This place is located in the Harpeth hotel where we are staying. We strolled in for a morning coffee and decided to stay for breakfast. The lattes were absolutely perfect. We got an omelette to split and they split it on two plates for us without being asked... so nice. The omelet was delicious. Downtown Franklin's boutique Harpeth Hotel houses this European-style café. McGavock's is visually stunning, has about 4 larger tables for families/groups, a coffee bar bench for solo people, and several smaller tables for couples/smaller groups. they have a full breakfast menu, lunch menu, pastries, snacks to go, and of course a full espresso/coffee menu. True to downtown Franklins rep, I felt like I was on the set of a Hallmark movie. I treated myself to the Sausage, Egg, & Cheese Croissant and a Cappuccino (hot, oatmilk, with 2 pumps vanilla). I was so impressed with the quality of the croissant - buttery, flaky, crispy, melt in your mouth goodness. The staff are so warm, attentive, and friendly! Loved the whole experience, felt like I was traveling myself which was a nice treat this weekend. There is also a cute bookshelf of gift local items available to purchase - perfect for those wanting a last minute souvenir from their visit. I found free street parking a few blocks down early on a Sunday morning before it gets too busy, but there are paid lots closer by. They also have cocktails, wine, and beer and are the amazing hosts of the pop-up Elf-themed Christmas bar "The World's Best Cup of Coffee," I hope it's okay I am including a throwback to my visit back in 2022 for Christmas in July! read more

Enjoyed a recent visit to this coffee shop while staying at the hotel. I plan to come back when in Franklin as the food was very clean and fresh. The pancakes were out of this world. Service was good, you order the food at the register and they deliver to your table. They have a great outdoor patio for sitting as well as inside seating. This coffee shop is in a convenient location just off Main Street in downtown Franklin, and is attached to The Harpeth hotel. The coffee is always good, and the service is generally attentive. I have found that the tables could often use to be wiped down, but I think this is in part because they get a relatively large number of transient customers from the hotel. Overall a good spot to get a coffee and relax for a bit. Also a good location to work from. read more

We were looking for a late breakfast and bumped into McGavock's on our way to a different restaurant. We never paid it much attention prior as we kind of jumped it into the "hotel coffee shop" category. Upon entering McGavock's we received a warm welcome from the staff which we were pleased to receive as that doesn't always occur these days. The manager came out and greeted us as well. We liked the atmosphere and the spacing between tables. We felt like a part of the community while having enough space for a private conversation. They had a variety of flavors of self serve coffee available. I poured my own coffee from one of the containers. The manager noticed that I had some grinds in my coffee, which I didn't mind....but she did. She grabbed me a new cup and poured me some coffee from a full container. We ordered their breakfast bagel. There were delicious and made with fresh ingredients. We will definitely be repeat customers. read more

It hits the spot and the toast and jam are fantastic. We love sitting outside on nice days but today was rainy so we were inside. Full disclosure - we literally just stopped in to get some coffee so I have no feedback on food or dine in experience. However I found the counter experience to be very good. Order was taken and clarified by our barista, and prepared just like we asked. The fun part was that during the holidays, this is decorated full out! Many ELF references and just being there spreads cheer! Prices are in line with Franklin businesses. They had live music (not sure if it was because of the holiday season or if this is normal). The food was amazing especially the pot belly and grits. The baristas were pleasant. I was staying at the beautiful Harpeth hotel and called the coffee shop to try to place an order while I was on my way out of the hotel. A woman answered the phone and instantly sounded annoyed to be speaking on the phone. I asked for two iced lattes and asked if she recommended anything on the food/breakfast menu and she rudely said I could look it up myself on the website. I explained to her I couldn't find the menu on the website and if there was any item she would recommend and she sounded annoyed, sighed, and hung up. I tried calling again twice and no one picked up.. I then showered and 20min later went downstairs to the coffee shop and there were two woman standing behind the counter chatting with no customers and when I asked if they had gotten the iced lattes I ordered they both laughed and one woman said "The call must have dropped." They didn't prepare the coffees I ordered and purposely hung up and wouldn't pick up after I called again. I get it, working in the service industry can be tough at times but there were no customers waiting for anything, the employees weren't busy, and they laughed when I asked about my order. I just went to another coffee shop after this experience. I've read similar bad experiences from customers of this coffee shop. The Harpeth hotel is amazing but whoever manages this coffee shop should consider hiring new staff that is service oriented. read more

