I went in a few days ago having done my research in terms of the vehicle I wanted and about what I was looking at pricing/financing wise but I wanted to see the vehicle in person. Robert was the first face I saw and he was able to show me a version of the car I wanted since they didn't have the exact version I wanted. I left having exchanged contact information and him letting me know that he would let me know when something arrived that fit what I was looking for. The next day he let me know that something had arrived overnight that fit what I was looking for and we scheduled a test drive for today. While I hadn't planned on purchasing today, I couldn't resist. I'm sure it was a combination of my being ready, his savvy salesmanship, but also his in-depth knowledge of what I was looking for and the features of the car. I did come in with trade in options and negotiated on that end. It did take a long time, but it's been about 10 years since I last purchased a car so who knows if that's typical. I had my son with me and Robert interacted with him as well and asked what he thought about the vehicle which made the experience even more special considering the last time I bought a car, I was eight months pregnant with him. I can't speak to the service area, but I will update when it comes time to get my vehicle serviced for an oil change or anything else should I need it, but for now I would definitely look for Robert for any of your sales needs if you're looking for someone who is knowledgeable, kind, and listens to your concerns. Went to get my car in on Monday for supposedely just an oil change but it so happen that the check engine light was on again as it does sporadically in the past few years, an issue i had with my 2019 Kona that i have brought up many times before to the dealer with no resolution (code 50700)... Anyway, so i brought the car around 9:30 am, was assigned to a service advisor Thomas, dropped the car off and received a link to an online tracker that does a poor job updating the status of the car. Tracker had not moved from "arrival" until around 1pm with a laundry list of services amounting to $3K. I of course declined all of them except for the oil change service i went there for. I made a plan of taking it somewhere to get those services as the price would be less that at the dealer's. Then i got a call from the service advisor Thomas who persuaded me to do 3 of the myriad services on the list, as these were the reasons for the engine light. I hesitantly and regretfully said yes. Thomas informed me to give him 2 hours to get the services done and never head from him ever again. Went to the dealer around the time i was told the car woud be ready, around 3:30pm and i waited patiently in that lounge for 3 more hours with no Thomas checking on me nor updating me via text/call. The online tracker says service still "in progress" so i kept waiting. At 4:15 pm i texted them about the status of my car, and got no reply. I realized the text i initally received from them with an online traicker is not something you can reply to. I called around 5:15pm, no reaponse, left a message. It was around 5:55 pm, i was the only person left in that lounge, when i went outside to get some air, when i saw my car parked outside. So i went in to look for Thomas, but was told by the attendant guy on the service desk that Thomas left but would be back in 2 minutes. I told him my car is outside and asked if it was ready. The guy said to wait for Thomas. So i went back to the lounge until 6:25 pm when i noticed staff clocking out for the day. Went back to the service area where most lights were turned off already. The inattentive attendant guy on the desk from earlier was just sitting there watching videos on his phone, and i asked him again where the heck was my service advisor. I told him my car has been sitting outside for over an hour now and Thomas was nowhere to be heard or found. Guy hastily called Thomas and it turned out, my car had been ready all this time. Paid $$$ for the services i was bamboozled to, just to get rudely ignored and receive the crappiest customer service, no apologies or acknowledgement for their non-communication and negligence. So much for their department being called a Service Department. What i went through in spite of my patience was a disservice from McGrath Hyundai. They employ negligent service agent who seemed to only call you to bamboozle you into getting add on $ervices$, and inattentive staff who are busy on their phones while on the clock, than tending to their customers. Lesson learned. This was a stab in the heart. I will not be bringing my car there for service. And oh, to drive the knife deeper, check engine light went back on after driving 30 miles post-service. Avoid McGrath City Hyundai Service Center at all costs. This was, without a doubt, the worst service experience I have ever had. My car was kept here for seven days for a warranty repair. At 12:50 PM, I received an official text message stating that my vehicle was ready for pickup. When I arrived, however, my car was not ready. Instead of apologizing, the service advisor was extremely rude, aggressive, and even yelled at me, saying, "Anyone could have sent that message. I didn't send it." They refused to take responsibility for the notification sent by their own service department. To make matters worse, they initially refused to release my