I think this place has gotten by on location for a while now. We tried it again tonight. It was ok...not great and not horrible. The salmon was tasteless and the seafood risotto had 2 prawns and one small chunk of salmon in it. They weren't crazy busy and it took 10 minutes to get my iced tea and the table salt we requested twice never showed up. Like I said it was ok, I didn't hate it. Came here with my wife for an evening dinner last night. Weather was nice so we sat outside. We both ordered the Ribeye Steak with mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies. I also ordered a "simple" whiskey sour, but was probably one of the fanciest whiskey sours I've ever had. The food and drinks were both great. We went here for dinner after our return to Vancouver. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. We sat outdoors because the weather was perfect. The ambience is modern, sleek, and upscale. Our server, Daniel, was top notch and very accommodating to our every request. He was attentive without being overbearing. I started with the heirloom and mozzarella salad and it was excellent. The vegetables had robust flavor so you could actually taste what you were eating, It was a great choice. The wife had a "Main salad" which came with a crab cake, smoked salmon, and boiled shrimp as the proteins. I tried the smoked salmon and it was tender, not dry, with a mild smoke flavor. The rest of the salad were assorted vegetables that you find in a salad and everything was fresh. I had a pepperoni and mushroom pizza which was too much for one person. The crust was thin and crispy and the toppings were generous. It was a very good pizza. The kid had a burger with grilled vegetables. The meat was smoky and charred, good quality meat. For dessert, the wife and I split a piece of carrot cake and it was outstanding. It had great flavor and was very moist. One of the best I have ever tried. It's my second time here and my clients always know to take me back when I'm in town, and I'm grateful! Fantastic place, beautiful interior that works for business, or casual, and even for a romantic rendezvous! I had the ribeye last time and was quite happy. Two on our table did this time and were equally pleased. I went for the short rib and it didn't disappoint! Mine was on the fatty side--which I happen to like--so if the gelatinous, fatty layer on top of beef does not appeal to you, perhaps mention it to your server (though 2 others in our party had it and weren't as lucky as me with their beef fat content). The candied deviled eggs weren't bad, just nothing special. We had crab cakes too, and I definitely liked the slaw better than the cake. I wish I subbed my potato salad (nothing special) for it. Great wine selection and tons of interesting beer as well. Our server Samantha was a delight! She had the most lively way of describing the specials for the evening, that half of us were swayed to try it. We were invited to The Hammond by a friend this past summer. It was a solid invite. Drinks were great. The martini was lovely, the bartender was very friendly. We both opted for salads. They were lovely. The chef is obviously attentive to all the menu items and does a wonderful job of prep and presentation. I've been here a handful of times and have always been impressed. The food, the environment, the service are all top notch. We wanted something different and haven't eaten in Camas before, so we found The Hammond Kitchen and Craft Bar. We loved it and will definitely be back! I had the Vegan Mushroom Burger but switched out the vegan Gouda for Swiss cheese. It was delicious but I think I should have tried the vegan cheese just to be able to offer a more accurate review. I have never had this kind of "burger" before, so I can't compare it to anything, but I enjoyed the flavors. He had the Sirloin Dip and said it was spectacular. It was tender, had a little horseradish on it, and the flavors of the Rosemary Parmesan bread complemented it very nicely. Our sides were the fries (very tasty) and the bar slaw which was almost like a version of a Caesar slaw. I enjoyed it and would get it again. We made reservations, were seated right away, the staff was friendly and attentive. They made sure my switch of cheese was done correctly before they brought it to the table. The restaurant was moderately busy but not overly loud and the decor was warm and rustic casual. I ended up coming back since my husband and friend wanted to go to the range next door and I joined for dinner after. This time around we had better luck finding the right menu items. Steak ordered medium-rare but served medium-well. Unfortunately, the server did not come to check on our party to see if the steak