Ate at McVee's a a few weekends ago for the first time. Stopped in for lunch with my wife. Was not very busy. We sat outside in the patio. The weather was nice. They had two tv's going. The waitress was rather slow to come greet us for drinks and then to take our food order. Perhaps she forgot about us. However, once she took our food order the service was quick. We both got the Build Your Own Burger with Waffle Fries. Both were excellent. Very good and filling. When paying, the waitress accidentally charged us the wrong bill. The credit card machine wouldn't allow her to void the incorrect transaction. She was apologetic and said if we ended up getting over charged to contact them. The Owner was there and he also apologized. Was over charged but the owner made it right the next day. Overall, I really enjoyed the food. Would have given 5 stars but the experience wasn't perfect due to the slow service in the beginning and the billing mistake (that was corrected the following day). read more

This was our 1st time here and were a little leery with the lower rating we saw online. Upon entering, there was only 1 person at the bar. We were happy that it wasn't too busy as we could linger longer with our family for Sunday brunch. We all felt Marissa (sorry if I got her name wrong) was attentive and had an upbeat attitude. Found this place while trying to find a restaurant with heated outside dining. Being familiar with the McVee's in Southfield I was surprised that they had opened this location. They opened in February 2020 a little before COVID shut everything down and I think that is why people might not be aware of it. I'm happy that I found it because the service was excellent and our food was really good also...can't forget the drinks yummy!! They are practicing social distance and following our state guidelines so there was only a sprinkle of people seated. I didn't get a chance to check-in or snap many pictures because I had left my phone at home and had to use my husband's phone UGH!! Have gone several times with family for easy-going family suppers. I have had the fish and chips, the hamburger, special, and a chicken salad. All were well done, cooked well, and tasted great. Waitstaff has always been kind patient and accommodating especially with kids. The real stand out at McVee's is the hand, onion rings, and french fries. You can even sit at tables next to the fire pit. Has kids' menu for families. A wide variety of choices that even my picky ex husband could find something. My sirloin tips was a miss. Tried them to taste their zip sauce, but wasn't impressed. The French onion soup was delicious and on my top 10 list. Others choices were enjoyed and the club sandwich was huge. The three of us eating all had the burgers and all were cooked perfectly to our specifications; silence descended on the table as we mowed through this burgers! I had the waffle fries which were crispy and delicious, and my husband had upgraded to the onion rings, which were also good. My husband and i also split a side salad which was nothing sexy. Only reasons I took a star off: music in the bar side is too loud so it was really hard to hear each other; service was meh; my friend ordered a cocktail and wasn't asked what kind of alcohol she wanted and bartender used cheapest kind and my pal said she could tell. Very mediocre at best. Ordered potato skins as an app and French dip sandwich and patti melt sandwich as entrees . Potato skins were served, three looked ok one was burnt. The problem was we had no time to enjoy them as by the time the small plates arrived to eat them our entrees were out. This is poor communication with wait staff and kitchen. There is no point in ordering an app if the entree is served right on top of it. The meat on my French dip was cold. Seems like it should have been placed under heat to heat the meat and toast the bun as both were cold. It is odd that there was no cheese in the French dip as well. Fries were at best warm. The only thing hot was the au jus. Pattie melt was not cooked properly and the bread was not toasted on both sides. We sat by the service door and every time they opened it it was freezing. Ordered drinks those were standard. If the owners and manager are interested in constructive feedback, in my humble opinion, I encourage them to improve their value proposition and attentiveness guest's feedback. My guest and I each had a dinner salad. Cost of $18 each. The salad's proportion, very minimal content of chicken and other value added accoutrements was lacking and disappointing. I haven't seen anyone from the restaurant respond to Yelper's comments. Our experience also leads me to be curious, is there an on-site manager who understands the importance of good food preparation and seeks to continuously provide quality and value? Dined @ McVee's after my daughter's soccer tournament with teammates; we were greeted warmly and given a large table to accommodate our group and enjoy watching the Olympics on the large screen TV above our table. The burgers, salads, and steak that our group ordered were all delicious. The burgers were large & juicy and the fries were hot & crispy. Our Michigan chicken salads were delish with a yummy homemade raspberry vinaigrette that we enjoyed so much we wanted to take some home with us. The friendly service made us feel right at home! We were both hungry