There is a big parking lot- but be careful, the driveway to get in is really narrow and only one car fits through at a time. There is no admission fee and it is free to walk around. You also don't need reservations. There is cornhole, picnic tables to sit at, a gift shop with local good slike honey and apples, a coffee truck, a lemonade truck and popcorn for sale. There are pumpkins everywhere of different shapes and sizes available for purchase in addition to gourds and mums. We bought a mum and it was $15. There are plenty of photo opportunities and a garden to walk around in. There is also a lot of space for kids to run around in. For an additional fee, there is a wagon ride you can take that will take you to see farm animals but we didn't do this. All in all, not as many activities in my opinion as some of the other pumpkin patches around town, but I did like how close it is to town compared to some of the other pumpkin patch options and it was super cute! Lots of parking, no lines for food, and plenty of room to roam in the pumpkin patch. We grabbed a wagon and some clippers and found a pumpkin to cut off the vine. There are plenty of pre-cut pumpkins too if you'd rather just pick one that way (and take some cute pics). The wood-fired pizza was SO good and fairly priced. We really enjoyed the salsiccia pie, but all of them sounded delicious. And had to get a half dozen cider donuts for the road, obviously. A lil context, I was looking for something to do solo and came across a "pick your own flowers" farm. But I found more than flowers. They had fields of berries, greens, honey from their hives and a selection of beautiful wildflowers. When I arrived there was a good number of moms with kids roaming the fields while pushing strollers and wagons. When I checked in they supplied me with a bucket for berries and told me which fields were open for picking. The flowers are per stem or fill a cup for $20. I filled my bucket which took about 30 minutes roaming 2 fields. The cost was a lot more than I would spend at the grocery store but now often do you get to make homemade strawberry preserves with berries you picked yourself?

Although, it was easy to make a reservation and there were a lot of time slots to choose from. This included seeing the animals (goats, pigs and bunnies), walking in the flower fields (a sunflower field and colorful flowers), the playground and taking photos. The playground really was not much and I think older kids would've gotten bored easily. For an extra fee, there is a corn pit to play in, a wagon ride and a train ride for kids. We did not do these. There wasn't a ton of places for photo ops, but there were some. They have a shop with goods for sale as well as some snacks and drinks like apple cider, slushies, apple cider donuts, alcohol, etc. We went the weekend after Halloween, so there weren't many pumpkins to see/choose from, but if we went earlier in the season I'm guessing there would have been. On the opposite side of the property, there was a Thai restaurant and a shop that served ice cream and alcohol. There were plenty of picnic tables and even a couple TV's showing football. This was a bit of a walk to get to, though. They also have pizza which you have to order ahead of time with your reservation if interested, but I've heard great things about the pizza. Keep in mind it is only porta johns, like many pumpkin patches. All in all, not my favorite pumpkin patch in the area, I questioned why we needed a reservation and to pay, it really didn't include much, but I'm wondering if we would've had a different experience if we went earlier in the season.

They…read morehave several varieties of blueberries to taste and pick, and encourage you to taste while weaving amongst the bushes, some of which are over 7 feet tall! The owners are very friendly and are happy to answer any questions or take you on a tour. If you come with kids, they might even offer to show you their secluded creek where you can enjoy the cool water or perhaps spot a crawdad like we did. If you love blueberries, I can't recommend this place enough! I would encourage coming early if it's a hot day as there is limited shade between the bushes and you'll quickly be looking for water, and don't forget to bring a cooler or something to take the blueberries home with you.

I've been looking for a great Strawberry Farm on my side of Charlotte since I moved here about two…read moreyears ago. Now that I'm about to leave, I finally found one. I have purchased strawberries from the Harrisburg stand but I had never been to the actual farm until today. I've been missing the Harrisburg stand all season long. But as I was on my way back from Raleigh today on 49, as if by magic, I saw the Cody Strawberry Farm sign. I was so excited and I immediately turned and went to the farm. I got about halfway down the road I thought to myself, "They probably don't take cards." And I quickly dismissed the thought and said "Everybody takes plastic now." Sure enough, when I got to the stand and ordered my berries and slushy, I pulled out my plastic only to be told that they only take cash or checks. Determined to get my goodies, I decided to head to the nearest ATM back in Richfield. The nice lady at the stand let me take the slushy anyway. I assured her I would be back to pay for it all. After about 10 minutes, I returned for my berries. She was kind enough to still comp the slushy since I went out of my way to go get the cash. That's great customer service! The slushy was absolutely delicious and the berries are too. So glad I finally caught them. Can't wait to come back! This is a great field trip for the kids. Just be sure to bring cash.

Great time at our first Oyster roast at the Windy Hill Orchard & Cidery! Oysters were steamed by…read moreSaltwater Markets and they did a great job of bringing fresh hot oysters out every half hour to all of the tables. Each standing table also had an empty tray to discard shells. Ample supplies were on hand - shuckers, gloves, paper towels, hot sauces, cocktail sauce, and saltines. Beverages were available for purchase - a selection of ciders and wine, soft drinks and bottled water. Many of their regular menu options are not served in the winter, but we find that to be a good reason to go back during peak season. All service was self service - walk up to the bar or walk over to find any oyster shucking supplies you may need. Souvenir glasses were also available. The staff who checked us in on arrival were kind enough to suggest we take those after our feast to avoid having to keep track of a pint glass while focused on our oyster shucking. A couple of fire pit spots were available and there were picnic tables under a covered shelter set up in the event that inclement weather moved in. It is truly a Windy hill - it's always windy when we are here and this event was no different. Live music was on hand - a solo artist with guitar whose name I didn't catch, but he was very talented and did a great job. He played mostly cover music from under the covered shelter area. Parking does involve a walk if you're not one of the very first to arrive. That walk is down a gravel path a little ways up the hill and not a great fit for wheel chairs or those who with mobility challenges. It would not be hard to drop someone off though near the front, then go park down the street and around the corner.

The orchard wasn't open for picking, but it was a beautiful day, so there were lots of picnic tables to sit and relax. After we shopped, we sat and enjoyed a donut and the outside. We arrived right as they opened on a Sunday, but it got very busy with families, small groups, dogs, and children after we arrived. This is a very family friendly spot, lots of parking, and a good amount of apple treats to enjoy. We had a nice time, and since it is only 1 hour from Charlotte area, will definitely go back again.