vehicle, claiming it was at a different facility. I was forced to wait for hours and had to pay for three separate Uber/taxi rides out of my own pocket because of their poor communication and misinformation. The staff's behavior was intimidating and completely unprofessional. When I asked to speak with a service manager or supervisor, my request was flatly denied. This service center is disorganized, unprofessional, and untrustworthy. I would strongly recommend taking your vehicle elsewhere for any repairs or maintenance. If this is the level of service they provide after the sale, I strongly recommend reading all customer reviews before deciding to purchase a vehicle from this dealership. When I looked up the info again 30 mins after I made the appointment, they had raised the price $600, despite the fact they had been dropping the price for several weeks. I received a phone call, verbatim: "This is Miguel, one of the managers here at McGrath City Hyundai, I hope you're doing great. I know that you saw the different price on the website. They went up. Don't worry. We're willing to honor that price. It's just sometimes our system goes with the market, what they're going for, automatically. So give me a call. Let me know. I know you had an appointment today. I just, you know, we're willing to honor the price." What a COINCIDENCE that after repeatedly dropping the price now suddenly it's $600 more after I called. However, I lost the keyhole cover on my new car and asked them if they could replace it, they said they could but it would be really cost- and labor-intensive to paint and replace such a small and almost-vestigial part. I said I wanted to anyway, they said OK, and then I never heard from them again...which is weird, but shortly after, my financial situation changed so I kinda let it go. I saw an advertisement from McGrath City for a 2017 Ford Focus RS in December 2024 and requested information about the car. Tamara from the dealership contacted me and provided videos and a CarFax report. The report indicated that the car had sustained minor damage to the front in 2019. I inquired further about this, and Tamara texted me that "there is no damage to the vehicle." Based on this understanding, I agreed to purchase the car, believing it to be in good condition and free of damage. After completing the purchase, I arranged transportation through Sherpa Auto Transport. The car was picked up from the dealership on January 8, 2025, and inspected by the carrier before transportation. The inspection sheet documented multiple areas of damage, including the wheels and front bumper. The dealership acknowledged these damages by signing the inspection sheet. This raises serious concerns that either the salesperson misrepresented the car's condition to secure the sale, or the vehicle sustained damage while on the dealership's premises after my purchase. I wired the remaining payment of $36,281.30 to the dealership, which was confirmed on January 2, 2025. However, I only have received my copy of the purchase agreement on 17th, despite repeated attempts to contact Tamara. Issues During the Purchase Process The purchasing process itself was riddled with complications: Inflated Fees: The initial out-the-door price included several surcharges, such as a $2,995 Advantage Package, a $1,798 First Place Finish Package, and a $953 Doc Process Fee--far exceeding the state limit of $358. After discussions, the dealership removed these additional packages, as well as a $595 process fee that they claimed covered a vehicle inspection before sale. Delays and Errors: I requested a walkthrough of the paperwork with a finance representative via video chat before signing, as I am based in California. It took four days to arrange this call. Additionally, the initial purchase agreement contained several errors: The odometer reading on the purchase order did not match the actual vehicle. My $1,000 deposit was omitted from the agreement. The inspection sheet was incomplete, missing checkmarks and the technician's signature. These errors required multiple revisions, delaying the finalization of the agreement until December 28, 2024. I have been trying to reach a manger for almost a month now. I've called and left multiple messages and no returned calls. I spoke with Leslie and she told me she would personally hand the message to a manager and that was over a week ago and still nothing. This is very upsetting and makes my original concern worse. This is what happened. About a month ago( maybe less) I took my car for service. Spent almost $900 dollars and waited over 4.5 hours for my car. When I got my car it had a very strong odor of marijuana. I thought it may just have been someone that passed by and left the smell, but when I drove off I confirmed it was my car that had that marijuana smell. Brought my car here to be repaired after a break in. Service was ok, good communication, quick turn around. Until they sent me home with a dead battery at the end of service hours. No one to answer my calls, was passed around and hung up on many time. By the time I found someone to speak with, there was no one to come to jump my car or replace the battery. They suggested I call a tow to bring it back to them to be fixed the next day. They also said I denied the suggestion of a new battery during my car repair (for something completely different). I did not deny anything, nor was it