Service was average for a typical Mcmenamins. If you've been to the majority of Mcmenamins, you know what I'm talking about... Our server was very polite, friendly, appeared overwhelmed, and seemingly empathetic to our wait, and to our overly priced, paper thin, Margherita pizza. The pizza: After about 30 minutes of waiting (slightly high for pizza that's worth eating) our pizza was delivered by a man that I'd never seen before - I'm pretty sure he worked there... The pizza pan appeared to be about a 16"-er from my experience in the pizza business. There was about a 1-1/4" border of pizza pan exposed from the lack of pizza covering the pan. The actual pizza appeared to be about a 14" pizza. It was paper thin, soft, and soggy near the middle. There were hundreds of dark brown specks under the pizza as though the pizza oven had not been cleaned out recently. The basil was decent, and there were only 12 slices of tomato on it. Cheese coverage was moderate to sparse. There was plenty of open space in crust country. The pizza cost $26.30, and I had to order marinara sauce to dip the crust (the cigarette butt of the pizza) into because I would have starved, to death, had I not ate it. :-/ My first date felt so bad about the lack of value that we had just consumed that she could not live with herself without insisting to pay for half of the pizza herself. Not my normal modus operandi for a first date mind you. I hate to feel like a cheapskate who cannot provide for a family, but this pizza was made for someone with a mortgage - not me. I would avoid ordering any pizza from Mcmenamins again, unless you really want to show off your wealth on a first date. :) read more

We stopped here when we were in Mcminnville. We spotted the diner with the line out the door and thought we want to try that but not today. We went in to McMenamins and were seated instantly. The service was brisk but the server admitted to us that he didn't know the menu well as he normally worked nights and was a bartender but we managed just fine and the breakfast was standard McMenamins fare. Chilly in this place. I kept my coat on the entire time. I'm anxious to check out the roof top bar and see what that's all about for the next time. Maybe I'll save that until summer. Indecisive types that have no idea where they want to sit are going to have a hard time here. There are three bars that are part of the old hotel. You can chill in the cellar, the lobby restaurant, or the rooftop bar. Up to the roof we go. After scoping out the many different areas up top, we find a nice table with sun and a great view of the Oregon wine country. Beers first. The copper for me and the summertime brew for Kris. The Hotel Oregon is quite popular and the rooftop was the place to be on this sunny day. It was packed and there always seemed to be people hanging around like vultures to pounce on vacated seating. This led to lackluster service. We waited a long time for beers, then again for the waters he forgot. Food was average at best, and they screwed up every request we had. My wife struggled with an overly cheesy veggie pizza and garden salad. The wings and rueben I had were ok. Good kick to the wingy which would have been better with the blue cheese I never got. We were starving from a long drive and ordered a bunch of food that all came at once. No worries, as we are good eaters. But, we probably would have liked it warm. Things were inexpensive. McMenamins food has really improved in recent years but how long do you want to wait to be served? On two admittedly busy times recently it was like they didn't think any customers would come, and we waited over 45 minutes. Our server, Noelle, was wonderful both visits and she really hustles, so I assume the delay is in the kitchen. I should have read the reviews. We were going to eat at a different place closer to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, but there was a 25 minute wait, so we decided to drive into McMinnville to McMenamin's. I have been to others in Seattle area, so fugured it would be a safe bet. What a disappointment! They seated us quickly, but from that point on service got slow. By the time they came by to get our drink orders 10 or so minutes later, we were ready to also order food. We ordered the hummus app because the pita was the only thing my young son was inerested in eating. No delay getting drinks, but food took almost an hour. The hummus and pita came with the rest of the food, not earlier as an appetizer. Pita was cold, pork medallions were over cooked and burgers were mediocre. Red ale was good and so was brownie sundae (my son's consolation prize for waiting so long for cold pita). Not worth the wait. read more

