McMenamins is always a great late-night stop. The tuna sandwich was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I was craving. The Cajun tots with peppercorn ranch never disappoint and are my go-to late-night snack. Now let's talk about the blackberry cider. I think I just found my new favorite. Ruby who? Terminator who? Alejandro, my man, thanks for the amazing time. The Lounge is very cute, and the light changes as well as sometimes there's fog in the water feature! They have a unique menu in the Lounge, and the wings are superior! And the sauce is amazing. I also love how the drinks (Tiki) are listed with a "moon," to show you how strong they are, super helpful when deciding. Cause if you like it strong, you know what to get or if want a lighter drink, as Tiki can be intense, you don't end up sabotaging yourself. Haha. I wish there was a half star option, as the only real ding here was that they don't seat in the lounge without your whole party (and yes, I get that there's a time limit, so I suppose that they are trying to make sure everyone has time), but, there's nowhere to wait, so was left standing by the door for some time. I called this location after seeing their new 'tiki speakeasy' being advertised. I have an allergy to cinnamon & because of this i am unable to go to most tiki bars (cinnamon is commonly used to light drinks on fire & the smell/particles often linger in the air.) I asked the woman who answered the phone if they use cinnamon to catch their drinks on fire. She said "we have a drink on our menu with a cinnamon stick in it." I tried to clarify the question, & was immediately met with attitude followed by "yes there is cinnamon in the drink." I was frustrated, thanked her & hung up. No answers. My friend decided to try themselves stating that maybe they were misunderstanding the question. A different person answered, he explained that he was planning on coming in with someone with a cinnamon allergy & asked the question yet again. Further asking if it was only in the speakeasy or also the main restaurant. They responded stating "yeah, We have cinnamon in our building. I don't think we are the place for you" & continued to hangup. SO if anyone has any answers that would be great as we still haven't gotten any. We DID go in. I was hoping we would be able to see for ourselves & had been looking forward to checking it out. Sat in the main restaurant & received slow service in an empty restaurant from a server that was standoffish & made it seem as though we were a burden. Decided that we would go somewhere else instead. We each had one drink & left. I left 2 stars because i like the ambience & understand people have bad days. It'd been about a year since eating here due to poor service in the past but decided to give them a chance for redemption. They have improved! I'd be closer to a 3.85 star but since I can't give that I rounded it to a 4. We were seated almost immediately upon entering and the waitress was friendly. Nice change from past experiences. Ordered a burger with canjun tots as well as a cup of clam chowder. The food was decent. The tots were probably the best part. Crispy and perfectly seasoned. I didn't try the burger as I didn't order it but we weren't asked how we wanted it cooked and it was a little more pink than preferred. The clam chowder could have been a bit more hearty but had good flavor. I'm pleased to see an overall improvement and won't avoid this place like the plague like I was previously. This was the third time my husband & I had dinner there & realized it's our last! Again, the place hardly had any customers there. We sat in booth for about 15 mins. No one checked on us or gave a menu. We moved to the bar & was pretty much ignored. The bartender must have been new, he seemed confused as to what he was supposed to be doing. We finally were able to get a menu & order. Getting our food took quite awhile, when we did our food was over cooked (stale bread & tepid fries & hard). Stopped in for a quick bite because I wanted a burger. I live less than 10 mins away but have never been to this location before so I thought I would just stop in. The service was okay... a little slow. The food was also just okay. Usually we get asked how we want the burger cooked, but the waitress didn't ask us this time. When we received our food, the order of tots came out fresh and hot but my truffle fries came out barely warm. We always get cajun tots so I wanted to try their truffle fries this time. I was not impressed. The truffle fries were just regular fries and it came with a garlic aioli sauce? Had I know that, I would have just gotten the Cajun tots. I don't plan on stopping back in any time soon, but if I do, I most likely won't be getting the burger or "truffle" fries again. read more

It's been years since I've been to a McMenamin's and the East Vancouver location was the perfect reintroduction. Their seasonal cocktails were our favorites! They were delicious. The pricing is questionable. This is pub food. It really shouldn't cost as much as it does. The food is pretty good, but it's not $20/plate good. I have always enjoyed going to a McMenamins. I love the location of this particular one. However, the food is awful. A year ago I had a friend in town and we decided to go here and we both had cheese burgers. The patty was like a hockey puck, it was so over cooked. Today, I met a couple friends for happy hour. I had ordered their steak tacos to go. Per their menu, they use ribeye steak for these. When I finally got the chance to start eating, the meat was not steak, rather a ground beef of sorts. Maybe they ground the steak? Seems odd to me that they would. I don't know. But the amount of grease that came out of these bad boys was unbelievable. There other locations I've always had great meals. It's sad they can't be consistent with things. I will only go back for the Ruby beer. No food for me. read more

