This is a beautiful site. The common area is engaging with a warm wood fire and large windows offering a view of the river. Our room was tastefully decorated with a gas fireplace and views of the property/river . . . we had everything we needed to be very comfortable. Tom is a most congenial host, sharing many suggestions about things to do and he's a pleasure to chat with. Karen's watercolors and artwork from other artists are abundant and pretty to look at. Breakfast portions were generous, Tom shared some of his wine with us every evening, and we were there for Tom & Karen's special Valentine's Day dinner, which was delicious. What a delightful place. Quiet, private and so wonderfully relaxing. Tom and Karen could not be better hosts. We were greeted at the car and after dropping off our bags, took a quick tour of the building. Beautifully appointed for guest comfort. We enjoyed our wine and treats on our private porch before heading into Coburn for pizza at Tom's suggestion (awesome pizza! see my other review!). Slept quite comfortably and loved the double shower! Breakfast, cooked to order by Tom, was great- especially the warm cream scones with fresh raspberries and whipped cream. A peaceful spot so close to town, it seems like you are way out in the country but you are so close to shopping, restaurants and the EUG airport. The rooms are HUGE and it was the cleanest B&B we have ever stayed in. Tom & Karen were awesome and our breakfast was great. We will be checking with Tom first every time we visit Eugene. Next time we will bring the dogs for sure, they will love to romp on the acres of land and go visit the river. So nice to find a place so peaceful and welcoming. What a beautiful place with great hosts!! When we arrived, we were shown to our rooms and then given a tour of the inn. Tom and Karen were lovely and at about 5:30 Tom came out and offered us some wine and snacks. Our room was beautiful, as was the entire inn, filled with beautiful pictures many painted by Karen! Breakfast in the morning starred scones with fresh cream along with eggs, bacon, fresh fruit and many other sides. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer! Fantastic serene oasis away from the city yet still so close and convenient. The room and bath were very clean, spacious and the gas fireplace was a nice touch. Tom's breakfasts were different and delicious every day. We particularly enjoyed the homegrown pears and apples. A great place to unwind, enjoy walks along the yard and Mackenzie river, fall leaves and convenient to Eugene and 5 freeway too. Can't recommend enough. read more

I stumbled upon McKenzie Orchards on the last day of a long business trip. Normally, I would stay at a Marriott for the Bonvoy points. Boy, am I glad there is no Marriott on the Eugene area! This place made my trip. Tom and Karen are such delightful hosts! They rolled out the VIP service from start to finish. I ate homemade sour dough, I drank local wine, I even had local jams. The coffee is strong, the bedding is cozy, the fireplace (in your own bedroom) was blissful! They have blackout shades and no noise except maybe some songbirds and the river, so I slept like a baby! I think they could tell I was exhausted when I checked in so they offered me a homemade French sandwich consisting of manchego, delicious think sliced ham, and of course Tom's homemade baguette. Karen threw together a little side salad with homemade dressing and I was poured some Chardonnay from a nearby town. To give this place five stars doesn't do it justice. If you're in the area do yourself a solid and check In to their cozy river home. PS I also want to mention this place is meticulously clean. Nothing is out of place and the hygiene is above and beyond my expectations (and believe me, I'm picky). read more

We came to Eugene to visit friends. We found McKenzie Orchards B&B by accident, all the area hotels were booked. So we checked out B&B's. Are we glad we found it. Extremely well kept and maintained property, large comfortable rooms with private baths, great breakfasts, each day was different. Tom the owner has loads of info on the area and he makes you feel very at home. We were here for 4 days and if we didn't have to continue on our way e would have loved to stay longer. When we come back to Eugene to visit our friends we will not even consider staying anywhere else. read more

McKenzie orchards B&B is a very special place. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and beautifully appointed with en-suite bathrooms . The beds, pillows and mattresses are very comfortable with special mattresses made locally. It is located in a peaceful bucolic setting on a country road close to the city convenient to excellent restaurants. There is a river that runs behind The property which one can enjoy. Tom and Karen, the hosts, do everything they can to make sure you are comfortable and happy. Tom prepares and presents a wonderful breakfast. Coffee, is available any time. In the evening he shares a glass of wine from his collection and is always available for advice on activities. We had a wonderful stay at Mackenzie Orchards B&B. read more