Whether you sit up on the roof or down in the restaurant you can expect very good food and a great atmosphere. It's an extremely popular destination so wait times can be very long depending on when you get there. Time it well and it's a great experience. The food here is fantastic! For some reason I didn't use to think much of their food but a friend turned me onto them recently and we are hooked. We really enjoy their burgers with their plentiful, high quality toppings, complimented with a side of Cajun tots of course! We also enjoy the pretzel sticks and beer cheese dip... they're a must!! Tasty breakfast at this northwest chain located in the Hotel Oregon in heart of downtown McMinnville. We sat at a dog friendly table with heat lamp in tented area set up in front of hotel for safe dining during time of COVID-19. All our choices were perfectively cooked and attractively presented. Our only minor complaints, the cappuccino was not prepared dry as requested and pacing was a little slow. We would return for breakfast any time. read more

Thought an end of the night munchies run would be easy for cajun tots and spinach artichoke dip. Upon getting our food the tots were perfect as usual but my wife opened the spinach dip and it was hard and dry and had some ridiculous heat going on. We dont know what it is, but it caused a burn on the roof of my wife's mouth to the point she can't chew on that side of her mouth. We've contacted the offices and put in a complaint. Normally we have a great time here, but physical pain is never something we expected. read more

We eventually enjoyed our food and drink here at McMenamins, but it was a bumpy ride. Our first server was nice and helped us decide on draughts to sample. So we samples and ordered. My darling had their Terminator Stout, and I ordered a flight my way. His was delivered in a few minutes, and a little while later he saw me frown and turned around. Another server was putting together my flight, and she gripped each glass fully around the rim, bending her head over them low as she set them into place on the specially marked tasting tray. I asked our server if she could bring straws for each glass, and my darling told her what we'd seen. It took a while, but she pulled them all anew to please us. Our food was excellent. Fish and chips for my love, and a brewer's salad and pretzel sticks for me. We wandered around the hotel afterward and enjoyed the awesome sights. But then I wondered if the waitresses used the same restrooms as the guests, because there was no toilet paper in one stall, and both hand soap dispensers were totally empty. I told the first staff member I saw, who just happened to me the rim holder...why me? LOL read more

I love this McMenamins! We visit McMinnville about twice a year and we never miss a chance to come here. The primary draw for me is the atmosphere and location. Its fun to wonder around the building and check out the different venues like the main bar, the basement bar, the rooftop bar and the hotel floors. If you do the passport then there's a scavenger hunt challenge in the hotel needed to get the reward for this location that helps to discover the uniqueness of this location. It is very endearing. I also like McMenamin's beer selection, which is similar at all locations. The food is usually good and dependable, but not quite outstanding, but frankly its not the food that keeps us coming back. My wife loves the veggie burger and has said many times its the best she's had. For me, the words "veggie" and "burger" should never be used together so I'll have to take her word for that. :) I've had really good steaks here, but the availability of steak on the menu seems to change with every visit. The burger (with actual meat) is a good choice most of the time. The service is usually attentive. I can't remember a visit to McMenamin's in the last 10 years or so with standout service (either good or bad), which is generally a good thing. We'll continue to return with every visit to McMinnville! read more

First time last time!! Was not feeling good and took the stairs to the rooftop bar. By the time we got there it was no problem to get a seat. As most available were in the sun we waited for the one in the shade to be cleaned. As that was finally done we took a seat. Not two second later the ignorant oversized baby waiter that had JUST cleaned our table told us we needed to move our table into the sun. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?! He actually did not give two shits. Then I spoke to Bailey, the manager on duty, who gave even LESS of a *%#^. Because we were already here, very tired, and hungry we stayed. The thing about this place is typical of most in the chain, but this was especially bad. Not that busy, and ZERO ^%^#s given about customer service. Get it together McMenamins!! read more

This location is fun and has great views from the rooftop. It was a bit chilly for outside eating in early March so server accommodated is by watching for an indoor table and moving us part way through our meal. Group had BLT's, pizza and salad as well as Brussels sprouts appetizer. All food was good, but almost every order was slightly wrong. BLT's were missing egg & avocado, pizza ordered with olives but no olives delivered. All kitchen issues but server was very helpful and willing to fix any issues. Isn't this place great? In the heart of downtown McMinnville they have a little something for everyone. As you know McMenamins are known for their wacky buildings. So we stop in here almost every time we go to the beach. This day I did both, I headed upstairs first to the rooftop bar. If you can make it back down- that's your drunk test. It's quite a hike to get up there but fun. We were up there for a while and then as we were leaving, we stopped downstairs and had another for the road. I haven't eaten here much, mostly just drank but I love ambiance and getting to over look downtown McMinnville from the roof is priceless! read more

