Just moved to the Belle Haven community of Alexandria and needed a good source for firewood to prepare for this winter. Called McGee up and spoke directly to Gloria who helped answer some questions I had and made the process easy. Set up the time and delivery for the next day. Great price for a full cord of wood, especially with temperatures dropping so quickly- it didn't feel like it was raised to reflect that. Drop off was early in the morning the next day. The gentleman confirmed where I wanted the wood dropped and made sure to keep it nice and tidy on the driveway to ensure I could still park. Only complain I have is the trash that was mixed in with the wood. It happens though, and I don't think it merits any deduction of a star as it wasn't crazy full of trash and since I had to clean up the little pieces of wood/dust at the end it was easy. read more

Do not recommend. My Mom used McGee on a large project at her home and when I saw the work I was horrified. They butchered everything they touched. They have no clue how to properly prune anything. She also paid thousands for the incompetent work. read more

Star is for delivery and communication, which was great. Otherwise, wood was wet and not seasoned as described. We purchased half a cord that we are unable to use. Even with a Duraflame log the wood is very difficult to catch and burn. Disappointed and company has not reached out in response to request to return/refund. read more

Driver almost killed me and my elderly grandmother around 11:35AM 11/07/2019. We were merging onto 95 going south from The Woodbridge edit and he didn't yield to merge he just kept going, we had the right away. We had to pull into the dirt to save ourselves and the car. What's even more disturbing is we got back on the road and he road our tail and tried to play car tag with us. He was eating chips and thought it was really funny. He had a passenger that continuously flipped us the bird. We also witnessed him tailgating other cars and driving way over the speed limit. License plate 193-155 (T over L) this was on the trailer he had behind his truck. read more

I love getting my seasonal firewood from this place. The staff is friendly. I know they offer different landscaping and hardscape services. I haven't tried them out yet but I'm sure they are probably fantastic based on their customer pictures. Once I get a single family home, i will try out their other services. But the wood is seasoned and reasonably price. Great location. Just don't take all the wood so I'll have some too for next winter. read more

If I can give this company NO stars or less I would do it! My 92 year old friend hired them for 2 jobs totaling $16000. This has been since 2018 (first contracted job $3000.) Second job was in 2019 in the amount of $13,000. After waiting and waiting and many calls for these jobs to be started, my friend finally asked for her money back (she paid everything up front, an unfortunate mistake). We have called, texted, emailed with no response and cannot get them to give her her money. They have even refused to respond to attorney's correspondence and calls, NBC's 4 On Your Side and other avenues. They are ripping off a 92 year old woman and should be totally ashamed. We will continue to pursue avenues that can possibly help us in retrieving her monies. BE VERY CAUTIOUS OF THIS COMPANY!!!! read more

Eric and Gloria and the McGee crews are fantastic! From the first phone call to the finished product in one week. They took every stone and every weed out of a 70' by 4' drainage ditch, laid down fabric and replaced every stone and more. They took out 30 year old monster bushes, and redid all the beds in my back and side yards to perfection. Eric and Gloria were there every day and texted me regularly to check on the job. The new shrubs were in excellent condition. The workers were HOSSES and did precision work. An add on job was no problem. They know their business. I am so pleased. Another landscaper referred me to McGee when I needed a job done faster than he could deliver. He also admitted that McGee would be more knowledgeable about grading the yard after a time-consuming foundation repair left my yard torn up and full of dirt and weeds. McGee responded to my request quickly, and they were very hands-on from start to finish. Because I'd been let down by other contractors and faced a time crunch in getting my yard graded and a lawn established before the winter, they fit me in. I had multiple questions, and Gloria patiently helped me decide the best course to take. Eric was available to explain the process once the work was about to begin. He even replanted a few perennials I had in pots, which was not part of the contract. His crew was friendly, respectful and tidy. I always appreciate it when contractors clean up after each day, and they always did. To my surprise, Eric put his own sprinklers and timers in place to keep the sod moist during the last few hot days of fall. I'd shown him the sprinklers and hoses I have on hand, and I expected to buy whatever he recommended. His thoughtful gesture saved me effort and expense. I read the negative reviews on here, and having written plenty of my own when disappointed by a vendor, it is my pleasure to write a positive review based on my personal experience with McGee. We attempted to level our backyard ourselves to put a pool up, we were unsuccessful. I called McGee landscaping. They were out the next day started the job immediately, and finished the following morning by 10am. They did a fantastic job and made time to finish our small project immediately.. we appreciate their work and would highly recommend them! read more

