We have been going to McVee's since it opened. We usually go with a group. But as of late, we are very disappointed. The serving sizes have decreased and the prices have significantly increased. $18 for a Greek salad? Sparce ingredients! Ridiculous. I know wholesale prices have increased, but don't alienate the customers you have left. Everything is weak. Hope this won't be another failed business at this location. Atmosphere is open, attractive and roomy in this establishment, and the location is in a shopping center with plenty of parking. The food, however, is nothing special, and is noticeably more expensive than most of the competition. My fish and chips were soggy and the next time I went my hamburger was "OK" but should have been "great" for the price. If you want a good meal I would select a more upscale place with better food for the same price. read more

Went there on a Sunday afternoon. Service was very slow for an empty restaurant. Our table got the appetizer sampler; complete waste of $18. 2 mozzarella sticks, 2 tiny wings, a southwest egg roll cut in half and 2 potato skins. Very unappetizing and really disappointing. My wife and I wanted to get a nice meal. We had been to McVee's once for my birthday in June and everything was great. NOT so on our next visit 9/23. ... One thing we have in June was the spinach artichoke dip. It was served in a hot boat dish with melted cheese. 9/23, it was a standard bowl that with pita bread, it was ok, but not great.. at 13 dollars I would have expected more. I was not impressed the value of this appetizer I wanted fish and chips. my first plate was fish and oil, the waitress Denessa spotted it and took it away, it was not edible. My wife was eating her french dip, while I waited, and waited. After waiting for a replacement meal, the next plate of fish came out, the fish was soggy with the fat it was fried in. The patio is cool because it has a giant fire pit but the food is literal garbage. We went mainly for drinks as finding many places that don't require reservations is difficult during covid but man did we regret it. My group got the appetizer platter (mini tacos, cheese sticks, potato skins, chicken wings and southwest egg rolls), chicken tenders and fries, and then a side order of mozzarella sticks. Everything we ordered was clearly just out of a bag and tossed into the oven, much of it was over cooked but also mushy at the same time? The cheese sticks was an experience ive never had before. When you bit into them the cheese felt literally wet, not the good smooth cheese pull and not even thick like how the cheese gets when it cools, just wet? There was also no flavor. The best thing on the platter was the potato skins which were over cooked but were slightly palatable. Probably made sense why no other table around us ordered food. Feel bad because I've heard good things about the Southfield location but this one wasn't it. I left this place mad at myself that I spent $23. The drink was fine, nothing special. Paid $9 for sangria and $14 for this terrible platter. Still tipped 20% because of the pandemic. Would not return though. read more

Skimpiest drinks in town. Food is marginal and the outside patio needs to be cleaned and maintained. They actually charge you for the ice in your drink. I'd been to this place when was Steelhouse Tavern and service was terrible. I saw name change and figured we should give it another try. And yet again service was miserably slow. We went on a Friday evening patio was full couple tables inside but mostly empty. Hostess seemed rather lost finally sat us in bar area. We waited like 20 minutes before waitress made it over to greet us. Took our drink orders then we thought she went to get them she returned 20 minutes later for our order. We were like where are our drinks ????? So she ran back to bar came back with our drinks. We figured we order something quick since we waited forever already. We order cup of chili & French onion soup. And split a antipasto salad for main course. So like clock work 20 minutes later came out on barely warm soup. French onion cheese was giant gob of cheese barely melted and barely warm . She came back with our salad split for us which was nice ...... but serve and food quality was not worth a return trip !!!! read more

I ordered a Greek salad for $14.99. It was decent but once the bill came it suddenly went up to $19.99!? I advised our server and it took over 10 minutes to resolve the billing error!? Excellent food and service today. This is my 7th time at McVees and it's been great every time.

Last night I had the best time having dinner and sitting at the bar. The bartender Lauren was both attentive and filled with personality. She was both entertaining and knowledgeable both about the food and the drinks. She is a tremendous asset to the restaurant and deserves much kudos!! The food, the drinks, and the atmosphere was a great experience. I would highly recommend their burgers and chicken wings and, of course, their beers! The wife and I had the Big Mouth burger last Saturday and it was so good! Cooked exactly how we wanted and was hot when we got it home. So I stopped and got 2 more yesterday. Great taste and it hit the spot after a long day at work. They were only open for 2 weeks and a day when they had to close down inside seating. Go place an order and keep them running! read more

Today we held a family celebration @ McVee's Pub and Grub in Troy. We reserved the outdoor covered patio. The service of staff and management are 1st class. All our needs were met beyond expectations. The patio was great for social distancing and allowed us to celebrate safely. The food and drink menu has a wide variety of options. McVee's seems to be the only restaurant open in the area, so as expected they were completely filled to their new Covid capacity while being understaffed. My siblings and I took my mother here for her birthday and had a reservation at 8 but there were so much people waiting to be seated that we were going to have to wait an unspecified amount of time to be seated regardless of our reservation. Thankfully, a man (Who I believe was the manager) came and spoke with us and he was very kind and understanding to our situation and frustration and found a way to accommodate my family within seconds of asking. Throughout the night we received great service from the servers and ESPECIALLY the small sweet middle aged lady who was busing our table (my family loved her). The food was as expected for bar food, nothing spectacular But overall Not many complaints. At the end of the night the manager brought out a huge slice of carrot cake (which was amazing) and an equally big slice of cheesecake with a sparkler candle to celebrate my Mom's birthday. Being that they were so busy yet provided us such great service was impressive, and when we went long stretches of waiting for service it was buffered by an apology from either the manager, our server, or the bus lady (even though being busy and understaffed is not their fault). Overall they turned what could have been a disappointing and frustrating night into a great experience and a memorable evening. read more
