Wow this place has great food. Service is pretty good too. But there seems like there's a ploy in play to get you in the place. Since the rooms in the conjoined hotel upstairs don't have TVs, or chairs to sit on, and usually it's raining in dreary Oregon (no wonder everyone's huffin a jay) you'll end up in the Pub. It's okay though. If you're one of those alky types who likes to torture the internal organs with various micro brews, this is the place for you. Food wise, there is no Hollandaise sauce for the grilled asparagus at this establishment, but they more than make up for it with the apple-pecan bundt cake with the rum raisin sauce. Emphasis on the rum. You'll be unfit to drive after eating this dessert. Wow was it fine. Only thing better was if it was warmed up. read more

Slow AF. Why can't I find any fish and chips in Oregon that give a s#&t? Why is it all boring and basic and unexciting? My counterparts enjoyed their meal. One had a chicken sandwich (came with a whole chicken breast) and the other devoured a burger. It's a fantastic place; the inside is inviting and very social. Everything about it is super friendly, and there is always lovely indoor and outdoor seating, including a setting on Third Street and rooftop access! On the other hand, there are slightly limited options for food, and the quality could be better sometimes. For example, the hummus was very fresh, and everything was good, but when I got tater tots with my burger, they were brutal! When I tried to eat them, they exploded into dust. Also, there are better places for service. Overall, it is an okay place to go, especially if you have a larger party. read more

The rooftop bar at this location is great because you get a view of the city as well as the hot and/or breezy patio experience. When I first sat down, it was early on happy hour, so I had a lot of space and quiet to enjoy my beer. The raspberry nitro tasted great! After a while, it got packed out here. I enjoyed good company and the food is reasonable. The downstairs area isn't that special. I'd give it a 3. Very nice service, but the breakfast was nothing to write home about. My first time dining in the McMenamins Pub in the Hotel Oregon in McMinnville. We ordered Truffle Fries with black garlic aioli ($5.75) and a Goat Cheese Torta with sun-dried tomato, basil pesto, and garlic crostini ($8.50). I order a beer flight (Cascade, Porter, Ruby, Session, Term, and Wheat), and left the selections up to the bartender. Our server, Noah, did a great job, very fast and friendly, and willing to share loads of information about the hotel and McMinnville. The Pub, and the 40+ room hotel, is an eclectic mix the chain calls "historical surrealism," combining local history, humor, and a twisted, artful audacity that is very entertaining! It takes a while to walk anywhere in the the hotel, because I find myself stopping, reading, and looking at the pictures, on the walls. We stopped by McMenamins late-ish in the evening when we arrived to McMinnville. Good news: it's open later than other establishments. They have outdoor seating in the blocked off street and a rooftop bar. Unfortunately the rooftop bar was full when we went- I'd suggest reservations. We just grabbed a drink and snack. Spicy Margarita was good, the beer was cold, and our tots came out fresh from the fryer. I enjoyed it and would go back. read more

I'm honestly baffled that the food here was so bad! We ordered DoorDash, not wanting to go anywhere, but also not wanting fast foodie stuff. We've been pleased with McMenamins before, but this one was just inedible! Did their cook not know that you're supposed to cut the fat off a NY strip steak, not cook it as is? The steak was literally 90% fat. Most people don't like to eat fat off the steak as it has no flavor, difficult to chew, and disgusting. Also, the steak was not cooked to order, medium well means BARELY ANY PINK, but the steak had quite a pit of pink in there. The only thing decent on the plate was the mashed potatoes, which barely had flavor. Even the broccolini tasted like it was just thrown on the plate, not cooked, not seasoned just there. I ordered a salmon burger looking for something a little different. It was like a sushi roll on a bun, but completely soaked in soy sauce I think. It was very runny, and very difficult to eat without a fork and knife, which in itself if a hard feat. PLUS the salmon itself, flakey but dry. I felt the only way it was okay was because the bun and slaw and everything else was super super wet, it drowned the salmon in my mouth a bit, but it was still difficult to chew. By far the worst mean we've had here, and probably won't be ordering again. Which is a shame, because we're local and there aren't many good non-fast foodie places that aren't Mexican Food in town. read more