This is verbatim what the menu described: "MAI THAI SALAD romaine, cabbage, tomato, cucumber, pickled daikon-carrot slaw, cilantro, jalapeño, onion, fried shallots, tom kha peanuts, mai Thai dressing" The salad came and it did not have tomato, cilantro, jalapeño, onion, or shallots. It was a romaine lettuce salad with tiny bits of cabbage, slivers of daikon, and some peanuts on top for $14. Not even close to the description. If I wanted a garden salad with nothing on it, that Is what I would have ordered... This was the last stamp we needed to fill out our Vancouver passport page, which is surprising, because I've been here several times before, and it's close to where I work! What distinguishes a non-hotel McMenamins pub from any other local pub? What makes it stand out? Their food is generally solid yet not overwhelming. For me, it's the decor. The ambiance. I'd forgotten how much I like the interior of the East Vancouver location, especially when the sun's gone down. The pink and amber-hued lamps and lanterns, like floating candles in a sea of darkness, really transform this place from a simple brewpub into something...else. The kind of place I want to hang out, to read, write, or catch up in conversation with a loved one or an old friend. For my dollar, you're not going to find many more enchanting interior spaces (in Vancouver, anyway) than this pub in an unremarkable, unassuming strip mall on the east side. Don't let the exterior fool you: come inside and be transported somewhere far from the ever-growing urban sprawl of Fisher's Landing. read more

Red Robins are better and you get bottomless fries. Burgers are starting at $16-$21!! Here comes In n Out. Fish and Chips $21, Burgerville halibut for $15. Expect this location to shut down. Overall a decent meal. Took a few for anyone to acknowledge us standing at enterance. Found this place on bring Fido dot com. The tables outside area tiny bistro style, two person tables. As a party of four, we ended up eating indoors. My Baja Bowl was fan freaking-tastic. My dark and stormy wasn't very good cocktail at all sadly. Pizza eaters in our party said their pizzas were okay. Mcmenamins East Vancouver is not as strong of an offering compared to other local locations. However they have Scooby snacks so I always come here. Their service is usually slower and below the average for McMenamins locations. However it is close in East Vancouver and conveniently located for a lot of people. The food is what you would expect. You can't go wrong with the tots. If you're in East Vancouver, this is a convenient location; otherwise I'd skip and go to a bigger McMenamins for better service. read more

Buzzed in here around 4:30pm on a Tuesday. The $4.00 happy hour pizza was delicious. The hammer head ipa was no d and cold. Bartender was cool and very attentive. I came in on a Wednesday night at 6:00 and it was busy. Like everywhere else, the employees working were feeling the burden of being short staffed. A couple were complaining to each other about it. I get it. I wonder if they know guests can hear though. I have been coming to McMenamins for years and have never had the garlic knots until today. They were quite tasty. This location has a nice view. I really enjoy visiting it. Even as they get a large crowd, they still work at getting customers seated. Usually you can get a seat at the bar and wait, or you can order a drink and wait in the small waiting area. The food is good and depending on the time of day, the service can be fast or slow. I find that going during off peak hours is the best. Either way, the employees are friendly and helpful. Recommend: Order something from the specials meal since it changes. read more

I went here for my dad's birthday and we all ordered the fish and chips. My nephews ordered the kids pizzas which were absolutely delicious, except for the cheese was completely falling off which is understandable, but not really especially if you're giving it to a child and it should be cooled off and ready for them to eat. I've heard great things about McMenamins and finally decided to try the East Vancouver location. It was very disappointing. Both the food and the customer service was poor. Their menu online does not match what they offer. The online menu states salad and soup as a side option, however when I ordered they told me the only thing offered are fried options. I have a severe allergy to canola oil and I couldn't eat any of their sides. I told them no side for my burger and they still decided to put tots in my container. They were not transparent about what oil is in their food and what is cooked in the oil, I had a very severe allergic reaction. Aside from getting sick from the oil, the food at this location is BAD. The burger tasted like it was cooked at the beginning of the day and reheated, the burger actually cut my mouth when chewing, and the bread tasted stale. The customer service was horrible when picking up the order. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet the man behind the bar was very rude for no apparent reason. I dont recommend this location and honesty I don't know if I will ever try another location with how horrible this experience was. read more

The only reason this cringe-worthy experience didn't get a 1 star review is because Tamara made this such a #2 situation that 1 star simply doesn't cut it. The bar is dirty, sloppy and the service is lackluster. Tamara, the assistant manager who likes to yell loudly at customers instead of address concerns, thinks it's acceptable to be argumentative about it being "her space" when we attempted to address the less than satisfactory situation we and others in the establishment were experiencing. My husband was craving a Spanish Coffee so we brainstormed places in the area that we could possibly get one. We figured we'd give McMenamins a try. And, boy, did we get lucky! The bartender made the BEST Spanish Coffee we ever had. Other restaurants who are known for their Spanish Coffee cannot even compare to McMenamins'. The flavor was robust with the perfect amount of cinnamon spice, fluffy whip cream on top, and a sugar rim. We'll definitely be back. read more
