I've been here three or four times over the last 12 years Q(maaaybe more, but the place isn't positively memorable.) After my last visit several (4?) years ago, I swore I'd NEVER return. AND there I was, sitting in the bar, because my friend was starving and had to use the ladies room. So, to do the right thing, we ordered food. We both had soup and it was a REALLY LONG visit for just soup. My friend believes it's because we weren't locals. I think it's because we didn't order alcohol. Maybe it was a combination of both. BUT, the chowder was gluten free and delicious (even if it did have too much potato!) My friend thinks the french onion soup was the best she'd ever had... but she's not sure. It could be because she was ravenous. The decor was fun, the service very slow, but friendly enough, not great ... the (4) people next to us were unhappy about something (including wait) and the manager was involved. Went with a large group of friends for lunch. I enjoyed Fish Tacos and did not enjoy the coffee others in our group were very pleased with the NE calm Chowder which was thick creamy and delicious on the Negative side was the mens room which needed attention and displayed a very nasty fly tape hanging in the center of the room disgusting! Went here on a work trip last September! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was beautiful! We are on the upstairs deck overlooking the harbor. I had the ahi tuna sliders, and they were very good but wish there was more that came with them (I.e. fries or something)! Will certainly be back next trip! read more

Stopped in for a late lunch and they had a wonderful menu. I love having a Rachel Haddock sandwich with the fresh homemade coleslaw and. Thousand island dressing and a side of tarter sauce. The sandwich was perfect and paired with kettle chips. Nice atmosphere and pleasant people at the bar with me and even some from my home state of GA. Small world to find them in Boothbay Harbor. The bartender kept the conversation going around the whole bar with everyone which made it feel like a family gathered eating which was very nice. Stay away... 100% overpriced tourist trap, as you might expect for the location, but sadly the food isn't even decent. My husband's burger was full of hard pieces (gristle?) so he couldn't finish it. When the waitress took my husband's plate away, a dead smushed bug was left behind on the table meaning it was on the bottom of his plate the whole time. We went to McSeagull's before visiting the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens for Gardens Aglow in late December. We made reservations a few days before, since there were six of us. We were told that there would be a lot of large parties, but they would put us on the list for 4PM. When we arrived there were two large tables with a reservation sign on them, one with six seats. We were told to wait. We waited for the hostess. She couldn't find the list. I told her our name and that we had reservations for six of us at 4, and the table was right there. She said to wait. Two other people told us to wait, while we waited. Finally someone again asked our name, and how many people. We said again that there were six of us with a reservation for 4PM, and that our table was likely the one in front of us. She said just go ahead and sit down. The place was not crowded, and there were plenty of places to sit. We sat at the reserved table. And waited. Our server took about five minutes to get to us, to tell us she'd be right with us, then another five minutes or so before getting to us to take our order. Long story short, it was quite some time before we were able to put in our order, though the restaurant was not busy. Twice as the server was about to take our order, someone from the table across from us would ask for something and she would serve them first, instead of asking them to wait until she could get our meals started. Her serving style was not very efficient. After our order, we were told (not all at once, but piecemeal) that they were out of mussels, then salmon, then half-racks of ribs. This was 4 PM on a Sunday afternoon. I found it curious that a seafood restaurant was out of its signature dishes. We changed our order and waited. We ordered nachos and fried cheese sticks as an appetizer, since there were no mussels. The cheese sticks weren't very hot. We were obviously served the nachos on the same foil-covered pan in which they were heated. The cheese was stuck to the foil, and it was very difficult to eat (see the photos), and there was a lot of waste. Once our order arrived, we found the food to be okay, not spectacular, not terrible, just mediocre. Our server forgot the drinks numerous times, forgot various parts of the meal, and seemed to just forget us for long stretches at a time. She seemed overwhelmed (or bored, or indifferent, or just sick of the place) even though she was only serving a few tables. I've been to McSeagull's a few times, and have had mixed experiences. Keep your expectations somewhat low and you won't be disappointed! read more

