We live really close to McHugh's and have eaten here about 20 times in the past year. Here's the good & the ugly: The best items on the menu are the pizzas and the potato skins. They use real cheese for their skins (not the processed cheese spread gunk). The OK items are wings and burgers. You can't hit far off the mark with burgers and fries. The worst items: anything chicken. I don't know why but the chicken is ALWAYS rubbery and tough. The sandwiches are just as blech. We usually take our kids with us, who love the kids meals and the service is usually pretty good. We got food to go, and loved the burgers. Even my kids loved the food. I also appreciated that they support local schools with fundraisers. I tried this restaurant because of the fundraiser - but will definitely go back again to support this local business. read more

We were there awhile back and had the absolute worst customer service from the General Manager. She ruined our experience. Service was great from the server but would definitely not recommend dinning there if the General Manager is there because if you have a problem it will not get resolved and if it does it will be handled very VERY poorly!! read more

I realize that in townie bars you might not get good service if you didn't go to high school with the bartender but this place was ridiculous. This place has a nice outside but once you step inside it smells musty and old. The bartender couldn't have cared less about her patrons, she poured my beer with over 2 inched of head and then vanished for 15 Minutes. The food is expensive for what you get. I decided to try this place out after a bad experience a year ago because I heard they had remodeled. Ya, remodeling I guess means you painted the bar a different color. I have been going to McHughs as a regular for years and have always enjoyed it. However today when the bartender was delivering my drink, she spilled it all over me and my husband's jacket, pants, shirt , purse and shoes. She was apologetic and I understand how accidents happen. If I could give zero stars, I would. Service was ok and the food, well we don't know because we left. We we're there on a Saturday for lunch with my mother who has Celiac disease. We asked to talk with the manager so we could ask a few questions. Upon arriving at our booth she was very rude and dismissive. She wouldn't even help us or answer our questions. We hate having to ask the questions but we have to. Because of her rudenss and unwillingness to help us, we left. I think her name was Jenna or something. Jason was so rude to my daughters tonight. He didn't acknowledge them when they came in. He was unprofessional and didn't seem to care about his fowl attitude. He wasn't apologetic at all! We live close to here so I have been to McHugh's 5 or 6 times. Not once have we had bad food, bad service, or an all around bad time. I'm not sure about the other negative reviews here and we usually don't sit at the bar itself but rather in the dining area. One of the best things about McHugh's is the specials. They have good happy hour specials and GREAT game day specials. My family would go there on Sundays during the football season for $4 burger baskets!!! and they were very good! We were seated promptly by what turned out to be our server. Our drink order was taken and delivered right away but our server disappeared for a very long time before taking our order. Our drinks were never checked on between the time the order was taken and the food was delivered. The Hot Turkey Sandwich I ordered was at best lukewarm in some areas and cold in others. The waitress was no where near by and never checked on our satisfaction with the food, so I ate it with out complaint as I was extremely hungry and the meal was pretty good. My fiancée had a much better experience with the chicken fingers off of the happy hour menu. The fries were delicious! I'm used to subpar service, but have never been brought cold food in my life! Not too impressed when you ask the server if the Reuben is stacked with Meat and they say it's allot and it comes with 3 Thin Slices of Deli shaved corned beef I would hate to see her option on a little must be in the Negative Numbers the Fish and Chips couldn't of been more of a let Down if I would of got Fish Nuggets at White Castle ,I will wait a week or 2 for the new place to come in when this place goes under before I walk through those doors again! read more

Over the past six months I have made about a half dozen stops at McHugh's. Despite their poor reputation and all the negative things I have experienced and witnessed there in the past, every time I was hoping it would be a better experience than the previous but unfortunately their staff consists of such poor quality. The atmosphere is a bit dumpy and the bar area each time has been gross! The bar is sticky, and the place has a raunchy smell to it. The noise level is obnoxious- so much echoing. You can't even have a conversation when there are only a few people in the bar. I have experienced about three different bartenders and really all but one (believe his name is Jason-very good) should be fired! The bartenders are very negative and rude. The bar is not that big and many times there are two bartenders but yet still it is a mess. Simply put, the bartenders are poor quality. They are inexperienced and inefficient. An overall lazy attitude and on a good day are mediocre at best. They biggest thing that cannot be overlooked is their blatant gossiping about their patrons and co-workers (including management) and the fact they don't seem to understand that they are there to service the customer. It is not a good sign when each time you visit an establishment the bartenders are gossiping about someone and that takes priority over their customers. The clueless bartender last night (8/30/19) is the worst one and the most unprofessional and unfriendly. She has a terrible attitude and is extremely rude - she needs to get out of the service industry!! Each time I have experienced her she has displayed very immature, bossy and rude service - she clearly has no desire to better herself. It is sad when you are in you mid 30's (guessing her age- she looks like she lives a rough lifestyle though so she could be younger) and you can't even make it in the service industry. From what I understand many others have observed her poor behavior and have had problems with her. Not sure why they keep her around- a quality establishment would not. The clientele is of all ages and is nothing special-mostly career drinkers. Food is good but it's too bad the lack of quality service ruins it. I try to support local but the customer is clearly not their priority. I will not be returning. Anywhere has better service and the same quality food. read more