This place is very peaceful with lovely scenery and can walk down to the river. The room and bathroom was large, well appointed and clean. The special vegan breakfast (we asked for) was delicious. The Tesla charger worked perfectly (50 amp I think). Tom was very friendly and treated us to great service. Will go there when driving down to CA from WA again. read more

We had an excellent weekend even with the restraints of COVID. The two breakfasts we had were delicious. The blueberry muffins were almost pure blueberries. They were so good we asked for more. We had the room with a deck. Perfect for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. One evening we were surprised by two deer. The location is peaceful and quiet. Tom was a wonderful host and makes a delicious breakfast. We didn't see too much of Karen but we appreciated her bake goods as she was the baker of the previously mentioned blueberry muffins. It was perfect! This was an ideal location for our family stay for our daughter's local wedding. We had the "guest house" which also served as the bridal party "ready room" on the day of the wedding. Our extended family filled up all the rooms at the inn, including pets in the pet-friendly rooms. The 10 acre grounds served as a perfect backdrop for pre-wedding photos and walks for the pets. Tom and Karen checked on us and asked for and accommodated dietary needs for their delicious breakfast. As fellow innkeepers we know what we don't want when we travel. We don't want noise, we don't want 'doily pink lacy museum' style and we don't want a queen bed. So we searched the area and stumbled across this place. Well Tom is a people person, who gets irony (we are Brits...) and also can cook a breakfast full of taste and flavour (including home grown tomatoes) with not a hint of French toast in sight. DEEP JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The home is modern and new, has an elevator (!) and no creaking floor boards, and if you want quaint nostalgia don't come here. The Sahalie bedroom was HUGE with a great bed, and the bathroom had a Ban-Ultra airbath...very impressed. He had designed the house with Karen his wife, and had included small touches like a 12volt lighting system that works at night and when there is a power cut...very clever uses hardly any power but is really useful. The fireplace was lit in the common, the view of the river reminded us of mid France and a trip around the wineries (King estate for lunch/dinner a MUST!) can all be easily organised from the inn. One night we had complimentary wine and the next a tasty choice of deserts..... A real find......and in our professional opinion better than anything else in the area and it was also very reasonably priced. read more

My husband and I couldn't have chosen a more idyllic place to stay for our weekend in Springfield. We, along with several friends, stayed at MKOBB when we flew into town for our friends' wedding. I have to confess, it was my first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast and I wasn't sure what to expect. Honestly, it was even better than a luxury hotel. My husband and I chose the Sahalie Falls room-- It was beautifully decorated, spacious, and immaculate, with a beautiful view. In addition to the shower, it has a big tub, a king size bed, and all the amenities of a 5-star hotel-- oh! except a TV. But you will not miss it!! There is so much to see and do at this beautiful home, which, by the way, was built by Tom (the owner) himself and a crew of two people!! Speaking of Tom-- he and his wife Karen are the perfect hosts: so friendly, so accommodating, and.... great cooks!! We arrived very late on our flight and Tom waited up until nearly midnight just to welcome us. The next morning (and every morning), Tom and Karen cooked us THE most amazing breakfasts, which even consisted of some of the fruits they grow themselves which include okra, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, asparagus, apples, strawberries, basil, hops (with which they make their own beer...), and I'm sure other things I can't remember! When my group of friends wanted to hang out, there was a lounge (with a TV) and stocked with a comfy couch, big table, and a fridge that all the guests are welcomed to use. A great spot for a couple or for a group of friends-- I highly recommend it. read more