The establishment looked interesting on the web since we were visiting a Christmas celebration event and I have to say the products are not great. The French Onion Soup was undercooked and The cheese was undercooked - which is the main flavor of the soup. The service in getting your main course was very slow. Also trying to get utensils and napkins is something to remind them that customers need. Sad when the establishment is at 30% capacity. The main course of seafood extravaganza was terrible. I have been many times this summer and they never disappoint. Blackened haddock tacos are absolutely fantastic as are the espresso martinis and rum punch. Love the outside bar and all the wonderful ladies that have waited on me and the views of the harbor can't be beat! It's a great atmosphere and the service is always top notch!! We stopped in during our annual trip to Boothbay for the 4th of July with the entire family, including our 2 year old and loved every moment. We've been coming to town for years and this restaurant has improved drastically under new ownership/chef/management. It is by far, the best food in Boothbay - so fresh. The service was also impeccable, fast, extremely attentive, polite and didn't miss a beat. We love their expanded menu choices so much so that we ate there 3 times during our long weekend visit! During my visit, I had a lovely bartender named Nicole who created tasty cocktails for us, some not even on the menu, now that's great service! Bears moose and salmon McSeagull's is a cool restaurant that has a really cool name. Located right on the water it has nice views of Boothbay harbor from the outside deck. The restaurant is a lot larger than it looks from the outside and has a huge bar area, some inside sitting and a large patio where you can sit outside and watch the water and boats. The interior is about what you expect from a place like this. Lots of cute nautical things and pleasantly tacky little signs with humorous expressions. One side room has a stuff bear and some moose. I asked the waitress where they came from but she didn't know. The food is pretty good and the menu large and varied. The usually Maine seafood stuff with lots of different types of lobsters and some other things for people that don't like seafood. The server was excellent and had a bouncy kind of energy that had her seemingly in two of three places at once. Pleasant and attention but not intrusive. The prices are pretty much what you should expect in a place like Boothbay Harbor. Unfortunately seafood is no long the bargain that it once was up here and you won't find any real inexpensive seafood unless you go down to the docks and get it right off the boats. McSeagull's is pleasant restaurant with good food, a huge menu and great views of the water. A nice place to spend some time and money while in Boothbay. read more

This is either good (something for everyone!) or bad (no clear focus/specialty - mediocrity overall). McSeagulls trots safely down the middle. They do a broad spectrum of food decently. Yes, your whole party will find something to suit their tastes. No, no one will be having food-orgasms. Our waitress was a touch frazzled. I'm not sure if this was her first summer at McSeagulls, but she was completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of people on the patio and made this very well known to her guests. Repeatedly. Honey, it's July in a tourist town. Stop. Breathe. Chillax. Come here to eat outside - despite our waitresses protestations, the patio is quite nice. Don't listen to the negative reviewers - this place is awesome! McSeagull's is a fresh-from-the-water sort of seafood joint, but not an especially fancy one. A lot of the seafood is fried, and the food is generally served with fries and slaw - meaning this is definitely more of a casual place than formal dining. Of course, for what it's worth, this joint does casual well, and it's a breath of fresh air for the area. We dined in the upstairs and enjoyed it quite a bit, though we honestly thought we heard a goat or something. Must have been a fluke. The outside deck looked particularly nice, and I imagine it'd be quite nice when the weather is good. The food is quite good for what it is, and I have no complaints. I had the flame grilled Catch of the Day, which was awesome. The service was also good. This was my first time in Boothbay and it's beautiful. We had a hard time deciding where to go to eat, the 3 restaurants near us were all highly rated. We ended at McSeagulls and got the haddock fish and chips, clam chowder, and the shrimp cocktail. First- the shrimp came with the shells and little legs (shocker for me!) but they were delicious. I came here for the second time. I'd been here on our previous trip to Maine. The dinner was wonderful this year! I enjoyed it so much! We had fried calamari appetizer and it came with three great dipping sauce. My clam chowder was some of the best I've had in Maine. I LOVED my teriyaki sesame crusted tuna it was delicious! My friend had the salmon with black beans and rice and I took a bite, that too was phenomenal. TIP: ORDER IT RARE FOR THE BEST TASTE. So, Chris the bartender gets big kudos for his drinks and friendly, easy manner. My wife and I (we're in our mid 50's) stopped in on the recommendation of a friend. We are so glad we did! There was an interesting cast of characters at the bar, live music and we enjoyed the food immensely. My wife had a beet salad which she said was large and delicious. She also had the chicken corn chowder which tasted just like her grandma's I had a side of corn on the cob with blackened fish tacos.