As a long-time resident, this was a meeting place for me and a friend bc i had never been to the hotel... I thought we would be dining in the upscale restaurant 1799 for lunch, but i was informed it didn't open till 5pm... It was 11am, so i was directed to the little coffee shop I didn't know existed... It had limited seating inside, but some additional seating outside. The young employees were very friendly, but the older lady who appeared to be in charge, seemed very put off by me... She acted like she was offended when i asked about an entree on the menu and like she didn't understand what I was saying... The young clerk must've gathered her response didn't go over very well with me, so she responded quickly... She pointed out she knew exactly what I was asking and politely answered my question... I had asked a simple question, and i just expected a simple answer... The other lady (whom i was told was in a mngt position) stared me in the face, and gave me the impression she was offended I had any question at all... If it werent for the nice comments, big smiles, and eagerness to please customers, that the younger employees exhibit, I would not return.. I even overheard the "manager" speaking roughly to the younger employees, which completely irritated me... She was RUDE... A patron would expect to be treated graciously by all employees, especially those in management positions, at this establishment... The hotel in its entirety should want to uphold a good reputation, because it's the main hotel in downtown Franklin... Not only should it attract tourists, but it should also attract the local citizens in the area... I will be voicing my complaint, and I will go again, mainly to see if changes are made in the hospitality department... If so, i will frequent often with family and friends... If things don't change, there are plenty of places elsewhere that do welcome my patronage in the area. The food is attractive, in appearance and in description... It's a little different than you get at most places... So, I'm looking forward to trying most things on the menu... I'm looking forward to suggesting it to others... I just hope future visits are pleasurable experiences! I ordered a "house special".... The Avocado Toast was pretty good, would've been better if the bread hadn't been somewhat burned... My husband and I wanted to try and new place for lunch so we headed here. It's super cute on the inside and has a great patio on the outside. The baristas and servers were super friendly and helpful. One recommended the Cuban so I got it iced because it was a million degrees out. HOLY COW! Best Cuban I've ever had. So so good. Will definitely be ordering it again. My husband said his Patty Melt was super good. It was greasy but not the kind that makes you feel bad after you eat it. The perfect greasy He said they put some sort of sauce on it that's super yummy. I had the Harpeth Breakfast. It was ok. Literally the only reason I'm not giving five stars because we loved everything about this place. I plan to come back and try something else to eat and update my review then (most likely to five stars!) Here's the thing: the food is more expensive then some other places but that's also because it's in a hotel. Although my coffee was cheaper than some other coffee shops we've been to so you have to decide how you feel about that.... All in all 9/10. Would recommend!!!! read more

I came here on a whim and ended up having some the best food in downtown Franklin. The shop is super cute and nice and the outside area is lovely. I was served by several baristas, Jessica, Izzy, and Alyssa, who were super sweet. They were very attentive and helped me find a drink that would fit my preferences. I ended up trying the mango iced tea with extra sweetener. I also got some awesome food including steak and eggs, chicken club, biscuits and gravy. Had our first "brunch" at McGavock's last weekend with friends and family. What a warm and welcoming place to share a meal! Food was amazing, the staff friendly and efficient. The omelette was good. The grits were very good. Generally, I am NOT a grits fan of anyone's but mine, but they were the first restaurant that actually made great grits. However, it was pricey for Eggs and grits. Now, here is where I had a problem.....this is not a restaurant where you are served by a waitress. You order your food and walk up to the counter to pick it up when it is ready. What I dislike is when you pay (by credit card at least) the system runs you through suggested tip amounts and a 'custom' tip field. The suggested tips are as if you were given service (10, 15, 20 percent). Grudgingly, I gave a 'custom' tip of $2. It made me feel like I was being 'shamed' into a tip. The 2nd morning I left no tip and I was wondering if my omelette order was taking a while because I did NOT leave a tip. I came down from my room to pick up breakfast and bring it back to my room to eat. I am not cheap by anyone's standard...I rarely, if ever tip below 25% and in many instances 30 %. Not only am I not cheap, but I have quite a net worth.....I just am judicious with what I work hard for and don't needlessly throw it around. So, that's my only gripe. For me, probably not for all (or the majority), I walked away with not the greatest feel about the restaurant for that reason alone. read more

Based on the decor, prices and coffee equipment I was expecting this to be excellent coffee. We were sadly disappointed. Got a latte and a cappuccino, both were sub par. They have the best outdoor space in town so a friend and I thought we'd give them a try for lunch today after our walk. We ordered a frittata and a wedge salad to share. It was expensive and took a really long time. I could give them a pass on both of these things if the food was good. It was not anything near good. The frittata seemed reheated , salty and the ingredients did not seem fresh. The wedge salad was mediocre. My fears about this "faux" boutique hotel have been fulfilled. I suppose it's about what one might expect from a Hilton. So sad. read more
