Meat BBQ is one of the best reasons to live in the greater Lansing area. If this place isn't on your BBQ bucket list, you should become a vegan. I honestly can't tell you much about their menu because as many times as I've been here, I ALWAYS get the nachos off the appetizer menu. Brisket, pork and bacon??? On chips??? With cheese??? Throw on their signature sauces and that alone gets a 5 star from me. The waitstaff is polite and fast. Even on their busiest nights, there's not much of a wait time. The menu isn't huge which means they picked a handful of things to do really really well. The inside is pretty cool. An eclectic kinda rock n roll vibe seems to make the beers go down a little easier. Think I'm making it up?? Try it!! Parking can be a little tricky though. Parallel parking out front is hard to find because of a few other really good restaurants in the same couple blocks. Just south of Meat BBQ at the traffic light is a city lot with one of the pay app setups. Pretty easy to do, and keep it on your phone for when you come back. I was meeting a friend in Lansing, and wanted to pick something unique and local to the area. After a quick search, this place came up, and right away, I was like I must go here. Pulling up, they are somewhat easy to see from the street and I grabbed a sparking spot close to the restaurant. Walking in, they have a nice amount of outdoor seating along with a great indoor seating arrangement as well. When we got seated, we tried to scan the QR code on our phones for the menu, but nothing came up. I thought it was me, but my friends phone did it too. We told the waiter and he offered to bring us a menu. We got 1 menu instead of two because that's how it worked out, and we had to share even after we told the waiter nobody's phone was working with the QR code. Is it the end of the world? NO. But, annoying none the less. I reviewed the menu and loved the selection of food items they offer. I always order brisket when trying out a new BBQ place for two reasons. First, I love brisket. Secondly, it's my way of gauging the flavors and then if I return I try other dishes they offer. Also, I don't eat pork, so that really narrows the selection of food items down to either chicken or beef products. So, the food comes out and it is by far the best BBQ either one of us has had in a very long time. My friends been here before and said that the food here is consistently above par in quality and taste. She was right. I am willing to tell you that it's so good I would drive back to Lansing to eat here and hang out for the day. No joke. My sandwich did come topped with coleslaw, and a side of fries. I think they have other sides, but I didn't really look or care at that moment. My friend got the shredded pork sandwich and she loved it! As a side note, our table was EXTREMELY wobblily and we thought it was going to break apart. I sense they knew about this issue, but it would be nice of they took care of the tables that they had and fixed it since we were really afraid to lean on it. Overall a 5 star experience here. My sister in law kept telling us we HAD to come here. So we met her for an early dinner around 4pm, not very busy at all. Vibe of the restaurant was super cool. We ordered drinks and a half order of nachos. Those came out pretty quick and the nachos were GREAT! This place is located on a cute little strip. Was visiting the area from Atlanta with my boyfriend and wanted to try something good to eat. This was the perfect little stop for bbq. We ordered a platter of food that included Pork Ribs , Beef Brisket (Lean or Fatty), Smoked Chicken Wings & Smoked Turkey. All the meat was delicious. Ribs were tender and seasoned well. The brisket was so tender it fell apart when picked up and it melted in your mouth as you chewed it. The wings were season and smoked to perfection. Turkey was my least favorite but it was still okay. In my opinion you don't need sauce for the meat selections but I did give them a try. They were not labeled at all so I'll try my best to describe. I tried what seemed like a buffalo sauce on the wings and it was mildly spicy with great flavor. There were also two other sauces that were fairly sweet. I combined them with the buffalo sauce to make a mixture that was sweet and spicy. For sides we ordered Mac-N-Cheese , Mashed Potatoes, BBQ Baked Beans & Broccoli Salad. My favorite was the Mac n cheese and baked beans. The mashed potatoes were okay and the broccoli wasn't really my type of style but it was indeed unique. We ordered alcoholic drinks that were really good as well. The service was great considering we arrived around closing hours. The server was still very efficient, quick and check on us regularly. Damm you Meat, you have ruined BBQ for our family. In our travels around the country we have tried to find great BBQ and nothing can compare or really come close. This is a jewel of a restaurant that we have in our town. The brisket is just phenomenal. Off the charts good. The spare ribs are about in the same category. The Texas hot like is also excellent as is the smoked turkey. You really can't go wrong with much on the menu. Beans and spicy slaw are my go to sides. My fam also loves the fries and the brisket Mac and cheese with massive chucks of brisket in it. They also have a great bar and beer menu. The restaurant has been expanded quite a bit over the years and with the size now it's usually not an issue to get a table. Service has always been very friendly and reasonable quick unless they are super packed. If you're considering trying it, do your self a huge favor and do it. read more

