I ordered a 2014 Ford Flex limited 3.5 from Mcfarland Ford in 2014,I have taken care of it and never skipped a maintenance interval. The car ran like a charm. I had an issue earlier this year 2025,where I had to have the differential rebuilt.$2000.00 !!!!! ouch. I was told during a maintenance visit in august 2025 that my water pump was leaking and would need to be replaced. The service agent at MCFARLAND FORD told me that the water pump is internal and would cost me $4500 just to replace the water pump and would be north of $5000 if the timing chain is to be replaced which he recomended.after researching this problem found out that FORD had victimized thousands of customers due to this ridiculous design that repair wise, is no doubt is a cash cow for this company. Why is/was there was not a TSB ( Technical Service Bulletin) recall/work around solution issued for this motor to the customers who were no doubt lied to/or had info withheld/not shared on this catastrophic financial ticking time bomb to correct this problem or suck up the majority of the repair cost. A class action was in play regarding this faulty(intentional?) design until a judge dismissed it(probably paid off by Ford)so now the suckers who before buying these cars with this motor design with an internal water pump without being forewarned about this lemon design and are on the hook to pay for this repair without any assistance/culpability from FORD.I know this as I went to MCFARLAND FORD in Exeter NH for assistance who I have been dealing with since 2009.In the past, I had 2 ford taurus wagons the 1st a 1999 that I put 285000 on it.I then bought another Taurus wagon that went to 395000 miles (about 635690.88 km)that they serviced for that vast majority of those miles with no issues. I also have a ford fusion with 214000 miles (about 344399.62 km) on it that they have serviced the vast majority of the life of that car as well and is still running. I would think MCFARLAND FORD would have shown some good will/good faith. I explained to them they sold me a car with a faulty design and need assistance relief with labor costs and asked him/Brandon to put this repair in line with the current models that have an external water pump that would take a fraction of the time to repair and this zillion dollar company FORD, needs to eat the labor on the vast majority of this repair. Brandon basically gave me the side eye/stink eye yea right face who rolled his eyes and told me basically to stick it.this is the service manager Brandon who gave me some serious push back/attitude implying that they are not Ford and have nothing to do with Ford or the design/we just sell em and fix em.Brandon basically denied he has anything to do with Ford.....an employee who is working at a ford dealership.Brandon.I certainly let him know how I felt after his unprofessional response and gave it right back to him after he said I was being a "DICK" and have not heard a thing from MCFARLAND FORD in regards to helping me and sucking it up/owning up to this ridiculous design. Zero good will after doing 16 years of business with MCFARLAND FORD. This car is 14 yrs old with 116000 miles (about 186683.9 km) on it ordered straight from McFarland Ford. I did not buy this off the lot. The fact is that it's not how old it is, its the design and no way around the repair COST no matter when this water pump lets go. Why would I ever buy another ford again or deal with these people ever again who refuse to stand by their product ? paying $4500-5000 + for this repair would almost total this car between the water pump and repairing the differential ($2000) this year. What else is next on this car ?116000 is not a lot of miles. They have used cars on the lot with more mile than that. I also left a message for the ownership Chris Lane, who never responded to my concerns what so ever.Mr money bags can certainly with no problem keep opening up new dealerships left and right all over the seacoast no problem. I also called FORD in Dearborn Michigan who were also unresponsive and offered zero help. What a horrible company to treat a Ford customer who has put almost three quarters of a million miles of driving and to be crapped on and dismissed is outragous.The FORD flex wagon is now a junker that will sit in my driveway and rot after spending $49,999 for a lemon that Ford will never ever own up to OR STAND BY and take responsibility for their lemon design/product that they certainly had no problem bringing to market. I called Mcfarland Ford's the service dept on 1/12/24 for a quote to replace the water pump on my car, was told they would call me back within the day with a quote. On 1/13/24 I called again and left a message as to why I hadn't heard from them about my quote. On 1/14/24 I emailed Portsmouth Ford asking for the same quote as i need to have my car fixed. On Monday 1/15/24 Portsmouth called me at 9am with a fair quote but couldn't get my car in until the 25th. Needing to have this car fixed was imperative for my husband's job. My brother in law has a mechanic that he uses faithfully in Massachusetts, i called him on the 15th and he took my car right in....in fact i got it back fixed with extras on 1/17/24 and paid A LOT LESS then both quotes from Ford...Moral of this story....Mcfarland Ford in Rochester, NH is NOT dependable. PS... I called on 1/17/24 to ask why i never heard from them...the gentleman that I spoke to asked me for my info and said..."Oh i have your quote right here" and quoted me $3500!!!!! Could not have been happy with my sales person Cassie and the support team of Bruce and Rob behind her. They were all kind, good to talk to as I made my decision and helpful as I signed all the papers. Did I go in thinking I was going to walk out with a new vehicle? No so, you obviously think I must have been pressured...also, no. Cassie allowed me to take my time, ask a millions questions (a lot of stupid ones) and weigh in on what I actually wanted to do. Overall, I