Outdoor seating to accommodate pets ! Lovely little tables and somewhat uncomfortable chairs -- but a great place to watch the town wake up in the morning. Husband ordered Maple Bacon Pancakes which looked phenomenal (and must have tasted that, too, since he practically licked the plate...) and the pancakes turned out to be not only topped with crispy bacon, but filled with it! Must have been the equivalent of 4 or 5 strips of bacon buried in those fluffy flapjacks! Coffee was excellent, hot, and plentiful and even though we were outside, my cup was topped off every time it came close to being tepid or half-gone. I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast -- and though it was flavorful with sausage gravy over the little steak, and a great plateful of fried breakfast potatoes -- the chicken fry was a bit on the dry side. It may just be a different approach to this southern staple that I'm not used to -- but I'll be trying the pancakes next time. And the little dog enjoyed it all. Mother's Day and we ended up at the Roof Top Bar. Last minute since our first choice did not work out due to timing. I had mentioned in my other review we do not come for the food but for the Roof Top and enjoy outside eating on a nice warm day.......and that is what I was telling the family members that have not been here before. They offered a Mother's Day Buffet on the main floor but since we opted for the roof I can not review that portion.. I noticed that the menu had changed for the bar....and for the worse. Very typical bar food items and a few salad. All six of us just could not decide and came to a conclusion that pizza would probably be best for the group. We ordered two larges. I personally do not like BBQ sauce on pizza, but since I was not the only mom, one of the pizzas was the BBQ Chicken. I have to say I enjoyed it. The sauce was lite and not over powering. On the other pizza (Hawaiian) we wanted white sauce but they use Ranch, NOT ! We went with pesto. It was quite greasy with the pesto. They spilled a little to much. When the oil soaks through the pizza box that it is served in.....it's too much. The flavor was good though since they do not use typical Canadian bacon. It was a good tasting smoky ham. Our sever was handing us dishes but had to make another trip due to dirty plates. She didn't notice the silverware when she dropped of 6 sets. Few of those we put over to the side. Dirty ! I was very disappointed in the Roof Top today. The lacking menu and dirty dishes are not acceptable. This place is such a unique establishment! It's both an inn and a bar. We were just stopping by and doing a little exploring of the town when we came here. There are several floors but the bars we stopped by were in the basement and at the very top. We walked all the way up and each floor had a unique, fun, and eclectic style. It was really fun! Their drink menu was diverse and had some fun options. I got the blueberry mojito which was very fresh and tasty. The service was very slow. Having been a server myself, I am very lenient on the service as I know that there can be a lot of outside factors- but just getting a menu took so long that we considered just leaving. Our drinks took a substantial amount of time as well (it wasn't very busy.) overall, the theme/atmosphere are why I'd stop by again! read more

Yikes McMenamins. We have been here for almost 30 minutes and I still have no water. Almost 15 minutes sat and we had no service and a dirty table. One server was working and 4 standing around doing nothing. When we got here there were all open tables in the dining room except the booths with street view (for the Santa Parade,) and there was no excuse for us not to have service. When the parade ended the dining room was flooded with people. A very large table of people for service immediately as well as waters about 10 minutes before we did (the only reason we got water was because my husband got water for us,) and they got attended to immediately. At 30 minutes here we finally got food..but no drinks. At 40 minutes STILL had no water. To say that I am upset is an understatement. I don't exclusively blame the server. This is clearly a management issue when tables are being ignored and there is staff standing around not doing anything. This is our third year coming specifically for the Santa Parade (and we always come to the pub to eat and drink,) and the first year that the service was absolutely unacceptable. Poor night for y'all McMenamins. And I feel for the server because she wasn't great but she didn't deserve the full blame for this crappy experience. Just had to add that we have waited about 10 minutes just to be able to ASK for our check and finally decided to go get it from the bar since we have no idea where our server is. Booooo McMenamins. Love coming here. Local fun, low key. I've come here several times and each time I've had a heart experience.