We came to Eugene watch the first half of the Olympic track trials. Karen greeted us at the door when we arrived and immediately showed us to our room, and Tom cooked a delicious breakfast every morning. This place is immaculate and the grounds are beautiful. It is very peaceful and relaxing, and I enjoyed watching the wild turkeys roam around the property. I'd have to say this is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. This is by far the best B&B we've ever visited. Built in 2009 and designed from the ground up as a B&B, this clean, elegant and modern 3-story farmhouse built on 5 acres on the McKenzie River features large guest rooms, and large common rooms and balconies with views of the river, and even a guest kitchen and den. There are original paintings by various artists throughout, and Karen teaches a cooking class. The bedrooms are very comfortable and quiet. A full gourmet breakfast is provided, and the menu changes each day. On the evening of our arrival on our first visit, Karen and Tom offered a light bistro dinner: salmon appetizer, salad, a choice of entrees and dessert. There is even a wine list. On or near the property you will find eagles, deer, ducks and other wildlife, and of course the river. We visit the Eugene area every year, and once we found this B&B, it's the only place we will consider staying. We just returned from our fifth visit. Despite the Springfield mailing address, this B&B is in the countryside and is about 15 minutes from downtown Eugene. This is definitely the place to stay if you are visiting the Eugene area. read more

I LOVE this place. Wish we were staying here longer! I am already picturing how beautiful it must be here during the holidays. This B&B is impeccably clean without being impersonal. It's actually a different sort of B&B in that it is spacious and private, very modern. It's not the stuffy Victorian house that you can barely turn around it. It has soaring ceilings and beautiful views. The breakfast was terrific; we really enjoyed the waffles. Tom and Karen and lovely hosts, friendly, but not intrusive at all. They live on the top floor, so we had the whole bottom floor to ourselves (no other guests at the moment, lucky us. I can't say enough good things about McKenzie Orchards B&B. This is definitely the place to stay in the Eugene area. I was thrilled to get out of gritty Eugene and come out (not that far--only about 10 or 15 minutes) to this bucolic area. The house itself is immaculate. The rooms are spacious and cheerful. I stayed in the Blue River room, and it had a cozy fireplace and a very comfortable bed. The shower was great, too. In the evening, they offer a complimentary glass of wine, and some appetizers. The night I was there, they served tortellini with an absolutely delicious checca sauce with tomatoes fresh from their garden. In the morning, there were waffles, bacon, and fresh fruit. I thought it was an incredibly peaceful place, and again--I appreciated how CLEAN and modern it was. read more

Tom and Karen Reid are the most generous, kind, and knowledgeable B&B innkeepers we've ever had the privilege of getting to know and appreciate! It was Karen who rescued us with clear and precise driving directions from being lost on our way to our 6:00 pm check-in for our one-night stay in their very comfortable, spacious and well-appointed Sahalie Falls room on the top floor (reachable by stairs or an elevator!) of their upscale luxurious three story McKenzie Orchards Bed and Breakfast Inn. When we arrived for check-in both of us were very tired and hungry but we didn't want to go back out and get lost again trying to find a restaurant. Tom and Karen graciously told us they would be glad to prepare a "snack" for us on-site in their beautiful, very large, and ultra-modern professional kitchen, where Karen, as a master chef, frequently teaches cooking classes. When Tom served us our individually loaded pizzas made from scratch, there was also a nice salad included with Karen's "to-die-for" homemade blue cheese dressing on the side as well as a special Karen created cookie for dessert! Delicious - we were extremely pleased and our hunger was thoroughly satisfied! Even better was Tom's willingness to spend time with us and share his special interests and professional expertise as an independent consultant to the State of California and other public/private clients on complicated and contentious forestry and water as well as the whole gamut of natural resource management and policy issues. Having completed their graduate programs at Standard University, Tom and Karen are both on the cutting edge of their specializations. Their mansion-sized 8,000 square foot bed and breakfast inn and five-acre country setting are lovely, peaceful and restful to say the least. While enjoying our breakfast waffles and all their delicious accompaniments the next morning, we watched a family of wild turkeys, who visit the property most every morning, saunter by our dining room window and cross over the grassy pasture beyond. We also met a friendly couple from the Netherlands who were staying there in support of their athletic son competing in several international track and field events at the University of Oregon in Eugene. At check-out, Tom also generously provided us with a representative assortment of fresh picked vegetables he had harvested from his organic garden. Needless to say, Innkeepers Tom and Karen, as well as their guests, are a delight to meet and an inspiration to spend time with and thoroughly enjoy! We definitely wanted to stay longer. Bottom line: Given our experience, you cannot do better in the Springfield/Eugene area than booking a most comfortable, delightful and engaging stay at the McKinzie Orchards Bed and Breakfast Inn. read more