am extremely happy with how everything went! I had to run out as it was the end of the day but, I return on Friday to go over all the buttons, features and soft top so I don't end up breaking something. The entire sales and finance team was extremely professional, courteous and most critically unlike other dealers in this crazy time McFarland provided an extremely competitive deal at a few cents under MSRP. They also gave me what I thought was a very fair value for my trade, even with a bit of damage to the tailgate, when compared to values on KBB and other sites. Absolutely terrible service. The whole experience with this dealership was just horrible. I wish i did not purchase from them. First of all the sales person, Heather - Espenlaub opened her mouth before actually asking her supervisor. I live in Indiana more than 900 miles away! I explained to them how I was going to purchase this car in full. They wanted a down payment. First, it was 500 then it was 200 then she tells me that I probably won't need to do any down payment at all. Then she calls me back saying 200. That really upset me. Then after reading the sales receipt, I noticed A mistake on their end with the pricing. I called her back. She said she would give me a call after emailing the new sales receipt. But instead, I get a callback and she tells me her manager said its a no go. That they won't be changing the sales receipt and because i didn't give them a down payment they weren't going to sell me the car. ( which I feel is reasonable not to put a down payment is that I never actually saw the car and really couldn't answer any of my questions about it) and what the h***. They were very pushy about wanting a down payment and about wanted a certified check. Telling me that I needed to overnight it with tracking numbers, being just plain bossy. Well, I bought the car anyways and they screwed me out of 1500 dollars to get it to me. The driver left earlier than agreed. And they refused to turn him around. I wanted to take a plane to come to get the car. They told me no because he had bought his plane ticket and hotel which was a complete lie. Plus they charged me for carwashes during his travel that I never asked for. Bull crap! They are so shady. I finally get the car, it was great for a day and then the catalytic converter plugged up. Little miss heather seemed to not care at all. I had to garage the car 2 days after purchase! Then when I asked if they were going to give me my money back since it was messed up after day 2 she told me I had to go through a process which I was not about to put that much time and effort into something they were probably going to tell me I was sh** out of luck anyway. They were shady about everything else what stops them from doing it again. So, it's still garaged. PLUS I had money left over from the shipping and it never was sent to me. I called to ask about it and Heather said that it was such a little amount she decided to not send it to me at all. Excuse me?????? That's my money, rather it's $2 or $200 who are you to keep my money? She said well I never even charged you for overnighting the last check for the taxes. First off why charge me?!?!?! I never asked for it to be overnight shipped to me. She was supposed to send it out with the driver but she missed him, her fault not mine! And I was forced to buy another better car from a much more amazing dealership. I drove out to Missouri from Indiana to get a car from a different dealership, I landed me an amazing car with low miles and their service was amazing plus they never once pressured me to make a down payment. If you are traveling to buy a vehicle dont bother with this dealership, I recommend Nevada Auto Mall. And if you are local just find another dealership after reading a lot of reviews. Don't go with this place, you will get screwed one way or another. I do NOT recommend this place at all. 0 out of 5 stars. Service department constantly overlooks very obvious problems leading to unnecessary follow up visits. Very unclear with warranties and paperwork...it wasn't until I got home that I realized the car I just purchased didn't even have a manual! And they are completely unresponsive on the phone, and continue to put you on hold and pass you off to other people until you get tired of waiting and hang up. And then they have the nerve to constantly send you stupid promotional fliers in the mail and cards for the holidays pretending that they care. Awful awful awful. Not bad for a small and local dealership. If you are looking to buy new, be prepared to fight just to get Portsmouth Ford matched... and bring a flyer. They markup pin striping on all their cars to pad in some extra margin. After 4 hours of grinding I got a Portsmouth Ford ad match and maybe saved a few bucks on the doc fee and a better trade value. I did a few brief stints selling cars though, so your mileage may vary. I wasn't committed to buying here but went because it was close, and my wife's old car was such a POS I didn't want to drive it any further than I had to. Sold me a 2015 f150 3.5 eco boost with 26k miles, two years later the engine is junk at 38k miles,still owe $25k for 5 years, had it towed back to mcfarland were it sat for 6 weeks, then they told me they weren't going to warranty it, and its $11k for a new engine, never had this done to me i was super polite and patient, i had to pay to have it towed back home and recieved it back with a dead battery and bird poop all over it, the amount of i dont give a $&@& about you is unbelievable, now im left to put a motor in this truck and trade it in hoping i don't get screwed again from these guys, changed the oil myself with full sythetic oil at 3k miles 4 times, had new spark plugs when it went, truck was babied, never towed anything, driven on the weekends for pleasure, thank god i have my 16 year old subaru with 200k that still runs like a top....weird read more