Their prim rib was excellent! Burgers are very good too. Lots of TV for every sports event you could want to watch. Drink specials when Twins are playing! Prices are reasonable so you can stay and watch the whole game! Very nice outdoor eating as well. Worth the drive down 42 to get to it, you won't be disappointed. read more

Excellent food. I really like the appetizers. We had the fish once, that was best ever and then order next time and it was bad. I guess fish is never a guarantee. When we told the server, they let us re-order something else and did not charge for fish. read more

Decent place but the food was ok. There were several outstanding options according to the waiter however I feel it was just ok food. My 13 YO son ordered a Juicy Lucy and said it was the worst he's had and it was very plain. The staff and workers here were very nice and welcoming. So I ate here for the first time. I'd say it was a decent meal but definitely has room for improvements. I ordered the Irish Philly Steak Sandwich, which in theory should've been great but it was only sub-par seeing that it was drowning in lack luster cheese sauce that was suppose to taste like a stout beer cheese sauce, but tasted more like straight out of a can. However, the portions from what I could tell from my buddy's order and mine seemed decent. The prices seemed fair and competitive however, I defininately thought that the prices for the pizza was terrible. I gave this place a 3 star because if you are looking for decent/okay food then this will be an average place to eat, if you are expecting more than look else where. With just a few improvements I do think that this place could have a better experience. Oh, staffing was decent, however the place I thought was pretty dead for being almost like a sports bar and it being college football Saturday. Defininately thought our waitress did a great job but with it being slow, it's not that tough to do a good job either. So my recommendation is go with an open mind to try a new place and hopefully they will by that time fix those few items and all will be great, just don't expect to have your taste buds knocked off the chair but it being extremely great. read more

Tonight 12-12-11 was my first time at McHughs. I was driving by at 5:30 hungry and thought I would try something new not too far from home(Apple Valley). So I turned around and went back. I walked in and stood in line with a half dozen other folks for over 5 minutes and still no sign of a hostess. Thought about leaving (in hindsight should have). Several waitresses in the back gorund busy cleaning and bussing dishes. Finally the bartender comes over and seats the 4-5 people in front of me and comes back and snidely says to me"you weren't listening to me when I asked if you are all together". I am hard of hearing and was wearing both of my hearing aids. So I apologized as she seated me. Waitress approached and I inquired if there were any happy hour specials(she did not volunteer). She then explained the drink options to me. When she came back with my drink I asked are there any appetizer happy hour specials and she explained them to me. The menu was very blah and hard to read. Waitsataff appears to be pretty mimally trained. Otherwise why wouldn't she mention the happy hour specials to me when I was seated at 5:35, or why did she not explain the appetizer specials when I inquired about happy hour prices the first time? I oredered the merlot sirloin appetizer. It was basically tasteless and so tough I had to saw it into little pieces so I could chew enough to swallow. The place must be financially strapped and running on a shoe string. Their is no dedicated hostess. It is tag team between wasitress/table clearers and the bartender. There is no dedicated person to clear/clean tables, (waitresses do that as well as hostessning occasionally) It was extremly cold in the place. They must keep temperature set at 65 to save money(forget customer comfort) 90% of the customers in prime dinner time were eating their meals in jackets and the "unifrom" for the wait staff is sweat shirts? What is up with that. When I mentioned it to my waistress she just shivered and said "I know it is always like this". On the way out I asked to speak to a manager just to voice my experience to see if they cared at all. Most sucessful places seem to appreciate customer input good or not so good. NOT at McHughs. I was told that the bartender was the manager so I went to speak to her. I intoduced myself to her and spoke to her in a friendly manner. In return she was snippy, snide and sarcatic. Did not seem to care in the least. No sincere apology or gesture. She walked away from me and looked back and snidely snapped "I am sorry you did'nt have a good experience". With this type of management attitude and approach I would be amazed if this god awful dump lasted another year. You could not pay me to return. It seemed the place was understaffed because we had three different servers at our table and no one wanted to take responsibility for us. Plus the wait staff was crabby! Terrible service and food. Expensive for poor quality food - salads small, disgusting, and not freshly prepared. Menu is plain with not much variety. I ordered a burger and they didn't even bring me what I ordered. Server was new and had no idea what she was doing and when the issue involved the general manager she was rude and did not take ownership for the mistake. Service of food and drinks took way too long (especially when the place was dead on a Friday evening!) Staff was not attentive to their tables - had to wave down our waitress as she would purposely avoid our table. Very unimpressed and very poor management and training of staff. Will not ever return and would not recommend for drinks (way to expensive and poorly poured) or food. read more