You will notice well founded complaints here about the service in this business. I have to concur: two of the several restaurant staff members have been so consistently (to me and others) violently (slamming glasses, attacking polite utterances with interruptions, barking "I'm BUSY" in response to customers simply waiting in polite and patient silence, violent, unprovoked scowls, etc) and selectively (they behave decently to select customers) RUDE that I and many others who have been nothing but patient and polite with these two have decided to post our experiences here, and not come back. Again, we have all suffered this behavior without having been anything but calm, patient and polite with these two. The experience for me has soured my taste for the entire business that I will no longer be staying in the hotel, as these two work in the building. Please post here if you, too suffer unprovoked rudeness from the two problematic restaurant/ bar servers here. I have heard four other customers turn and talk to me about this weird behavior to me on three occasions, and these customers all noted that the rudeness was selective, and it was severe enough for these people never to want to come back. The restaurant is connected to a very lovely hotel, so I first attempted to avoid the restaurant in the evening to avoid the behavior of the foul evening shift worker, only to come across an almost equally rude server on the day shift. Hiring help may be a challenge, but (luckily) I have found plenty of businesses in the area that do not employ people like these two. It's a shame as well because the rest of the staff (the majority) was congenial to extremely pleasant. read more

The location, history, rooftop views, cellar bar, and other decorations carry the weight of this review. If you take away everything, and put the same food in a different building, it's a 4 star place. You don't come to a pub expecting the same experience as a boutique eatery where you spend at least $50 per person. So anyone complaining needs to consider that this restaurant serves a different market, and at an affordable price. The food is good, and the salads were very good. I love their Cajun tots. Addicting. The burgers are also pretty good. Service has always been pleasant. The rooftop views are great, something you won't find anywhere else in McMinnville. More than enough beers and cocktails to choose from. Live music in the cellar bar. Never stayed here in the hotel, but if the food is an indicator, I'm sure it would be pleasant. It also comes with the well known habit of Mcmenamins service not being all that awesome. Just remember you're going for the quirky art and eclectic atmosphere and not timely service or truly excellent food. Oregon is known for having exceptional beer and breweries and Mcmenamins jumped on that bandwagon successfully with their super unique branding. But that's it. It's bar food. Not spectacular. Firstly, I appreciate that this place was open Christmas Day. My mom didn't want to cook but she wanted to do something different. I live in Portland and she lives in Hubbard with my step dad. We drove about 45 minutes, it was a great drive. But that's pretty much where the good times ended. We waited for ages for our water. They brought out our appetizers only after I asked, and it was about 10 minutes before our main course. The people sitting across from us, a bigger group received their main course before their appetizers, I over heard them complaining. My mother and I both ordered the shrimp scampi which was mostly bowl. The noodles where cool in some spots and warm in others, but barely edible. The wait staff was obviously annoyed. I don't even blame them. I blame management for obviously not having enough staff to handle the amount of people there. Definitely the last I go to any Mcmenamins pub. I'm not sure what happened but I've been going to Mcmenamins since I moved up here in the late 90s and the all around quality has definitely sunk to an all time low over time. read more

Your standard McMenamins fare and beer. Hard to go wrong but neither better nor worse than any other McMenamins. What makes this place cool is the rooftop seating. The view is just breathtaking and you can pretty much see in any direction. It is a pretty far drive from just about anywhere but if you are in the area or up for a road trip (about an hour or so from Portland) it is worth checking out once. read more

I'll preface by admitting that I have low expectations when I step into a McMenamins. I expect what I've received in the past: bad service, over-priced food, and mediocre beers. This weekend, however, I had a pretty good experience and I thought I should share. From start to finish, every employee was friendly and helpful. Wow! Could every location take note? This alone made our dining experience a thousand times better. Oddly though, at 11:30am, they said if we were ordering food, it would take an hour and a half. Unfortunate experience yesterday around happy hour. We ordered two glasses of White Rabbit and two orders of fish and chips. The food came out first. Fish was good, some of the fries were black in the middle, slaw was dry. Wine came at least five minutes after the food. Server came by and asked how things were. Mediocre, and we started to say what was wrong, and he just walked away. I think his name was Shane, an entitled millennial, and we were absolutely flabbergasted that he just walked away when we were talking to him about a problem. He should be fired immediately. My dinner companion manages a huge restaurant. She was livid, and had never seen anything like it in all her years in the industry. Manager came over, took the wine off the bill, because the wine took so long to come out, even though we asked him not to make any adjustments to the bill. As much as we appreciated the free wine, the manager wasn't listening to us. We had to hold up the black French fry and ask him if he would eat that. He said no. Meanwhile, Shane was too much of a coward to come back to the table to take care of the check, so we left cash and reluctantly, a very small tip-- only because we didn't want to wait for change-- not because he earned it. The sad thing was, we're easy customers, a very easy 20% tip, and have had many good experiences at Hotel Oregon in the past. It's remarkable how one incompetent server can ruin things, and a manager with good intentions who doesn't really listen doesn't really fix things. We will probably go back at some point, but if that server is there, we will leave. read more