was cooked appropriately until well into the meal. Server was attentive otherwise. Cocktails were a miss -- Old Fashioned was poorly executed and over-diluted. The acoustics are very boom-y and echo-y, so you will need to raise your voice to have a conversation at your table if the dining room is remotely crowded. Also, the restaurant being tucked away in a strip mall is odd. However, everything does admittedly look nice. Thought I would give The Hammond Kitchen a try since we enjoyed our dining experience at The Cove in Vancouver. Evidently the two restaurants are related by ownership. Anyway The Hammond Kitchen did not disappoint. It's a modern, classy and reminiscent of the restaurants we frequented in Scottsdale, AZ. When we lived there. Our waitress was professional, punctual and made sure we were well taken care of. The food was delicious and even the side dishes were brimming with flavor. We had the mushroom focaccia bread for our appetizer which was absolutely delicious. I had the halibut plate and my wife the vegan mushroom burger plate. Both excellent in their own respect. For desert we shared the lemon ricotta cheesecake which was obviously freshly made and also absolutely delicious. I would certainly order it again. My steak and salmon special was good. My veggies were a bit cold tho. The mashed potatoes were good too. I really liked the garlic they added to the spuds. I ordered my steak medium and it came out more in the well side. But the pieces of steak is and the salmon are only 2 inches wide and like 3 inches long. So not very big. Just seems like for $42.00 you would get a little more portion size. Oh well, others liked their soups and salads. Great ambiance as well. read more

The fish was overcooked and dry.The fries tasted like they were a day old that were just left on the counter.Totally tasteless and Everything was room temperature. I do love the vibe of the restaurant but truthfully I've never eaten here in-person. I'm very hopeful. I ordered online the Crab & Shrimp Cannelloni and a Key Lime Ricotta Cheesecake. My first few bites of the cannelloni were full of rich flavors. I didn't initially taste the crab or shrimp. It was probably my third or fourth bite that the crab and shrimp flavors came through. Not all the cheese was fully melted but the over all dish was tasty. The key lime ricotta cheesecake was the star. It was yummy. Not too sweet, not too tart. The texture was quite smooth. This was the first time visiting this restaurant with my husband for a celebration. We read enough reviews that we needed to make a reservation. When we were there, it was very empty. This is a large restaurant and I think reservation may not be needed on weekdays. We started out with the crab cake starter. It took a long time for the starter to arrive. When it came, I was surprised to see how tiny the crab cake was. However, it was full of shredded crab and no filler. Flavor was excellent. I think it was my favorite dish there. It came with 2 small crab cakes and creamy coleslaw with red cabbage. The coleslaw was very good as well. My husband had the ribeye and I had the crab and shrimp cannelloni. Ribeye came with grilled asparagus and my husband upgraded the garlic mashed potato to Mac & cheese for an additonal $3. The medium ribeye was prepared closer to medium well. The ribeye was just okayed. I had it better at other steakhouse. The asparagus had a great smokey grilling flavor. The mac & cheese was super tasty and cheesy. I enjoyed the mac & cheese so much that I couldn't help taking bites from my husband's plate. My cannelloni was good but it was too strong on the tomato sauce. I wish they put more crab and shrimps in this dish. I was disappointed to find so little crab after eating their tasty crab cake. I couldn't find any shrimp at all. All in all, the service was good. The food overall has good flavor. The portion size is on the small size. Beware that they don't offer any condiment on the table. Considering the price of the dishes I would give this restaurant a 3.5 stars. read more

3 stars because of hits & misses. This is an upper crust establishment as reflected by the prices (see menu pix). For 2 entrees plus one appetizer (+ tax & gratuity), our bill was about $120. For that amount, everything should shine, but it didn't. The crabcake appetizer ($23) was chock-full of real crab but each cake was smallish, probably 2-inch Dia. & an inch tall. The shrimp/crab cannellon ($29), while tasty was drowned in the marinara sauce, so much so that any seafood flavors were obscured. The ribeye steak ($45) was about 10-12 oz. and on the thin side, such that ordering it cooked "medium" was the wrong choice (dry-ish and not tender). Substituting mac n' cheese (for mashed potatoes- $3 surcharge) was a good idea given that this side was ooey-gooey. The grilled asparagus had exceptional grilled flavor (5 stars for these 2 sides). The waiter was friendly and attentive, the hostess was cold and nonchalant. Ambiance was modern rustic, nice but somewhat sterile, more business than romance. If not for the somewhat inflated prices, The Hammond should rate 4 stars based on flavor & ambiance, but at this price point one expects excellence throughout, which was not our experience. read more

