The food tasted old...it just didn't taste very fresh. I'm not sure if they need new appliances but something is off. The fried chicken was very dry and the lasagna didn't have much taste either. The corn on the cob and mash potatoes were the best part of our meals. My cherry pie had a weird after taste and the cheesecake tasted old and it's effort to even put your spoon through it..Kool Aid is good as hell nonetheless.

My meal: Prime Rib w/sautéed mushrooms, Lima beans, Spinach, marinated Beets, Cobb Salad, Iced Unsweetened Tea, & Bavarian Chocolate pie!!!

We had a great meal tonight! After a day of landscaping work, I felt like I was starving! lol I had a small Cobb Salad with ranch dressing, marinated Beets, Prime Rib Steak with sautéed Mushrooms, Spinach, Lima Beans, and Bavarian Chocolate pie. (My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach! lol But I made it all fit, except for the Cobb Salad, which I've boxed up to take home. The serving line staff were all very friendly as well as the two gentlemen who were hosting the floor. A very nice dining experience for my entire family! Thank you, MCL!!!

Wonderful atmosphere. Courteous staff. Food tasting food served in generous proportions. I enjoyed my lunch.

There was nothing really great or really bad about this place. The food was average, but you do get a ton of it. There are lots of choices: fried chicken, chicken and noodles, pork, stuffing, green beans, mac and cheese, potatoes, etc. The options are endless. The prices are good, less than $10 per person. All the employees were friendly and provided great service.

Ask the Community - MCL Restaurant & Bakery

Is this a buffet style restaurant like Golden corral?

It is a cafeteria. Not a true buffet where you can create your own portions.

    Are their foods non-GMO?

I'm not sure. I'm sure if you ask they can tell you. It's a A + place to go.

I did see they allow you to make reservations on Open Table, so I booked it for a weekday to try it out. It wasn't nearly as busy as the parking lot looked, there was plenty of seating. It was a nice day so they had the windows open and they also had someone playing live music so it was a tad loud but, not overly loud where you can't hear your conversation. The menu is not your typical menu, it's very crafty if that's a word. The service was very good, and she explained the menu well and we took her up on her recommendations. Turkey pastrami which I had never had before. It tastes really fresh and felt healthy. The salad comes in a little small bowl but full of goodness. It's a really nice place for a girls night out, or a family dinner. Wouldn't consider it a good place for date night as it is pretty loud.

On my first visit, I had the tender meal (Medium+ spice) with the fries. The tenders were seasoned well, spicy as expected, and were larger than what I remember. I was full after eating two of them. The fries were fresh and hot and were also seasoned well - pair them with ranch and *chef's kiss*. The next day, I had the same meal to-go, but had greens instead of fries. Hands down....the best greens I've had in Indianapolis. These are the greens you want at Thanksgiving! The spice level was great, it had flavor, and I finished my cup wanting more of it! A wonderful surprise for sure. Customer Service: Based on the fraternity event, customer service was pushed to the limit. The staff remained polite and stayed busy. They did their best to find customers that had ordered food while navigating the crowd. Very professional and flexible. They are appreciated for their multitasking and hard work! Ambiance: The ambiance from the graffiti wall to the party light vibes on the inside is top tier. Outside of being s great restaurant, this was a welcoming party place with the food and drinks to match. They have a patio area for smoking and the party filled up the inside and easily spread outside to the patio. Started with Ika Geso Kara-Age: crispy but soft at same time with good flavor; Popcorn chicken: very tender meat with good after taste in the batter. These 2 doesn't even need a sauce to enjoy. The shrimp tempura is just ok, it's something you can get at Trader Joe's (it's exactly the same). The main courses are Shoyu chicken ramen: the soup is so good and flavorful. That aftertaste that hits the back part of the palate. The Pork Tonkatsu Omurice combo: presentation was great, the sauce wasn't overwhelming and actually made everything good. The menu is overwhelming, but everything we had was great and very filling. Definitely will come back. Service was attentive but not intruding. It's also great to have a call button in the huts. Kyuramen is that type of place, though. It's said that first impressions count, and if you want to visit a restaurant that makes a great first impression, this is the place. It's hard to describe the decor, but I'll try. There's a big, fake wooden tree in the middle of the restaurant. All around the tree are cozy, intimate booth pods that look like little huts. There's also seating that looks like a honeycomb, with more intimate booths, and an upstairs, if you wanted to sit a little higher. Tables are in the middle of the room, and there is bar seating, as well. There's a robot server that glides around the room, although, I never did interact with it. Booth seating was procured, because I love to feel nestled in a cozy space. The menu is large, as there was not one menu but four different menus: the regular menu, the specials, the milk tea / boba menu, the sake / alcohol menu. It can be a little overwhelming if you've never been here, or if you've never had ramen, because there are so many options. Luckily, the menu has lots of photos and descriptions. Or! Visit with someone who has had ramen and has opinions about ramen. Or! Ask the servers. They are very friendly and helpful. I got the Combo A1, which is Tokyo tonkotsu shoyu ramen, plus a pork bao, and a matcha and red bean pudding for dessert. The ramen was good but not my favorite, and I think I'll order a spicy ramen next time. The bao was amazing -- so fatty and meaty, and it was probably the largest bao bun that I've ever seen, let alone ate! The matcha pudding was the perfect ending to the meal, and came with a delicate mini pitcher of cream to pour over the pudding. I also got to try the tempura shrimp, and I think that's what I'll be getting next time! This might have been the best tempura shrimp I've ever eaten. The batter was perfect and crispy, and somehow melted in my mouth. I might need to revisit just to get tempura. They have a nice selection of sake here. They got your cold sake, hot sake, jelly sake, cloudy sake and even sparkling sake. What's a girl to do? Order the sake! I was eating a hot bowl of ramen, so I opted for the cold sake, which was nice and refreshing. This is such a chill place to have a bowl of ramen or a Japanese snack. The private booths make this place the perfect spot for an intimate meal, but it's also a great space for groups because they also have table seating.

The Brussels sprouts are an absolute triumph: perfectly blistered with a caramelized exterior and tender interior, dressed in a harmonious balance of bright acidity and savory depth. Little crunchy bits and a subtle smoky char add texture, while a finishing sprinkle (and a hint of something sweet-salty) elevates them from simple side to a show-stealer. The Korean salmon is equally impressive. The fish arrives flaky and moist with a richly glazed crust that carries sweet, spicy, and umami notes in perfect proportion. Layers of flavor -- gochujang-forward heat, sesame brightness, and a touch of citrus -- play against the salmon's natural richness without overpowering it. It's plated thoughtfully, with complementary sides that keep each bite balanced. If you're at Big Lug Canteen, don't pass up those two dishes -- they demonstrate skilled technique, bold yet nuanced seasoning, and a real sense of care in the kitchen.