communicated in any form throughout my service visit that my battery was absolutely dead, would not turn on again. Who sends a car out of their shop like that? Bought a new Tucson 2016 at McGrath and it turned out to be a lemon, had to replace the transmission twice! The second one was cracked and neither Progressive nor would McGrath pay for it. Had to return there many times over the nine years for so many repairs and replacements. Service department was always unpleasant and not easy to work with. While I love the car, the experience in the showroom was dreadful. I could/should have worked through the Costco car buying program but their dealership was not convenient and McGrath was. The salesperson was helpful and friendly until it was clear that I wanted a car they had on the lot. After that things went downhill. I waited for long periods for "paperwork " to appear and three hours to talk to the finance guy, even though it was almost closing time and there was only one other customer in the showroom. This review spans a few days- January 29th, 2025 McGrath Hyundai is, without a doubt, the worst service experience I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I should have listened to the countless negative reviews about this place, but I foolishly gave them a chance. Big mistake. I called ahead and spoke with Marcel, the service manager, to confirm everything -- drop-off at 7:30 AM, a ride to work, and a porter picking me up at 4:00 PM. Simple, right? By noon, I had to chase down Alex, the so-called "expert" handling my car, only to find out he had no idea what was going on. He admitted they had spent two hours driving my car around without the slightest clue what was wrong -- but assured me they'd have it figured out by the time I returned. Spoiler alert: they didn't. At 3:00 PM, I called again. Same story -- Alex was clueless and casually asked if they could just keep my car another day. I told him that wasn't possible since I had no other way to get home. He promised a porter would pick me up at 4:00 PM so we could figure out next steps. Then 4:00 PM came and went. Nothing. I was stranded outside my workplace, freezing in the cold for over an hour and a half. I called Alex repeatedly, and every time, I got the same excuse -- "the porter is 4-7 minutes away." It was a blatant lie, over and over again. At one point, I even offered to pay for my own Uber just to get out of there, but they insisted the porter was "on the way." After an hour of being ignored, Alex told me the porter was waiting in a white Tucson. Guess what? There was no Tucson. Another lie. When the porter finally showed up -- blasting music like he was at a party -- he unapologetically told me that no one had even told him to pick me up. It gets better -- after all this chaos, they still had no clue what was wrong with my car. Let me repeat: this is a car dealership's service department, and they couldn't even figure out what was wrong with a car. The level of incompetence, disorganization, and flat-out disrespect I experienced is mind-boggling. Not once did anyone take accountability -- everyone just passed the blame. I've never felt so dismissed and helpless at a business in my life. McGrath Hyundai's team is unprofessional, unqualified, and unbothered. Noel made it easy--he even had a loaner car brought to my work and sent mine back to the dealership. I appreciated that. As soon as my car got there, I got an automated text linking me to Christine. I replied right away. Days went by--nothing. I left multiple voicemails. Still nothing. Finally, after getting completely ignored, I reached out to Noel again. And, surprise, Christine called me almost immediately. The dealership had my car for over a week, and I got zero updates. Then, nearly two weeks later, I got a short message from Christine: "Your car is ready for pickup." Noel kindly brought my car to me. To this day, I have no idea what they actually did to my car--if they even did anything at all. And guess what? It's still only getting 20 mpg. I wish there was a no star option. I made an early services appointment for a check engine light that two other places identified in a matter of seconds. Because it's likely warranty covered I picked the closest Hyundai. I should have remembered my last visits. Although my appointment was for opening time the man there told me he needed it all day to check the sensor. Until closing. So literally 11+ hours, just to identify the cause of the light. Then it would be days (yes, plural) before it would be ready. So, at opening time on Thursday morning they were saying I could pick it up at closing Tuesday, maybe Wednesday. Maybe longer. We actually came just looking around, with no intention of buying anything. I'm just interested in an SUV that I would potentially like to buy. My daily and I walk in and are greeted by Mike Vaughn. He introduced himself, and we spoke about the Hyundai Palisade that we were interested in. Unfortunately, it wasn't available, but he did have another trim level, and so I asked if it was ok to test drive the SUV. Mike, without hesitation, says, "Yeah, you can go for a test drive." I was thrown aback in a good way. I've had some not so great experiences in the past, but Mike made things feel right. So off we go on the test drive, and the more I drove, the more I liked the trim level Palisade that I was driving. Even my wife and daughter