About a month ago the laws concerning out of province inspections changed. An inspection done in BC is now valid in Alberta for 90 days. The person at the counter told me my inspection certificate was not valid. I told her she was wrong and asked her to talk to her manager. Her manager told me it was invalid because it was purchased by my company (which I own). I told him he was wrong and asked for a business card with his name on it. He refused to tell me his full name, so I told him I wanted a photo of him. He told me I could not take his picture and told his staff to call police. I took his photo and left. At no time did I ever raise my voice or use profanity. I went to a different registry and had my vehicle rgistered and plated without any issues. I contacted the police later and found that he did make the police report but the police did not need to talk to me. Canadian law states that anyone in a public place may take anybody's photo without permision. According to Linked-in I was talking to Omar Abou Shaleh, assistant manager.

Although I don't enjoy going to any government institution or government-sanctioned agency because…read moreof the inevitable sometimes unjust added sytemic expenses involved, I really must rate this registry office on its obvious merits. Over a dozen visits to Express have been most trouble-free: their effectiveness in dealing with so many public concerns has proven them to be relatively headache-free. It seems obvious that this place is run by business-minded people, which in contrast to most government-oriented services stands out as special. As well, their multi-cultural staff all are courteous even with complaining customers, and efficiently keep focused on the task at hand while gently commiserating with the disgruntled ones. As well, they have to deal with all kinds of accents and troublesome immigrant concerns like learner's permits, licensing and registrations. Soothing... My last time there was this past week, and when I had to get some docs from my insurer in Edmonton, they made it so easy to receive a needed fax, and then told me I'd not have to grab another number to wait in line again, but just make myself known 15 minutes later. I did so, and in only another few minutes I had everything done. Cool, eh? As I see that some registries are not run as efficiently, perhaps we should help people go to this one rather than elsewhere.

Heads up for anyone booking a drivers' exam, the online portal for drivers' license bookings says…read moreto arrive 30min before the test, with the earliest slot being 9:00, but the registry opens at 9:00. I arrived at 8:30am for my 9:00am slot. The email you get emphasizes the importance of punctuality. By following this direction, I was apparently needlessly early. Staff got there around 8:45, which was fine, but I think either the email or booking system needs to be adjusted--for example, the first slot could be placed at 9:15 or 9:30. This would probably be better for staff too. This created a sense of confusion before the test (wondering if they had received my booking or the test would make me late getting back to work), and also wasted my friend's time who had taken the time to get up early and come with me. I also got hit with an extra charge for using my credit card when renewing my registration on an earlier day. Staff/examiners are overall polite. I've lived in provinces where the registries are not privatized, and have found the service to be more organized with more transparent pricing.

He spoke way too quietly to hear and gave directions both too early and too late. Despite that, I was able to follow them for the most part. Please reevaluate him because he told me to cut a pedestrian despite there being a stop sign and them having the right of way. He's old and bitter and should not be working in that position. He was only there to get my money and had the audacity to say see you next time like he didn't just fail me. No manners whatsoever, harsh criticism that makes you feel insignificant, and an attitude that rivals a toddler. When he entered before my exam he came in alone because he failed the person before me. If you are going to take the road test don't go here. Two of my brothers came here to test and both got failed, mind you they both now have full licenses and have had no accidents. We thought the same guy might've already retired but he's still taking people's money. On a final note he spoke horrid English. He struggled to tell me what went wrong and his grammar was subpar. I'd expect better eloquence from someone in a position with such authority.
