Terrific addition to downtown Plano. I ordered pub standard fare - a beer and a burger. The burger was great quality meat and prepared just as I ordered: Medium. The fries are thin, fried hard and salted well. Soooo good. They are definitely still working out kinks, but service is attentive and comes with a smile. I just had lunch at McNeal's for the first time and I figured that I would try the Shepard's Pie. This is usually a decent indicator of a pub if they have it on the menu. It was described to have 'creamy mash' which were watery instant potatoes. The ground chuck and lamb base was made with what tasted like 'off the shelf' spaghetti sauce which was sweet and not anything like the traditional gravy you get in a Shepard's Pie. The 'sharp cheddar' cheese tasted as if it was at the end of its life. I enjoy Shepard's Pie. I like to make it at home, but it is a lot of effort, so I treat myself when I go out. Just because you have lamb, potatoes, peas & carrots in a dish, does not mean it is a Shepard's Pie. The service was good, and I am sure it would be a fun place to go for a drink after work, but I will not be going back for the food. read more

New favorite in Downtown Plano!! First time in, Tom took great care of us and our friends! Handmade margarita was spot on, and they have the hubby's favorite Lone Star. He ordered the Brat Bomb and some fries, huge and delicious sandwich!! Fries were crisp too. I got the Bangers and Mash, enough food to feed a small army! It was fantastic!! Our friends got the McNeal's Classic Burger - it was cooked to perfection and sooooo good!! We came back the following Friday for Fish and Chips, also great! Our buddy got the Steak Bomb and fries and really enjoyed it. They are working on a late night menu as well. This is a super friendly place, with quality food. We'll be back!!! read more

A great place to go on a wonderful summer evening...wow, backup....its the middle of February but it feels like June outside this evening! We sat inside, just so we could see our food but they brought this cool little battery operated light to the table that really gave off some good light. We both ordered the fish and chips with a roumalade sauce (rather than an average tartar sauce). We got two large pieces of fish and quite a few fries. The fries were the skinny kind I just love. The fries were already salted just right and they provided catsup with the basket although not everyone would probably want it. My big gripe these days is being served a straw in/or with my beverage when I didn't ask for one. At least if it isn't in my beverage I just don't have to use it but I don't think the places put it back in stock, I think it ends up with the garbage from the table. Ask Me If I Want A Straw!!! It not only makes me happy but saves the establishment $ and helps the environment. I'm not pushing paper straws either as I've heard they have some kind of problem also. Just ask, it's like asking if I want lemon slices for my water or coffee before you pour me a cup. read more

Not sure where all of the 4 and 5 star reviews of McNeal's come from but our experience does not even come close to those reviews. We stopped in on a Saturday evening and while the service was ok, the food was gross at best. We ordered the Poutine as an appetizer. The french fries were luke warm, the short rib on top was cold, and the cheese had a texture like it was melted an hour prior and then sat out on the counter. The Sheppards Pie was more like a sloppy joe with instant potatoes on top, and the carrots in the mixture were undercooked. My stomach is a just recovering 12 hours later. The band playing Celtic music had good intentions but were maybe one step up from karaoke. While the atmosphere was nice and we're glad to see downtown Plano continue to build its downtown scene, we won't be back to McNeal's. read more

Worst service I've ever received. We walked in and the bartender was immediately rude when my friend's husband asked about where to sit. We went ahead and sat down, two seconds later he walked over before we even looked at the menu. Friend started to ask about beers and he barked at us about not having a beer menu then he said "I'm the only here, make it quick." So we did and left. My Husband's exact words, "we're gonna make this real quick" he put the menu down and we left. So rude and we will never go back. I understand if you are short handed but there's no reason to treat customers coming in for the first time like that or any customer like that! read more

I went for three comedy nights in a row to McNeals. The shows themselves were AMAZING and the atmosphere was great, but during the shows the service was terrible. The waitstaff didn't even check on our tables most of the time and the drinks were watery once they finally got to us. We then ordered our food which was severely overpriced and I ordered the chicken sliders and they were so bad. Dry and in general uninteresting. Not worth the money at all. I would not go to this establishment if not for the comedy nights and if you do go just don't order anything from them and just go for the comedy night atmospheres and the amazing comedy. read more

Came back for a second time after seeing positive reviews but this turned out to be my last visit. The food was fine, but nothing special. The bigger problem was the horrible service we received. We waited for 10 minutes before anyone came over to greet us (we finally sat ourselves after standing at the door for awhile without being helped). When they did finally arrive, it was to tell us someone else would be over to help us. Up walks a guy who appeared to be so drunk he could hardly function. It took him 10 minutes to get waters for our table of 4. When I asked what beers they had on tap, he said 'all the normal local ones you would expect.' Odd response for a bar. I ordered sodas for my 2 kids and had to ask for them 3 times and got them about 20 minutes later (and I'm not exaggerating). He would randomly try to bring us things we had not ordered and then wondered around asking other tables if it was what they ordered. You could tell other tables were looking around wondering what was going on. Originally intended to stay and watch the Mavs game but left after dinner and 1 drink. No point in going back as there are way too many other options. It was pretty telling that half the restaurant was empty at 7:00-8:30 on a Saturday night. read more

Last night I stood at that famous front door at McNeal's, there is an epic story behind it, wanted to check the Cowboys football score; now I wish I hadn't was a horrible loss. I looked in and saw Tom holding court back in the end of the bar and a bunch of my friends from 1418 coffee. That BOY looks like Marshall Matt Dillion standing at the bar. So asked Brandi that I wanted to buy a round for all my MCDXVIII buds, AND THE PARTY BEGAN. I love the ambiance in McNeal's, for a place east of the railroad tracks in East Plano it is the best. I did not eat last night but have eaten there many times, the food is pure artistic and the menu so vast and excellent, Lordy I gain weight just walking past the place. I love chatting up Miss Brandi, I will tell ya there are 10s that live in Plano. She plays my favorite music and even lets me sneak in my fav. The EDMOND FITZGERALD. I met Tom at a City of Plano Council meeting several months ago. The City of Plano had him spread eagle on a red ant hill for a "historical violation", on the front door, think Plano wanted the blanket put back up. The law states that anything over 50 years old needs to be protected. The council vote looked grim, until this very tall man that looks like a young Abe Lincoln spoke for 30 minutes without notes, and that was my first meeting with Tom. The man is gifted and should run for governor think the final vote was 8-0, they were all in and the DOOR STAYs. My boxer pup Collin McKinney and I wish all the folks at McNeal's a MERRY CHRISTMAS. Hard to decide on what to eat, the menu has so many choices. Finally decided on the eggrolls and wedge salad. Great! Margaret, the bartender/waitress, is very friendly. She introduces herself while looking at you and she's always checking to make sure you have everything you need. Definitely on my list to come back. read more