were enjoying the ride. We get back to the dealership, and Mike thanks us for coming by and asking if we had any other questions. We go over features, and he answers my questions like a pro. He then proceeds to say, " Well, think about this model and let me know what you think about it. " Well, we were hooked. Time to make a deal. Miguel, the sales manager, worked some magic for us. I dropped my car off Dec 16, and have been without my car or a loaner since then. I was told I wouldn't be eligible for a loaner until a repair order was started which took about a week and a half, but once repairs were approved they still didn't have any loaners available. I called at the beginning of the week to inquire about a loaner, and again my service advisor was off. I was told they would leave him a message to call me the following day, but that didn't happen. All everyone I speak with can say is that there are no loaners because: like me there are a lot of cars being serviced as well as others waiting for repairs. It seems like this has been an ongoing problem, and I find it extremely aggravating that the dealer and Hyundai can't get together to provide other options so customers aren't left without vehicles for extended amounts of time. Therefore, if you are considering buying a Hyundai from this dealer I would advise you reconsider!!!!! Everyone is nice, and I'm sure they have a lot of cars available to sell. I been trying to contact someone in service since 3:00pm. The phone system they have just hangs up on me. When I did was able to talk to someone(sales)they had an attitude. I just had a simple question to ask that didn't require a lot of thinking and work. This person in sales just brushed me out and with that attitude, of course I'm going to tell her something. After being frustrated that I can get in contact with someone. Hyundai spend a lot of money to remodel the place, they should spend all that money on sending people how to talk to customers and hire people that actually want to help out a customer. I been in sales, service, parts department and I also worked in the automotive field. I know how to talk to people and what she should have done. I am very disappointed with this Hyundai, sales people don't keep their promises and the management is even worst. I bought a car, they told me that I could pick it up on Monday, as soon as I signed the contract and pay, they forced me to get the car right away (Friday) no walk through the car, no instruction on the features, nothing, they promise to give a polishing to my black car after a month, but they chance sales people and don't honor the agreements. I've summarized as much as I can below since there is a character limit. But overall, this dealership lacks empathy, professionalism, education for the actual product, lack of communication and deceitfulness. First day - Product Specialist and Sales Rep Hunter provided all kinds of information about the vehicle as far it being a certified, complimentary 2 years free charging, blue link app to remote start the vehicle at no cost. So, after several hours dealing with Hunter and Bill (sales manager) we came to a price. Next up was Finance and Fabrizio. I have good credit but the interest rate would be lower if I opted into the extended warranty. I can cancel at any time to get it prorated reimbursement.. I later did research and found out that this is a tactic used called tied selling (which is illegal in certain states). So better to get a prequalified loan instead of dealing with the bs from the finance team. Once the paperwork was done, I proceed to the car. The Car was not cleaned. If you are purchasing a vehicle for the first time, normally the car gets fully detailed. I was asked to get new plates, which I thought it was EV plates, came out to regular Illinois plate. I could've avoided those costs since I had valid plates. Charger was missing, I had to ask for one. Random mats were put in that was not properly aligned. Car was at 25% and was not shown how to charge the vehicle. I don't live close to the dealership. How do you give a customer, that's new to EVs, that much charge to go home with? This was past 11pm and I had work the next day. So I ended up leaving and figuring out how to Charge the vehicle, it was free but noticed it was linked to previous owner. At this point it was midnight. Second day - Returned to the dealership to have the car cleaned and blue link fixed. Car wasn't fully cleaned again and the excuse was since it's used it will still leave some dirt. The car still had rocks on the mats that could've been vacuumed and the seats wiped down. The dealership also provided me the tire repair kit since they forgot to give me one the first day (the car comes with it as a standard). Blue link switched to my profile, when I left, I needed to charge it. Once I charged it, I had to pay which I thought was odd since I was supposed to get complimentary charging. I called the dealership, Bill the sales manager mentioned since I was the second owner of the vehicle I don't get the benefits of the free charging. I couldn't go back to the dealership that day so I returned the following. Third Day -Buyer's remorse denied, only exchange vehicle or purchase a new one only option. All misleading information came out: No free charging due to being the second owner. Not a certified vehicle, it was mentioned that it was used only. Blue link is