I had the peppa chicken and steak combo with green salad and brown rice for $16. The chicken was amazing but the steak was nothing exceptional, it was grilled but did not have a robust flavor. We live about 5 miles away and are so stoked that we now have MC's as an option for both breakfast and dinner. My wife is a vegetarian so this place is a bit of a godsend for her, I'm an "omnivore" and I like pretty much everything on the menu. We both love the Veggie Trio appetizer, and the chiffon pies and cobblers are as good as I've ever had anywhere. Did I mention the staff? Young and friendly and welcoming. We always get excited whenever we drive by and see lots of cars out front as we REALLY hope this place stays in business for many years. I always order the shrimp scampi. The shrimp sauce mix with the white sauce makes a good pasta sauce. We started with takeout here but it definitely tastes better eating in. The chiffon cheesecake is so light and yummy. My husband and I love the french fries here, random I know. But who doesn't love some good French fries? My husband loves the steak here. Unexpected gem in Hanapepe, on the road to or from Waimea, run by three awesome ladies and their great staff. Menu offerings featured variety with the perfect balance of healthy and a little sinful! We were confused by the reviews of MCS Grill on Yelp, because most people made it seem as if there were mostly vegetarian options here, which is not the case. As vegans, my husband and I were hungry for a light lunch after visiting Waimea Canyon. We ended up in Hanapepe and a very kind local business owner recommended MCS Grill to us. This might be a good place for lacto-ovo vegetarians, but their vegan options were very limited. I will say that the waitress knew right away which menu item could be veganized. I say "item" because there was only one - the Thai Salad with Tofu. We decided to split it and we did enjoy the meal. The tofu was well-cooked and the dressing was tasty. I would say they earned 4 stars, because the staff was very friendly and helpful, and I appreciate their effort to provide vegetarian options. However, I wish that more of them, like one of the "plates" (of which all options were meat-based and not even lacto-ovo friendly) or the veggie burger, was also vegan friendly. When the veg options are also vegan, then all people who eat a veg diet can enjoy them, and not just those who still eat eggs and dairy. read more

We came in with very high expectations from the Yelp reviews, but were very, very disappointed by the food. Service was wonderful though, so there's that. We got the MCS grill (w/ Hawaiian peppa chicken) and loco moco, both of which were underwhelming and unimpressive (my boyfriend & I live in Oahu, and this was sadly nowhere near the best we've had). They're very reasonably priced for their portions, though, so if you'd like a bang for your buck and are in the area you can maybe consider this place. read more

Very disappointing. It took 7 minutes for us to be acknowledged to be seated. 10 minutes before our order was taken. And 31 minutes for our food to be served. Even though the waitress was very pleasant, wait times were unacceptable. I ordered the prime rib special and my wife a salad. The prime rib looked as though it was the last piece in the place. Cut unevenly and very small. I have had pancakes thicker than that. read more

Don't be fooled by the casual set up as you enter the restaurant. I ate the shrimp scampi dinner and it was probably in my top 25 best plates I've ever eaten. I ordered takeout on my way home from work, I'm happy they made the burger for me although it wasn't on the dinner menu. Service on the phone and at the counter is very good. I had the mushroom and swiss burger with teriyaki sauce. Teri sauce was thin and not that great. I think the burger was pretty good, but not $12 great. This was our first time to this restaurant and our return to Kauai after so many years. MCS is a must when you come to this beautiful island. Great food, great service, great prices. I ate the Thai salad....they knocked it out of the park. Also love the vegetarian choices. A menu of delicious food that fits most if not all. I ordered the fish and chips. When I received my meal, the fish was so soggy and greasy that I took one bite and could not eat anymore of it. The fries were unfortunately inedible as well. went there again with my wife for the food there on our last day on the island. Excellent family style food and services. The foods are kind of like a combination of Asian and American cuisine, but they are different. The only thing I can say is the foods are delightful. A must try is their ox tail soup which is served only on Monday. read more