and wanted to grab a late lunch so we headed over to Mcvees. I have been here once before when it was a different place, and I was excited to see a new restaurant in it's place. Walking up I was impressed by the large, spacious patio area for eating/drinking and a very cool firepit table to accommodate a large group. It was decorated very nice and I was excited to see the inside. It was rather warm out and he preferred to sit inside so we sat at the bar. It wasn't busy on a Wednesday afternoon so we were able to easily find seats. We always inquire about Happy Hour specials, normally places offer specials around 4pm but they only had a dollar off drinks nothing for food. We ended up splitting a grilled chicken dinner, veggies and mushroom soup. The chicken was a bit dry, veggies were simply veggies, but the mushroom soup was quite good. He was happy because the size of the mushrooms were HUGE! You could tell that the soup was made fresh. If I could offer any suggestion to this newer establishment, revisit your menu prices. Honestly, things do not make sense! The price of the salads are ridiculous compared to full entrees. The price of some appetizers were comparable to full entrees. I was very confused by the pricing of items on the menu. Our experience was okay, not sure I would make a trip back! My friends and I had really high hopes for this place but we did not get the results we expected. We were seated and waited a long time for the waitress to come back and ask for our order. It was dead and slow so this made no sense. The burgers came out charred to an absolute crisp. That was not the worst part, however. My burger came with the wrong toppings and the waitress offered to have them removed for me. I declined, as I am capable of doing that "fix" myself. My friends burger also came out charred. I was charged extra for waffle fries and was not informed it was an up charge. I paid $7 for a Norms IPA which is ridiculous, and the wrap it up at the end we waited 15 minutes for our cards to come back and then we were charged for the wrong things so we had to wait even longer. How is any of this possible? If you're wondering why this isn't a 1 star review, it's because one of our friends ordered the steak bites and they were phenomenal. Absolutely the best thing I've had in a long time and I must had 1 piece and dipped bread into the sauce of the gods. Conclusion: order the steak bites or just don't even bother coming here. I love this place cause of the people who work there. Its sad that the place could never had formal opening cause of this covid sitch. The food is great and staff is always flexible for substitutions. One thing i wish is they get more beer taps, but still fair collection of all different kinds of beers. And also some good bourbons and scotch. Servers and bartenders are all very friendly and nice. Lauren at the bar is really amazing and always goes above and beyond to make sure customers walk out happy. How we found this place was a chance encounter. A group of 14 people looking for a place to catch up on a Sunday evening. I found availability at McVees and reserved it right away. Did not expect a place to be this chic in a strip mall. But it is! Outdoor dining options are available. All our orders (service to 14 people is no mean feat!) were well served. This evening some friends and I decided to check this place out. I believe this place has changed owners 3 times for sure the name has been changed 3 times in the past 15 years. It's located in a strip mall off Rochester Road and kinda a hidden gem! Masks must be worn to enter and there was a hand sanitizer station at the entry (second) door. We were greeted by a friendly staff member and seated in the dining area. The decor hasn't changed and has a very cozy feeling with plenty of flat screen TVs all around. The bar area was a little busy with guests but there was social distancing taking place. The menus are paper and the selection of entrees range from burgers to sandwiches, seafood, lamb chops, steaks and pastas. Our server was prompt to our table to take beverage orders. She was very nice. They have a full bar menu with speciality drinks along with a wine and beer menu. My friend ordered a Black and Tan but unfortunately never received it. After asking several times we were finally told the Guinness tap had something wrong with it (bummers). We ordered an appetizer Southwest egg rolls and they were baked not fried which was yummy served with salsa and sour cream. Entrees a French dip which came with steak fries. You can upgrade to sweet potato fries, waffle fries, tots for close to $3.00 (a little pricy for potatoes I think). Mcvees jambalaya with fettuccine was served with a dinner salad or choice of soup and bread and was not to spicy. Marinated chicken breasts came with 2 chicken breasts (a bit rubbery) and seasoned lightly with choice of soup or salad and choice of potato. The salad was my favorite because I love fresh vegetables the Romain lettuce was very green and crisp and topped with cherry tomatoes, red onions and cucumbers For dessert we ordered tiramisu which was a large slice with chocolate sauce it was the perfect size for the 3 of us to share. Overall the food was good not great but considering everything thats going and low number count of guests dining out during these times I'm happy to support local businesses.
