Your grandparent's favorite RVA diner. Super unassuming from the outside and quite impressive on the inside! This place was much bigger than I expected it to be - plenty of seating and with an enormous menu. A bit pricier than I expected for your neighborhood diner-type food, but my friend really appreciated the smaller-size chicken and waffles, and I really enjoyed my simple breakfast sammy. Friendly staff that make you feel at-home. Overall would go again - especially based on location alone, it is so dang convenient!

It's the perfect spot for a good old-fashioned greasy breakfast! You feel like you're entering a time capsule when you go there, but in the best way possible. The staff is very friendly, and you get your food so quickly. This past time I had the biscuit and gravy with home fries and neither disappointed. if you want food like your grandma made, go to McLean's!

While staying in Scott's Addition, I stopped in here for breakfast on a weekday morning. The dining room there is quite large and I can see how they get very popular and crowded. The menu is loaded with all the typical breakfast usuals, nothing really stood out as being particularly special or homemade. I opted for their breakfast burrito and it was decent. The potatoes that came with it were very bland and basic. As for service, my server wasn't very attentive, he was more concerned with eating his breakfast. The other ladies working were helpful and attentive, keeping my coffee filled. The place did have a nice, family feel to it. I'm sure it's normally really spot-on, both service and food. One thing I didn't like was that they charge gratuity. Seems like there's a better way to do this (charge more for the food or don't do it at all).

Anywhere you and a friend can eat for less than 40$ leave a good tip and be stuffed with deliciousness is a win in my book! I had the hamburger steak with onions and gravy with collards and cornbread and Mac n cheese. Which was actually very flavorful despite the bland look My friend had the rockfish special with fried okra All of it was lip smacking good I also got to color:) The waitress was a sweetheart and very helpful We will be coming back for breakfast soon!

This is my first time in at McLean's since they extended their hours--even though I still made it in before the extended hours. Anyhow, I am a solid breakfast customer here, and was looking forward to trying the dinner food. My mom got the liver and onions with collard greens, mashed potatoes and gravy and a biscuit. She must've loved it since she ate almost every bite. I got the chicken fried chicken, mac and cheese, lima beans and roll. I enjoyed everything but the lima beans, which weren't cooked long enough and had very little seasoning. The mac and cheese was a little runny, but flavorful. And the chicken was on point, but could've used more gravy. Prices are great, and we'll definitely be back when in the mood for classic diner fare.

Parking- eek, 2 stars? Restaurant- yum!!! all the stars! We entered from the rear parking door and were sat right away- lunch rush in full swing, we ordered pretty quickly and drooled over the huge plates of wonderful smelling food passing by before ours arrived. My Barry Bird- turkey, bacon melt on fresh sourdough bread was simply a delight for the tastebuds- I remember just loving the bread! John ordered country fried steak with onion rings and apple sauce and the corn bread- good gracious, it was huge! You could tell this was the spot for locals- the servers knew customers by name! I love a place with return customers- it speaks volumes! Great prices, wonderful food, fantastic service! What more could you ask for! And the mayor was in about an hour before us!

What better place to come to after a night out than a diner like McLeans Restaurant. ***LOCATION*** I don't know how I never noticed this on Broad. My friends live right next to it so this is how it was brought to my attention. It's closer to the Scott's Addition side of Broad in an unassuming yellow building. ***EXPERIENCE*** This is the ultimate spot to come to for weekend diner food. Their brunch menu is great and there isn't a wait during normal high wait times on weekends. They were kind and quick about coffee refills. The service was wonderful. I tried their chocolate chip pancakes (very diner-like, but made me happy). Got scrambled eggs, bacon (on the crispier side), and home fries too. ***PRICE*** A great bang for your buck. Things range from $7-15 here. ***CONCLUSION*** If you want comfort/American food, this is your spot. It reminded me a lot of the diners we used to go to as teenagers on weekends and brought a beautiful sense of nostalgia. The food is what'd you'd expect from a diner, but enjoyable.

First time at this place and it didn't disappoint. Saturday morning wait was very reasonable and service was awesome. The food was AMAZING and the mimosas were only $6. I can't believe I've never been here before, but I will absolutely be back very soon.

    Breakfast Burrito
    Alexandra L.

Came here on a Wednesday morning and it was pretty full! Seems to be a popular local spot. The food was pretty good. I got the breakfast burrito, and while it was nothing exceptional, I would definitely get it again. The potatoes weren't great; they could use a bit of crispiness. The prices are decent and portions are pretty good. It is worth noting that they automatically add a 20% tip, but at least the service is great. My water never went below halfway and they were constantly asking to top off coffee. I would definitely be willing to revisit McLean's and try some of their other dishes.