not free, you have to pay for subscription to just even have remote start. Stated all this information provided to me during sales was inaccurate and the excuse from the SALES MANAGER was that the product specialist was relatively new. Tried to work with the Sales manager and finance manager, they said they were working with corporate as well as the general manager. This was false, no real conversations happened. The best they can do is a written 500 credit, which is good for 2 months charging after doing the calculations. I had no other choice but to leave since I had obligation to attend that evening. I've reached out to try to speak to the general manager Angelo several times through the weeks/months. Whoever I spoke to on the phone, kept transferring me to random people. I left voicemails to get a response back. I also kept checking up on my refund for my warranty since I cancelled it but Fabrizio doesn't seem to put in efforts to return calls or respond to emails. At this point I don't even want to see the dealership in person anymore. A complaint will be filed, so future customers please avoid this place. read more

I purchased a car from McGrath Hyundai(Grand Ave,Chicago) and had an incredibly frustrating experience with their financing manager-Kevin Jovasais. Despite explicitly stating multiple times that I did not want an extended warranty, the financing manager added a $6,500 warranty to my account. I only discovered this issue after the purchase when I reviewed the documents stored on a USB stick provided by the dealership. I have been trying to resolve this problem for the past three months. I've reached out repeatedly via phone and email to have the unnecessary warranty removed from my account. Unfortunately, the financing manager has been unresponsive--he neither answers my calls nor replies to my emails. My experience with this dealership has been extremely disappointing, and I would strongly advise others to be cautious. Words can not express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to Eddie Vellega and his team. I called multiple Hyundai locations and was told they wouldn't be able to help me with my fleet vehicle. The earliest they could see me was over a week out. My defrost wasn't working properly, making it difficult to see and the vehicle was taking over 20 minutes to even warm up even slightly. When temperatures are in single digits and snowing. A broken defrost is a huge problem for any driver. I took a chance and went to McGarth City Hyundai first thing the following morning. Per the recommendation of the associate, I spoke with the day before. She advised me my situation qualified as an emergency. If I came in first thing in the morning, there was a possibility I would be assisted. To ask to speak to Eddy Vellega and he would do his best to help me. I am so happy I listed to the associate because that's exactly what happened. The other Hyundai locations I contacted never offered the option of trying to walk in and trust me I asked. Each time I was dismissed and they didn't view the defrost not working as an issue. As soon as I walked into McGrath City service area, I was greeted by a team member. After explaining the issue, he took my keys and brought the vehicle inside. I spoke with Eddy and he took care of me right away. Thankfully, it was a simple fix and I was in and out within thirty minutes. There is no way I would have been able to drive the vehicle safely if they wouldn't have assisted me. If I ever have an issue, this will be the only place I will bring my fleet vehicle. If you want great customer service and a knowledgeable team, I absolutely recommend McGrath City. Recently obtained a new vehicle from this dealer. Extremely disappointed with the purchasing experience. They were very opaque during the negotiation process and were not respectful of my time. As further insult, the car was not properly prepped at completion of transaction. Also, the car company customer support has been weak with no resolution of issues brought concerning the vehicle electronics. In the future, I would not recommend Hyundai / Kia / Genesis. Came in for an appointment at 1 pm that was previously scheduled, they couldn't get to me until 1:30, at that time they told me 1-1.5 hrs for my regular maintenance to be performed. It is now 4:30 and I am still waiting to get my car and will be missing my next scheduled appointment. Customer service also has been completely unhelpful, with no compensation. I will not come here again and would strongly caution others away from this dealership. read more

It's a long one. Bottom line - Service department lies, scams, is rude and gives your personal information to other employees at different locations to call you and call you a b*tch when you pick up the phone. I made an appt for the Regional 60k mile Maintenace Package. Go look it up to see what it entails. Needless to say, I don't know if my oil got changed or my tires got rotated. And I received none of the other services included in the price I paid. I waited for 5 hours for my car. I waited to be helped 45 minutes after my appointment time. I should have just left after 20 minutes but I needed many of the things they advertised under the package. My car now smells like burning oil since they worked on it. I've had routine oil changes for the last two years and have never had this smell. I call them to inquire and was