When we want BBQ, hubby gets in the truck and goes to see Daniel down at Jacks. I love the brisket, beans and tater salad and he goes for the ribs and tater salad and we both like the sausage. Okay, I agree. The chopped beef combo--including chips and a drink--is a good deal. The chopped beef was quite good, and I was grateful that pickles and onions were offered to be included. One very slight flaw was that the BBQ sauce, while very good, had just slightly too much mustard in it. If they could cut back on that a little bit, it would be perfect, in my opinion. Now I don't care all that much about the ambiance of a BBQ joint, so long as it has good 'cue. However, this place needs some major rethinking to make it appealing to new customers. First of all, when you approach the building across a front porch, it is more ominous than inviting. It has a window in front, but nothing inside is visible. The front door is not glass but solid wood, so a customer would have no idea what awaited inside. It reminded me of a speakeasy; all that would be needed was a tiny window that could be slid open from the inside to make sure this wasn't a raid. I have to admit that my wife and I cringed a bit as we turned the doorknob. In my opinion, no restaurant should be without a glass front door or enough other glass through which an approaching customer could have a view inside. When we opened the door and walked in, we thought we were in a pool hall! The first thing we saw was a pool table just inside the front door. Scattered around the room were perhaps a dozen small tables with chairs and one large table. Someone new wouldn't recognize it as a restaurant, as the serving counter wasn't even visible until you looked around the corner from the pool table. Once we figured out where to order, the counter person was mildly personable and prepared our sandwiches quickly, with the sauce, pickles and onions, just as we ordered. It would have been helpful for him to have pointed out the location of the drink station and explained that we needed to pluck our own bags of chips from the rack on the counter. But that missing explanation is easily understood, as they probably don't get too many newcomers here . As we sat to eat, we probably would have been in the way if a game of pool had been going on. We were grateful that there were no players at the time we were there. The next unattractive thing that no one could miss was the string of very bright LED lights across the entire length of the apex of the sloped ceiling. Until I looked closely, I thought they were fluorescent tubes, as that was the exact stark color of the string of LEDs. I couldn't imagine why anyone would install modern lighting to make it look like fluorescent tubes--perhaps the least attractive of any lighting ever invented. The place desperately needed warm-colored lighting and definitely not in one string across the top of the ceiling. As far as the decorative touches on the wooden walls, these consisted mainly of old license plates and various shadow boxes with antique bottles and food containers. That part was okay; it was decorative and not fussy, and I like old stuff, anyway. Having said all this, I have to assume that Jack's is a place with almost all repeat customers who really don't care about the restaurant's customer appeal. They know their way around, they probably know each other, and they like to shoot a game of pool now an then. Mainly, they just want some good barbeque which, judging from our small sample, I assume is pretty doggone good. In fact, is was good enough that I think I need to return and try a little of everything. A bonus would be that I then wouldn't be a newcomer! read more

Out of towners wanting bbq but made a bad mistake of coming here.Go somewhere else.Trust me. Fries wasn't cooked all the way. Potatoes in the potato salad wasn't cooked long enough and way too much mustard in it! The bbq sandwiches was horrible! (None of my family could eat this. We had to throw it all away! Waste of money!)The place looks so dirty outside and inside.. cats everywhere and peoples dirty laundry baskets in front of the building(so weird). The girl putting all the food together was outside getting mail and went right inside to touch food without washing hands or anything.. people there don't seem to give a crap about covid 19 either.. people standing all around the entrance just hanging out.. had to walk through them to even get inside. can't believe i haven't given them a review yet.. i never did eat a whole lotta bbq despite being a native texan but lemme tell ya these guys are legit!! i usually get a baked potato and fried okra and it's divine!! they're always very courteous and straightforward as well, about as texas as it gets !! read more

This is a great looking BBQ place but it ends there. There seems to be confusion as to what business they want to be in. At times there are car being taken apart by the BBQ pits. I can only assume this is being done at the same time and by the same person cooking the BBQ. There is constantly odd items setting at the road for sale and then there's the firework and snow cone stand. The customer service is none existent. The BBQ itself is average. Warmed up per order it tends to be dry and over cooked. I hear good things about there BBQ stuffed potatoes but have not personally tried one. read more

Always wanted to stop n try this place. Y'all know how reluctant I am when it comes to trying others BBQ!! Not sure what Damon's issue is. I don't care how high ya are, just don't forget about my food!! Anyhow, we just kept it simple, burgers n chopped beef. Burgers we're good, the fixings were fresh. Chopped beef had a good smoke flavor, didn't have to be over sauced just to eat it. Mix that with friendly staff and front porch eating, sounds like a pretty good time. Would have loved to rate higher. The food wasn't anything great. The fries were a soggy mess, the catfish you can tell was not fresh or was frostbite... tasted horrible. Ribs and sausage were okay. We will not be returning. read more

This is place is horrible. Food was average and the service was terrible. Going into the place i felt like i may not come or be part of the menu the next day. The girl that answered did not want to be bothered taking our order ans when i got there the woman and the two girls behind the counter had the same attitude. Had the pulled pork and the BBQ was average at best. If i am going to spend my hard earned money i am going to give it to a place that actually gives a crap about me spending it. read more

Where to start.... My first time to have Jacks was tonight. I called to get it to go. When I called the lady that answered the phone and just said "Jacks" nothing more. I placed my order and she said ok. Didn't ask for my name or anything. She was less than pleasant. When my husband showed up to pick up the food he seemed to have disturbed her peace by wanting to pick up an order. It was fine that she never got my name since the place was empty. The attitude in there was definitely an I don't give a F**K. He was completely disappointed when he got home because he said, I never leave reviews but I want to do that tonight. The food is mediocre. My potato had barely any meat on it. It only had butter, sour cream and cheese. My husband got a sandwich with barely any meat on it. I don't see how that equates to $23 but whatever. I was willing to give it another shot for the food, but we won't be back due to the poor customer service. Not sure how this place stays in business. read more

I remember when Jack's was just a stand. The meat was good, sometimes very good, but the customer service has atrophied to nonexistent! I hadn't eaten there in about six months-I always order a meat plate. The last time I ate there I order beans and cole slaw--I got 19 beans on my plate! (somehow in my world 19 beans doesn't make an order of beans??) I know he buys sides at Sam's-he is in the business of cooked meat. I arrive about 7:30- place my order, sit down and a pruse the latest GreenSheet. Then I remember I ordered tea-Jack did not give me a tea cup, I get up walk across the floor to get my cup (he forgot to give me a tea cup), you have to get your tea from his "tea machine", I fill my cups with what I thought was tea and go back to my table. There I discover there is no tea-just water-the tea machine needed to be refilled-not the end of the world, so back to my table. fifteen minutes pass and no plate?????? Jack is shooting the shit with someone, so I go in search of my meal. Jack has forgot that I was there (what else has he forgotten; the tea machine and now my order????). No apology, he says someone will bring it out-a flew minutes later some young kid brings me my plate (I did get a fair amout of beans-more that 19). I stop the kid as he turns to leave: This plates comes with bread, pickes onions, and peppers-YES? He looks at me and asks "you want all that?" Yes I said, that is what I pay you money for, food and something that resembles customer service! Back he comes with my bread, pickes, onions-no peppers! Then I ask him if I am suppoesed to eat my food with my fingers-he forgot utensils-he brings them. The food was acceptable, by that time I was really hungry! I finished the meal, go up to pay my bill; I was charged $14.00 ($10.96 for the plate-$2.00 for the tea that was really water and the rest sales tax. I was so frustrated I paid it and left. Poor customer service reflect direclty on managments attitude about their business. read more