Looks like they converted a garage, complete with the door! Parking is actually in the back.

They have table, high-top, bar, and patio seating available. The food: I opted for the Chicken and Waffles with a side of cheese grits. I chose to make it hot for more spice. It's served with one whole waffle, two large pieces of fried chicken, and syrup on the side. The chicken was not seasoned as much as I hoped and wasn't as spicy as I expected, which was a bummer. The cheese grits were alright as well, but not as flavorful as I hoped. My partner ordered the Double Barrel Bowl, and he really enjoyed it. It was packed with pulled pork and was plentiful and filling. The service: Great and kind service from Mave (I believe that is her name but I'm not entirely sure). She informed us about the daily specials and was attentive throughout our visit.

The staff were polite, but we had to ask several times to get items we were missing or things we wanted extras of. They checked in on us a fair number of times, but they still forgot to return to give us what we had asked for. By the time we were ready to leave, we still haven't gotten our dressings or our condiments. I also had asked for my burger to be well done, but I got a burger with quite a bit of pink in it. I didn't want to ask for it to be placed back on the grill because I didn't really want to wait longer for my food. Although I wanted my burger to be well done and I didn't get it that way, it was still pretty good. The fries though, I think was the best part of it. The fries were perfectly seasoned and crunchy! I also ordered a coke. Just a heads up, they don't do free refills on the sodas, so each cup is $4. My party also ordered salmon l'orange and a romano salad with salmon. My friends really enjoyed their main dishes, but we did ask for extra dressing. The restaurant is decorated in a boho-style vibe, and it was cute. We found the lighting on the side dining area to be a little bit too dim once the sun went down, but I do think it would've been perfect for a date night vibe. Overall, we had an okay experience.

The house is rich in history making it quite a special place for my husband and I to celebrate a momentous occasion. A drawback was how uncomfortable the seats were. My husband and I are like Vikings, very tall and stocky, so the seats felt too small. The average person will probably have no problem with them. My hubs ordered the seafood platter and was delighted in how delicious it was. I ordered the Black and Bleu Beef Tips with the filet and requested it be cooked medium rare. Unfortunately, it was mostly overcooked and tough. I expected the mushroom sauce to be more substantial and the bleu cheese to be enough to be tasted. I was very disappointed at what was a sprinkling of mushrooms on top and no distinct bleu cheese flavor at all. The twice baked potato was yummy, but I could not eat the asparagus as I found it bitter and undercooked. It made me regret paying the price it cost as I could not even enjoy half the portion. Service was good and yet not. We were served by three different people, including the manager who seemed to give most of her attention to one particular table. When she removed our plates without offering dessert, coffee, or tea it felt we were being hurried along. One older gentleman was very attentive. He made sure we were taken care of and satisfied. I wish I knew his name as I would love to give him all the stars. He was superb and comped us dessert in honor of our special occasion. We chose the tiramisu, and it was very tasty, perfect crispy top with the creamy underside. I do recommend this restaurant as an experience one should seek to enjoy. I believe you will love the historicity of the location, and the service will be a fine dining event. Your food may be hit or miss, depending on what you order, but I think the location itself is worth the risk.

The chicken tenders came with fries as well. The oysters were good, nice and crispy. The tenders were also delicious, especially with the BBQ sauce. The fries, while they looked crispy, were just a tad soggy for my taste. For our entrees, I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and my husband ordered the cubano. Our family ordered salads with salmon. Everything looked delicious and was fairly quick to come out. My sandwich came with ranch and it definitely helped tone down the saltiness of the Fried chicken. Just eating the chicken alone was too salty and I had asked for my fries extra crispy which were amazing. The cubano sandwich was good and well made and the side of Brussels my husband got were also crispy. The salads and the salmon looked good, definitely cooked well. This is the restaurant in the lobby of the Omni, and their room service menu has a really solid variety. Appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches, fish, chicken, steak, seafood, other meat options, plus plenty of sides and desserts. There's something for whatever mood you're in. For my appetizer I ordered the fried green tomatoes. I'm very picky about fried green tomatoes because if they're not done right, they can be greasy and heavy. These were not. They were thick wedges of firm green tomatoes in a light batter, stacked with a spread of pimento cheese and finished with a drizzle of honey. The balance of savory and sweet worked really well, and the texture was exactly what I look for -- crisp outside, tender yet firm inside. For my entrée I chose the roasted lamb rack. It came as two double ribs over a sweet potato purée that had a subtle hint of cinnamon -- really nice flavor without being overpowering. The lamb was cooked to the right temperature, juicy and tender, with a light chimichurri and vegetables alongside. I also ordered the grilled corn succotash as a side -- corn, beans, and tomato.
