining area, which was a surprise and worked well for our group. I'm not sure if this policy (not carding at the door) is in place for games or even all concerts, so if you're dining with children before a game or show, I'd recommend calling to ask. I was scared by the bad reviews but our experience here was amazing! We stopped in about an hour and a half before a pirates game and although it was busy we were seated within 10 min (when everywhere else around was completely packed). Service was quick and friendly and OMG... the classic loaded Irish "nachos" (cheese fries) were to die for!!! There was so much delicious cheese sauce and queso and I added some extra buffalo sauce that really set it off. Would definitely come eat here before a game again. read more

This place is hit or miss but mostly miss. I've been here a couple times and it was okay and I've also been here a couple times and it sucked really bad. I'd say if you go here before or after a game it's not going to be a great experience because the staff can be rather rude due to it being so busy and it taking them forever to serve you food and/or drinks. But then again that should be the best time to go here and they should be on their A game because that's when they should be their most impressionable to make sure customers keep coming back due to having a great experience. Decided to drop in after a ball game and wait for traffic to thin out. Was immediately seated and few minutes later the waitress stopped by to get our drink orders. The noise level was so loud because of the music that my friend and I could hear each other even though we were sitting opposite each other. Drinks arrive, and we're ready to order. My friend, a very picky eater, ordered a plain hamburger with mustard, pickles, and onions. I ordered the Cubano with tater tots. The food arrives, and since there are no condiments on the table, we ask for ketchup, salt and pepper. My friend's burger was perfect, a rarity for her. Usually, she has to send it back to be more fully cooked (she was not asked how she wanted her burger done. It just came out medium-well). Now this is where things went south. The food server, not our waitress, brought out a little condiment cup with some salt, two (2) paper packets of pepper and another condiments cup of ketchup. Something you'd expect at Arby's or Taco Bell, not a bar restaurant. I asked if it was Heinz ketchup because it just didn't taste right. Not bad but just not right. Turns out it wasn't. Who doesn't serve Heinz ketchup ? In Pittsburgh, of all places ? My Cubano sandwich was extremely disappointing. Probably the worst Cubano I've ever been served. Normally a Cubano is roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard pressed (aka, Panini). This sandwich was a little ham, Swiss, shredded pork (and very dry pork, at that), no pickles, salami, pepperoni, possibly a slight touch mustard (there may have been some yellow but you definitely couldn't taste mustard) pressed. Avoid this place at all costs. Particularly if you're are a POC. The staff is incredibly rude, the place is filthy, and the food is disgusting. I went this past Monday following the Steelers vs Texans game to meet a few coworkers. Some random guy starts talking to me and proceeded to drop a couple n-words into the conversation. Now, this isn't my first encounter with racism so the word doesn't send me over the edge of being violent or irate, but I absolutely checked this guy. I asked him what makes him so comfortable saying that to me especially with everything going on in the world right now. As we're having this conversation his friends start to surround me and shortly after security is grabbing me. I explain to security this guy is calling me the n-word and using it unnecessarily in conversation. The security says they don't care what happened I was being way too aggressive and causing a disturbance. So they take me outside and I'm pissed at this point. As I'm outside security is trying to convince me they also removed the other guy involved, but took him out the rear exit to avoid a confrontation escalating outside. Sounds reasonable, but I knew they were lying to my face. So I waited out front to see if the guy ever came out. Sure enough 15-20 mins later the guy walks out. You sorry, no good, descendants of cavemen. I've already contacted the police to attempt to get security footage as well as my lawyer to see what further legal action can be taken. I'm hoping this review deters people from supporting this shit hole. I don't know how it's still open with all the health code violations, but I will do everything in my power to expedite the demise of this poor excuse for a business. Let's pause for a moment and be thankful for Groupon. Okay. For $13 you get $30 of food, or beer, according to our bartender. Great! Any time I can save some money, it's a good day. I ordered the potato pancakes, and the McFaddy MacDaddy. Josh got the 24/7 burger. So, it is positively obvious that they have one cook, with access to a microwave and a deep fryer. Everything flew out of the kitchen in less than 10 minutes. The pancakes were misleading in the menu, making it seem like they were going to be somewhat homemade, or an amazing version that you wouldn't be able to tell that a big truck brought in a month ago. I digress. They were sad little pucks. But, salted and served with creole seasoning mixed with sour cream, they kind of redeemed themselves. Burgers. I love burgers. But these only came over cooked, and mine, with mac and cheese was just plain pasta with a slice of cheese plopped on top of it. The bacon was off the hook, though. Josh's burger was all kind of heart disease friendly. Egg, bacon, meat, and syrup. He liked it. But he likes everything. Service is amazing. I have had a friend win the half off drinks party a few times. That is the reason I've gone aside from once on a Steelers Sunday. It's usually fun, nice, and cheap (especially when someone wins the half off drinks VIP.) This bar is never my first North Shore choice, but it has been fun when I've gone. Pretty dark inside. McFadden's was the one place near Stage AE that we'd put off going to, but in all sobriety, I had a commendable pre-concert meal here recently. Our appetizer, the cream cheese-based Kilmore Quay Crab Dip, was loaded with lump crab meat and baby spinach, making it an ooey gooey mortar for the chewy but crisp garlic pita toast points that were tasty enough to be eaten plain, quite frankly. A similar starter from Thee Olde Place Inn was pleasantly recalled. In regards to my main course, I did something I have never done before. When my medium-rare burger came to the table with all the pink and juiciness cooked out of it, I sent it back. The exchange resulted in a profit of flavor via a luscious, rosy patty that dripped flavor like a honeydew melon. The Steel City Burger giddily defames Primanti Brothers by including a milky cole slaw (instead of a vinaigrette slaw) and peeled french fries (adequately prepared to boot) inside a wrinkled, glossy, soft, buttered bun. Each bite was creamy, crunchy, carnivorous joy. A helping of housemade, cauldron-crisp potato chips completed the entree for me in sea-salted, can't-eat-just-one, gourmet supermarket fashion. And there was a time when I thought New York Deli's purple bags of chips were the snack food pinnacle. Damn, was I young and sheltered. Ah! Fashion. Well, I may not recall our server's name, but I do recall that she was dressed like any other gal you'd see walking or jogging about in comfortable athletic attire. Lascivious? Revealing? First time I went, it was great food and waiter was super nice and made me and my friend a great drink. Months later, I decided to take a large group of family and friends after a concert for food and drinks. Husband was treated horribly after we entered with a bouncer ripping something out of his pocket from behind with no warning and when I saw our previous waiter (red bearded male) at the bar I described the drink and had asked him about the name of the drink and ordering it again. He was super arrogant and rude and treated me like I was a total idiot. We sat down for a moment and the chairs, tables and menus were all sticky so we ended up leaving and ordering a pizza back at the hotel. I was embarrassed I even suggested the place. Also like to mention I had left a voicemail and email for a table for before the concert to celebrate 2 birthdays and never received any type of response. Never again! I get it is a bar near the stadiums, so the entree prices were high but not unacceptable. However, I asked for extra celery and was told there would be a $3 charge. Three dollars for four pieces of celery?! Extra blue cheese was also insanely over priced. Most places will give you celery for free or maybe charge fifty cents. But three dollars?! And when I questioned the price the server said "does that mean you don't want it? It's not that expensive" If you are a 21-25 year old single male, maybe you would enjoy this place.