McMenamins has always been reliable for a few if their dishes. This trip however was a disappointment. The Brussels Sprout starter was greasy and lacked any flavor. $13 wasted. I have been to several of the McMenamin's properties over the years and this one is very nice. My wife and recently moved to McMinnville and have discovered that the food at the Pub is excellent. I particularly like their steak and it is excellent and is priced well too. Since making the discovery we have been back and we have yet to have anything other than a great dinner. read more

We stopped by this classic pub on our way through Oregon, I've eaten here on other trips and wanted to take my husband and children. The historic hotel is amazing and the ambiance of the pub is great. We had the absolute BEST server, she was friendly and happy and courteous. Sadly, the food was awful. All of our tots and fries were fried to the point that they were greasy and crumbly. I ordered the Hawaii 5-0 sammy, the bread was dry and unappealing and the filling was a tiny bit of pulled pork with a slice of Canadian bacon and canned pineapple. My husband's El Diablo sammy was just a basic chicken sandwich with absolutely nothing of any culinary interest on it. For $20+ each, this meal was embarrassing. The 2 stars are strictly for our amazing server. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

Out last dining experience ended a couple years ago when my husband ordered a main dish shrimp salad that had two shrimp on it- tonight we decided to give them another go. Our waitress was friendly and attentive- however, we waited about an hour for our food to come and the place was not exactly hopping by then. My rice bowl with tofu was bland, pathetic, and lacked any salt- it also included green peppers - whereas red peppers were listed on the menu. Tasteless and banal describes this dish- my husband had a thimble full of Cole slaw with his fish and chips ( which included a thick and gooey batter) and limp French fries which appeared to be boiled In water rather than fried. There are four different bars at the Hotel Oregon. This is the big one on the first floor. It has great street views of the main street in the historical downtown. There is a lot of McMenamins type of art on the walls, as well as TV's showing sports (without sound). It features a standard McMenamins menu. They did have candied hazelnuts on the happy hour menu. The service was ok people kept coming by and asking if we had been helped. The food took awhile to come and my fries arrived barely warm. The restaurant is nice and it is clean but I would recommend the Rooftop bar. The service and views are better there. In all I give the main floor pub a weak three stars. read more

My first time at this site, we had a number of problems. I think our waitstaff was new. She apologized for the wait early on, we said we were not starving, we just wanted things right. The food took an hour, half of it was cold, some items were missing and we had to ask for them a couple of times. The manager tried to give us dessert or comp the bill, but we weren't trying to get free stuff - we just wanted what we ordered done right. We came down to McMinnville to visit our friend Rich this past Sunday. It was his choice where we were going to eat. I was kinda hoping he was going to pick that fast food place (Alf's) that has a live monkey, but no, he opted for McMenamins. I wasn't sure what to expect, because I've read quite a range of opinions on Yelp about the gargantuan McMenamins chain. No worries though, we had an enjoyable lunch. McMenamins is located smack dab in the Corvallis-style downtown. Once inside McMenamins, we took the elevator to the outdoor pub & grub on the rooftop. While waiting for the elevator, I had a chance to peruse the huge paintings in the elevator lobby. They were cool, and I especially liked the painting of the two women that was created by engraving grooves into wood and filling the grooves with white paint, yielding an effect like a photo taken in noontime sunshine. I haven't seen that technique applied before. It was seat yourself on the rooftop, and with mid-September sunshine and a mild temperature, perfect for eating outside. The view up here, which includes a panorama of the Coast Range, is pretty amazing. Service was great - friendly and responsive - with our meals being brought out in good time. For an appetizer, we went with the chicken wings/drumsticks, served with celery and ranch dressing. I really liked the wings because they were just lightly seasoned, not sour and gooey like Buffalo wings often are. I also ordered a cup of the daily soup, which if I remember correctly, was "West Indies chicken". Containing curry, it was really delicious! JP ordered a burger with hand-cut fries and I ordered a burger with tots (I always order tots when tots are available). Rich went with a turkey sandwich. Our burgers were great, with good meat and nice toppings. But be warned, the hamburger patties are hefty - so - if you go for one, you may not be able to finish it if you have ordered appetizers too. Oh, try to avoid going back to Portland by way of Dundee on a Sunday afternoon. The traffic on 99W there gets real baaaaaad. read more