McGee Landscaping & Hardscape was a dream come true. After firing the first contractor whom I hired for a pavers patio, McGee Landscaping came in to save the day. Eric McGee came in and made my mom feel comfortable with not only his services but his knowledge of the business. The added benefit was Gloria McGee who handled the finances and together they make an excellent team. From start to finish they were the best. They answered all questions and provided updates along the process. Both Gloria and Eric understood the horrible experience we had with the prior contractor and ensured us that they would do everything to make sure we were satisfied. They lived up to their end and we are COMPLETELY satisfied with the craftsmanship of the work, the customer service they provided and the PRICE! We didn't feel taken advantage of and ultimately I received the pavers patio I wanted from the start. If anyone is looking for landscaping or Hardscape I recommend McGee everyday of week!!!! I am a current customer who has provided a $2000 deposit down for a retaining wall before Thanksgiving and I have received no commitment for work to be done and now Gloria won't even respond to my emails. Zero stars not possible. Inconsiderate landscapers who use gas powered weed wackers to cut lawns in the city of Alexandria prior to 9am in violation of city ordinance. Hire these guys if you want to hear your neighbors angrily shouting for them to shut down their equipment. read more

Very disappointed. Got a quote for a patio and backyard landscaping. Eric was helpful and creative. Ended up just having a tree removed, one other trimmed, and a mulch bed put in. I was told that because I also put in a new fence they could no longer trim a tree because it would fall on the new fence. Only deducted $100 saying it would have taken a few minutes to cut and let fall. Quotes to remove the limb are $600-700. Extremely unreasonable when I tried to negotiate a further deduction. Get a full detailed quote and contract before using. read more

They charge an extra fee for purchasing with a credit card, which is annoying given that the are also expensive. They charge$75/yard for compro style lawn topping that you can get for $50/yard at Denisons Landscaping or JK Enterprises. All are equidistant from Old Town Alexandria. read more

I purchased bulk mulch. I had McGee send out a representative to help determine the amount I needed. It was determined that I required two truck loads. I took delivery of the first and after putting that down, realized that I ordered too much and that I should reduce my order. I called and was told that they did not change orders or do refunds. I find this unreasonable, given that this isn't a very perishable item. Although they are located close to my home, had the product I wanted at a price I felt was reasonable, that they were flexible enough to work the delivery around the weather and my schedule, and that the guy who delivered it was prompt and courteous, I will not do business with them again. There are plenty of other sources for mulch. read more

The worst customer service experience in my life.I needed a simple delivery of gravel and sand to my home in MD.I had to keep calling to confrim day and time of delivery based off of what was communicated to me (between 10am-12pm) also phone calls are continously screened and you will not get a return call ...Gloria (owner) yelled at my wife and told her that if anyone calls again about our delivery that she would personally cancel the delivery and then hung the phone up on my wife. I wanted to cancel the entire transaction but beware they have a NO REFUND just a STORE CREDIT policy for cancellations. I read the poor reviews but this business was my contractors choice and they have been apologizing for this mess for 2 days...Eric the delivery driver seems to be the only person that works their that has an ounce of customer service in there bones...read the reviews there pretty on point!! read more

McGee landscaping has done extensive work for us over the past 15 years, two retaining walls, a 1,000 sq ft paver patio, paver front walk plus plantings. Their work is second to none. Their crews are polite and courteous. I wouldn't use anyone else. read more

If you have any other options, I recommend NOT dealing with McGee. I called them to let them know I was on my way to pick up some soil, only 5 minutes away. It was close to closing time, so the woman said to be there before 5pm, and they would wait, and fill my order. I arrived at 4:55, and the yard was chained up and store closed lights off. It was obvious they left early to avoid me, even though they knew I was inbound. They intentionally chose to waste my time. With a poor work ethic like that, I have no confidence in their soil products. My rec: Go elsewhere, and pay your money to a business with integrity. read more