We made a reservation for Friday night which helped as we were sat right after we arrived. I really liked the decor and design of this place. Dark but with big windows and lots of beautiful wood features. The downside of where our table ended up being was the windows. Why are windows bad, you ask? Because these windows on the far side of the bar look right into the trash and recycling area for the whole building. This area is perfectly hidden to the public eye from the outside of the building (i.e. the parking lot). But for any patrons in this part of the restaurant, you get to look out on trash bins, trash and flies. I feel that this ugliness could be easily remedied with that window film that obscures or blurs whatever is on the other side, they wouldn't even need to cover the whole window. Anyway, it wasn't too busy yet so I felt our service was good. We ordered the regular deviled eggs to start and received them so fast, it seemed that they just have these orders ready to go. They were very good but for a party of 4, having 5 eggs in the appetizer was kind of awkward. As we ordered our main plates, we asked the wait person if the cheesesteak was good and her reply was that "it has been selling well". She said similarly about a couple other items as well, which to me meant that she hadn't actually tried them herself or didn't actually know if they were good or not. It's all about the phrasing I suppose. Anyway, I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, two people at our table got the fish and chips and one person ordered the seafood pasta. Our overall wait time wasn't too long so that was nice, the pasta coming to the table last. My sandwich looked really good but was just way too messy. Most fried chicken sandwiches are, don't get me wrong, but not to this extent. It was difficult to eat. And given that this restaurant seemed somewhat nice, it was a bit annoying to be covered in juice from the slaw and my meal falling apart in my hands. The bun was also kind of interesting, maybe an over toasted & buttered roll? The parm fries were ok, not as parm-flavored as they looked. Overall the flavors were good, but execution was lacking. Took my sister-in-law out for dinner as a celebration for her retirement, the hubby and i had been there a couple of years ago for dinner and another time for lunch, both meals were quite tasty. This time was different, the hubs and and sister ordered short ribs with mashed potatoes and they both said food was good and portions were large. I ordered the cobb salad, expecting a decent amount of toppings and nice presentation considering the salad was 26$, what i got was a mound of lettuce, a couple of wafer thin slices of avocado, a poorly cut hard boiled egg, ten grape tomatoes, two shrimp that tasted and had the texture of shrimp from the shrimp ring you buy at supermarkets, an okay crab cake, and what i can only describe as a piece of salmon possibly poached in liquid smoke(my salad smelled like a bon fire). When asked i said the salmon was inedible, not just over smoky but dry as dirt also, i was told" i could bring you a different kind of salmon, but then i would have to charge you for it". I told my dining companions" why would i want to pay for another piece of salmon they would also destroy?" I was starving so ate what i could, 3/4 of my salad was left, they did give us a discount on my salad, but still 13$ for a couple of cold shrimp and a small crab cake is ridiculous. The restaurant itself is lovely and we found it pretty quiet where we sat, there are glass partitions left from covid and that cut the noise significantly. They were on the small side and the squash was a delight. .I loved it. The pork belly was nice, but you couldn't really taste it. Mac & cheese, super creamy. very well prepared. Everything was a nice portion. The Caesar salad was nicely chopped. The dressing was good, however, very overpowering. Too much. The croutons were very hard and to me a hard pass. Inedible. I love salad, but this was my least favorite of what we enjoyed. I had a featured cocktail. A special martini drink that was super delicious. It had pear and a pretty flower floating in it.
