This is a long overdue review. Meaganne did my hair/makeup for both my engagement shots and my wedding a few years back. She did an amazing job. I loved her philosophy - which is to make her clients look like the best version of themselves, as opposed to caking on makeup in a way a bride would probably regret - and thought she executed it perfectly. I felt beautiful on my wedding day, and thought my makeup looked 100 in the wedding photos. Equally important, she made me feel totally at ease both times we worked together, was very open to feedback, and was just plain fun to hang out with. For brides who aren't getting married in SF proper, Meaganne is willing to travel, which was super helpful. My wedding was in Los Gatos, and Meaganne didn't bat an eye making the hour+ drive, and navigating her way to our off-the-beaten-path venue. I think she may charge a small fee if she needs to travel more than a certain number of miles, but it was nominal and on par with what other makeup artists charge. Meaganne is an absolute doll! She did my hair and makeup for me, my bridesmaids, and my mom for my September wedding in Calistoga. I had trial sessions with a couple other professionals in San Francisco, but once I met with Meaganne, I was hooked. I'm pretty picky about makeup - I don't wear foundation and HATE the feeling of having something caked on. But Meaganne knew exactly what to do to make me feel natural, confident, and ready to get married! She makes you feel and look like yourself and not some made up version of a typical bride. Meaganne did a fantastic job with my hair and makeup at my wedding. She executed my hair and makeup "vision" perfectly and I've never felt more beautiful. I am so happy that I found Meaganne! She is exactly what I was looking for in a wedding hair and make-up artist. First of all, let me say that there are a lot of people out there that tout themselves as hair AND make-up artists, but it is very rare that one person is actually good at doing both. Meaganne truly is. I have been fortunate enough to work with Meaganne 4 times over the last several months, starting with a trial for my wedding hair and make-up, through a couple of photo shoots and ending with my actual wedding day hair and makeup. Each time she was through with me I couldn't believe how flawless she made me look. I still looked like myself, which was very important to me, just a hotter and more beautiful version. I'd gone through a few disappointing experiences with other hair and make-up artists whose work looked amazing in their online portfolio, but when I tried them out they made me look like a painted poodle, no joke! And trying out a good hair and make-up artist isn't cheap, it can run around $200 - $250. That's why when Meaganne finished our first trial session, and I got a look in the mirror at what she'd done, I handed her a check to reserve my wedding date right away. She is super easy to work with, a very charming and mellow person and very willing to work with me in terms of scheduling (and rescheduling!) various appointments. She was always where she said she would be when she said she would be, which is critical. Paying her was also very convenient since she accepts Paypal in addition to personal checks. Her work, as I've mentioned is amazing. She uses very high quality products which are very long lasting. For my engagement photo shoot she did my make up at 10am and it still looked perfect when we started shooting at 5:30pm (no touch-ups.) My wedding day make-up, which she did early in the morning, lasted throughout the night. And I don't know how she did it, but she always made my hair look soft and beautiful, not hair sprayed to death. Bottom line, she made me feel absolutely stunning. Meaganne is the most brilliant make up artist - when I was looking for a makeup artist for my wedding I was having a really hard time finding someone who didn't look like they would give me giant crunchy ringlets and that overly made up typical bride makeup. I deliberately searched out someone who did beautiful commercial makeup rather than mostly bridal. Meaganne does the most gorgeous natural looking make up - she made me as well as all of my bridesmaids glow. Every one looked dewy and gorgeous! This was my first time going to a professional make-up artist so I was a little nervous, but Meaganne quickly put me at ease and created a perfect, natural, "smoky eyes" look which was perfect for some headshots I was getting done. This woman essentially sent me into cardiac arrest. After I had already set up a trial date with her, she gave me the impression that there was no rush to put a deposit down on my wedding date, and that if anyone wanted my date she'd let me know ASAP, as all vendors do out of courtesy. My videographer, my photographer, my florist...all of them let me know if someone was interested in my date, and CALLED to tell me. Not only did they call and tell me, but because I had contacted them FIRST, they honored this, and let me decide then and there if I wanted to put down a deposit. This is pretty standard behavior--what you would expect of any professional. Therefore, I also expected this of Meaganne. Clearly...my mistake. Instead of calling or emailing me, Meaganne didn't even mention that she GAVE my spot away. It took me emailing her to "check in" to find out 10 days later. What if I hadn't emailed her? Her excuse to me was, "The truth is that I receive dozens of inquiries per week." Sorry, let me just apologize for having bothered you with yet another inquiry. Aside from taking days to respond to emails, she is clearly not a woman of her word, nor does she treat you with the standard courtesy of all other vendors on the planet. Meaganne and her team of exceptional professionals helped me and my bridesmaids and flower girls get ready for my wedding this past weekend and the results were absolutely stunning. I cannot rave loudly or enthusiastically enough to do justice to the magical artistry of Meaganne McCandess. After she did the makeup for my friend's wedding (in which I was a bridesmaid, and after which all my friends were dazzled and awed by how good I looked, haha), I decided to book her for my wedding for myself and my bridesmaids. Let me start by saying that I am NOT a makeup and hair kind of girl. The ponytail is my friend, and at best you might find me in lipstick and mascara on a night out. The genius of Meaganne is that she totally makes you up without making you LOOK totally made up. My now-husband likes me looking more natural (as do I), and yet Meaganne's make-up (which includes the most incredible false eyelashes ever -- TRUST HER on this one) works transformative powers you have never before seen. She creates an incredibly natural, healthy look that simply makes any person look absolutely stunning. I don't know how she does it, I really don't. Every other makeup artist