A great stop for these avid BBQ lovers! This place is in Old Town, and has an amazing atmosphere. We beat the dinner rush by getting to the restaurant before 5! After 5, the people came pooling in! The restaurant was very upbeat, and modern! The waitress was good. Just very to the point. We ordered Smoked Wings for an appetizer, and they were delicious! There were several different homemade BBQ choices! The cherry was among the favorites! For our meals, we ordered Brisket, Fries, Mac & Cheese, Pulled Pork, and BBQ Baked Beans. The fries came out steaming hot! They were crispy, and well seasoned! The pork was a bit on the lukewarm side, which made for a semi-drab dinner. The beans were decent, but nothing special. I love the beef brisket, smoked Turkey, and the wings are so good! I always get the Mac n cheese when I come. I don't like is the corn bread. It taste horrible, it's very sweet like cake, and I get the feeling it comes in frozen from Gordon's or someplace. They should take some time to invest in a good cornbread recipe. While traveling in Lansing, my Airbnb host suggested a BBQ place called Meat. I am from Alabama and we take pride in our BBQ. But man, this BBQ joint would put so many BBQ places down south to shame and they would be embarrassed. Meat is located in downtown Lansing. You have to find parking on the street. There is a courtyard, bar area, and dining room. You pick one meat (except ribs) for $15 then can add a 2nd meat for $6 more. Adding a half slab of ribs costs $12 I think. For my entree, I went with fatty brisket, pulled pork, jalepeno cilantro slaw, and blue cheese and bacon potato salad. The fatty brisket was just the way I like - marbled, flavorful bark, and easy to chew. I can say the same about the pulled pork. It was made the way I like as it was tender and seasoned really well. The jalepeno cilantro slaw was chopped and had a mayo base. It definitely had an unique taste with the jalepeno and cilantro. I had never had a potato salad that had blue cheese crumbles and bacon mixed in. .it was a red potato salad. There are 5 sauces - a spicy garlic buffalo sauce better for wings; a mild, tangy tomato base; Black Magic that has a sweet and smoky flavor and I think that it might had worchestershire sauce in it; a vinegar base; and a Carolina mustard with a kick of horseradish. Now I am perplexed by a problem. Why don't people up North like God's good creation of fresh brewed sweet tea? It's very inexpensive to make too! If you can help me solve the problem, let me know. I was charged a $1 for water. I asked the waitress about it because I was like I have never been in a restaurant that charged me money for water. But she explained to me due to COVID, they were spending a lot on plastic cups and had just recently just started using metal trays again. After her explanation, I was ok with paying a $1 for water. She came after I flagged down another waitress to ask who was suppose to be waiting on us. A couple of the wait staff just kept walking by us without saying a word. This was disappointing and not a good start to this restaurant that's rated so highly. When our waitress came to our table, she said the hostess was suppose to let her know when she got a table. Apparently she was working two rooms. Even so I would have liked to be acknowledged by the other wait staff - team work!! We ordered right away and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. I ordered the brisket dinner with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. It was a good sized piece of brisket and it was tender. I would get it again. The mashed potatoes were also very good with garlic and chunks of potatoes. The Mac and cheese had some really good bites with a kick otherwise they were just alright. The meal came with a piece of corn bread that was more like cornbread cake. It wasn't dense like cornbread usually is. Instead it was light and fluffy. It was very good and a good end to the meal. I found it really strange that they don't have butter in the restaurant. They have a variety of potatoes and bread but no butter!! The waitress brought me margarine instead for my bread. Hubby liked his brisket sandwich with coleslaw. He choose fries with it and he enjoyed those also. I think we need to give Meat another try. We weren't as thrilled as we'd hoped. 3.5/5 read more

WOW...just WOW. This place was amazing and I completely understand why it has been featured on Food Network. This is top notch BBQ, and potentially some of the best in the state. I have walked by a few times when in Lansing, but this was my first time giving it a try. Everything from the cool atmosphere, good drink selection, to the food and service was excellent. We were there later in the day, and our server did everything she could to claim some of the last ribs of the day for our table. Luckily, I was able to snag the last half rack of the day, along with some brisket. It was pure food heaven. I was beyond satisfied after this meal. Pro tip: Show up early. They only prepare so much a day and once it's gone, it's gone. This isn't a "well, they close at 8, so let's get there by 7" kind of place. In business for about 10 years, it won best new restaurant in 2012, and has been featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, and the Big 10 Network food show. i've been there several times over the past few years and have never been disappointed. At my most recent visit I had the brisket sandwich which, as always, was tender and flavorful. They offer a great array of topping sauces (see photos for list of types). The portions are ample. In the past, I've had their ribs, burnt tips, pulled pork, and Texas sausages (not always available). They have an incredible array of custom french fries, as well as very interesting fried pickles and a "BBQ egg roll, " which is stuffed with house made Andouille sausage, pimento cheese and poblano peppers, served with BBQ ranch as appetizers. I arrived a little before 4 on a Sunday (they are only only 12-5 to begin with) and was told upon entering that unless my party was already inside they were all sold out and had no food left. I find this hard to believe, especially when if my party was seated, they would have had to "find" food to feed me.