Hi, From the moment I called the service department to the afternoon I picked my keys back up, I had nothing but Customer First Service!! I brought the car in just before 5pm (don't we "love" those kinds of customers) but everyone involved was patient, they listened to my theory on the problem, took it for a drive and then proceeded to make sure I had what I needed to get to work while they made the repairs. The experience was A-1. For me, customer service is the one thing I will always measure and the team at McFarland was terrific. No one likes the hassle of car troubles and McFarland Ford appreciates that. When a company you have dealt with for years takes advantage of your spouse you have no recourse. I made an appointment for an oil change and only an oil change. My wife took my truck in and Justin in service told her that it needed a fuel filter change which I had just changed. He used up sell tactics and made her think it was necessary because they didn't have it on there records. What he should have said was you can check with your husband. But No. He is a snake. I had a good sales experience in 2009 and good experience when I brought my 2007 Ford Freestyle into their repair shop for an oil change in 2009. But, when my Ford Freestyle hit 100,000 miles HOLY!!!! THE TOP OF THE ENGINE NEEDED A HUGE REPAIR - McFarland Ford told me it would cost $4500. Tiger's (on Rte 27 in Exeter) diagnosed a timing chain guide broke and charged me $1400. 2 blissful months and 3,000 miles and it needed brakes. It needed pads (normal), rotors (normal enough) and calipers (for the 2nd time)!!! Then 3 weeks later the brake lines were corroded and rotted out (What?!?!?! in a 4 year old car!!!). I replaced the brake lines. 3 weeks later the transmission went. McFarland Ford offered me absolutely nothing - - not even a tow to their shop! The car was a lemon. They offered nothing. Worse!!!! Ford finally recalled parts of the transmission.... as if the dealership had no idea that the Freestyles had transmission problems. And the worst part of this horrible and expensive experience was that when I priced a Ford Freestyle transmission, Ford didn't manufacture very many (and it was an unusual CVT transmission) so the transmission would have been $3500 just for the part. This car, the dealer, Ford and Bank of America (who was equally horrible to deal with in the aftermath of this lemon) caused my family huge financial hardship. The kind of fallout caused by one lemon vehicle and a business without conscience for its neighbor customers was beyond what I every could have managed as a single mother. Thousands of dollars wasted to fix a new car when I should have had that money to take care of my family's basic needs. Thanks for nothing McFarland Ford, Ford and Bank of America for destroying my savings, my credit score and causing me enormous stress. read more

I purchased a Focus here, and received a very good deal. The car was brand new and steeply discounted as they were rolling that model year off the lot to make room for the next year. I had no hassle receiving a test drive and financing was a cinch. Next time I will probably go through my regular bank for a loan as I did not find the Ford Financing website to be convenient. (No complaints about the rate though). I have serviced my car here for oil changes and inspections. I think the rates are middling, yeah I could get oil changes cheaper elsewhere. Sometimes I trade off the extra few dollars for the free shuttle service they offer to and from my workplace. (That way the car is serviced while I'm at work, not during my free time). Make sure you sign up for the service rewards here, kind of like a frequent shopper card. I have received coupons for free oil changes and the like out of it. The waiting room/coffee is nothing special, prepare to be bored in there! (Unless Judge Judy is on, that helps) read more

My experience with McFarland Ford was perhaps one of the worst customer experiences that I've had in my lifetime. The salesperson was completely unprofessional, the sales manager was belligerent and condescending, and they misrepresent their vehicle prices on the internet, presumably to attract inquiries. I have been a Ford buyer all my life, but I would never consider purchasing a vehicle from this dealership. I have reported my experience to the Consumer Affairs division within the state, as well as with the BBB, and would suggest that if others have similar experiences, that they report them as well. Businesses have to be accountable for their actions, and it's important that we as consumers share our experiences with others, so that poor customer service is addressed and remedied. Ford makes a fine vehicle, but McFarland Ford is not the place in which to purchase one. read more

I've used McFarland Ford for 3 cars now - about one every ten years. I bought my latest a year ago, and wanted to wait a year before reviewing. It's a little Fiesta, and I am very happy with it. A great little car - I don't think they make them anymore - too bad. As you might expect, buying a new car every ten years leads to both sticker shock and technology shock. There are do-dads on this Fiesta that I still haven't figured out. But the folks there found me a sweet little car in the color I wanted and a price I could handle, with an excellent financing deal. After the initial 'shocks', I now realize that the purchase was a good one. Their service department is trustworthy. They will tell you if you don't need something. They're competent, but if you're female, expect the men at the service desk to be rude, dismissive and treat you like your'e stupid. I stood there for a good 15 minutes (and I had an appointment) while they ignored me. And then when I tried to get their attention, they acted like I was being high-maintenance. They also brought my car in for its oil change about 40 minutes after my appointment. My time is valuable. That's why I made an appointment. They also refuse to put MY car under MY name.