I have ever encountered, even if they do good work, makes you look "made-up." Meaganne somehow just makes you look like the flawless version of yourself. Oh and I should add that for my trial, I thought I wanted a kind of Hepburn updo, and so Meaganne spent two hours creating this masterful bun. Yet when she finished, although it looked incredible, I realized that it would seem a bit too formal for my outdoor, ranch-style wedding. So I asked her instead to try something different, and she patiently and without a complaint spent another two hours redoing it all. :) AND she came up with the most beautiful side-swept bun you have ever seen. Literally my friends posted facebook pictures JUST OF MY HAIR. It was gorgeous, stayed in all night through my very enthusiastic dancing, and just looked sleek and beautiful through my sweaty escapades. GENIUS! You get the feeling that Meaganne genuinely wants you to look beautiful, and she definitely has the skills to make that happen. Oh and i should add that my friend's wedding was kind of funky-eclectic, and so the make-up and hair was kind of hip and edgy, whereas mine was a bit more traditional, and yet she was totally able to do all the different looks with ease. Meaganne McCandess: Words cannot express how wonderful Meaganne is. Not only does she do amazing hair and make-up she is incredibly kind and caring. Meaganne was ever so patient with me as I changed hairstyles and the direction of my make-up twice before the wedding. She even took time out of her busy schedule to do a second trial with me two weeks before my wedding to make sure I was totally comfortable with my wedding day look. I had a large bridal party of six bridesmaids and she coordinated a perfect timeline by bringing in two additional colleagues to help with hair and make-up. Finding hair and makeup folks for your wedding can be a bit stressful. Meaganne made my life very easy by being very flexible, easy to work with and responsive. I loved the photos on her website and she does both hair and makeup. I ended up finding a makeup artist I liked and requested Meaganne do the wedding parties' hair. I went for a test run and was immediately thrilled about choosing Meaganne. She has a very chill and laid back attitude and she clearly knew what she was doing. I brought her a photo of a style I liked and she styled my hair beautifully. She picked up some extensions for me the week before the wedding so that the style would be even more full and beautiful and saved me the time of having to go and get them. She did an amazing job with everyone's hair (including the people with short hair that were hesistant to have anyone mess with it). My sister had chin length hair and Meaganne created this amazing up-do (without extensions) that made my sister look amazing. My hair turned out beautiful and she fashioned my birdcage veil and flower clip perfectly. I was thrilled with the results. Meaganne also helped keep me calm on the morning of the wedding. It is very stressful and she gave me some tips for keeping the environment and personalities in harmony and I am grateful to her for keeping me calm. Finally, she followed us to the wedding venue to do a last minute touch up (which ended up being very necessary) and this follow up showed her true professionalism and attention to detail. She is so easy going and lovely to work with. She also did the hair for all my bridesmaids and everyone loved it! I can't wait to use her again and I would highly recommend her to anyone! Meaganne was absolutely fabulous. I got married 11/8/08 and I am so thankful to have had Meaganne do my makeup and hair. I had had a couple of pre-wedding make-up and hair consultation and was unhappy with them, and began believing I would not find anyone to do my makeup. One of my bridesmaids had recently been in her sister's wedding and had her makeup and hair done by Meaganne, she contacted Meaganne to see if she was available. She was supposed to go out of town, but Meaganne offered to stay home in order to do our wedding makeup. She came to my home and I had the consultation and she made me feel very comfortable. When Meaganne is doing your makeup you feel safe in knowing that she knows exactly what she is doing. I cannot say enough about Meaganne and her incredible work! She did my hair and make up for my wedding in September, as well as both moms' hair and make up, and my bridal party's make up. meaganne was uh-may-zing. period. she has an unbelievable attention to detail and made me feel really gorgeous and my *very* long hair was coiffed into a perfect and stunningly complex updo that looked great with my feather hairpiece. my makeup was stellar too. my skin looked great all day/night and she was able to add additional eyelashes in meticulous perfect order so that my makeup looked flawless literally down to the last lash. i couldn't have been happier with meaganne's work and the biggest pleasure was how completely sweet and easy to be around she is! she was recommended by many people including our kick-ass wedding planner (brittani from dream a little dream events) and i would hire her again in a minute. i recommend her extremely highly! read more

It's been more than a year since Meaganne did my hair and makeup for my wedding. I CANNOT remember why I did not give my favorite wedding vendor a review until a friend asked for my MUA name for her friend's wedding. I had trial sessions with two other MUA (very popular and highly rated on Yelp and Project Wedding). I love the hair of one, but not 100% on the makeup. As for the other, the makeup was great, but not the hair. Generally, they did great but I am just super picky. Then I had a trial session with Meaganne, it was EXACTLY what I was looking for both makeup and hair. She was communicative and put me at ease immediately. I booked her on the spot. I was recovering from a very bad skin reaction and was worried. She was patient and gave me lots of tips on how to prepare for the day, which was very helpful. On the actual day, she was punctual and timed herself very well. Everything was done beautifully and on time. She really has the ability/skills to transform one. My friends were very impressed too. She did my mom's hair and makeup too. My mom never had a "makeover" since her own wedding and Meaganne definitely made her day! I would definitely engage her help again for a special event. WOW! Meaganne is an absolute pro! She did my hair and makeup and both turned out stunning. She did a great job listening to my vision and gave me what I was looking for - only much better! My hair turned out great and was very secure (it held the entire night!) without being stiff and over-styled. She did wonders with my makeup. She was able to give me a soft and natural look and covered all of my skin's imperfections. She really knew what style of makeup would play to my best features.