told I DECLINED all of their maintenance recommendations even though 5 of the things they recommended are supposed to be INCLUDED under the package and they want to charge me for them. They never sent me the text messages they claim to have sent me asking if i wanted maintenance on my car and i never received an email about what was needed until AFTER I left. Do not go here. I regret to say that my experience with McGrath City Hyundai Car Dealership/Service Department has been utterly disappointing. I dropped off my vehicle on 4/11, hoping to resolve an ongoing issue. Little did I know, this would mark the beginning of an agonizing saga of false promises, misinformation, and endless delays. I received an invoice on 4/12, informing me of the repairs that had to be approved. Relieved, I approved them and anticipated a swift resolution. Much to my surprise, I was then called on 4/16 from Nick to verify the repairs I had already approved, and was told it would cost $2,000+, to which I responded, please look up my warranty. I was then asked, "so if your warranty doesn't cover the repairs, do you still approve the repairs?", to which I replied, "yes, but I'm sure it's covered by my warranty". (Note: I had said the same thing when I brought my vehicle in and was told about a $180 inspection fee) I received a call about an hour later and was told "you're going to like this news... Luckily, I was able to get those repairs covered for you, so it doesn't look like you'll have to pay that $2,000+". That conversation ended with me being told my repairs are likely to be completed by the 18th/19th-ish. However, days turned into weeks, and my car remained in their possession. Each time I inquired about the status, I was met with vague assurances that it would "probably just be another day." Communication from their end was virtually nonexistent. I had to constantly reach out for updates, only to be met with different stories regarding the progress of the repairs. It seemed as though they were making up excuses as they went along, offering conflicting explanations for the prolonged delay. What truly baffles me is that I had brought my vehicle in a few months prior for the same issue, only to be told that "no issues were found" after a two-week evaluation. It's beyond comprehension how they could fail to identify a problem that clearly persisted. Furthermore, the repeated assurances that they were "checking to see if the parts were available," despite already supposedly working on my vehicle, only served to exacerbate my frustration. It became apparent that their words held little weight, and their actions were riddled with incompetence. As of today, nearly three weeks since I initially dropped off my car, I am still without my vehicle. This entire ordeal has been a nightmare, and I strongly advise anyone considering their services to proceed with extreme caution. The utter lack of accountability, professionalism, and respect for their customers is truly appalling. Although it appears that there may be a few good employees and they're kind, it appears very little progress is being made, and the service manager, Miguel Caro, has been less than helpful and even informed me "I've only been back a couple of months, so I'm not aware of everything that's going on." I called yesterday, 4/29 at 12:06pm, spoke with Christina and was told "let me look up the status of your parts," placed on hold, then told "I'll have the service manager (Miguel) call you back, because he's working with a customer." Today it's 4/30 at 9:10am, and I still haven't received any calls or updates. As the situation progresses, I'll make sure to update this review and provide the appropriate call logs, messages, and screenshots to verify my story. For accountability purposes, for anybody reading this review, it's always in your best interest to document all interactions when dealing with situations such as this. s/o to Nick who reached out to me 4/30 10:50am to notify me that after the repairs were completed, my transmission failed a test and a request was made to replace it. Approval is needed, and someone would be out this week to authorize/inspect car. Nick then followed up with me 5/1 to notify me that the previously stated someone showed up today and inspected the vehicle, and that we should be good to go once the inspector completes whatever tasks they have. WORST dealership experience I've ever had! Save your time and headache. Go somewhere else! I went to this Hyundai dealership trying to buy an SUV. After a test drive, I asked if they could give me an out-the-door quote. They would NOT do that. In fact, they refused to give me anything in writing. I spend almost 2 hours and they said a USED TUSCON would cost me 61K plus taxes and fees. I remind you, this is a pre-owned car. Not only that, but they wanted to add a warranty option on top of that which would cost me another 3K. They said I have to buy the extra warranty because it's part of a "package" and they would not sell me the car without it. When I asked the salesperson if he can go negotiate the price, he brought "the manager". His name was Mohammad, and this guy was even worse. I told him that I was there to buy a car and if he gives me a reasonable price, I would buy it. Not only did he refuse to give me a written quote, but he said "we can charge whatever we want on this car because it's used and the MSRP doesn't matter."