Today my husband and I came in for a late lunch. We found seats quickly and our order taken (two lunches and onion rings to share). The onion rings arrived and were tasty. And then we waited and waited and waited and waited. 20 minutes later (after the onion rings came out) the server said she had checked with the kitchen and our order was coming. 15 minutes later another passing server said order was coming. 10 minutes later the waitress said it was almost ready. Then 10 minutes later the server came back and said that there was a problem with the kitchen and our order... We told her we were done and were leaving. They did comp the onion rings and we did leave a tip but I truly do not believe anyone checked with the kitchen. Terrible service and I will not return. read more

We liked the Black Rabbit Red Wine, it had a sweetness to the ending. I tried the Thai rice bowl without protein, and it fell flat! I can't quite describe it but I just kept expecting it to get better and have more taste. It did have a spice but just didn't quite get there in taste. My husband had the special Thai Benito bowl (sp?) It had more taste and the mix of rice and slaw was perfect with the perfectly cooked chicken skewer (skewers can sometimes can be overcooked). My husband and I really enjoy it here. We always have a great night when we come here. The menu is so strait forward. All on one page clearly detailed, so easy. We ventured out of Salem to check out McMinnville, as I had never been there. We stumbled upon the McMenamin's Hotel Oregon location and decided to check it out. We ended up staying for 6 hours! It was so inviting and the bartenders (Jose on The Rooftop Bar and Dan in The Cellar Bar) were friendly and shared their knowledge about the history of this location. We also enjoyed casual conversation with them as well. We grabbed a walking tour packet and wandered through the building and up and down the multiple floors, admiring the fun and unique artwork. We were amazed by the breathtaking view from the rooftop. The Cellar Bar was intimate and romantic, with a couple of cozy nooks. We ordered The Moltisanti Pizza, which was topped with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, bresaola, arugula, and pepperoncinis. Yum!! While we waited for our pizza, the chef brought us samples of bacon wrapped scallops with a garlic sauce and mixed greens, along with a sample of their Pinot Gris. We found this to be an unnecessary, but very welcomed gesture. The scallops and wine were fantastic. We can't wait to go back! read more

It took over 30 minutes to get our food the first time, it was lukewarm, they screwed up my husband's order so we had to send it back (which took so long we ended up just leaving). The bartender who took the order made almost no eye contact and I had to repeat myself several times because he had no idea the wheat beer had a name. On my 1st date with the "Love of my Life", Beth took me here and we went at night when it was dark. She took me to the rooftop where they had inside dining, along with outside dining and we sat outside. It was so ROMANTIC and never has a woman ever done anything like this for me before. This place has great food, great service with a smile and the atmosphere is so COOL! It will always be a good memory. I both love and hate this place. Food looks great, but takes way too long to order and arrive. There is just too many seats in this place. Optional dining and seating on the rooftop, the cellar bar, or the main dining area on street level create too much hassle for staff. They can QUICKLY become inundated with orders as it seems like there are 300% more seats available compared to the workload the number of servers on floor can handle at once. The hotel is creepy, yet amazing. Such rich history and art matches the branding of this company so well that this should be thought of as their headquarters. Great to quietly walk around and look at wall art. Staff really, really, REALLY need ongoing motivational staff meetings. For a tourist trap location, the wait staff need to have continued reminders about positive attitudes. ALL of the 6 or 7 people we saw working had trouble even putting a smile on their face. They looked like they hated their jobs. Very robotic on ordering. Bartenders could not pour a beer. Foam had to be scooped out of pint glasses. The highlight here is the rich history of the building. In that regard, I would recommend sitting downstairs in the dark-lit cellar bar. They'll play music from the 30's on records and immediately will transform you back to a different time period. Roof top bar has a great feel in the evening. It's the tallest building in Mac. You can see the whole down town and 3rd street area from above. Food is typical Mcmenamins food. Black Rabbit wine was $9 per glass. If you haven't been up top and your in Mac it's worth checking out. Can be very busy at times. They have multiple spots to eat and drink on the Hotel property. On a cold or wet day the wine bar would be a good spot to sit and relax. read more
